From the first video I saw with you I knew you were the real deal. Honest. Your one of the few I love listening to. You and your other buddy with the perfect gun. Lol you do magic too! Like PM hmmm. I personally don't like him because of how positive he is about everything. Cept complaining bout having covid and not being able to go out. At that point I was done lol. Covid cost me a hair salon I spent 20 years building so it was rough on lots and many ppl died so that lack of sensitivity from PM really was the nail in the coffin. I create videos everyday across 3 main channels for 3 years and now I make 100$ a month off it so true how brutal it is. Trying to work out everyday and spend time with the daughter as well. You gotta get back on training at least a little. 30 mins in the morning to just keep you clear man it's so much better emotionally that way. The goals that never end are the most rewarding. That's why youtube is so intoxicating. Really sucks that they don't really give a cheap about us but where else can you reach and connect with so many ppl? You have to say I'm going to do this and it doesn't matter how long it takes. It's getting done lol Arnold Schwarzenegger was in the same high-school as my opa at the same time! No Plan B. They say no and I say YES! Anyways you are a breath of fresh air my friend. When I do break free from the debt and take the family on vacation after I plan on taking my favorite subscriber to Iceland and Indonesia (lol he's always been here keeping me company) need to fpv Iceland and check out snakes in Indonesia. So hopefully your down for a little meet up then!

Yes, very different from what you use to post. But you know what... Every time i watch your videos i feel like i want to know you better. Because you seem like how a really good friend should be. And with this videos not only I could know you better but at the same time got inspired to just do it and not give up. And now we know how hard it is to make it on social media (UA-cam included).
Thank you for opening up. Great video as always!

14:24 The sacrifice is the biggest thing. The drive to put in the time even when you have no traction, views or subscribers. It's giving up other things because you care about this the most. It sucks, but everyone I know with that attitude has eventually made something of it!

  • @RogerdelaHarpe

We hear you and know the situation you find yourself in. As professional wildlife and travel photographers we spend many days, weeks and months in the African bush shooting wildlife for our books and stories, sometimes with little to show for our efforts. But, as you say, you have to push through - keep committed and in the end, with a little luck, the results will be worth the sacrifices. And, many times they are.
Social life? What's that? Holidays? Same thing! But, yes, the creative freedom is just wonderful and, it sure beats sitting in an office working 9 to 5.
Keep going man - we really enjoy what you are doing!

It’s amazing how many creators struggle with work life balance, I think majority need to focus on a good online store and email marketing then focus on less more important content.
I know a photography creator with 1 mill + on instagram still living at home, while I have a tiny channel just under 10k and UA-cam is a second income, It could fully support me now but I dont think I’ll ever stop client work as client work is fun and create to much opportunities.
I think if your struggling with work life balance focus on these 3 things
    1. What makes the most money
    2. What do you enjoy the most
    3. What’s the most time efficient to make
All the other content is great, but does it support you and your passion!

Thank you so much for your straight honesty about the reality of content creation my friend! It's like everything in life, people just see (some only want to see) the tip of the iceberg and underestimate the amount of work which is hiding below the surface. Specially young people forget that content creation still requires work and effort like every other traditional job.
I picked my channel up again after our second daughter was born this year, when things were slightly managable again and I do my best to do my YT reps while the ladies are sleeping.
But like you I put my family first.
Every time I see a piece of content from you I just appreciate the hard work and effort you put on to the table. It's also good to know you have friends in the creator space, which go through the same pain like you and I hope you guys have an eye on each other to prevent burnout, since at least 3 of you in the EU north I know (Peter, Teppo and you) are all the head of your families.
Happy new year to you and your family and stay healthy my friend :)

This was very informative and helpful. Great talk! I think the key word here is obsession. You need to be obsessed with making videos. You need to love it so much that you would go insane if you don’t get to make videos. If you have that you will succeed sooner or later, because your obsession will make you consistent every week for years on end, and that is what you need to succeed.

You raised very important aspects of being a content creator. Burnout, constant pressure to be creative, sacrificing time that can be spent with family. In addition, this irrational fear of being judged, embarrassed by what you do. These are things that effectively stop and hold me back from starting my own channel. You give a lot of inspiration to act. To try to overcome issues.
My biggest problem is that I overthink a lot and compare myself to other creators with big accounts.
Thanks a lot and Happy New Year 🎉

Wow very heart felt. So crazy is from 15-30 powerlifting was my thing. In my early 20's men's leagues for basketball. I absolutely love BJJ TOO!
I also at a young age fell in love with motorcycles. I've had over 20 road bikes with 10s of thousands of miles of riding. One day 8 years ago that changed when a dear struck me while riding. It was a long recovery. I never rode again. It was hard not having something. 3 years ago I found my way to creating on youtube. It fills a void for me and makes me happy. I recently talked about similar things. How hard youtube is and keeping yourself happy as a creator. Thanks for your story! Thanks for not giving up. I agree that it all goes back to the box one day. For me building this gives me so much joy. That doesn’t mean that it’s always easy and it comes with a lot of sacrifices. At least for me. But I’m willing to make those in order achieve my goals here.
But as I said in the video I’m not willing to compromise on the time with my kids. That’s why working evenings, early morning is what I do a lot.

Also landscape photography its more hard than product or with models because nobody pays you for do the work. You have to do it still it happen. Thank you mate. Constance is the key.

Yea earning full time living from landscape is tricky. Because as you said you’re not in advertising. People will buy your art but then you need to find people who love your work. I think starting on social media is really smart ☺️ I wish you best of luck in 2024 for my friend 🥂

Appreciate you sharing, and super thankful for all the sacrifice throughout the years.
Small channel here, and it really can be awkward to verbalize how you feel or talk about where you want to go on YT, with others, at the start. There's often a feeling of momentum and growth that you feel as the creator, the wheels are turning, but that hasn't yet translated to views/numbers on paper. And if you're speaking to someone who hasn't given it a real try over several years, they often have no grasp of what you're talking about.

This is an excellent video. You really capture the frustration and intensity that can come from trying to create UA-cam videos on a regular basis. I have been working full time for the past two years. As a result, my channel uploads have dropped off significantly. I just looked at my channel a couple days ago and realized that it's been about a year since my last video. Honestly, that blew me away. The year flew by so fast that I didn't even notice. That being said, I still have acquired a lot of new filmmaking devices over the past two years. So, I have a lot of potential content I can still create. At the same time, I have a fellow filmmaking friend, who's been editing feature films for 20+ years, that I am working with to create new films, etc. So, while I am working, I am still trying to create.
As a traditional artist for most of my life, the need to create is literally in my blood. I cannot live life happily without being able to create. And since Star Wars, my desire to create turned to filmmaking. I was a visual effects artist for over 16 years, and I worked on 40 feature films, 10 television shows, etc. I just met with my friend/filmmaking colleague today, and we're both excited about the films/projects we are planning. Working full time, I find my free time on the weekends to be the time I have to pursue these projects. Anyway, thank you for your channel. Your content is always inspiring. If nothing else, you keep my creative juices flowing. I hope you and your family have a Happy New Year and a fabulous 2024.

This was a good video! I have been doing YT for little less than 3 years and I have seen views declining. You hear this talk about how you have to re-invent yourself and your content. People are into new things and fresh stuff. You know, like Who remembers the hot tv series from 3 years or 10 years ago, it needs to be fresh so people are into it even if the 10 year old show was better than the stuff that is hot at the moment. Anyhow, I have been trying to re-invent my content and not keep doing the same stuff. And it is really Hard within your limited niche.

If you have decided to upload a video every week, you will probably have to make videos when you feel great. I quickly managed to get past the negative comments, but I didn't have enough financial runway to support my content creation (I couldn't make ends meet while making content). Unfortunately, I never managed to secure any sponsors. It's disheartening to see that I managed to get 200k subscribers, knowing that if I return to making videos, my financial situation will gradually deteriorate. I haven't yet been able to figure out a sustainable path forward.

Thanks for sharing this awesome video. Watched the entire thing. I'm struggling quite a bit as well with the mental part of it.
I think the biggest problem is comparing myself to previous performance. Which is super toxic. Also taking the time to sit down and finish up stuff is tough, not getting enough focus when having 912 other platforms and medias trying to grow. The theoretical solution should be to isolate what things are most important and just focus on them to have enough time. And appreciate the little things and not comparing to previous performance.
Getting 1000 views is sick, not bad. Before I got 100 views in 1 week and was amazed. Now I'm not. Lol. But does it really matter? Idk. It's tough! Keep it up buddy. Ur awesome. Happy new years/gott nytt år :) ❤
