I'm Thai. I came from a poor family, and I used to fight as a kid to get money for my family. I feel so proud of myself that I can put foods on my family's table 🤟 "We fight to live" like you said. Thanks you so much for talking about Muay Thai, Jimmy!
Thats awesome! Im American and started training Muay Thai when I was 11. Im 18 now and got back into it and can hopefully win my first match. Respect to you and your family!
There's a mentality to martial arts that a lot of people don't understand until they do it. Particularly the sparring side. The amount of discipline and respect you need to have along with a kind of mixture of confidence and humility makes combat sports very unique. I've done martial arts on and off since I was little. In the last few years I stepped back onto those mats my physical and mental wellbeing is so much better. I do better at my job. I'm focused, disciplined and completely un-phased by conflict or politics at work which gets noticed in a good way. Highly recommend martial arts to anyone that feels lost, self critical or anxious. Doesn't have to be Muay Thai, could be kickboxing, TKD, karate. Just needs to be in a proper martial arts gym or dojo, with an experienced instructor.
I started off boxing and then transitioned to an adapted form of karate, martial arts in any regard is a beautiful thing, not just because of the confidence it gives you, but the outlet and the brotherhood of it, I’m in college and haven’t been to a gym in a few months which has really sucked because I love training, but at the gym we have an area with matted floors a punching bag and a few pads, and everyone I meet who trains, no matter who, there’s always a level of respect and brotherhood between martial artists it’s truly amazing
An absolute pleasure being a part of this diligent documentary bro! Being here in Thailand watching this while living everything you're talking about, hits fucking different! I'd say to any man or woman who is healthy enough to do so, take the dive and watch yourself evolve on this insane adventure and potentially new lifestyle!
This is what true personal improvement means. And I am not talking about muay thai. I am talking about Jimmy. Production value for the show has gone up, quality has gone up. Interesting subjects with great research and execution. Also he looks healthier and in better shape. If you are reading this congratulations sir. Legit motivating
I've been training Muay Thai for two years. It's a fascinating skill and sport. Has taught me a lot (confidence, patience, humility) that I've carried over into other parts of my life. Always a fun workout and challenge, especially the sparring.
Making a video about a topic is one thing, but actually going out and experiencing it is next level! ... A crazy world, but you gave a really great insight. Some super interesting stuff! Amazing work once again Jimmy!
I am glad you explained the reason the kids fight. They often maintain not just their family but a whole village. While I prefer they don't have to fight, I greatly respect these kids who take up this responsibility and often have to pay for the consequences for the rest of their lives.
Glad to see you taking up the art! it really is amazing, it can be brutal and primal and like Vinny said in your video someone like Saenchai can elevate it to a thing of beauty. I hope you stick with it, and if you ever come back to Bangkok I would love to take you around to some of the more local fight venues on the outskirts of the city.
The muay thai community is like no other too. I've been to a lot of boxing gyms where itseall ego. It's the opposite in muay thai. They treat each other with immense respect.
I'd say the *most* brutal sport is probably Lethwei (from Myanmar/Burma: basically Muay Thai + headbutts...) but Muay Thai is a great art to learn, whether for self-defence, fitness or cultural interest. Train hard, stay strong and good luck on your martial arts journey. I'm 40 and have been doing martial arts most of my adult life, so I can tell you that you'll have good times, bad times, and learn things about yourself and other people that you'd never know otherwise.
I’m glad to see and hear that your eyes are open! 🙏 It’s a beautiful and honorable martial ART! We in the west are spoiled like you say, and we have no right to judge people that fight or let their children fight. I’m an old fighter (BJJ,boxing, mma and Muay Thai) from Sweden and I would have let my daughter fight but she was never interested so she don’t have to. But it’s really character building to learn to fight/defend yourself at an early age if possible because everything else in life don’t become a big struggle in comparison. Anyway, glad to see you’re positive to this! Chok Dee Krap
Bro I started Muay Thai about 3 years ago for fitness and self defense reasons, now I'm aiming to make MMA into my career! It get's crazy addictive when you get going! we'd LOVE to see more of your MT training for SURE!!!
That end quote about emotions being there wether they're right or not are still there really opened my eyes to how I ignorant I can be to other people's feelings. Great way to explain how even fighting can be a form of expression, especially to people like myself who aren't a part of that circle.
I dont know if its down to muay thia, or just the respect culture, but i have spent a lot of time in Thailand ( mostly small cities or towns) and i have very rarely seen a bar fight. ( and most of the ones i did see were between falangs or started by a falang ) ( falang/farang means foriegner)
I’m a wrestler and this videos intro is true I also do jujitsu and people get hurt all the time I personally have suffered from a broken rib and 3 concussions but I really enjoy the sport and went on to win state
Awesome Video Mate, Did start training with 13 with Tae-Kwon-Do and switched with 17 to Kick Boxing and MMA. It’s just a great sport. Was fun to watch this vid, have to go as well one day to Thailand to train there but well, I am in the 40s now, so its going to be for sure a hustle 😂 Keep up the great work, cheers
Muay Thai is crazy, no doubt. But it pales in comparison to Lethwei. The sparks really fly when high level practitioners of the two sports clash. Great video and perspective too!
I am thai and i think "Muay thai" is the civilization of human kinds ,we have just developed ,set the rule and propagated to all of you, not just only thais who could be a champion ,but all of you can be. And of course all of martial arts are beatiful ,you can apply it for making money, protect yourself, your family, your beloved one.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Mui Thai is still brutal and one of the most dangerous martial arts, despite despite all it's rules it trains you to use your ever sigke limbs as weapons to strike with kick, punches, knees, elbows and and execute basic kicks and throws,We all know that mui Thai is very popular martial art amongst adults, and that is very useful in mardern mixed martial arts, but Mui Thai is generally considered as one of the most avressive and denferous martial arts, because it involves a lot of close range combat, and gas no defensive eqipments,Frequent injuries is one of is one of mui Thais Disadvantages, and because those technique involves kicks and arm punches practiconers are more suscitable if forced to the ground,Mui Thai also doesn't use the blobbling and webbing technique we frequently see in other style like traditional boxing.
As a Thai, MUAY Thai teach fighters the GENTLEMEN/WOMEN CODES too. It is the core spirit of the fighting. Respect your teachers, respect your parents and respect your opponents. That is why you never see Muay Thai fighters jump on the fallen opponents to finish them. However, I am quite wondering, in the “gripping” situation when your kidnappers grap you from behind how can you fight them with MUAY Thai. You can throw them with Judo or attack their ribs with Tae Kwan Do. But my MUAY THAI? Can’t imagine how.
Samart Somrak (Olympic Gold Medalist same weight as Floyd) Sanchai and LertSila are the true showcase of MT martial art. How to leverage and turn weakness to strength. This kind of reminds me of a short documentary I saw about traditional wrestling in India. They also had young children starting to practice as a way to make their families an income. However, they weren't putting each other thru as much physical damage.
I trained in martial Arts for 9 years and trained hard but when I went to Thailand to work and trained in Muay Thai it was brutal ok I was 50 but it was so painful I had to give it up because I was unable to go to work the next day
