- Samsung S9 screen goes dark or blank. This is just a trick on how to unlock and work on your device.
UPDATE 2: My S9+ screen which was replaced by samsung is gone now. now this has happened twice on my samsung s9+ and once on my S9. Again exact same issue. it went color less again. Do not buy these expensive samsungs. They do fake business now if I have to replace screen it will take 13-14K INR which is huge
UPDATE: MY S9+ also went dark yesterday. Samsung is just doing outrageous things, it sends some updates and burn your devices as soon as your warranty expires
There is no proper resolution to this issue, some claimed that they resolved this issue by installing "Dead Pixels Test and Fix" android app. It didn't worked out for me though.
If you see your screen fine in safe mode then there might be some malicious app but if it's same in safe mode you have to replace the screen. this is a known issue which generally appears if you use Galaxy phones for longer duration.
Playing games for straight 1 or 2 hours or customizing your display for better hertz rate or set it to full HD mode.
Finally There is no going back, you have to replace the screen, it will cost you around 14K if done through samsung stores and 10K in local shops. I would recommend you to visit authorized shops for replacement.
For me this happens every time the screen turns on and off too quickly, like pressing the lock button 2 times in a row. The solution I found is to turn on the always on display, so the screen is always turned on. Another solution would be to factory reset your phone and install an older update because it is a software issue. Shame on Samsung for not fixing this
Me too. It started happening to me after the update on February. I've never dropped my phone anywhere.
Always on Display saves me every time but it's annoying having to do it lots of times on the day because calls make it feel as if the phone has been blocked.
Are u sure it's a software issue? Because the green lines were changing when he tapped his fingers around the sensors. Generally the display cable remains in that area
This happens to me, exactly the same. I went to GSM and in says I need a new display. I will try it in your way.
Is this really a software issue
Im using Samsung A71 and this kinda similar things happens when decreasing the brightness it flickers and the colour fades
THANK YOU! Scroll down for the details of the fix. I was actually watching screen replacement videos getting ready to order a replacement screen and came across this video. Thank you HariGyan and Thank you Sajin Pattath for bumping Max Vihanga's fix back up to the top. Many thanks Max Vihanga for the detailed fix. I have tested it and it is working as described on my Samsung S9+ Scroll down in the comments to see the details. Don't replace your screen until you try this, and DON'T buy another SAMSUNG product, I know I won't. This is a known issue on many of their models and they have not provided any support or a fix. I am still using adaptive brightness and it is working as described, I have not had to put my brightness at high. The key is to always tap once on the screen to get your 'always on' clock to display and then hard press on the home button. If you hard press on the home button first, you'll get your greenish, faded glitchy display.
Fantastic thanks.
Thx this works i have been using this since before this comment but is there a way to fix this?
Brilliant
Any update ? Do you figure out the reason yet? Instead of tap once on the screen
@@religion3166 i think this issue is due to the fallure of light sensor , that sensor send wrong data to boatd because of which display behave like this and i am saying this because when you off your adaptive display feature the phone has not to change the colour and brightness of display but after this fault even you have close the adaptive display feature the phone is changing the brigntess and colour of display own its own and one thing more when you open your display with double tap at that the sensor dnt work bcz the displqy is not fully on so at that time display work perfect but when you on your phone with power button or by normal way the sensor works qnd display not work prolerly

Faced similar issue where only top portion of the screen was being displayed. Tried following and it worked for now.
1. Go to a Dark place( Wardrobe). I felt it's important because light sensors on phone were acting weird.
2. Restart the phone using Right side Key + Down Volume. I chose Restart in safe mode option once I saw the options screen.
3. Screen became visible. unlocked the phone and changed the settings to always display
4. Increased the brightness of the phone to Maximum.
thanks this helped

Your are absolutely correct in you assessment of this phone, it is really not worth for the hype by the company.

Using S9+ samsung cover?
Posting here original solution from Max Vihanga with some changes, if you are using Samsung cover you have to choose "Always show" instead of "Tap to show".
As well if you do not manage to see anything to do the first step, this worked for me: unlock with fingerprint, you might hear the phone as been unlocked but still see nothing, press the right (power on/off) button to block it again, your screen still off, wait 2-5 sec and some graph/color should come up, in my case was the circle at the bottom over a greenish shadow, press on it and the phone will ask for your unlock method and the screen is on.
The problem seems to be related with the light sensor deactivating it and set the brightness to a fix point (in my case a bit above the middle) will make the error dissapear and no need of always display on.
Original post:
I have finally found a fix for the problem. It worked immediately. Here is what you have to do. The problem is related to software so DO NOT change your screen
1. Go to settings and turn on Always On Display. Select 'Home button and clock'. Also turn on 'Tap to show.
2. Now turn off your screen using the physical button on the side.
3. Tap your screen (while off). Your AOD will show up. Press the home button at the bottom to turn on the screen.
Voila. Your screen is no longer green. !
Facing the same issue with S9+ for past 1 month. The mentioned workaround saves lot of time.

This worked! Thanks😗
I was searching for a solution to my s9+ screen being dark for the bottom 3/4's when I turn on the screen using the right button. Accompanying this partially dark screen are lines, poor screen resolution, and odd colors in the visible area. Typically when I drag down the notifications or when I manually adjust the screen brightness, it fixes it. When I tried the Max Vihanga solution of using the home button to turn on the screen (already had my settings so I was using the always on screen with home button and clock and tap to show), the first time I did it, it resulted in my problematic 3/4 dark screen. My observation is if I manually lower my brightness below 25%, the screen becomes visible again. If I raise it above 75%, screen is visible again. Seems that between 25 and 75%, it's varying degree of dark on the lower 3/4 (yes, it actually improves and degrades as I adjust in this range).
Gracias amigo 🎉
Am also facings a same problem fast 2months what is the exact problem
can it be solved by replacing the screen?
thank you so much!!!
I borrowed comment from Max Vihanga in one of the replies below. Adding it here to bring it to the top.
As per MAX, I have finally found a fix for the problem. It worked immediately. Here is what you have to do. The problem is related to software so DO NOT change your screen

Please note if you try to turn on display by usual method of using power button, issue still be there. But if you go by above process, you will be able to switch on the phone atleast. Its a great work around. Thank you Max Vihanga
Thanks for bumping this instructions from Max up to the top, it works as described.
Thanks a lot!
What is actually causing this?? I never had this issue but would like to know the technical details
Thanks so much for this, I followed it and it worked. I couldn't use my s9 for 3 days because it's all green and black and the flickering empties the battery too quickly. Now I have my phone back!
Thanks, this working for me.
Man this is was so good just because of the insane over heating problems and the flickering i had to change my phone
i have the same problem....thank you so much...for helping me
Great idea.
its work.thanks bro
I have the same problem but I get it to work by double tapping the screen to unlock. Unlocking using the power button if what triggers the flicker behavior for me.
Its a Hardwear problem or its software program ?
Turn off the ADAPTIVE DISPLAY (it makes the screen go dark). Turn on Screen Always On and increase brightness to full. There is a software issue that Samsung will not admit to, nor fix.

Yup. It happened to everyone right after some sort of update. It happened to me after December update.

Same issue happened to my samsung S10 lite. The phone is on but screen is black. I can only activate Bixby using power button. But screen is always black.. I bought it at Jan 2021. What will I do to solve this?
Thank you so much!! By using the method you mentioned of pressing on the sensor the pressing the button on the right I was able get the screen back so long as I kept my finger on the sensor. I used this time to bring the brightness up to maximum in the settings and now I can use it normally again. THANKS!
I will repeat a successful solution to this problem, posted by Max Vihanga:
The problem is related to software so DO NOT change your screen
1. Go to settings, and select Display. Scroll to the bottom and click 'Always On Display'. Click 'Tap to show' to see the settings.
2. In the 'Always On Display' settings, select 'Home button and clock'. Also select 'Tap to show'.
3. Now turn off your screen using the physical button on the side.
4. While the screen is off, tap your screen. The date and time display. Press the home button at the bottom center of the screen.
5. If your screen is green, turn off the screen, and perform step 4.
Voila. Your screen is no longer green. !

Any solution in s9
My S9 is 4 Years and 5 months old and only JUST started having this happen. I did notice it's true that it would black out, except at the very top, when I tried to turn the screen back on immediately after I had just turned the screen off. I also noticed that sometimes the screen would turn greenish and the black would sort of flicker at the bottom but not go completely black until I tried to turn the screen off and then back on. I'll give this a try since it worked for so many people. I was worried I'd have to buy a new phone and have high plan payments again. Before this video my solution was to put the phone up against my car AC really cold or to put it in the freezer because I thought it was an overheating issue; both of which worked btw.
Turn off your adaptive brightness and turn your brighness to full also turn on always on display , my phone is still working but i turned off as many features that l didnt need to save battery power as well .I found that my sceen will fad if i charge to 100%so i unplug at 99% making phone calls for long periods will green out my screen .good luck ,i will up grade my phone by next year i hpoe it last out .
Try not to get your phone wet keep it cool but dry ,a car aircon may have to much moisture as might a freezer .
If your screen fads turn off by using right hand side button but dont power off ,then plug in to charger and use your finger print ot turn on again .
Even I started facing same issue.. Seems to be firmware bug.

If this happen because of update then Samsung definitely monopolizing our devices.
Very disappointing.

I have problem with my galaxy s9 like this how to repair it
Thanks for the trick. I had similar issue. It mostly happens when I lock the phone and then unlock it. The screen disappears. I have lost many calls because of this problem because I cannot see who is calling me.
It has been almost a year I have been going way around it by just tapping the screen before unlocking it. That is, tap the screen, and then unlock. If it doesn't happens, then again press the lock button, and then tap the screen multiple times slowly... and then press the unlock button.
But now, after seeing your video, I think the other solution is to remove the "adaptive brightness" and keep the brightness to max. Thanks to you.
I've seen somewhere that when you change the battery it will all go back to normal.

I think it is because it has overheat problem. Try disabling fast battery charging and Enable The Optimize Battery Usage options.
Yes u r ryt it's because of the overheating problem. The display cables are always routed near the processor and that over heating could have caused a serious damage
Mine does it When I have used the phone for a while or maybe watching a video or part of a video on UA-cam I noticed the phone starts to get warm warm and then maybe I don't want to say hot hot like burn you but it does kind of get past warm and then turn the phone off and then try to use it again and I get that just barely lit screen, Then I just have to put the phone down for a while and stop using it and it seems like as soon as it cools off it works good for a while and it always works in the morning after I wake up whether it's on the charger or off the charger as I don't use it at night obviously
IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY TURN OFF ALWAYS ON DISPLAY AND CANNOT GET INTO YOUR PHONE PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT. I accidentally turned off always on display on my S9+ when trying to fix this issue. if you can see the screen is on because of the little light at the top of the screen, swipe down and keep swiping on the screen where the brightness adjuster bar normally would be. if it doesn't work keep moving around the general area where the brightness bar would be but keep swiping left to right. if it works and your brightness goes all the way up, IMMEDIATELY go into the settings, search "always on display" and re-enable it. if you need me to explain more in depth please let me know.
