I bought a new Samsung smart TV for the living room a couple years ago. In the warnings and usage part of the directions, they actually tell you to unplug your TV before having any private or sensitive conversations because they could be recorded. We ended up just keeping unplugged all the time unless we were going to use it.
Why? You're still gonna get ads on your TV. The only thing a vpn is gonna do is make your connection slower to that porn site you don't want your wife to know you frequent.
@terence francis I was a "computer tech" (a.k.a. "guy who knows how to reinstall an operating system") for the better part of 20 years. I've seen more porn on more puritanical PCs than you can shake a stick at. In fact, it's where I got most of my collection. Wanna try again?
It would be different for each device, but it's usually in the settings... Somewhere. One thing that works for all of them though, don't connect smart devices to the internet.
I bought a 2016 grand Cherokee low and behold sirus x m contacted me by my E mail ( that I never gave them) and they said congratulations on your purchase of your grand Cherokee: I was floored; so sirus X M is spying on your too
It will be probably easier to get a smarttv with all those things you want, and then never connect it to the internet. If it's never connected to the internet, they can never get your data. Or just get a PC monitor, and then connect a mini-pc to it running linux to stream video.
Don't own a TV. Don't own or use a "smart phone". My internet via laptop is done with ad blockers and malware safeguards. Am not subscribed to any streaming service, am not on Twitter or FB or any of those places. And I do not register on sites to buy stuff nor tic the "save my card for later" box. So far I have dodged all traps and viral infections.
You need to update this. Tell which tv name brands have cameras, or settings then go step by step to show how to opt out. Also show us how to opt out of tracking on Netflix you tube Hulu Vudu etc....they are annoying with their suggestions too n “are you still watching feature” if I’m paying for service I don’t want to be asked over and over
Not me. I have 'over-the-air' television. They haven't a clue what I'm watching and it bothers them a whole lot. Nany nany boo boo. They follow you with your cell phone too. They know exactly which store you go into and how long you are there. If you pay through your phone they know exactly what you purchased and how much you spent. Your vehicle is collecting data on where you go and how long you are there when you park when away from home. BTW, they know where you live. If you watch TV through your computer they can keep tabs on you also.
Correction: If you use a television to watch network tv, you may be spied on. I haven't watched network television in over 15 years. You can keep your commercial breaks, you can have your reality TV. Never again.
How do you know this for certain? What percentage of Washington DC is now gentrified? When is the Columbia Hospital for Women reopening? Why did the Redskins lose to Dallas last Sunday ? I need answers. If you don't get it, YOU DON'T GET IT😁

Samsung do their fingerprinting through another company. The tv just captures audio/visual clips and compares for the fingerprint
"And this, kids, is why you need a VPN."

@terence francis Whatever, dude.
Phasers and spaceships. No wonder I never get adds that reflects my interests.
Wait until people find out how much personal information modern vehicles are collecting, when you pair your smart phone to them.
A step by step instruction, on how to stop the tracking, would be great.
It would be different for each device, but it's usually in the settings... Somewhere. One thing that works for all of them though, don't connect smart devices to the internet.
Step one, unplug. Done
There really isn't a need to subscribe to such cable or satellite services.
And that's why Yang' s proposal is good and should be carried out by our next government no matter what. They want our info, OK. Pay for it.
I can't believe how popular those smart TVs are. Their UI sucks.
Good thing I NEVER set up the Internet/Wifi on the “Smart” TVs...
That's really "Smart" of you.

Where can I find a non-smart TV (preferably LCD) which has Mini-LED backlight, Quantum Dots (QDCC) and a IPS or VA panel?

How many Millennials and Gen Zeds wondering what the hell is on that guy’s head?
They are telling us how to protect ourselves at the end of video

So I get to skip the ads on all my devices,.i can honestly say I've never seen more than the obligatory 4 seconds of any add..
Sorry can’t hear you over my GDPR regulation that protects me from TV Tracking & ads.
100% an American issue.
I don't know why y'all bother; I only buy what's cheapest at Walmart.
@terence francis Are you saying the Heinz ketchup is better at Macy's?
So engineers were all supposed to be dead to build privacy
