    I remember having to really force myself to mow the lawn. but I did it anyway. my sister called me and I told her what I did. she has depression issues also. she understood me and started crying. I had 20 sessions of ECT and it saved my life.

    This happens to me a lot, if I don’t have to go out I won’t and I love days off from life but I have to admit once I’m out there, I’m fine and it does feel good 🙄... but secretly missing my sanctuary/haven under the covers 🥰

    Thank you, Douglas, for your openness & practical advice. I like that you included the comment "give yourself permission to have the day off" this is extremely powerful as Depression is a relentless "self-depreciation" often so this comment of yours gives a lot of comfort to show ourselves compassion in the midst of our inner voice putting us down.
    May God continue to bless you Douglas 🙏🙏🙏

    Yep I felt so low and depressed lately after moving to another location. Yesterday I started running again and felt much better.
    I keep having visions of my old, sold appartment. I truly feel this depression feelings started after moving to another town. Doubts, regrets of my choice and torturing myself what did I do to myself..
    I was not this up and down.
    I do walk, run and cycle and I paint a wall in my house these things help me!! Also watching funny YT video's. And not pressuring myself when I feel like just doing nothing during a day. So my challenge is not to go outside but I do suffer from feeling alone and not feeling myself in my new house. New kitchen but I'm not happy...
    In my appartment I felt happy and proud....
    I have less positive emotions in my new environment.
    I read that depression can be caused by moving locations.

    • @DouglasBloch
      @DouglasBloch  3 роки тому

      Yes, moves can be very stressful. However humans are very adaptable and can get used to new circumstances. Have you reached out to a counselor to talk about your feelings?

    • @peaceofmindofpeace1650
      @peaceofmindofpeace1650 3 роки тому +1

      @@DouglasBloch I told my doctor she was very empathic. I moved many times in my life but this time it's different, to another part of the country with different culture.
      Honestly my trust for counselors is low bc I had a traumatic experience with violence and after that I felt belittled or insulted a lot. Not by counselors but by employer, HR couch etc also in the hospital.
      I did talk to a professional from a
      s. violence center and she told me I was doing well healing myself. My fear is that a counselor will touch my autonomy.
      Maybe because I was forced before.
      I will be ok though I appreciate your reply thanks 😊
      I'm glad I felt safe to tell my new doctor.
      Bottom line is that after stormy times I sold and bought a house so maybe it was to much. At the other hand I went through painful legal process and I think when I finally hear an outcome I will be assured I am far from the old address. My employer didn't really respect my need to heal so I started working quickly after the trauma plus I wanted to keep working to be able to sell my appartment.
      It was to much all together with little support but I will overcome I trust myself. 🙏 Thank you

    I’m starting to record my own videos for UA-cam, it’s not for the result it’s part of like you say it’s something new to do, so my brain can’t simply dominate my entire day the old routine. Adding to it I’m trying to get back into design, cooking and fitness. Everything I can even if my negative mind thinks it’s pointless. After I’ve done these things I feel like my world has expanded slightly, giving my depression more work to do, spread it’s power more thinly vs watching tv on the sofa all day. Anyway thanks as usual.

    Why does our brain fight with us even when we know what we're doing is bad. You would think we could develop a mechanism that stops us from doing this?

    Question: does depression and chronic fatigue go hand in hand? How do you shake the fatigue feeling? I want the tiredness to go away. Makes doing things painful.. Like physically painful

    • @DouglasBloch
      @DouglasBloch  4 роки тому +1

      I don't think they're the same. Chronic fatigue is a medical syndrome. You might want to find someone who treats, perhaps a Naturopath

    I've been extremely depressed for sixty years. I don't want to get out of bed but do only because I have my beautiful elderly dog to walk twice a day. Unfortunately I end up walking and crying at the same time. Nothing I do seems to stop this.

      @@DouglasBloch I have been on antidepressants since the age of ten. I have been hospitalized and had ECT. I'm currently seeing a psychoanalyst once per week for about nine months now. Previous to that I saw many psychiatrists. I'm thinking of stopping the psychoanalyst appointments as I feel I've given it my best but I'm not getting better. Psychiatrists don't seem to help, infact sometimes they make me worse. I had a very emotionally abusive childhood that I can't get past and this has affected me all my life. I am now a recluse and have no desire to make contact with people. From my point of view, after all these years, there is no cure and the only help is medication. My only comfort is my little dog. My constant worry is losing her as she is not well at 15. I'm old and very tired of the constant struggle to live. My only regret is that I failed in my attempted suicide years ago. I actually look forward to getting cancer or another incurable disease so I can refuse treatment and just die. I'm tired of the struggle.

    I seriously think there needs to be a bed invented for those with depression. It will fold and unfold at a preset times, say unfold and 11pm and fold into the wall at 9am automatically. And this function will not be possible to override. This will force me to get up and have nowhere to lay down after

      There is something called systematic desensitization that is used here in the United States to help people get over phobias. You might ask about it with your doctor.

    Imagine a life where you could actually just be like 'Ah, I feel too depressed to work today, the bills will wait and my boss won't fire me, no worries, i'll take the day off' - This is a very very rare scenario for the common person, if only it was this easy :/
    The other advice was good though, as usual.
