I've raced with lando several times on iracing. Notice how i said raced with and not against. We were in the same race, only thing is by the time the race was over he was usually about 20 or so seconds ahead of me lol
I've only been in a session with Lando once, it was an IMSA race where he was in GTE and I was in GT3. I've also seen Max Verstappen in an F3 practice, Shane van Gisbergen in a Bathurst practice, and Scott Speed in a rallycross practice. In the same session... not necessarily on the same level :P

You can build a rig that's functionally identical to this for around £6,000. Average house price in UK is £240,000 To be honest a G29 or t300 stuck on a desk with RF2 , AC , iracing , R3E lets you enjoy sim-racing and still learn tracks and that can be done for under £300. That's what's awsome with sim-racing unlike real racing it's really not about having money and expensive kit. The expensive kit is just nice for immersion and some specific training.
Great for you guys to feature this. I enjoy iRacing myself and love that real world racers like Lando, Rubens Barrichello, Sebastian Loeb, Scott McLaughlin, Shane Van Gisbergen, a whole host of US Nascar drivers among many others use it as a legitimate training tool to keep themselves sharp.

@@itsalx1688 Ok then, but both Karting and Go-Karting drivers do it. I'm amateur and mostly drive in races with rentals, but there are some serious talents there. I saw a video the other day where Lando Norris entered a race of rental karts with some friends, and even in qualifying he couldn't go beyond 5th place. But long story short... rental kart drivers also lean forward in the straights sometimes.
yeah without Alonso.. the thing is people think that car is fine but driver is the reason.. ffs either you people are just forgot how bad is the car or just don't know anything about what's going on for few years Vandoorne had very good history of racing before f1 but no matter what Alonso always outqualified and always ahead of him even with almost same car hell even managing to get to q2 with McLaren is hard thing to do but Alonso somehow pushed the limits of the car and managed to do it (not always) i hope this young gent's career doesn't get hampered by the car (not McLaren but car) and with a little bit of luck he can have a future on f1
With Vandoorne it wasn't just about having Alonso as his teammate. He simply wasn't that good. Yes Alonso is a very tough benchmark but Vandoorne hasn't shown enough to write it off to the car. He's been way behind consistently.

I'm no where near making it as a professional in f1

Great to see Lando’s simulators. For all the naysayers out there saying there only games, you really misunderstand. Coupled with VR they are an absolute thrill ride in your living room, and a real training tool, from the hobbyist to the real racer 👍🏻
I’ve been thinking about buying a sim setup to help me shave off some time. Keeping in mind that most of my budget goes to buying tires and brakes, about how much does a “good” VR sim setup cost?
@@johnd9357 1.000$ for a good seat and rig + 800$ for pedals + 700$ for steering wheel and feedback and maybe 1200$ for PC + VR. So a total of ~3500$. It's a great setup then though, with high quality products.

i have always been inspired by simulation racing ever since grand prix legends , after about a week of spinning the car round in the pits, i managed to get a 3% world time on the track monza in the lotus 49, with norris's setup i might get back into it again, good luck in f1 race today lando!
Looking forward to seeing this guy battling it out with Russell next season. McLaren and Williams are at a low point right now, but I want to believe they will start improving come next year.
I love it when real drivers embrace the home simulator. It’s the future of motorsports. It’s really to bad Codemasters has the official F1 license. Someone else could make a much better title.
To be fair, Codemasters is doing a good job in the latest games really, it's not a simulator but it has all the elements of realism just made easier by having more grip, unlike every other game dev who decides that not being a simulator means they must make the handling as easy as possible so you can win everything on the first go without much concentration... Plus they got the game pad assists just right; at least in the 2017 game, they have no controllability disadvantage vs wheel users so they can go just as fast without going so far that it would disadvantage wheel users and that's important for bringing more people into the racing genre, especially for the simulators.

He did well on the sim. It's the real settings with almost no assists there. All those people who post videos "without" assists and with some astonishing records just lie through their teeth. They do use some assists you can feel it by the way the car behaves. Lando is spot on by saying "you will spin out". Of course, he will spin out. He is not used to not having no assists. The only thing which is not needed with real pedals is ABS. You can break more efficiently by braking without letting the wheels lock (not pushing the brake totally to the floor) rather than using the pulsing of the ABS system. All other assists mostly make you a much better driver. They usually SIGNIFICANTLY improve lap times. But the most important thing they do is help you out by correcting your mistakes, or even preventing you from spinning out. People literally push the throttle too hard in the corners and still don't lose the car. That was not an option here :))) So he kept losing the car.
All assists other than abs and friction control make you slower. Traction control can cut power to wheels unnecessarily and stability control makes the car jittery in the corners.

I would give the reporter 7/10 he was only 1.4 sec off Lando's time and he is one of the fastest drivers in iRacing, so I think he did pretty well

Codemaster has the license because F1 wants to earn money. A simcade is more accessible for casual players than a sim, so it gets more sales.
UA-cam recommended this why ever, but I think he is one of the best drivers on the grid and could give Mercedes and redbull a good run for they money
