I'm in the film Graffiti Wars, chosen by Robbo to speak for the grassroots old school graffiti community to Channel 4 and thus the public, hence I appear at 8.55 in the above film. The goldfish piece appears to predict the date and manner of Robbo's death, it's about to hit it's head and the term for a victim of an April Fool is a fish. I know the rabbit hole very well and actually have spent 14 years mapping it out in a soon to be released book.
I think it would be important to mention Psycho City here. This was an area in San Francisco where some factory owners had given permission to some Graffiti artists to paint on their walls on the outside of the factories. There were hundreds of layers of paint on these walls and where a lot of the art was developed past just writing one's name on a wall. Because the factory owners were fine with it, it was considered a legal spot, until authorities got involved. Long story short, it became illegal to paint there even with permission, and then graffiti kinda exploded from there on to illegal vandalism.

When I was in Portugal I was amazed at all of the beautiful graffiti. It’s a very artistic country that’s mixed in with the ancient look of the country. Lisbon is ranked in like the top 5 most beautiful cities in the world. I was at a bar on a rooftop at night and I literally got goosebumps at the view. The ocean just makes it feel and look 10x more beautiful. That breeze and the smell is electric, if I were to get married I would try to get married in Portugal. I was born there but left at a very young age and went back 3 times. The last time I went about 3 years ago I was kind of upset how it turned into a huge tourist spot but I understand why it is a hot spot for tourists in Europe. The beaches, food, weather, people and the laid back atmosphere is just sooo relaxing. My dream is to retire in Lisbon and die there. If you’ve been there you know what I’m talking about, the whole city is like a big piece of art! I just wish it had a better economy and more jobs for people. I noticed how over worked people are and they’re under paid. A lot of people leave the country because of this, it’s very hard to progress in countries like this.
You're literally rumbling about your infatuation with Lisbon in the comment section of a video about an unrelated subject. People like you are one of the reasons why Lisbon has become such a touristic, generic capital, soulless city.
That is why it is important to try to clarify everything during life. We only become aware of what we had when we lose it. But then it is too late to realize that everything was transitory. Let's use the time of life to get along, to talk to each other and to solve problems between us. R.I.P.
Super interesting story!!! It's a shame when someone with such a bright future, like Robbo, has an unfortunate accident that takes it all away. It would have been such a better story if Robbo was able to share the same space as Banksy till present. I could only imagine the amazing art their rivalry would have continued to produce. RIP to one of the GOATs
For sure! I was hoping he'd make it, and pop on out of his coma dual-spray cans a-blazing, sticking only to 'studio-based' created artwork from then on out...fued long over and him coming out the KING frfr, obviously cause of his name, but to having survived the coma (like Beatrice Kiddo, or some shite lol) a true G-move! Lmao! Bygones left as bygones, both to survive another day and move on, going down further in history selling more art! All-in-all...a 'happy ending' for all parties involved! (If...only THEY'D start allowing me to write ACTUAL LIFE. If...only...Lol!)
Not bad though the real difference between street art and graffiti is that street art is done with permission graffiti is the pure form and illegal murals are part of both though also going over a piece is called buffing it's ok to put a throw over a hand and a piece over a throw but not the same or a lower form over a more elaborate one sometimes even just an x is put over but it means war banksy is hated because he only uses stencils and doesn't show all the forms that other writers need to learn plus he's allowed to do them usually so hes a street artist not a graffiti writer and him representing our culture in the mainstream when he's really not part of it is the main issue
Watch out with calling Banksy a graffiti artist around some of the elitists (actual) graffiti artists tho, what he does is considered street art since he uses stencils for pretty much everything he does, graffiti artists use stencils sometimes for stuff like patterns on a background for example but some get very precious about this stuff. Whatever you wanna call him he's an artist all the same whether you like him or not he has his talent and that's pretty much undeniable. That said graffiti is a very strange phenomenon where there's a lot of comradery among most of the "true artists", the top dogs, but as you go down the ladder the hostility escalates rather quickly... the shitter the artist the more aggressive and gang-like, Toys they call em and they are what give this amazing art a bad name. Great vid as always ❤
@@wilfordbrimley6938 I call em elitists because they are and I say (actual) because as I said these elitists don't consider Banksy is not a graffiti artist, he started as one but he was aggressively average at best. Great designer, shit with a can. So yeah the purists or elitists do not consider them an actual graffiti artist like they consider themselves, elitist are gatekeepers and a lot of those elitists are (actual) artists in the sense that they bomb stuff with shitty tags and even vandalize historical landmarks, doesn't make em good but they are still elitists and the (actual) is obviously a mockery towards those kinda Toys. And who cares if he covered it when what I'm saying is to watch out, as he well put there's a lot of violence and rivalry turned to enmity because I've watched people get fucked up over stuff like that with other much smaller and irrelevant artists because for many considering Banksy a part of the graffiti world a is a big insult, and I cannot fault em even tho I don't share the sentiment, and then I pointed out the hypocrisy of many (actual) graffiti artists using stencils sometimes and other tools for their pieces. 2. Making comments with bullet points, specially when it's just for 2 things and the 2nd point is not only idiotic but also not even a point to begin with... is actually being a tool, Wilford.
More insight into the graffiti world. Parkour people, skater people, breakdance people, graffiti people. It's interesting how we're connected in a way. 'Urban hobbies' kinda thing
Banksy stole his entire style and idea from Blek Le Rat. complete double standard, people drool over stolen work then shit on 99% of writers. Banksy is trash, I know writers with infinite more style and actual artistic skill opposed to a racked spray stencil.
the irony of graffiti artists screeching about what is or isnt art... and on top of the gatekeeping, to question someones motives or credibility while actively trying to sell out is astonishing to me. "how dare you tag a tag you dont own! thats disrespect!" -- if only self awareness was sold in an aerosol can.
@@sinista.productions an architect would argue that the wall itself is a piece of work. the city that built the wall would claim that their clean city is a piece of work. id argue that whoever thinks they have the right to spray anything is a piece of work.
You should cite the Graffiti wars video that contains all of this information and much more depth. It is really interesting and is where many of your images and snapshots are from if I am not mistaken. Furthermore it is interesting that you are covering a topic about stolen material in the art world and not citing your source.
graffiti always meant writing with style and eventually cartoons characters were also added to the art. stickers and stencil """artists""" were never and never will be part of this urban culture same reason you only write on public propriety. not private walls or shops. same reason a illegal spot will always be better than any legal and/or paid spot.
Credit where credit's due, Baksy did the right thing. Even if it took him awhile. I don't have much love for Banksy; and it's clear that Robbo was the real OG, but, at least he was man enough to put the pettiness behind him.
A friend of mine died from this, he was a tagger, and one day he moved to Australia with his fiance. Two days after that he fell to his death trying to tag under a bridge, he was a nice guy and I miss him, but it could have been easily avoided. I know people like to challenge themselves and push themselves, and when you attention sensation seeking to that, that's when things get dangerous.
I still love your work Jimmy. It's been many months since I last watched one of your videos. You're kind of taking the tragic vibe lately eh? Also, sadly, I'm not sure how many more I can watch, you've tripled your ads, it's tedious.
Appreciate this man as a creator. Shows some of the most basic yet surprisingly lacking on this platform. Of basic human etiquette. Mentions his death and ends the video subtly. No jumping into a glory hole basking in "for the family the fans" just trying to appear amazing for credibility. Amazing work and social studies. I cant stop watching.
Funny how money changes people's morals. If I spray paint some stencil on ur wall, you will be pissed. But if banky does it, u will try sell it. See how money corrupts?

The last time I went about 3 years ago I was kind of upset how it turned into a huge tourist spot but I understand why it is a hot spot for tourists in Europe. The beaches, food, weather, people and the laid back atmosphere is just sooo relaxing. My dream is to retire in Lisbon and die there. If you’ve been there you know what I’m talking about, the whole city is like a big piece of art! I just wish it had a better economy and more jobs for people. I noticed how over worked people are and they’re under paid. A lot of people leave the country because of this, it’s very hard to progress in countries like this.
You went on a package holiday to the Algarve - Stop being such a drama queen!
tldr
I will not get tired of saying it, banksy is not grafitti, it is street art, it is different, thank you for saying it
Banksy isn’t a graff artist he’s a good artist boy
I'd been wondering where you were and checked and the latest video had been 3 weeks ago, then bam 3 out of nowhere smashing it.
Thank you so much for the vids love your work you inspire me
to do what lol
What a story, really glad i've come across your videos recently. You're doing such a great job!
Well said
sick video jimmy, and on my fav subject too. BIG UP
fresh cut my guy
🔥
Read about this feud about 10 years ago, but didnt know of Robbos passing. RIP.
I think there is a movie about all of this but I can't think of which movie it is.
@@bnowb its called graffiti wars
@@pl0mp648 thanks yo
Didn´t know this story, interesting and well told!
..that was awesome bro ..thank you for the upload from New Zealand
Ya basically copied that old documentary about this..........
Which documentary it was
grafitti wars its on youtube
Glad you mentioned Cornbread from Philly as he is the forefather, but lets not forget Eternity from Sydney, Australia who started in 1932
lol na
I'm glad someone does mini docs on subjects like these, thanks for the content dude!
i flagged the channel
"G Davis is innocent" graffiti from the 70s is still about as far as I know in Limehouse, and probably elsewhwere. RIP Robbo
It is hard to ignore the fact that the guy was doing well and then he had a fall.
So glad I got a shot of a Robbo piece further along the canal & captured a bit of history. Rip King Robbo
isn’t it ironic that it was ROBbo vs BANKsy
The whole thing is a prank made up by banksy, my theory is they are both the same person.
@@corneliousism But then how did Robbo die while Banksy's still alive?
@@corneliousism dumbest theory i've heard yet
@@toolbox6228 lol maybe he reincarnated as a graffiti ghost and instead of leaving ectoplasm they leave pure spray paint
@@Rebel_riot151 Omg 😱
never would i have thought a youtuber that has nothing in common with graff make a video this good on it. thank you man
banksy is NOT graffiti!
Condoleances to family and friends, R.I.P. to one of my hero.
Writers Should Unite
Awesome video dude, your storytelling is excellent. I didnt know this story, watched every second with focus and even get emotional by the end.
What a story. Some of the graffiti from both artists were really quite interesting and quite creative
There's a KFC at the pyramids already
TBH I thought the Banksy wallpaper over Robbo piece made both so much better. They complimented each over so well
Team robbo 🙌
Brilliant. Wow, I had a lot of respect for Banksy before I WATCHED THIS. That first move was fakt up.
1. Putting "elitist (actual)" makes you sound like just as big of a tool
2. Jimmy covered that. ffs 🤦♂️
Banksy is an artist, but definetly not a writer.
@@toolbox6228 Yeah I think it's safe to say that's a fact
More insight into the graffiti world. Parkour people, skater people, breakdance people, graffiti people. It's interesting how we're connected in a way. 'Urban hobbies' kinda thing
Banksy stole his entire style and idea from Blek Le Rat. complete double standard, people drool over stolen work then shit on 99% of writers. Banksy is trash, I know writers with infinite more style and actual artistic skill opposed to a racked spray stencil.
Punk bands like Crass were using stencils to put up their logos and slogans in the 70's, long before Blek Le Rat
It Started in NYC & Philly. & Went Around the World!!! Long before Social Media.

I love these videos because things that I don’t know from over here it can show over UA-cam and documentaries I love them thank yoi
Awesome to see that style wars clip! Not enough people know about that hidden gem of a documentary 🤙🏾
the irony of graffiti artists screeching about what is or isnt art... and on top of the gatekeeping, to question someones motives or credibility while actively trying to sell out is astonishing to me. "how dare you tag a tag you dont own! thats disrespect!" -- if only self awareness was sold in an aerosol can.
“How dare you cover over someone’s piece of work without permission” they say, after spraying something on a wall they don’t own, without permission.
@@sinista.productions an architect would argue that the wall itself is a piece of work. the city that built the wall would claim that their clean city is a piece of work. id argue that whoever thinks they have the right to spray anything is a piece of work.
Loving the new consistency
He uploads a few vids per few weeks
Soooo banksy killed robbo?
What no
Humanity, and kindness takes a win, the world takes a loss, on a great Artist. Rest in Peace King Robbo
💀
🤡🤡
*BANKSY KILLED HIM*
Robin Gunningham kept Banksy but killed off King Robbo….
You should cite the Graffiti wars video that contains all of this information and much more depth. It is really interesting and is where many of your images and snapshots are from if I am not mistaken. Furthermore it is interesting that you are covering a topic about stolen material in the art world and not citing your source.
Banksy is just an artist he's not a graffiti artist
graffiti always meant writing with style and eventually cartoons characters were also added to the art. stickers and stencil """artists""" were never and never will be part of this urban culture
same reason you only write on public propriety. not private walls or shops. same reason a illegal spot will always be better than any legal and/or paid spot.
[ RIP] King Robbo. & All Graffiti & Street Artists who passed away.🙏
Honestly whenever anyone revolutionizes any for art form people start dividing. It’s annoying that people can’t appreciate another creative
cuz its trash
thank you so much for this video i have been very curious about graffiti culture!
You are definitely going to spoil us with all this content in one week
This one the greatest art feuds in modern history

I still love your work Jimmy. It's been many months since I last watched one of your videos. You're kind of taking the tragic vibe lately eh? Also, sadly, I'm not sure how many more I can watch, you've tripled your ads, it's tedious.
This was really interesting story, great work Jimmy!
Bro your going to pop off one day but these uploads are banger after bangers after bangers
This is basically the SIMPSONS DID IT SIMPSONS DID IT SIMPSONS DID IT parody in real life.
Thank you for telling em bro
Such a sad story of someone at the start of mainstream success. The flame icon was used in the Blue Lines artworks.
About 20 minutes ago I saw a rip robbo tag by a popular local writer in my area called risk act
weeping.
it is quite touching the final mural still stands.
Funny how money changes people's morals. If I spray paint some stencil on ur wall, you will be pissed. But if banky does it, u will try sell it. See how money corrupts?
