Don't know why people hate Prequels for the politics part, infact that's what makes them intresting. Though the set up is in some fantasy world but it's the political part which makes them relevant. IMO Revenge of the Sith is one the best morden Tragedies in the cinema history. Loved the analysis, keep making sch videos👍
Lucas said the films are for kids and kids arent interested in watching 40 minutes of politics in their space wizard adventure movie. Though looking back on it all these years later does make me see the politics in a better light than before

The Jedi's downfall was a result of corruption and arrogance. Had they become more open new ideals rather than close themselves off to their old traditions, both them and the Republic would have survived and grown stronger.
Your point on the empire being a patriarchy is wrong, in the cannon novels and animated shows we see there are female governors, soldiers and high ranking officials like admirals etc, while most soldiers in the films are male that’s probably down to how casting was 40 years ago

I would say, fortunately, my view of Disney’s acquisition of Star Wars hasn’t affected my view of the saga because the first six films are a complete story, of Anakin’s descent to the Dark Side and Luke’s role in overthrowing the Empire and saving his father. The Sequels feel more superfluous and derivative and didn’t feel like it added anything meaningful to the saga.
Interesting take on the "then we shall have peace" line -- I always just kind of took it as establishing security with an Iron Fist. Also "War is Peace Freedom is Slavery Ignorance is Strength" is meant to both serve as a countrywide motto to condition its public to doublethink and accept the Party Line on everything as truth as well as to condition the public to have negative connotations about things that don't directly serve The Party. It's all meant to be illustrative of how Fascist/Communist/Authoritarian governments condition their citizens to be obedient, servile, and docile.
I think this is a very good video and highlights some of the strong higher level materials and concepts (themes, ideas, and "feel") that are referenced, hinted at, or just presented poorly in the prequels. I still think the prequels are on the whole awful and weaken the whole franchise, especially the original trilogy, but the idea of the stories presented in and of themselves are good ones. As the OT was a product of its time in reflection to the US warfare issues, the prequels likewise are a product of its time in reflection to the rise of right-wing governments all around the world, and most recently the almost facist takeover of donald trump. you could almost say "partisan progressivism" is a product of a democratic system that fails to deal with the threats to democracy from the right again and again, as a result the US are as polarized as never before. the trumpists are modern fascists and the alt-right movement had alot of that xenophobic, mysagonistic, antidemocratic rethoric that made him popular. the jedi are personifications of that democratic system that fails to keep corporations and corruption in check, and they fail to recognize what really bugs people, and drives people to the right. Not their own inhumanity, no one on earth would ever assume his or herself inhumane, everyone is the hero of his/her own story. No, the constant feeling of loss of control driven through a moral impune system and a crumbling economy for the middle class. Sounds pretty political, but that is what makes the issue so interesting to discuss in these times. It is a relevant look at reality. For anyone of any political affiliation.

When making this movie George was looking for inspiration at the demise of the Roman Republic and Rise of Empire. It's interesting though that America's decline has taken sharp, similar turns.
