Great video. Stellar oil job as usual. If you have time a young American UA-camr who works on solar installation had a wonderful idea and installed his solar panels without drilling holes in his vehicle. His channel is Nomad Brad and that video was back on July 19th.
I think these vans are just brilliant, huge amount of space, bulletproof engine and they are just full of character. Always wanted one of these but as im pushing 70 now, just too much work for me,so ive settled for a 2018 peugeot boxer L3 H2,which is coming along nicely. Love your videos Mel,as well as being informative they make me smile. Cheers Mel.
Another good video Mel. I purchased the oil filter removal tool from Mercedes, if my memory is correct, it cost me approximately €20 and me being a tad anal, I do use a torque wrench set to 25Nm. Like you, I also buy my oil in 20 litre quantities nicely packaged in a box from Mercedes. I change the engine oil and filter every six months or before and after European road trips. I also remove and clean the egr valve annually and give it a coating of ceramic grease so it should never get stuck, like the original one. I am determined that my OM646 engine gets up past 500,000km! 😅 Keep the mechanical stuff coming Mel, it's just as important as actual van conversion techniques, processes etc 👍
The best thing about putting the 'old' oil filter into a 'Doggy-Bag' is that you can just 'throw it' into the nearest tree to get rid of it EH?? 😂😂😂 .... I can't believe you haven't learned HOW TO pour from a can yet Mel ... Always tip them on the edge - save the Glugging! - the Slopping - and potential Spillage ......
@@BigVanSmallWorld .... I couldn't agree MORE! Mel - But every time I walk through woods or along country lanes the Lazy Toe-rags leave their evidence hanging 🤨💩
Hi Mel, really love your videos. Just a quick question. Why did you choose the Mercedes Vario, and what were the alternatives? I am considering one myself but am unsure about maintenance and driving comfort.
Hey Mel not sure if it was your video or Becks I heard someone had to drop out from the van fest because their van wasn’t ready just wondered if I could buy their ticket let me know cheers Jack
@@BigVanSmallWorld no not you two I thought someone from the barn couldn’t get their MOT done, not to worry anyway I picked up the wood for my ceiling yesterday thy left it full length so it’s overhead bed have a great time
Hi Mel, you are so calm and great with your explanations 😊 Have you thought about running short courses or one to one service sessions? Showing owners how to carry out basic servicing or repairs on their own vehicles 🚚🤔🪛🔧🔨 Just a thought 😊
Hi Mel, thanks for all your videos, love following the channel. Just a question, i checked the oil you've recommended and the manufacturer says its not suitable for vehicles with a dpf? Any advice on that? Cheers mate 👍
@BigVanSmallWorld I wasn't looking to cause a fuss, it's just when I typed in my sprinter details it came up with this....Exol Optima C3 LSM 5W-30 Engine Oil, low saps which reduces emissions not to clog up the dpf. No doubt yours has been working just fine, I remember the days when oil was just oil! I recently changed my gearbox oil, after two types of oil which I purchased from eurocarparts and Eddie walkers I couldn't get a gear. The suppliers were adamant it was the correct oil. Anyway, I went to mercedes and purchased the manufactures spec oil, it worked wonders, gears like slick....I was baffled but there you go 🫣😆
Another good video Mel but it’s not a good idea to wipe clean your filter holder over the filter case on the engine for obvious reasons. You don’t want any dust/road grime going it there do you.

Oh yeah 👍

I have used a additive like your Slick 50 in my cars and they do make a difference
Love watching yr videos mel.....you are a mine of information fantastic
Thank you so much!😊
To stop the oil container from "glugging " hold it sideways and it will pour nicely.
HI Mel I know I've said this before but, thats the best oil on the market 🙌🙌as an ex employee of theirs 👍also another great vid 👍
I remember you saying that before that’s why I went with it again 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld 😁👍👍👍
Mell when you start the van the engine oil will drop as the oil filter will need to be filled so an other oil check will need to be done again 👍

Hi Mel the locks on Mary are slam locks great video 👍

Hi Mel, is there pollen filters on the sprinter?
Yes 👍
Thank you a very helpful and informative video, I guess my van would be different to your Mary tho, hope your keeping well😊
Thank you! You too!
Mystery key - Glovebox?
Oh could be thank you 👍🍻
You need to take the plastic off the outside of your windows aswell 👍🏻
This is my second waring to Mel about this but he still either hasn't saw it or disagrees. But it's going to be a costly bill when they bake on
@@mramsey123 He removed it from the inside but probably just forgot about outsides

Hi Mel will you be putting central locking on your palace on wheels your dream motorhome build I'd like to thank you both for doing these videos?
Thank you that’s really nice of you to say.
Fule filler lock ?
The locks look like slamlocks used by delivery drivers. Door automatically lock when slid lock and need a key to unlock.
Thank you 🙏

Slick 50, never come across but intrigued.
Is there a specific version as I have a fiat ducato 2.3 diesel.
Any help guidance much appreciated.
It’s brilliant stuff comes in 2 different forms semi synthetic and synthetic depending on what oil you use 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld thanks Mel. Really looking forward to seeing the Benz finished, blown away with what you have done.
Slamlock's, lock as soon as you close the door
Yep, slam locks.
Thank you 🍻
Where did you get the wheel trims and the clear side markers on the sprinter?? Enjoying the vario build
i got them from eBay
Did you say putting o rings back on in the reverse that you take them off ? Looks to me you put them on the same way you have taken them off???
Slam locks So make sure you have your keys with you 😅
Yeah 👍

Hi the vario is the biggest panel van ever made and they are unquestionably the most reliable the engine is known as the million mile engine 👍🍻👍
Hi Mel hope your well did you ever get to the bottom of what was making Mary go into limp mode ? As I can’t remember seeing any video if you did
It was a combination of different things that all started with a manifold leaking
