Thinking of building my first pc with the i9-12900k bundle from microcenter. Trying to decide on gpu. Thinking mid tier nvidea for now probably go with a remanufactured 3080 from eBay with a warranty to save some cash and upgrade later. Mostly 1080p gaming due to my current monitor but with some video editing. Currently running a dell g15 5515 with a ryzen 7 5800h and a 3060 6gb. Recently upgraded from 16gb of ram to 32gb of ddr4. It struggles with davinci resolve though.

@@crodoutdoorsso AMD GPUs actually work better for DaVinci vs Nvidia.

      @crodoutdoors 7 місяців тому

@@kelley09162 I'm not opposed to an amd gpu. Though when searching for info most of what i have read says the opposite. It probably wouldn't matter either way for me because I don't do a lot of editing and what I do is fairly basic. I would prefer new and was looking at that ebay 3080 only because of the warranty and hope they hold up to it and that they have several for $475 the last time I looked. If I went amd what would you suggest for under $600? I may end up doing more editing in the future and plan on upgrading to a better monitor, probably 1440p.

@@crodoutdoorsfor AMD the 7800XT is good.
I've just heard Jason say AMD performs better for DaVinci vs Nvidia so I'm trusting him on that
Also yes that Microcenter Bundle should be good. Either that one, the AMD 7700X one, or the 7800X3D one are good options.

I have an old fractal design case, 850W MSI psu, X570 Tomahawk, Samsung 990 pro that i just reinstalled my windows to, a few sata ssds, just upgraded to 5800x3d, Noctua DH15 big air cooler, RTX 4070, 2x16gb 3600 16-20-20 ram with xmp.
I am not looking for any upgrades quite yet. Never know if a game comes out that i really need to upgrade something on, like just happened with my 1070 i wanted to upgrade for Hogwarts Legacy. I play all kinds of games from League of Legends to newer titles.
2 monitors 1440p 165hz and 1080p 144hz. This 1080p 2nd monitor i keep at 60hz tho. My plans are to skip atleast 1 generation of gpus, and 1-2 more waves of releases for cpus before i probably need to buy almost everything new. So thats probably 6000-series nvidia, not sure what the amd numbers will be then.
I am not looking to upgrade to 4k. I am ok with switching to amd gpus, if they give enough of a reason for me to. I do not care very much about frame generations, upscaling or ray tracing, but i do value power consumption and fluent drivers. I am not on a very tight budget so a bit of a premium is ok for me. I mostly do gaming so amd cpus are what i mostly look for. Sure intel could turn my head around too. I prefer air cooling. For some reason i feel like liquid does not belong inside my computer, and i dont want to risk any leaks or disfunctions with liquid coolers.
Thanks for the great videos Jason!

Jason, thanks for these videos. They help a lot when buying and building PC’s. I just built a SFF (21L case) for a travel PC as I am away from home all but 2 weekends a month. I went with AM4, 5600, rx 7800xt, 32g ram, Asrock B550M PRO, Corsair SFX750, Thermalright Peerless Assassin, etc. After doing benchmarks, and optimizing, I have found that I cannot live with the CPU bottleneck as all I do with this PC is gaming (CoD, Apex, OW2, etc.). So, I just ordered a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, and better RAM (got a cheap 32g kit with higher CL, big mistake…lol). Thanks again!

my computer is 10 years old and dying. My R9 390 died and I went to get a card to get my machine running. I decided to get the RX-7800XT. Partly because it was one of 3 AMD cards my local shop had in stock. So now I am plotting to build a PC around that card. I am still on SATA SSDs and I have an 850w PSU so hopefully I can figure out a good build that's actually AVAILABLE IN STOCK to put together and hopefully not have to build another one for another 10 years or so. I currently only play at 1080p but that might change since I have a 4K TV as a monitor and if my new rig can do 1440 on ultra or 4K on high I might as well go for it. Just looking for the best cost to performance value and hoping those parts are available here when I get the cash together. I noticed that the old games that DON'T top out and try to cook my FX 6300 CPU are getting gigantic FPS boosts even though that card is being choked out by the rest of my ancient equipment so at least I am getting something out of dropping basically 800 bucks CAD on a new GPU. Oh and the PC I built 10 years before THIS one is still sitting up in my bedroom as a functioning spare. I seem to have good luck getting mileage out of these rigs. Hope it keeps up.

Here in New Zealand prices for PC components are unsurprisingly more expensive. Im currently trying to spec out a PC build for as close to $2000 NZD as possible ($1200 USD). However in order for this to be somewhat achieved I had to scale back on some components compared the build shown in this video. 7700 XT instead of a 7800XT, 80+ 750W Bronze instead of Gold, stock AMD R5 7600 CPU cooler instead of aftermarket cooler, but even then im actually still paying more than $2000 NZD / $1200 USD.

I've been using the 4070ti for 4K for the past few months and it's been amazing.
Definitely my suggestion for the Nvidia line.
I have to admit that I'm very curious about the performance of the 7900xtx, but I can't go back to their awful driver experience that I had with the 5700xt/6700xt.
From everything I've read on Steam forums in many different games, it looks like those problems still persist in the newer cards. Sad days, I love the idea of just having FSR upscaling in any fullscreen application over Nvidia's effective (but vary scarcely implemented) DLSS.

First time AMD owner here. Got my info from pc bulder.
AMD is def a learning curve software wise and tweaking. The 7000 series GPU draw allot more power on idle then Nvidia so be warned. I wasn't aware of this and went for AMD because they i thought they were giving better prices.
And while tweaking and problem solving can be fun, i'm already sometimes thinking when logging on, what will it be today and that feeling can be unpleasant. Especially when i just build my first rig 2 months ago.
Now it's pretty stable for idle power draw for just browsing but the AMD Adrenaline software is kind of bugging me since it does have a life of it own it seems when customizing settings. Browse allot on forums with regards to the idle power draw and problems if your in it for the long run.
While i only have experience with a Nvidia 1070, it was basically just plug and play,, but i'm not aware of how complex these higher Nvidia gpu's have become since i'm a new gamer. Atleast in the higher mid end now. Though i read that some users say they have allot more problems with nvidia.
      Good luck!

Thanks Jason - great video. In Australia, the 7900XTX is about AUD130 more than the 4070ti Super. However, the 4080 Super is AUD is AUD200 more than the 4080. The 4070ti Super is AUD 280 more than the 4070ti.
The price seems to match the performance (CPUBenchmark) rather than the MSRP. Exception is 7800XT which is cheaper than the 4070.

Hi, nice video. In comparison videos with games running side by side the A770 seemed to be trading blows with the AMD offering but I like the fact that you didn't dismiss the card outright and gave a reasonable response as to why you prefer the AMD card. This certainly was a much better approach than a lot of recent reviews and I look forward to watching more of your videos. I am likely to choose the intel card due to better (although light) ray tracing and pricing when I get around to making my next build but I wouldn't be adverse to using the AMD card either. In any case more than 8gb is a must I think as this build would have to last awhile and I am on a tight budget. I also like how you go through the other components. Keep up the good work.

when it comes to the 4k premium build, you can cheap out on the CPU, you don't need a 7800x3d, any 7000 series will do just fine, even with the stock cooler you can apply pbo and curve optimizer and get good gains, and then buy a xt or xtx instead of the nvidia card, thats what i did.. if you don't care about rt and think dlss is overrated, like i do :D

Jason I have a Microcenter nearby and they are currently running a 7800x3d bundle. Always appreciate your videos! The CPU/MOBO/RAM combined price picked here is $708.19. The current 7800x3d bundle is $449.99, so a difference of $258.20. I know with some of these bundles, they do not use the best motherboards or RAM. This one is using the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 and G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5-6000 PC5-48000 CL32. Would it be bad to go for this bundle versus the components you picked? I could either just save $258.20 or put that back into the build, maybe pick up a monitor. Thanks!

In the US you have different pricing than the rest of the world.
For me, the 7900XTX has the same price as the 4070TiSuper ...
In Raytracing they perform the same.
The 7900XTX has +50% more VRAM
In Rasterized performance it absolutely smoke the nVidia card. It's 1 tier up above it.
If I wanted to play in 4K, and I wanted to spend that much money I would just pick up the XTX.
Or. If I wanted to spend less, but same performance, I would get the 7900XT, which costs the same as the 4070Super here.

@@Frashsibit In the US 4070Super is 650$ a good model and the 7900XT is 670$ a good model.
It might not be the exact same price, like in my country, but it's close enough.
The same applies with those 1 tier up.
4080Super is out of stock at MSRP. I only found it at 1150$ the cheapest ugliest model. At 1250$ a so and so model, and at 1500$ a good model.
The 4070Ti Super is 850$ and the 7900XTX is 890$.
40$ for +8Gb of VRAM and 35% more rasterized performance in 4K ... lewl ... it's not that big of a difference bro.

Do you think RDNA 4 is going to deliver XTX performance with way lower power draw as it's supposed to be 4nm and monolithic instead of chiplet? • @nezu1657

it’s crazy how fast 1440p gaming has become affordable/attainable. but it’s also crazy how many avid gamers don’t even know about 1440p. Or maybe they don’t see the need to upgrade. It was night and day for me.
My PC with a 4080 super and 7800x3d I use for 360hz 1440p (just copped the alienware OLED). But it even struggles in the newest games to push a consistent 120+ (avatar for example). That being said, I find it very controversial to call the $750 build a straight up 1440p build. I think in these names you should preface the settings that you would have to run. I mean my 3080 and 5800x3D was getting 60-70 fps on high settings in avatar. To get to that 100ish range I would have to be on low. 100 is about the minimum fps that I would settle for a game to be enjoyable. And the 7600xt build is even lesser than that. I know i’m choosing only one game to compare, but that game is arguably the best looking game to date. and games will continue to be released that have that visual experience and are equally hard to run. Spider-man 2 is gonna release and be super hard to run on that 7600xt build just watch. I think the 7800xt is a great 1440p and will continue to be for years to come. The lifespan of that 7600xt at 1440p would be too short.

I have a big problem with choosing a graphics card. I hesitate between GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Windforce OC 16G (costs 4099 zł ~1014.6 $) vs ASROCK Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC 24GB (costs 4399 zł ~1088.86 $, but here I still have to buy a 850 W power supply 550 zł ~135.89 $) I take the whole thing on 0% installments. Currently I have Ryzen 5 5600X, 32 Gb ram 3600 Mhz, RTX 3060 Ti OC 8Gb,1440p monitor 27' Samsung Odyssey G7 (LC27G75TQSRXEN). In some time he wants to switch to AM5 with AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or similar and 64 GB Ram. And I mainly play singleplayer games (elder ring, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, Resident evil, BG3, Warhamer 40k Darktide. I want the best possible graphics from RT with stable 60 fps. I know that with this processor in both cases I will experience bottleneck but in a while I will replace the processor.

    • @Greenalex89
      @Greenalex89 7 місяців тому

Cyberpunk uses hardware based RT, even the 7900xtx only get about 50 fps or so in 1440p RT ultra, native res. Most other games (if they even have RT) use soft RT which high end AMD GPUs can handle fairly easily.
If u want to stay at 1440p and RT is super important to u, I might buy the 4070ti super. If u want to keep your card for a longer time, especially playing in native res, then the 7900xtx is a way better choice imo. I got mine undervolted for slightly less performance but its at 270-300W full load and 45C° only (60+ hotspot). So cooling and power is not an issue (I have sapphire nitro+).
In the end it depends on your preferences and how long u want to enjoy games.

Thank you for the recommendations. I am currently planning on getting a mid-high end gaming PC and was wondering if a 7600X + 4080 super is a reasonable alternative for 7800X3D + 4070 ti super? The prices for the combos are relatively similar here.
