You'd think it's looney until you find yourself with a new heart and a Desire to change certain things about yourself, even if The Sower had made many a pass before
It's hard to accept someone else getting forgiveness, that we may not think they deserve, but when the shoe is on the other foot; and we find ourselves alone and consumed with guilt we hope and wish for that same kind of forgiveness. We are all terrible, not one of us has lived our lives without hurting someone else. All we can do is yield and take it to the cross or deny it and push it deep down inside us. It's the choice. There's always been a choice.
So I actually read an interview about the very thing that your asking about. The lead singer of Saint Motel said that the song was written about one of his childhood friends. Here's a snippet of the interview: “AJ: The song is based on a friend of mine growing up who was sent away to get born again. He wasn't that bad off; his parents were just totally overreacting. We reconnected recently, but he wasn't allowed to be my friend or talk to me for years. I think the idea of getting born again is ridiculous, but it's also hopeful, which I think is good. The song rides both sides; it's not taking a stand, it's more like a perfect dichotomy. At one point in your life it's a great idea and the second you think about it, it becomes a horrible idea. AS: It's a get out of jail free card. AJ: Yeah. It's great because it inspires hope and can change people, but it's also really bad if we all get a get out of jail free card. But we don't get overly preachy in the song; we just bring up the concept and letting the audience decide. It's a fun one to play live." Love this
Just want to know others opinions on this, is this a straight satire of born-again christians or is it just non-sensical lyrics?
