Thanks!
It's amazing that the military HMMWV is such an old design now, and it's still one of the best off-roaders out there.
As long as you don't need to get down a tight trial they are great.
@@atodaso1668 The trails widen themselves. In all fairness, as long as you don't mind pinstripes in the paint - it's not that bad. If you can fit a fullsize pickup down the trail, the H1/HMMWV will fit.
The HMMWV's had a lot of "goodies" that were at the time, unheard of - but later became almost bog standard equipment on later 4x4's. The great part about them is the completely flush underbody - as long as an obstacle clears your bumper, you can drive over it and not worry about it catching anything on the bottom.
@@nothingtoseaheardammit You clearly haven't wheeled in the west coast mountains, good luck forcing a Hummer through 10" wide tree trunks.
@@atodaso1668 You're right, I haven't. But I have a bunch of friends that drive their H1's all over and around the Colorado mountains. My buddy Eric takes his Humvee out into the California mountains for days at a time. Hell, most of the Hummer Club events are out in Colorado :)
It’s incredible when you take a serious off-roader and compare it to the other vehicles
Yes!!! Finally a humvee episode!
Thank you guys all, what a great off roader and a skilled driver with foot controlled limited slip diff's 😂. Amazing machine, amazing driver.
As a former driver of a HMMWV, the door popping open is pretty on brand. I also got mine so stuck that a M1 had to pull me out much to the XO’s embarrassment.😂
The changes made of better seats, turbo and 4 speed trans makes the older hmmwv vs newer one amazingly different. Comfortable and 75-80 mph is no problem.
Door issue never fixed except the civilian units.
But I wish my 95 Hummer had the X pattern instead of the squarish thing.
My favorite run of this course so far. Brings back memories.
"You are the first person to even look at that and say 'I want to go up that' " - and there you have - perfectly enunciated - the struggle of the HMMWV/H1 owner. Everything, I mean everything, wants to be driven over :P
Especially cars in traffic 😉
This takes me back to 1991 and my first duty station with 5th Marines at Camp San Mateo. We drove these everywhere at Camp Pendleton getting them muddy and filled with sand. They were slow and loud, and always a bit musty smelling…or maybe that was us😂.
Mateo gate. That was the sneaky way into pendleton 😎
Case is quickly becoming the new star of TFL. His videos are quickly becoming my favorite to watch.
We’ll said, Allen
Good ol 6.5 diesel just putting along.
“That looks like fun. I’m gonna drive up that”
But…. That’s a literal wall. There’s no way-
“Imma drive up that.”
I love how confident he is with his vehicle. That's awesome. You can tell he has done some gnarly things
1st off, 100% kudos to Jordan for schooling these guys on what a true experienced off road person can do with the proper rig. 👏 This dwarfs what has been done in the past and you did things I would have requested to do to show that it is not about being a prissy little mall crawler. That their course while difficult, has potential to take things to the next level. And regardless of the condition of the course, it should be run year round to be a challenge. I keep saying they should have run the Unimog back there and it would have set the bar higher and proved that course is do-able.(year round) Or the 6x6 Oshkosh. Are those things typical of what you would see at hard OR courses? No. But to imply that section of Tumbleweed Ranch is too difficult during the winter to attempt just got blown out of the water. Where is the fun if it is too easy? 😉
Its offical.. The bar has been raised here for this course.. Im pretty confident that no other truck other then another hummer/humvee can make that course look almost easy lol. What a beast and a great driver! Yes bring him back for the summer run. ☺

@@dalefrolander3583 im not sure if thats street legal like this humvee though
Dodge M-37
@@Legendary-2024 true. They do drive them onto little trailers to take them places though. They're 3500 lbs, so not too heavy to tow.
@@dalefrolander3583WOW they look like they would weigh a lot more than that.
Loud , slow and fun ….. sounds like every Honda Civic at local car meets.
As a former Honda owner in the late 90’s early 2000s there is no better feeling than rowing those gears and initiating a four wheel drift at 80 on a canyon road. Guaranteed those Honda guys are enjoying driving their car, even if you aren’t too happy with their choices.
THANKS GUYS 🙏...HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY EVERYONE ✌️.......😍😍😍 CAMERA NINJA ALEX
I think this is my favorite episode of the tumbleweed off road course. I would definitely like to see more Humvee videos. I would take this humvee over TFL’s white electric hummer any day!
Absolutely agree. The electric Hummer is a pile of garbage. This thing just smoked the course.
I would take an electric humvee.
It’s a comfort to know that our U.S. Service men & women have such a capable vehicle at their disposal.
Power numbers have always been lacking in HMMWVs, especially 30 years ago when I was in the Army driving them, but they sure will go pretty much anywhere you point them.
Guys, I grinned the entire episode. Excellent content.
Still the best off roader. Thanks for the video!
He Reminded me of Lucas McCain the Rifleman.
I have a lot of experience with these 😎 These original light-skin versions are pretty amazing offroad. It has massive ground clearance, 4-wheel independent suspension, a completely protected flat bottom and amazing approach and departure angles. The up-armored versions are not as great. They're obviously a lot heavier and tend to get bogged down in the mud and challenging terrain. The weak point is the powertrain, but you have to consider that the engine management is completely mechanical due to EMP resistance. 😁
I looked at that cliff and thought about whether I could get my Jeep up it. Didn’t think I could. Props to Justin. He’s clearly got skills and that should never be underestimated off road.
I took mine through a mud hole ,with a group of people in various 4x4s. The only two trucks that made it was me and a guy with a a highly modified TJ. My HMMWV is completely stock. I had the pleasure of pulling out a brand new Sasquatch Bronco 😂.
This brings back memories. Spent many hours in the Humvee while in the military. Another great episode.
I am not sure now if HummerEV deserves to use its name.
Props for driving skills. Nicely done.
I miss driving those. Served 9 years in the Army at Fort Campbell, KY. Deployed 3 times.
US Marine here...can confirm. These things will go over/through basically anything. They overheat (ESPECIALLY when up-armored and/or towing), are woefully underpowered and uncomfortable af but they are pretty tough and basically unrivaled off road. I've done things in these that would get most 4x4s stuck without even going to 4 high. I love them so.
Ya our army FLAs are turbo ones, they are a little bit better power wise. Of course the patient compartments make them feel top heavy but you can blast through anything lol
Could you imagine this thing on some super swamper tires? Wild
I would love to see how the Pinzgauer would do on your course. Any chance you can get Eric Johnson bring his back for another video? And I see a lot of comments are from people who spent time with Humvees while serving in the military. Thank you to all of you for your service!
I worked with a Humvee every day for three years. I even went through a training program and learned how to drive a remote-controlled Humvee. You can walk around on the hood as long as you don't step on louvers - those will break. The military issue version is uncomfortable to ride in for extended periods, noisy, and slow, and will go nearly anywhere.
Best looking off-roader in my opinion. Like which car looks more badass than a humvee? People always curious and ask questions about it too.
This was one of the most entertaining TFL vidoes ever. Thanks guys.
I had a blast wondering if that HUMV would make through some of those nail biting obstacles.
5,000 miles and probably 50 oil changes, portal gear oil changes, dif oil service, fuel filters, and transmission services. Wether they move or not we service them.- Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic Army
Torsen differentials are a military favorite.
AM General who makes the Humvee, is Jeep's military arm. So, it is a Jeep.
AM General is separate from Jeep -- it was spun off by AMC in 1971 after they bought Jeep in 1970 from Kaiser-Jeep and eventually bought by LTV. By the time the HMMWV was being designed and built, Jeep were no longer in the picture. You could just as easily say it's a Studebaker, as they are the company that had the government contract for trucks, and it is that division that evolved into AM General... AM General also made DJ-5 mail Jeeps and M-151s, so it's a little more complicated.
someone needs to make a video of the humvee and the mega cruiser on the same trail showing how each one performs.
I love the military hmmwv
now that the course has dried out a bit at 14:11 it really shows what I got hung up on in the power wagon. I knew there was some weird hard angled shelf there, kept forcing me over into the tree.
What a great video. That is the ultimate offroader
Fantastic! My wife is looking to get a new SUV, and she has been wanting a new Toyota Rav4 Hybrid , but with this for sale maybe with your help we can convince her this should be her next vehicle. Please comment some good lines I can use.
Never get stuck in the Starbucks drive thru again.
@@jordantownsendracing5782 lol, thats a good one, my wife's day begins with her stop at Starbucks, thx
@@reenergizemeSee there tell her how much money yall will save if she gets it but dont tell her until you buy it that's it's because she won't fit in Starbucks no more or wait don't say she won't fit your talking bout the humvee cause you may be sleeping in it buddy.
Fantastic episode, definitely more of these off road legends on this course, big thanks to Jorden❤️🙏👍
Awesome video, spent time in those in the early years of the HMMV, was great to see Jordan kinda show what they are capable of.
That brought back memories of when I used to have an H1. It was a lot of fun.
The H1/HMMWV platform, definitely the most capable vehicle that you can purchase from the factory floor in stock configuration and still be able to park in a underground parking garage, standard height garage door, and drivethru.
I did find it funny though how they stated that the CanAM Commander was the right recovery rig today. If that HMMWV did get stuck I don't think that would do much to recover it.
When you talk about a Humvee you need to mention the gear reduction hubs that give you more torque and added clearance at all four wheels
I have a love / hate relationship with military Humvees, but they are probably the best off road vehicle I have ever had. People ask what I think about them and I say they are a fat squatty jeep that doesn't hold much, doesn't get great fuel milage, doesn't go fast, but they are great off road, and get a lot of attention in parking lots. My favorite meme is "Have you ever had a hardon and a migraine at the same time...get a military Humvee. PS...where did you get the X door reproductions?
Great job guys loved it !
Oh I wish I had the cash!! Very nice setup! I’m really digging the Flathead County plates! I grew up in Kalispell!!
Great job with the video. H1's are my favorite. This man knows what he is doing. I have driven H2&3's no competition.
I want to see how the CanAm does.
Geez, this takes me back to about 1988 when I PCS'd to Germany. The first thing they had to do was teach me to drive a HMMWV. That was a trip and a half.
My favorite episode of the course
I used to work on those in the army, and thats 100% the real milage, those very often got sent out with less than 3500 miles
TFL Offroad would be a great sponsor on the side of Jordan's race trucks!!
I agree 👍
Wow, wasn’t expecting that
The King always and forever!
Drove hummv in the Army. We played with ambulance models to see where they could go. They can go pretty much anywhere needed.
They weren’t great on pavement, but neither is my gladiator, though much better.
They remind me of one another. Slow but steady.
Those Humvees are bad ass off-road. I rode in one at Haspin Acres in Indiana, some of those trails were damn near a vertical climb and the Humvees did it with ease. There was an old Willy's jeep out with us too, that did pretty good as well considering it had the stock NDT tires and a motor that produces under 90 HP. I'd like to see someone run that course with a M35 series or 800/900 series 5 ton.
The M35 with NDTs would get stuck pretty in the mud probably
@@hummerguy
It it had NDT's on it, yeah, that's a good probability, but if it has AT type tires it's definitely more off-road capable.
That things a beast
Low CoG and 8 feet wide..
Best stability
That is EXACTLY how those are meant to be driven. Slow and controlled, but can go anywhere.
Two of my cousins owned Humvees. They stank of Diesel fumes, had very little room to sit inside, and were very expensive to fix when something broke...which was often. Other than that they were fun.
Yeah, this was AWESOME!!!!
Wow. That really demonstrates the capabilties built into a vehicle optimized for offroad vs for onroad use.
Fun video, thank you TFL!
so badass....love it ...great vid
It's refreshing watching someone with a cheat code walk through your course lol.
I want to see Tommy or other TFL crew reactions to this beast demolishing the coarse.
14:44 that door 😂 this thing is a beast!!
It is an amazing and magnificent vehicle.
Great video! Look it’s a military vehicle. It must perform better than any civilian vehicle. Otherwise it failed its mission. Amazing Ground clearance with portal axles
Gotta love Humvees.
Case at 9:40 *fastens seatbelt 👍
This guy was rad!
I remember Justin with his 2019 Power Wagon saying the same thing. On camera the course doesn't look as impressive as it does in person. And that they have a really good offroad test course there.
Spent decades in those things in all different places. Only time I got stuck was when we high sided.
Oh my dream vehicle! I just bought an 07’ 5.9 Cummins for $30k. But this hummer is also $30k hmmm comfort for performance. Maybe he’ll trade😅
Very impressive! As you said, it does set a new bar for the challenge for all other vehicles to meet..or pass. What would be wonderful to see go through, and maybe even push the bar up would be one of Matt's Offroad vehicles. I am sure the Banana and the Morvair would do really well, but I think the new mosnter wrecker might just be the next vehicle to advance that bar.
I like these types of videos. Always enjoy these
Awesome rig ❤
Ahhhh now we're talkin :) This guy - he knows what he's talking about with HMMWV's.
Showed this to a marine buddy and he said, "You should ride straight down a mountain in one when Lance Cpl. Schmuckatelli is driving and starts taking AK fire. That open door is a freakin convenience when its time to exfil!" :)
Damn. Very capable truck and a very nice guy.
I remember being able to buy these for almost nothing on ebay back in the early 2000s. What a missed opportunity. As a tax prayer, I'll take one as my return next year Mr irs.
When we were allowed to push our vehicles while I was in the Army, I found that there are very few things that this truck won't do
Best video so far
Well I have disregarded the humvees as not as capable for years. Umm this has impressed me. Now I must buy one... thanks man.... 31k hmm... maybe. We will see how things go come August. This may be in my future.
The passenger front wheel hurt my brain at 17:00. How is that not a snapped tie rod?
Amazing.
The most rugged macho truck on tumble weed ranch.
Do an off road versus between this HmmVee and the Hummer EV.
This course/ ranch is awesome..
No need to go into the mountains here
LiteBrite channel put their $150,000+ jeep against a $30,000 humvee and it was pretty even with the Hummer a little better actually
TFL should buy it!
A humvee is the crown Victoria of the off-road
That was awesome
Nice , they did design that thing to go thru , over anything.
