I would like to remind everyone that videos like this on the Internet are SUBJECTIVE opinions. I am not saying this is a worse version than the 2013 one, I am saying that I was expecting a bigger improvement after 10 years, considering how great other modern LEGO models look nowadays. This one does not seem modernized much.
For those who criticize me for still wanting to buy it despite my criticism - the X-wing is my favorite starfighter and ever since I left my dark ages, I wanted a UCS one. And this is the only one we are getting for another 10 years or more. That is why it is so bitter sweet. I wanted it to be better for such an iconic craft and I know it could've been better cause LEGO is capable of brilliant models today. It is either this or a MOC, which would be far more expensive to build at such scale. Thank you watching!

Don't be such a coward. Claiming that the angles are all wrong compared to the movie one is an OBJECTIVE opinion since it is either correct and the angles don't match or it is incorrect and the angles actually do match. Hiding behind 'It's just my subjective opinion bro' is honestly just a cowardly thing to do.

Right, they did the same with other UCS sets like Obi Wan's Starfighter, and Republic Gunship.
Nice large models, no doubt but they don't have the proper extras that makes it stand out as a highly detailed model.
Besides the UCS playsets with all the play features and figures, these iconic ships need to have that extra sheen like you said. Something that makes is unique to any of its smaller versions through the years.

The wings on the new X-Wing model sag like crazy, so I still prefer the 2013 model personally. Yes, I know about the stickered canopy, but tbh, I just made a brick built canopy that looks so much better than even the printed piece on the new X-Wing. Lego should have kept the smaller engine size on the new model so that the wings did not weigh so much and ruin the design, which in turn ruins the whole set since it has no good displayability without putting unnecessary stress on it's rubber bands, which the 2013 model had none of for it's mechanism need I remind you.

    • @5aitama638

@@noahpatterson5430 true the new model used rubber bands but they’re used in a way that’s put barely any stress on them in well almost any position if you actually look at inside. Also the wings barely sag when in the X-shape I’ve had it in the same position for maybe 8 months and I genuinely cannot tell the difference or if it’s dropped even the slightest it looks new

Lego really should have made a new uniquely shaped transparent canopy piece to better capture the angles of the X-Wing cockpit. Reusing the old one just makes it look off especially when Mike mentioned the straight lines of the fuselage against the canopy being totally wrong for this redesign. We know Lego can do better and they should have here. At least the engines are bigger and more proportional.

Some people think the Earth is flat and they're morons. See what I mean...? Watch Jang's video and you'll see that there are many improvements. I am informed and opinionated based on what I see on the pictures and how I feel about the looks of the ship. I do not own the 2013 version and did not have a chance to buy it at MSRP. @@TheCoolFactor I was illustrating the fact that not all opinions are equal. Opinions are not sacred. They are not without flaws. Just constantly stating that your opinion is subjective does not shield it from being challenged. One of your complaints is that the set is not "accurate." That's not a subjective judgement. You are objectively comparing it to something else, in this case the design of the actual model used in the film. And objectively, this set is closer to the actual film version. To claim otherwise is, like I said, blissfully ignorant. I'm not telling you to base your opinion on Jang's. I'm telling you to base your opinion on the evidence presented in his video, which he based his opinion on. In short, all opinions should be based on the best information possible. If your opinion is based on a just a few pictures and his is based on a much deeper analysis, his opinion, his conclusion, is more valid than yours. Like I said, opinions aren't sacred. In fact, there's kind of an old saying about opinions...

I think looking for 100% film accuracy is really asking for too much. The vast majority of Lego pieces are completely or partially rectangular in shape, that is going to come with unavoidable limitations.
We can't expect Lego to produce sets that are both structurally stable and 100% accurate and it's unreasonable to expect this. 100% accurate is also pointless endeavor when, and I say this as a huge Star Wars fan, 99.99% of fans won't notice a minor detail that's missing or slightly off-model.

Thanks for the comment! I am not asking for a 100% accuracy. But the nose, which takes pretty much 50% of the entirety of the model, is an important piece to at least try to get closer to what it looks like in the lore. It has angles that are important to capture and never really been done right before in official LEGO sets. They captured the A-wing so well at this scale, for example! At such a large scale, and seeing how LEGO can design other models, such an iconic starship should at least incorporate some of these angles and not go for the easier, straight design solution.

00:51 that’s what TLG seems to be counting on with sets likes this and the UCS Luke’s Land speeder last year. The “I don’t want it but I will get it” sales angle. Don’t get it, that way LEGO might learn the way they have done with the UCS Hulkbuster or Black Panther bust.
01:10 Yep. I mean the Land Rover classic defender has more pieces (and more VIP points) for the same price. And it’s a reasonable comparison IMHO given they are both AFOL focused sets with big IP attached to them.
03:14 yeah the engine size looks better but the wings now look too small to me.
Really what I think LEGO should’ve done with this as a UCS set is rather than do a big X-wing, to a perfectly minifigure scaled version. As you said there are so amazing MOC X wings in minifigure scale which replicate the ship much better. And in order to bring the piece count up to a UCS point do like the aforementioned Land Rover set or the delorean set- include extra parts and pieces to turn it from Luke’s red 5 as seen ANH, then have accessories to make it look like it does in ESB where it’s cover in moss and swamp vines.
Either that or just go bigger with the UCS set and don’t try and put minifigures/R2s inside it.

This was such a tight fit requiring a lot of force that I ended up knocking several pieces off and had to reattach them in the aftermath.

As well, the wings touch, i.e., close completely when closed not a huge gap! The nose sucks. R2 is WAY out of scale. It’s just ugly. The studs and tiles clash terribly. Lego has made mostly snot models that work really well, and also more traditional studded models that also work well. This x wing is just a visual mess. And the angles are so off especially that nose-who thought of that

You want a movie acurate model? Buy a model kit. You want a LEGO set X-Wing, buy this. Also, this set isn't for you, re-releases are for people who don't want to pay 3x 4x on BL for the older sets.

    • @CRNGD
      @CRNGD Рік тому +12

Isn't the point of UCS sets meant to be Ultimate Collector Sets with higher accuracy and larger scale than the normal Lego sets?
Also, this isn't even a re-release. It's a new set that was redesigned from the ground up. Even comparing it to the older UCS, it doesn't have similar angles, has different greebling, different scale with the wings, etc.
If the point of UCS was re-releasing sets, why even redesign it? Why make anything new? They could just re-release stuff over and over without innovation, new pieces, new building techniques, plates, brackets, studs, minifigures, and so on. Lego should just stick to making wooden ducks.
Lego admittedly has tons of leniency regarding its models and sets because it's intended for kids and so on, but UCS isn't meant for kids. It's meant to be a MORE accurate model than their main lego sets, hence the higher price barrier they have had.

    • @TheCoolFactor

I expect UCS line to be as detail-driven and movie-accurate as possible. And having a completely wrong shaped front at this scale is something I will criticize. We are paying pretty penny for these. The A-wing had more accurate and sleek design. Sure, I could go for a Bandai X-wing but in LEGO the UCS line is supposed to represent the highest end model. This one doesn't seem that way.

I didn't;t like a lot of things in that 2013 set, and I do think this one is better. It is ideal? Hell No! I'm totally agree that the body is too bulky and the nose is too big, but this still looks better than the plane one in 2013.

The minifig R2 looks stupid put in there. Just dumb to make a slot for it. Just have R2 on the display stand with Luke.
