Great shoes in your list. I bought the Zoom fly 5 in Nikes sale. I’ve only done 1 run in them a little shakeout. But I agree with everything you’ve said I felt efficient and was rolling along. Im looking forward to getting more miles in them.

Majority of my long runs have been in the On cloud Monster this year! Absolutely loved this year, approaching 350 miles in this shoe. Novablast 3 is probably 2nd.

I recently retired my Hyperion Tempos at 485 miles. I recall at first thinking they were a bit firm but realize I prefer that versus a too "mushy" soft shoe. They are light and nimble and the upper fit me well. My current top 2 long run shoes: Novablast 2, Nike Pegasus Trail 2 (I just got in from 12-mile dirt trail run and enjoy the React foam in the shoes, it livens up after a couple of miles I feel). I am new to the Speed 3s and love them but not sure if they are long run material for me yet or not, will try a long run in them soon! Great video!

i have done the majority of my long runs in the Aphafly this year; followed by Adios Pro 3 and then Asics Kayano 29. My legs feel noticeably fresher using the Alphafly after the run. The Adios Pro 3 is not quite as forgiving but still good (they got better after 40 KM) the Kayano 29 was also great at sllow speeds - but more DOMS at the end of the 20KM + runs

My go to long run has been the hoka carbon x. It’s firm but protective. It’s stable and rolls through smoothly on easy long runs. If I plan on doing some speed work in the long run, then I usually ready for the adizero adios pro (v1).

Spot on Andy! Bought the Hyperion Tempo's back in September for half marathon training. They're an absolute pleasure to run in.... I would also recommend the Asics Tri Noosa 14 and the Mach 5 for long runs.

I will have to work this out. These days I feel I can use all my race shoes for "long" runs as they are intended to be used for marathons and you don't have overly sore legs the day after. I can however offer that I did my longest run ever this time last year (35 miles/55K) in the Endorphin Speed 2 RUNSHIELD so good to see that on your list. I am on my 3rd pair now and indeed did 15 miles in them just last week. Never really got on with the Hyperion Tempo - just felt they were a bit wide for me. I think I managed one 10 miler in them. Prime X could be another "contender" here for me. Did 16 miles in them few weeks ago. Rather wobbly but they are a lot lot faster than the large weight in our size (380g) feels. Can't say the same for the Zoom Fly 5 despite being pretty the same weight :)

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  Рік тому +2

Yeah the speed 2 runshield has been a bit of a shoe that’s flown under the radar for me but a consistent performer when I’ve needed it, a reliable one! Sounds the same for you!

After reading your answer I remembered I have a practically new Vaporfly V2.. I was planning an easy 6k as its my day off after about 80k. But I enjoyed them so much.. The cushion and bounce.. Unbeatable. It turned out a VO2 max run.. So much fun. So.. Why not just use it once a week for fun? Next I will get the Alphafly V1 out of hibernation... Run every run in the Vaporfly?

Mine has probably been the NB 1080 V11 which I have used for pretty much all of my road long runs and a recent marathon. But I am retiring those soon and grabbed the Novablast 2 for £56 so hoping that fits into its place!
I know a shoe not often talked about, but I have had really good success with the Nike react miler for long runs in the past, I find it remains comfy and you can lace up and forget about it.

But I think for a Xmas treat to myself I'm going to pull the trigger on the Novablast v3 because since they've been released I just feel this constant rising wave of great reviews for it and so many people can't be wrong, right? It also helps that its in a lot of sales right now 😊

I have 2 pairs of the Hyperion Tempo. Excellent energy return and super light. At over 300km they are still looking new. However I do begin to think that my limit is 8km road run. More than that I begin to ache. Excellent for any long distance if you go off road as the impact on your joints is less. Maybe because I am 60 my joints need a bit of cushion once I go north of 70km per week.. I gravitate more to the Speed 2 and 3 when passing the 50km mark.. I have ordered the Novablast 3 on sale.. I hate the Novablast 2 but the 3 feel much more like a running shoe then the Novablast 2 that feel to me like I am running on shoes with high heels.. 🙄

I put 800km Nike Zoom Invisible 2, so I bought another pair that has about 300km so far. The extra cushion seems to slow me down, but risk of injury (I'm 50 and been running for a year) on long runs is minimal. When I'm looking to push the pace a little, I go to my Saucony Endorphin Speed 2. I need to pick up a set of Nike Vapourfly's for race day and maybe one more pair of cushion shoes as I feel like my need for the heavy cushion shoes in not as strong.

ZF 5 definitely divides opinion. It is my worst shoes of 2022 by some distance. In my UK size 9 the left shoe was 18g heavier than the right, which quite frankly is ridiculous. The left shoe gave me a heel blister so they went straight back to Nike for a refund. I was using the NB TC for long runs then Speed 2 and now Novablast 3.

Most of my long runs comprise two different styles, traditional long slow distance, and then slower paces with extended race pace sections.
I have owned 2 pair of Mach4 (one retired, one at 300km), 2 pair of Tempo Next% (one at 200km, 1 pair minty fresh), and 2 pairs of Endo Speeds (V1 retired and V3 120km). As much as I like the Speed I have heel lift issues in both pairs on my left foot only, so now I put on a piece of KT tape on the left heel to stop the blister that will form if I go longer than 15km, or any sort of faster efforts. That’s fair enough! Can’t say you didn’t persist with them, fair play 👏

Nice review. Never tried the Hyperion Tempo, must be a dream of a longrun shoe. Hoka Speedgoat 4 is the shoe I have done the most longruns (20 km or above) in this year. I have used it mostly on gravel and trail, but did one winter long run in them on icy road. Second most is the Vomero 16 , but I feel it is hard to do runs over 25 km with. Longest run was in the Speed 1, 34 km , on hilly road and gravel. I really think Zoom fly 5 could be an option for me.

I loved the vomeros and also the speed 1, both fantastic shoes!

I want to try Hoca because I've used only Nike and Saucony so far. What's the best use for the Speedgoat4?

At the end of the day everyone different especially biomechanically. Wear what works. Simple as that. You're the one running in the end.
