"Country Boy Creepers" - yes, I save all my large cardboards for just this purpose Steve. Merry Christmas sir!
That reminded my of a story that is funny now but could have been a disaster. I used to have to pull the transmission out of my 62' Chevy on a regular basis when I first started driving. Fast forward a couple of years, I was in my mid twenties and building my house. The contractor was going away for the weekend and he asked me if I would change out the clutch on his mason dump truck. I said not problem. I went to his shop and worked in his garage, I removed the power take of from the trans and slid under the transmission just like I did on the Chevy. I pulled the trans out and it dropped down on my chest just like my old Chevy 3 speed. The only problem was that is was about 3 times the weight of what I was expecting. I was stuck under the truck, working all alone, with the trans sitting on my chest and I could not move. I finally maneuvered around enough that I was able to roll the trans off onto the floor and escape. Needless to say I used a trans jack to put it back in. Enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Looking forward to next weeks video.
Same thing happened to a buddies brother! He was used to 3 speed transmissions and pulled the cast iron 4 speed out of his 68 Roadrunner.
He got Trans off himself as well, but was scared for a bit.
Watching Bobby "help" you two remove that transfer case made my Xmas morning!
gotta say love the old stuff no etorx, torx, special tools or computers, diagnosis involves a strobe light and mk1 eyeball...... can't beat it.
Did you by chance install that case adapter seal backwards? It looked like the lip was out on the one you removed but you installed the replacement with the lip in. I've installed a few twin stick kits, that one is very nice. Folks don't think the FWD item is anything good, but it can make maneuvering around things easier if the front is pulling while you steer and don't have the rear end trying to push as well. Want an odd test, On pretty much every one of them that I've installed if you drive it with only the front engaged they get better MPG!
on mine, the seal worked both directions, I'd imagine it's the same on his. on older cases, or as an option on the newer models, you used two seals installed facing each other.
Ill have to give that a 2nd look. I may have installed it backwards 😖😊. It was two days later when the new seal was installed.
Saw the same thing.
Yep, it was backwards. Repaired!
Thanks to everyone who noticed . Santa knows I would have missed it.
Well spotted, Blazer!! And good catch, Steve. Cheers to you both.
Well, I have trust issues and no way I let someone lower a jack near me. It works for you two, go for it!!
zero deaths even though bobby did most the work... i'm impressed 🙂
Little Bobby has pretty impressive mechanical skills😁
@@SteveSummers and doesn't need a creeper!
Compliments of the season to you , Elizabeth and family. Have a great time, thanks for all the really interesting videos throughout the year.
Being a 60's baby, I grew up around old jeeps, Dodges and other four wheel drive vehicles that had twin sticks and no lock out hubs. I always liked the idea you could simply throw the box in to low for example to back up a steep ramp or hill or ease a heavy trailer into a tight spot with out burning up the clutch or having the 4WD pushing you around on hard ground and hampering maneuverability . I can see the case for front wheel drive only option. Good mod if you ask me.
Agree a proper line drawing is far better than photos.
This is Bill, our phones are in my wife's name, so I come up as Marla all the time.
Your videos are great. I love watching you work, both the machines and the vehicle repairs.
Do you know how lucky you are? Not only is your wife very pretty, she likes helping and learning in the shop. What more can a man ask for!
Thank you for putting the original music back I missed it.
You have a lovely wife and a great family. I had to do a hard reset and realize today is Saturday. You and the family have a Merry Christmas.
I'm really enjoying this truck repair series. You've inspired me to do some rust repairs and a repaint on my 2005 f350 dually 4wd. 💪
*Thank You* Steve for the videos this year. They have been greatly appreciated and I hope you and your family have a good plus you all stay and warm. 👍
That low range rear wheel drive is the best feature for real world use. Keep up the good work!
Seasons greetings Steve, Elizabeth and family. I have loved the output you guys have supplied us with this year, looking forward to more of the same next year.
Way to go Elizabeth, great assistance with that transfer case removal!! Such a helpmate. Def want to see YOU at the wheel, you've earned your burnout! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Steve would not be able to do any of this work without Elizabeth !!!
Merry Christmas Steve Summers and family.
Thank you for making these videos for us and sharing a part of your lives with strangers.

I busted a driveshaft driving in 4wd on dry road. Never repeated that mistake.

John

Merry Christmas Steve and Elizabeth. The world is a better place with you two in it!
Hi Steve and Elizabeth,
Learned something new about having the front wheels powered independent of the rear. Merry Christmas to you both and the family and hope you all have a safe holiday season.
Thanks for all that you do. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas Steve, Elizabeth, Family and Grits! Thank you for sharing your journey! I can look back on years of enjoyable Saturday Mornins and Thank You Steve! God Bless

Merry Christmas Steve, Elizabeth and your family. What a treat for Christmas morning. 🎄🙏
Merry Christmas Elizabeth and Steve. I enjoy the videos you make and learn something every time. I think that you installed the seal backward.
Wishing you and your family a great 2022. Sean
Thanks so much for all the great videos that I've thoroughly enjoyed watching. A very Merry Christmas to the Summers family!
I saw you think about hitting that seal with it crooked in the bore and I said out loud "No, take it out".🙂
My cousin ( a little guy) used to have a 3/4 Chevy that he pulled a too heavy goose neck with. He went through several clutches before he found one that would hold up. He got quite good at dropping out the tranny and transfer case by himself and putting them back in. :) He didn't have a garage or concrete floor either.
Sweet setup. You're making me want a square body. Miss the old Scottsdale we had on the farm. That old truck made it 300K before there wasn't enough truck left to rebuild.
Merry Christmas, Elizabeth and Steve! You are lucky to have Elizabeth there to help and make sure you are doing it right. :)
Thank you for sharing. Very nice setup. Merry Christmas Summers Family.🎄🛻⛄🎄
Merry Christmas to you and your whole family Steve, thanks for the videos.
Great build series for your channel and will be a great pickup for years to come
Merry Christmas to the Summers Family!!!! That Elizabeth was as cute as a button when she said she wanted a front wheel drive burnout!!! LOL!!!!!
A joyous holiday to you, Elizabeth and all who you love.
That's really slick, Steve. I'm definitely going to be doing this to my C10 once I can save up a bit for the upgrade. Shifting the transfer case right now is a real pain... Thanks for sharing and hope you and the family are well! - Tom Z
Well merry Christmas to you folks and the happiest of New Year’s thanks for sharing
Merry Christmas Summers family, including kids, dogs, birds, and squirrels, wherever they are.
Merry Christmas, Steve and Elizabeth and family!
Very good Information about Transfer cases.

Merry Christmas!! Thank you for all the videos.
Blessings and grace to you both at this time when we remember the birth of our Lord and Saviour JESUS.
This truck should be top notch soon… Merry Christmas! God bless!
Merry Christmas Steve and family, so about those burnouts :)
i had a scout with 2 wheel low and thought it would be nice to have it on my 1978 ford f250. i just ordered the kit for it. dangit, you twisted my arm.
Merry Christmas! The 205 is one of the stoutest transforcases built and one of the hardest things to handle.
How is the 203 different?
@@kevinhornbuckle the 203 and 208 are chain driven. Over time the chain will stretch and eventually they slip or break.
Thank you Steve and Elizabeth, happy Christmas to you all…
Keep up the good content always something to learn from wrenching welding or machine work
Merry Christmas, Steve. You sir, are the Master of Clean.
You made that look easy. I hope you and your family had a awesome Christmas, and I hope you all have a fantastic Newyear

Merry Christmas Elizabeth and Steve!
Merry Christmas! Was not expecting to see a video today so extra thanks!!!
Very well done and informative video. This is a future mod I will be doing, so seeing this helps a ton
Im working on my '75 K5 Blazer, adding some of these type upgrades and i have watched hundreds of videos researching. Your video is by far the best of them all! Mosty guys want to talk talk talk and not enough actual work so you can learn how to do these things! Congratulations on a great video!!!
I bet you were really grateful for Bobby's help! 😍
Fantastic detail Steve.......and merry xmas!....🍁
Merry Christmas! Very nice mod. Best to family and dogs.
Merry Christmas Steve! Best to you and the family!
Merry Christmas, Steve and Elizabeth
Cool modification. I have the electric shift and hate it. Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Steve & Family. I appreciate the look at that kit. I've considered doing something similar on my old Dodge. Not to run front only, without the rear, but to be able to use low range and leave the entire front axle system disengaged. But now, after the 52" stretch to the wheel base, front only pull with individual rear brakes (like the rock crawlers have) doesn't sound like a bad idea. It steers worse than an army truck.
I rebuilt that case back in ... well, a long time ago. I don't remember it having the steel plug. Hard rubber, I think. They can deteriorate and cause it to weep oil. Replacements did not come with the bearing kit. The big service jack I used had a transmission cradle available for it. I got it primarily for that job, and have used it on others since. I highly recommend getting or building one. It doesn't really make it any easier (at least in my experience) but it can make it a lot safer.
yeah he needs a proper transmission adaptor for his floor jack...you can buy them cheap nowadays..but all you need is a flat plate and some pipe to fit your shoe on jack ...and then you can chain it/or strap it securely....and make some brackets and different holding supports as you need ...for each use....SAFETY...it can fall off a small shoe in a microsecond and hurt you... when working alone it pays for the cost everytime you manhandle some transfer case or transmission...and you'll wonder why you never had it before ...i used mine to handle my Jeep fuel tank too...sure made it easy..i used some wood to keep it steady and straps ...what a simple job taking it off and down and then back up and on....half full of gas...
Merry Christmas Steve and Elizabeth!
Man I wish I had your patience when it comes to cleaning stuff, haha. I just love your videos, keep it up my friend cheers from Sweden :-)
Merry Christmas Steve and Elizabeth.
Merry Christmas Summer's family great video now Elizabeth we really want to see them front wheel drive burnouts when everything get done😉
I put manual locking hubs on my 1990 Ranger and one of the big benefits was 2 wheel drive low range, just don't lock the front hubs. Kind of like a granny gear.
Merry Christmas to you and your Family. Stay safe and enjoy the Holiday.
Really appreciate you showing how to modify the case and show how the shifting works. I'm looking at doing a 231/205 doubler for my jeep xj. Having this level of control is just badass. I'd have 1:1, 1.96:1, 2.72:1 and 5.33:1 to front and or rear wheels. Think I need this in my life and those controls are for sure the way to go.
Wow that shift kit works awesome 😎 great work 😎 Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and your family 👍 from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Merry Christmas Summers Family.
Looking good!
Merry Christmas Steve, to you and you family.
