- [EDIT 2024/04/16] petite description rapide en français : fin 2020, un mois ou deux avant la fin de ma garantie, @Samsung @samsungmobile a poussé une mise à jour de Galaxy Note 9. Dans un premier temps, elle a causé des bugs intermittents. Ah ? OK, ça ira mieux à la prochaine. Non ! C'est devenu définitif. Il y a eu débat : pur bug logiciel ou pépin matériel. Il en ressort que cette mise à jour a causé un problème matériel définitif. Ceux qui on entendu parlé de ça et ont attendu sans appliquer cette mise à jour n'ont jamais eu le problème.
Donc @Samsung est RESPONSABLE mais N'ASSUME PAS. Les discussions que j'ai eu avec le support ont été lamentables. Solutions de robot téléphonique dans un premier temps, classique et ridicule reset usine (avec perte de donnée malgré l'utilisation du logiciel de backup @samsung conseillé). Pour terminer par un royal : on vous offre les frais de port pour une réparation payante. Réparation qui, selon quelques retours, se paye la moitié du prix du téléphone neuf.
Heureusement, j'ai trouvé quelques contournements, pénibles, mais qui permettent dans certaines conditions d'avoir un affichage normal.
Parce que oui, le bug ne se manifeste que si le téléphone de "réveille" d'une certaine manière.
Mais, et c'est le plus rapide que j'ai trouvé, avec le Always On Display actif, et la reconnaissance d'empreintes digitales, l'affichage reste normal.
Par contre, un réveil par le bouton sur le côté ou par un appel téléphonique, et c'est l'écran vert assuré.
@samsung, vous avez oublié ce qu'est un client il y a trop longtemps.
(NB: ce sont les mêmes qui se sont foutu de la gueule de @apple quand ils ont supprimé le connecteur jack et qui l'ont fait ensuite eux même. Pareil pour la batterie remplaçable par le client. Pignoufs)

[EDIT 2023/02/03] Here's a new explanation, a new chronology of what may have happened
- step one : end of 2020, @Samsung @SamsungMobile released an update for the Note 9. This update could have been a software update causing an hardware failure
- step two : the first reports of #GSOD, green screen of death, begin to surface
- step three : @Samsung releases a new update without the problem, without acknowledging the problem
- step four : @Samsung rejects the problem on their _clients_, and what to make them pay for a repair of a problem this company is responsible of
I hear from someone close that he heard about potential problems with the step one update, waited the the next, and then only updated his wife's phone. No problem so far. So, yes :
@Samsung : you must repair for free, period.

- thank you for the views ! I'm no "youtuber" (have a look to my other video : mostly poor sim racing races between friends ...) and this video has more than 48000 views ! I never thought it would reach this level !
Anyway, share, name and shame, @Samsung @SamsungMobile must feel our anger over the way they bury this problem under the mat
- this problem in not limited to the Note 9 : I've read comments from people owning N8, N10, S8, S9, S10, Axx ... Not sure of all the models, not sure the list is exhaustive either ..
- there may be one or two improvements to the workaround described in this video :
* first, using the finger print reader may bring a gain of one step in the unlocking process.
* then, using the Always One Display, configured to really display something always (thanks Mr Obvious ! But look closer to the settings, it's not that simple !), there is no need to wake the phone properly before unlocking. AOD + finger print reader leads to fastest unlocking so far when suffering from the bug
- the problem may be HW. I was always convinced that it was caused by the late 2020 updates only. But there may be an electronic component that fails but allows for the workaround anyway

Since the end of 2020, Samsung introduced, and never corrected, a software bug in its Galaxy Note 9 software/FW.
The consequence ? Using the most common ways to wake up the phone brings up an ugly green screen.
Only a double tap of the screen can wake it up properly.

But very bad for @samsung : wake up guys, this is proof that there is a serious problem in your phones (not only the Note 9), and that YOU are the source of the problem, not us, users, and, most of all, screwed CLIENTS.

Samsung service center force me to change oled screen, after change the oled screen, the problem disappeared for 1 year then reappeared again....there is definitely something wrong with their HW. I notice the problem become worst, when you play games and phone heat up.....not going to fix the phone as aint worth to fix it anymore...Samsung know there this is a defective design on hardware but remain silence on this

@@neggas- I don't have the complete set of parameters in mind, but in my case, the "Always On Display" is not always on !
This specific setting "Tap to show" makes it possible, I think, to awake the phone in a perfect screen state, using double taps.
On the contrary, using a single tap often wakes it in green screen.
And using the physical power button _always_ wakes it in green screen.
That's why I'm angry at @Samsung : this demonstrate that it is a SW bug. Again : there is a way to always wake up the phone in a perfectly working state; and many ways to always wake it in green screen.

a 1000 euro phone abandoned with bugged software that breaks the screens, there's already a fix with custom roms and would take samsung a day to implement a quick fix patch, but they rather have us buy new fold or ultra or whatever new samsung instead.
Worse : there's already an official rom update that does not break the HW, but they won't admit that the previous one did.

I'm in the club but don't think it's software because my spouse has the same phone and hers doesn't do it, yet. Instead, I believe it's a capacitor issue because many of the "fixes" I see involve dimming your screen really dark. My wife uses the power saving settings all the time but I don't like a dim screen. So, I think I wore out the cheap capacitor faster than she did. Samsung needs to issue a recall for using bad parts. I'm going to investigate replacing the capacitor and see if this works because it is still happening intermittently, even with the dim screen and it's only a matter of time until it goes out completely. I pity anybody buying a refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note 9 because it may work past the 14 day buyers remorse and then...

@@pandacongolais you keep asking for a proof or explanation although alot of people have already explained it to you several times, the reason why its working when touching the screen and not working when using power button is because the way those methods triggering the screen are different! Touching the screen uses another parts on the el-bord than the one being used when pressing the power button or pressing on the screen, thats it hope you dont ask for a proof again!

More info: my screen is always green, and whatever I do, my screen is always green, I see practically NOTHING.
Did you try the workarounds I listed in the video description ?
The most important: try to reach the settings and activate the "Always on Display"
Then put the phone to sleep (a simple press of the power button). Wait for the AOD to wake up and display something (time, date and battery % on mine).
Then you should be able to use the workarounds: double tap on the screen, long press at the bottom or the finger print reader

@@n3zur4a I understand. As you can see on the video, mine is green-ish, but not completely. I can see things, between some and few. I cannot help if you don't manage to reach the settings. Sorry.
May be, and be may be, I mean there will be a big list of "if-s" : with the help of some geek/hacker/Android dev, by using a USB connection and the command line tool "adb", then, may be, again, there a possibility to activate the proper setting. That's something I guess is possible; but I have zero certainty that it exists.

i tried pwm,oledsaver, aod, etc..., but i think it is too late. the amoled display in my note 9 was broken. maybe with all that methods make the display looks "normal", but when i tes it in solid black, it is not pitch black like my note 3. when saw image with black gradiation, the display looks so bad, even IPS display from cheap phones looks better. they will still silent, coz it will use very big cost to repair all the bugged display (it is broken), not like note 7, they stil can use the amoled display to other products.
As far as I know, there may be two types of problems :
- the more yellow than green problem : this may be a pure display panel problem. Intensive usage or too short life specifications, I don't know.
- the more green #GSOD problem, which looks like a software problem. Have you tried the tricks in my video ? Using "always on display" and double tap on the screen ?
@@pandacongolais AOD is the first option i had tried, unfortunately it is useless. than i tried used pwmfree, oledsaver, oled tools, dimmer, etc. now i use only 2 option, pwmfree or manual brightness under 20%. i use one ui 2.5
WOW!! My phone is working again...this is CRAZY! Every time I double tapped my phone is PERFECT. Single tap is green. This NEEDS to be fixed!

@@TBetti I was 99% sure it is a pure software problem. But somebody in the comments below convinced me that it may be an hardware one, because the way the screen is awaken is different between the "power" button and the AOD.
In any case, the least @samsung could is change the behavior of the "power" button to perform the same procedure than the AOD trick. Of course, if it is an hardware failure, the best solution is a FREE fix. But damage is done, @samsung doesn't care about customers, they only care about buyers of the next model. But if the next model is not a Samsung ?
My s10 lite is having screen flickering and turning into greenish or yellowish for some amount of time... issue started recently without any reason. Do you have any idea if any bug is there in recent security patches?
No idea, I'm still using my Note 9, helped by the workarounds in the description. I will as long as it fits my usages, no need to change now, and especially, not for another Samsung model.

There are only workarounds :
- double tap as described in the video
- use of the finger print reader & extensive use of Always On Display, with something displayed event when the phone is "asleep". Obviously, the phone drains its battery a bit more. And the problem come back when receiving a phone call, but after few power button presses, the screen come back to normal
Same problem , randomly , with Always on display , as you show, it magically disaopears!
I'm sure @Samsung has the (HUGE) numbers of cases listed and could explain what the problem is, and offer a FREE repair (if it really is a HW problem) or a SW fix.
But since they are only interested in money we're expected to put in their next model ...

Mine started that way, but now fails every time if started from power button and works every time if started from screen tap then screen home button or screen tap then power button.

As shown in my video, there a software way to always avoid the problem. So my strong belief is that this is a pure software/firmware bug.

Mine started to have a fading display and it was annoying until I saw someone who has the same issues and I tried turning off the adaptive brightness and no more screen fading issues.

But no effect on mine. It seems there are similar but not identical problems with the Note 9 display. Some also report yellow-ish screen, mine is green.

No. They didn't. I think they won't, because they don't care about customers. I think they don't know shame. They only care about those who will purchase their next products.
Either I'm right, it's a software bug, and they own us a fix. Or I'm wrong, it's really a hardware problem (which I will doubt as long as they don't bring a proof) and we are so many around the world to get this problem that they should replace the phone for free (HW problem solved in the new one of course).

У меня возникла такая мысль , может с новым обновлением при прямой разблокировке подаётся слишком большой ток на экран и получается такая ошибка , а так с вашим способом мы сначала запускаем экран малым током и все нормально , не понятно .

Yes, that doesn't help. I did that, both simple and complete reset of the phone, following the instructions from @Samsung @SamsungMobile. The only result was loss of data [EDIT]even when following their procedure for backup,[/EDIT] and time. They MUST provide us with a free fix, either FW or HW. But it must be FREE !

Method A causes the bug every time. Method B avoids the bug everytime. ==> Software bug.
My darkmode on note 9 getting color distortion in the middle,the yellow almost visible but I can still see it. But whenever I enter dark photo, there's no yellow. The yellow visible on darkmode background. Weird.

@@pandacongolais yes I have same problem with my s9 plus and not only thousands of users facing green screen problem i visited samsung service center but they just give random excuse and say we need to change display which is very costly..why the hell should we pay money if samsung knows they are the one who are selling faulty mobiles, service center guy is telling that it bcauz of keeping phone in pocket screen is getting pressure and all excuse samsung should call back all this mobiles.

I saw in some other thread that they request about half the price of the phone ! They are totally nuts ! My Note 9 is pricey, I bought it for at least 4 years, and it failed after 2, and I should pay the price of an already decent phone just for repair ? Go to hell @samsung.
It happened to me when my friend dropped my phone and after a week or so, my phone started having this issue. And thanks to this video I don't have to spend unnecessarily to buy another phone.
Not sure this is related to the fall. Mine felt 3 or 4 times, never from high, never hard, always well protected. And it has not a single scratch.
As our discussions in the comment shows, I think this is more related to either one of the late 2020 updates and/or an HW problem. I always thought it ways only SW, but now I think there may also be a HW explanation.
In any case, @Samsung @SamsungMobile must provide a FREE solution to its CUSTOMERS, if ever they still know what a customer is.
