    Is this the same for a 1997 lexus es 300 and did you order the new cylinder and key from rock auto ? Also did you need to do any sort of programming or was it just plug and play ?

    • @VitosFix

      Not sure. I got it from AutoZone as a set with the key. No programing for me.

    Did your new cylinder come with new set of keys? Are the keys codes as transponders? So did you program them in your vehicle on board? What did you do? I have a 2007 corrola i want to change the cylinder also that comes with new set of keys

    • @VitosFix

      Mine came with keys. I didn’t have to do anything else other than install it. Now, I had a different key for my ignition, then I did my trunk, but for the low price, it was ok with me.

    We still need to drill the pin if we have the key for the og cylinder?

    • @VitosFix
      @VitosFix  Рік тому +5

      In my scenario, I couldn’t get my key to turn the ignition at all, which is what releases the pin. If you can get yours to turn, you won’t need to drill it out.

    I have a 2000 Camry, cylinder locked up a couple weeks ago, Tow driver got it unstuck, it sticks a little.
    Toyota Service dept. told me $190 for the part and Three hours labor to install it. That looks like a 15 minute job if you have the right tools.
    Hmmmm, pay them almost $600 or do it myself for less than $100, which is the better deal?.....

    Probably a stupid question but i was quoted $700 to put in a new ignition and program the key because i have an immobilizer system. When i buy a new ignition, it has to have a chip too, right? And i would have to have it programmed? Is there a way to do that myself? The cylinder is already out, i just need a new one. I didnt realize this car had an immobilizer, i had a 99 and it didnt have one so i drilled jt lut and started it with a screwdriver but it wouldn't work with my 03, its been sitting for months now, and i HABE to get it running, im a single foster mom and i live 14 miles ro the closest store, and theres no public transportation. I need to do this as cheaply as possible. Any recommendations on where to get a cheap cylinder/key would be a huge blessing as well.

    • @VitosFix
      @VitosFix  7 місяців тому

      I’m not familiar with the immobilizer system. I would try buying the ignition system for that make and model, installing it, and going from there. The key will come with it. Let me know how it works. Either way, you will need the new ignition setup if there is any programming required after.

      Dude idk where you live but when mine did this, the pins kept the key from turning, my buddy helped get the cylinder out and then I took it to a locksmith who just removed the broke pins. Since I live where I'm not concerned at all about auto theft, the locksmith just removed all the pins except like two, just enough to keep the key from falling out when driving. Locksmith charged me 50 bucks, got my buddy a case of beer, and that was it. I kept my key, no new parts. Depending on your location and driving habits, it may be worth it to just remove those broken pins. Even if you left the car unlocked, if the transponder.chip isn't close by the car isn't starting, even if you can get the ignition to turn with a screwdriver. Just something to keep in mind. This happened to me in 2017, 7 years later and I still got my 03 accord, and not a single ignition problem since.

      @@jimmyce4530you have to start with a 1/16 bit and work it up to bigger one. Also, you have to put some power into it making sure it makes a clean thorough hole. Basically all the way to the top of the cylinder

    • @VitosFix

    • @michaelcorts1870
      @michaelcorts1870 Рік тому +3

      @@VitosFix Kinda. The problem is that, to insert the new cylinder, the key has to be turned to ACC. The back of the cylinder is then not in line with the ignition rod. I drilled out the old cylinder which left the ignition rod in the locked position.

    • @michaelcorts1870
      @michaelcorts1870 Рік тому +2

      The pin on the bottom of the cylinder has to be compressed for the cylinder to go in. But I can't turn the key to align with the rod while the pin is compressed.

    • @VitosFix

      So you can turn it with a Gerber or needle nose pliers so it’s in the position it needs to be in.
