Mark Mothersbaugh's Synth Collection
Вставка

- The bright green, circular building of Mutato Muzika in Los Angeles is easy to spot when cruising down Sunset Boulevard. But most people might not realize it contains the creative hub of Mark Mothersbaugh, a founding member of DEVO turned award-winning Hollywood composer. Famous for his use of the synthesizer, Mothersbaugh has accumulated a vast collection over the years. We had the chance to check out a small selection of Mothersbaugh synths and spent some time talking about the future of music with the prolific artist.

1:47 "We smell sausage" = "Jesus loves you" in reverse. This could only come from the most creative and brilliant minds of electronic music. He's very modest and gracious about the amount of effort and time it probably took him to find this gem and share it with the rest of us mutants.
The guys a genius, absolute legend.
Mark is such a legend. And his studio is like a museum of synthesizers.
"When I was first writing music was in the late 60s. I was looking for instruments that made sounds that were more relevant to our culture, that were the things that sounded like what I heard on the news. My name is Mark Mothersbaugh, but everyone calls me Mark"
it's no wonder their music was waaaaay ahead of their time.
holy Damn. what an underrated band. 😮
Mark is so fuckin' bizarre, and I love him for it.
Genius confirmed.
I could have never imagined that the creative force of DEVO could be sich a sweet man!
The hello instrument from the “I smell Sausage” part is a Kalideoloop by Critter and Guitari. You can find them new for cheap on their website.
Mark is a legend and genius. As a kid listening to Devo you just took the music for granted but as an adult, I realize Devo was so way ahead of their time. I get upset when someone only knows them for "Whip It" There is so much to this band that goes way beyond their pop hit. They had brass balls for going against the grain of everything at the time. Love them or hate them they left a huge dent in music history with zero imitators.
the Holy Grail of all modern music, everybody has copied Something from Devo, as I'm sure they have from others, but this guy right here is a treasure...
Impossible not to like Mark. An artistic creative mind to the max.
I really love this guy!
he just seems so intelligent and witty but like goofy and friendly too. I can't believe that sausage part
A brilliant man! We are lucky to have him!
Bob Moog giving you a memorymoog? yeah, I can see where that would be kinda cool.
Bob moog is so funny
Happy 70th Birthday, Mark Mothersbaugh!
This man is the reason why I fell in love with Synthesizers and experimenting.
I love creating new and interesting sounds with my equipment.
I really want to find out how he does the rugrats buh buh noise.
Me too! Veeeeery much!
Always figures he was just playing a sample of his own voice
One of us should contact him...
Same.
I want the sample.
Yes, we need him to make a site similar to something like Beepbox or onlinesequencer but with the Rugrats soundfont.
Should be in Hall of Fame..period!!
Mark Mothersbaugh is the coolest guy ever!
He's amazing.
We smell sausage!
This makes me so happy, I can't even tell you.
DEVO's music is cutting edge and way ahead of its time! One only has to listen to there 3 biggest selling albums which are Freedom of Choice, New Trads and Oh No its Devo to hear how groundbreaking & technologically advanced they are!
No other band made music like DEVO! They are as musically important and influential as Kraftwerk! Culturally too as far as thought provoking lyrics goes! The lyrics and video clip for 'Beautiful World' even has relevance today with COVID 19 and the Black Lives Matter riots in 2020!
Disappointed, I wanted this video to last 3 or more hours! :(
Me, too.
...& teach us about the individual Synthesizers! :[
Earthquaker devices has a show us your junk video with him that’s 12 minutes
Amazing, mark and his brother are both very talented and inspiring individuals.
I used to take the bus to work just a few blocks west from there and everyday I wondered who was in there .... this was back around 2011.
always loved devo but never knew what mark was like as a person!
Great!!! DEVO fan from Texas!
I fucking love this dude
Coolest guy on the planet!
Actually the coolest guy is Stewart Copeland, Mark is a close second :)
Who is Stewart Copeland? I have never heard of him?!
I love your artistic mind mark!
Very cool...thanks.
amazing
Gotta love Mark Mothersbaugh!
I really love music a lot
I pursued an electronic music career in the 1980s and enjoy seeing Mark play around with vintage instruments. I'm now a Christian missionary but agree many of the backward masking claims were bogus.
Cool, thanks.
Thanks for the scores!!! #RegularShow
Awesome! I want one of those synths just one!
And good luck with that, they are probably defended by Robots with laser weapons like in that movie I Robot...
Holy fucking shit I haven't laughed as hard as I did at "We smell, Sausage > Jesus loves you" in quite a long time
But what was that synth Booji Boy had with him at the beginning intro to the Secret Agent Man video?
Such a awesome person!
"i wish I was 18 so I could Take advantage of all the technology" Hit me up, man with expensive Studio, im 17 and poor as fuck
Linus Behrend. Stop wishing bro' you're young with every opportunity in front of you. Find a local studio with this type equipment then volunteer to sweep floors, make coffee, whatever. Hang around the engineers and equipment, ask questions, then tinker around. Go man! Go! It's all you!
Solowolf youre amazing thank you for the motivation, im 18 now and imma start to work at a radio station in the summer. its not a studio but its something.
Linus Behrend That's what I'm talking about man!! Linus we all look forward to your UA-cam videos displaying your own music!
Solowolf i mean they exist already

Right on! 👾 We are back. And, well....👾
way way too short. More footage please, more synth details. Wow - thanks!!!
Mark?! I love this guy
In bands to help pay their way through college? You could do that?
The "we smell sausage" trick is sheer genius.
'When the aliens come back and wanna see what they started all those years ago....' you gotta love him!
Wish I could meet Mothersbaugh! I did meet Randy Rhoades twice via Chuck Flanagan who created the guitar instrumental for Don Henley's song Dirty Laundry back in the day... Chuck Flanagan is on UA-cam Omni Speaker Cabinets for electric guitar!!!

this guy is making the soundtrack for Thor: Ragnarok, which is directed by Taika Waitit... it's a match made in heaven!
wizzzer1337 Thor Ragnarok is terrible.
In the wrong way.
GreenHoleSun Not really. It's the best Thor movie although not one of the best MCU movies.
I keep wanting to believe that the stained-wood piano at the back of the control center is a Yamaha GS1 synthesizer.
I actually tried the "We smell, sausage" thing. It doesn't QUITE work.
He is so cooool u.u I like him a lot
Christian synth!!!! Wonderful
Did he say Gerry with a hard 'G' like Gary at 1:28? I've never heard that for Gerry C or any Gerald for that matter.
Please make a video telling about your experiences with T.O.N.T.O.
So this is the same guy that made the ost for the cartoon series rugrats? No way!
This dude is awesome 🤘🤘🤘 going to write a tune and sample me saying sausages in it 🤘🤘🤘
He's a real life Gyro Gearloose.
Huzzah! A man of quality!
Do you like the roland Juno-60?
Damn the time and gravity. we were all in our prime back in the 80s. best years of this country in every way not just music.
Wish I had his life
What IS that box(1:48) that he records "We Smell Sausage" on? Is that an actual thing, or is that something he conjured and built?
Please don’t put an age limit on good music, you are good music in your soul. Check out Alexander robotnic if you get down.
