Trust, I WISH I liked this song! I will check out the rest of the track like ya'll are suggesting I felt if we were 3+ minutes in already we were gonna get more of the same. I'll finish the song and give an update.
Anyway I knew I was gonna get killed for posting this lol. Considered deleting it, but nah. Ima hold the L. I'll try "One" next!
Appreciate it. Might also help you appreciate the lyrics more if you listen through the lens of it being sung from the perspective of drugs, speaking to the addict they occupy.
Hey man, all good. You have your taste and it is always nice to see you react. Fun fact, this song is the theme song for the Original Doom game first level. They didn't have as much anti-pirate shit back then and they got away with using this in the game :)
Genuinely I think the track works better with the lead in from Battery like the album is placed, some songs are meant to be played in order
One is their best song imo 🔥
You're not wrong but to not be feeling it. It's a classic but 80s thrash is pretty white sounding compared to metal/hard rock that came later. I do recommend giving the back half a listen though. Its a good representation of why people love old Metallica.
It’s about drug addiction. Give One by Metallica a try.
Damn he cut it off before the solo, thats crazy. He gotta do One, but it starts off slow. He gotta stick with it. The solo in One is insane.
Yes, but it have to be the official "one", which includes parts/snippets of a movie. That's a really good one.
Yeah One is better
@@Hey.Joe. yea, I hope he does that.
Yeah, The music Video version is very story driven and works wonderfully.
“Chop your breakfast on a mirror”. Don’t think you realized the implication of the song.
Just FYI the whole rest of the song that you didn't listen to is a giant build up to a super melodic harmonized solo that leads into a shred solo, and that's arguably the best part of the song.
Shouldn’t have to wait that long for a song to get good
@@TheTwerkMaster Good job the song is great from the beginning then...
@@TheTwerkMasterit’s good from the first beat, but man do kids these days have no attention span…
@@TheTwerkMaster the song's that great throughout. I doubt you could listen to Dream Theater 😂
@@reactionviewerEh, I think it's just a bit too... Soft? Maybe not the word, but it feels like more bands have popped up that fill a similar niche as Metallica did in the 80s, but are more intense to listen to.
That said, I do love 'For Whom The Bell Tolls'
Naaaaaaa youuu definitely took an L on this one. You completely missed the rest of this song. Its a masterpiece
Kind of interesting perspective because I think most Metallica fans would consider Enter Sandman to be more of a commercialized metal while Master of Puppets is their earlier and more raw of a sound where they're shredding and going for multiple really sick transitions with a deep meaning behind it.
But I get what you mean, the first time I've heard the song I remember not vibing with it much, it felt dragged out. Eventually it became my forever playlist song. The overall meaning behind it is really powerful, where both the lyrics and the instruments work together to paint a picture of addiction mocking the person, them giving-in and eventually having to face the reality once the high wears off, realizing that if they can't control their addiction it will end up killing them. I'd call it a masterpiece, but sometimes it's hard to get/feel/connect with a piece of art and that's ok.
Enter Sandman is definitely the more commercial/pop metal song, whereas Master of Puppets is more what metal fans love, the long, intricate, technical instrumentals. And this may be where Rob just doesn't like metal music as much as other genres (WHICH IS TOTALLY FINE! NOT EVERYTHING IS FOR EVERYONE!)
I hope he sees your comment because it is unbelievably accurate.
Agreed.
Man spot on bro. It is totally fine for sure! The black album may be the one album for him. Ride the lighting tho, sheesh, greatness
Most accurate comment I’ve seen in a while!
Nah bro. You need to come back, relisten, and get through all of it and lysten to the lyrics. Songs today are all "Me me me", Metallica wrote a song from the perspective of a drug. It has time signature changes, a frantic pounding riff, thats meant to evoke the chaoticness of seeking for your fix. Then the melancholic bliss of getting it, followed by the realisation of the damage youre doing to yourself and then the hook coming back because you need your fix again. This isnt a radio play song. Enter Sandman is a tik tok video compared to Master of Puppets movie or mini series.
Fukn well said bro!!!
Just because it's well written and has a unique angle doesn't just make it a good song. The first 4-5 minutes are such a slug to get through and unenjoyable lol. The only good part is the last 1/3rd of the song with it transitioning to the solos and the solos themselves.
You were not ready for this.
I'm disappointed that you quit before getting to the interlude. It's one of the sickest change ups ever. And you can't criticize the lyrics if you didn't get far enough to understand what they are about.
One thing about Metallica, is they have incredible transitions and surprises. This song has an excellent one near the end of the song. I hate that you missed it.
4.5🤦🏽♂️
Dude, i'm totally fine if you listen and don't like it. But you don't even finish the song. If you're not ok to record, choose another day, seems like you are unwilling
What a condescending ahh comment lmao
This is a wild take. Master of Puppets is a certified classic. It’s also the first metal recording to be preserved in the national recording industry. These guys were in their early 20s writing absolute bangers.
He's into groove. Not for odd time signatures. He said tool schism suck, so there you go people😂
Tool is a niche group. To progressive for normal listeners.
@@vikusen1857i went from nirvana to tool and became a diehard fan of both so it's not rlly that niche
He's wrong about this song, but Tool does suck.
You’re trippin
I love that you didn’t fake this at all. They have friendlier songs fire people who aren’t quite ready for thrash. I think a good redemption song for you would be “Sad but true”
.
Yikes, this video should be titled "missing the point in video form" unbelievable
It's his honest opinion. And maybe he's never dealt with addiction.
I like a good amount of Metallica songs but I never really enjoyed the sound of this one even if the lyrics are well done.
Would you rather be faked liking it so your feelings wouldn't be hurt? Not everyone likes the song.
@@JoeyProffitt1978no one is saying this is somehow not an opinion. He didn’t even listen to the whole song or even pay attention to the lyrics and you can tell. Of course not everyone is going to pay attention to them or is gonna like it at first, but people are calling out his clear closed mindedness and they’re entitled to call it out as his audience
@@anthonyjs8048read my comment above. You didnt get the point of the criticism and just want to defend the dude because you probably have a similar mindset.
Unsubscribe to the one who judges a song from the first 30% !
Idt you were understanding the lyrics bro
You heard it here, he likes the poppy MGK stuff
He did not even make it to one of the best transitions in all of music. That's where it really gets good!
I have never seen anyone not like this song. Like ever!! Part the beauty of this song is figuring out the mystery of the lyrics is about drug addiction.
Thats exactly what I said. He loves solos and he didn't even get there. Lol
Lmao i noticed the vid is shorter than the actual song 💀. Also this clears sandman bro
🤦🏽♂️4.5
@@PML78 It's not a very good song, such a bore for the first 5 minutes or so lol. Lyrically it's interesting and the solos and transitions are great....those are the only good things about the song.
yeah I just noticed that 30 seconds into this video. no point in watching any further. I can't imagine liking Sandman and not loving Puppets.
@@blindfire3167it is very very good song. Very critically acclaimed in the metal sphere for a reason. One of the hookiest riffs in metal. One of the most anthemic choruses in the entirety of the genre. An explosive opener. I literally started off my thrash journey with Megadeth, Slayer and Exodus. But this clears. Phenomenal track and praised for a reason
If there’s one song that must be heard in its entirety, it’s Master of Puppets.
Rob, re-read the lyrics and then re-take this trip, from beginning to end.
Dave from Melbourne, Australia
It's all good if you don't like it, but know that the reaction cut off at a big switchup in the song. even if you don't film it, just check out the ending... basically from almost exactly where you cut it off...
The most popular thing about this song is the heavy breakdown and the guitar solo. It's all a big build up to that.
Nah bro u buggin w this one. Im younger than u and THIS SHIT 🔥🔥🔥. Maybe ur ear aint fully developed for this type of metal yet as opposed to more accessible, shorter songs, but im sure you’ll come around to it in the future as u continue ur Metal journey
Old school Metallica is more akin to classical music than popular rock. It has to be appreciated in its entirety as a complete composition. That’s probably why you prefer Enter Sandman. It’s more like pop rock music.
Those mid lyrics went way over your head mate.
Those lyrics are actually amazing, weird that you didn't get it. I feel that you did not try to understand it. You used the word "generic", but it's really not honestly, enter sandman is way more generic than master of puppets
For most of us who listened to Metallica when it came out in the 80’s it was absolutely ground breaking. This is probably one of the most important metal albums of all time. Most that generation feels Enter Sandman was a Jump the Shark moment for Metallica. Enter is completely homogenized in comparison to Master. But it’s just a wrong generation so it’s all good. Maser of Puppets is a stone cold Masterpiece. Enter Sandman is the commercialized tilt for Metallica. It’s okay.
Man, the idea that you liked Enter Sandman better than this blows my mind. Enter Sandman, although not a bad song, was basically the most commercial song they ever released and was on the album when they were pretty much labeled sell-outs. Their older songs are far better than anything they've done modern day. The idea that you see this as a song you'd hear on TV and cartoons is crazy.
You are right but he didn't really make that much of a crazy statement, seeing as, 80's cartoon intros, had blazing solos and 'Judas Priest and Metallica like riffs'. Check out SilverHawks and 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Full Theme Tune'
it is not crazy because it is not the 1980's anymore, by today's standards of course this would be on cartoons, it probably already has.
Fade to black by Metallica is one of their greats
Needed to listen longer
You didn't finish it? How much adhd do you have? Least finish the song
It think you'd really enjoy One by Metallica waaay more since you liked Enter Sandman
Maybe he'd like 'Load' and 'Reload'
No bro. Not One. He needs the mainstream stuff first, then the old shit.
This is definitely old school Metallica and a lot of people have a lot of fondness for it because it went pretty hard for the time. Hearing Avenged Sevenfold and Rage Against the Machine first definitely will affect how you feel about this one. I'd be very interested to see what you think of "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" by Megadeth. It came out in 1990, so about 4 years later, and is, in my opinion, a pretty impressive piece of metal music.
Well im on the younger side and i must say old school Metallica is way better than a7x regardless of having heard it first. RATM, on the other hand, makes a very different type music so it’s difficult to compare the two
I'd like to see how he reacts to Holy Wars as well,.....If he honestly gives it a listen and calls it trash,.....I might have to do a bunch of rethinking. Rethink what has become of the younger generation.
Holy wars is a master piece
"YEEEAAAH YEAAH!"
- James Hetfield
Wrong song
@@hoodiejalen366 He YEEHEEAAHS at all times, that is his language.
@@Cyborg_Lenin your thinking Bono from U2. James ends everything with a “ya” at the end of it. MASTER..ya MASTER…ya.
@@Queef_latina James "yeah"s quite a lot though
Deadass whats the point in reacting if u ent even gunna see the song through
NGL it felt really repetitive when I heard it for the first time but as you listen to it more often and the whole song it grows on you
Master of Puppets and enter sandman aren't even in the same ballpark. Sandman is like a t-ball team going up against the allstar MLB team.
As a huge metallica fan. I get you, man! There are great songs from every genre that don't necessarily vibe to people that don't usually listen to such genre. You didn't vibe to it, but that's it. And I'm thankful that you're honest on your reaction. 🤘
You have to check out Cemetary Gates by Pantera.
Bro that might go too hard (sarcasm)
The live version!!
One of the first "difficult" songs I learned when starting guitar oh so many years ago. It will always be near and dear to my heart.
It's about drug addiction. The beginning is the addiction calling him, the interlude is the high, the 3rd section is coming down and g3tting frantic for another better high. It's a complex song and you didn't make it out of the1st third to experience the masterpiece
You missed the whole rest of the song that makes it more incredible
"More groundbreaking in that time." Nailed It.
Maybe this song isn't about the lyrics? This song is about drugs. The "master" is drugs, the addict is the puppet.
You missed the best part of the song. The solo. It’ll change your perspective. You should listen to it and give us an update!
Hetfield is a very blunt poet.
Bands/Songs that you should check out:

this was included into the national music registry .... id give it another listen but you are allowed your opinion
Gotta finish the song bruh.. it is after all the epic metallica piece called master of puppets, not pastor of muppets 😂 anyway try "Fuel" instead.. might be your kinda jam, keep up the good work tho, enjoyin your content 👍🏼😁
You jumped out before the best parts!!!!
It's funny you stopped just before it hit it's real showcase, you'd probably enjoy the next section. But yeah, the song is definitely a slow burn from the era when all Metallica songs were like 7 to 9 minutes, taking it's time to play out.
This is arguably the greatest song Metallica ever put out. This is like, their signature song. The guitar is out of this world, the drums are kicking, James kills the delivery of the vocals. Yet you didn't even make it to the solo. Don't get me wrong Enter Sandman is a great song, but comparing that to Master of Puppets is like comparing a Corvette to an F1 car, Enter Sandman is not even on the same level.
Hard to compare this to enter sandman... this is one of their first big early songs. They were a very different band in the teens and early 20s than the polished adult enter sandman Era.😅 I dunno if listen to it all. But you don't get it, that's OK. You will.
The lyrics is the whole song lol its about drugs and if I'm not wrong heroine to be exact
cocaine
"chop your breakfast on a mirror"
This song got a huge bounce from Stranger Things Season 4, RIP Eddie Munson.
Hey, man. This is the whole point. If it's not for you, it's not for you. It's a song about addiction and how it controls your life. That being said, I appreciate you being honest. Also, if you don't like this you won't like any of their older stuff because this is one of the best songs they've done in their old catalog.
I would rather you say you dont like stuff than pretend like the others do. An honest real reaction is why us old white dudes enjoy watching these sort of videos.
Feel free to be as expressive when you dislike a song as you are when you like a song. You got those big outburst reactions, laughing like an autistic kid. Its great! So dont hold yourself back when you dislike something!
I enjoy your reactions because I never know what you'll like or not lol This one is a banger to me and I really appreciate the symbolism in the lyrics, but to each their own, of course. Looking forward to more reactions, keep it up, man!
This song is miles ahead of enter sandman- I suppose it can be an acquired taste. Maybe you are also turned off by the 80s production vs. the 90s production of Enter Sandman. Obviously opinions are subjective but you are definitely drawn to simple & more straightforward songs- all the riff and melodic mastery this track offers simply goes over your head- which is okay.
I truly hope you can start appreciating more complex songs more as opposed to only looking to simple song structures & riffs- because you will miss out on a lot of great music simply due to ignorance.
Respect for always keeping it real tho- I’m a fan of what you do & I think its great you are exposing yourself to new music.
Contrary to popular belief, 'Master of Puppets', isn't Metallica's best Album.. Their best album is 'And Justice For All'
No way. The arrangements are incredible, but there's zero bass on those tracks. The horrible production and engineering of that record is well documented.
@@troofunloads4112 MOP is muffled and tinny.. And some riffs are boring. 'And Justice For All' is the best produced album.. EVER .. By far.. Even beats Pantera's 'Vulgar display of power.'
But we didn't even get to the solos, rough. Try Battery then, might be a bit more your speed.
😂Dyers eve, Damage Inc. 'Cannibal Corpse: She was asking for it', 'Deicide: Revocate the Agitator' 'Mayhem: Ancient Skin'
Never judge a Metallica song without hearing the solo ever
You said in an earlier video that when a song was switching it up that was a kinda dope for you - I have to tell you, that now you gave up listening this shit just seconds before the great switching up .. 🙄
Everything sounds like it cause they created it. Listen to it live
I am BEGGING you to let the ladies represent in this series! Give Jinjer a listen, either Pisces or Vortex to start and then you’ll be hooked!
Need to finish it. It's one of the harder songs. It's bout that crave and consuming life on drugs.
I know youve already done two Tool songs, but you gotta ABSOLUTELY gotta watch Tool 'Pnuema' but the danny carey drummer video. Itll blow your mind how good he is.
Drug addiction is the metaphorical Master of Puppets.
honesty is in short supply in the world, brother. nothing wrong with being sincere.
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Bruh, you have to get into the mode....its about allowing anything, mainly drugs, to become your "master". You become the puppet. Its deeper than just some background ish. Just like "enter sandman" was about stuff haunting you, this is in the same "vein", pun intended 😂. Metallica has deeper meanings than say Rob Zombie. You have to get in the flow a bit and you'll have a better understanding. I appreciate you, BIG Hollywood!
Pro tip, get your v card laminated so when you drop it on the ground it won't get dirty.
lol always love your honesty Rob, actually one of the realest reactors, 80's Metalica was groundbreaking and inspiring for all the amazing heavy music that follows to this day
It’s about drugs, and how the drug is the “Master” is the drugs controlling your life. When reading the lyrics again, think of drugs and the song will make more sense. Cheers mate! 🤟🏼
Old folks remember this when it was new and have followed it since.. We are beautiful, we rock, we know how to party, and we know what good music is|!!! xopxoxo
I would say this song definitely IS about the lyrics. I first heard this song maybe a year ago and felt kind of similarly that the sound was a bit generic for most of the beginning, but when the lyrics kicked in I was loving it. I think a song about drug addiction written from the perspective of the drug talking to the person was a pretty amazing idea and they executed it well. no hate for not liking it though, it's always a matter of taste
bro cut off right before it gets to the best part 😭… this man
It is about addiction from the drug's point of view. It is the master and we are the puppets
Master of Puppets and the Black album are completely stylistically different. You transition from their thrash metal albums with Cliff, and to a more mainstream metal album like Black album.
Oh yeah if you understand what he's talking about and then you wait for the whole song man it's a great song
Just came from your Enter Sandman video, and I respect you so much for being brutally honest when you don't like a song. I found you from your Killing in the Name video a while ago, and when you say a song is bad even though you know you'll get hate, it makes your reactions to stuff you truly love so much more meaningful.
With that said, it is so wack to stop like a 8-9 minute song (I haven't listened to it in a while lol) just 3 minutes in. The song changes drastically, and even though you may not like it, it'd be entertaining for me to watch you trash it, and you don't look dumb to the fans of the song (they'll hate anyway though ofc). I suggest Echoes by Pink Floyd. It's a great song, and it was the immediate precursor to Dark Side of the Moon, which has sold like 50 million records. I don't think you'll like it tbh, but I would love to see your reaction anyway. It's like 20 minutes long, I think it was the entire back half of an album.
Something I'm noticing:
- Rob doesn't like faster tempo songs -- prefers songs with groovier drums in slower tempos (didn't like Mr. Brightside)
- Rob doesn't seem to like songs with odd meter (didn't like Tool)
There is 2 minutes I won't get back
To WHOM THE BELLS TOLL.. LIVE IN MEXICO REACTION.. and AX7 ( critical acclaim/ beast of a harlot LIVE in the LBC .. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
After watching his reactions to Schism, The Outsider, and now Master of Puppets. I have come to the conclusion he won't like anything not in 4/4. Which makes sense if he's originally a rap fan.
Respect your opinion, give the song a full listen on your own time tho. I think you’d find the complete track more compelling
Nah see this is why I like you man, so many other people would be scared to say they weren't fucking with a song this big, doing this just makes me know your reactions are actually honest and that you're not overreacting for clout.
Don’t try ‘One’-Those of us that grew up with Metallica are able to appreciate the longer songs. When you’re first ‘dipping your toe’ in the water you need to start off with songs like ‘Fuel’…that has kick a$$ hook and the song isn’t long, 100% adrenaline and it will carry you through. It’s difficult to start off w their best like Enter Sandman and then go to anything else…you need to appreciate the early and how they evolved…FUEL is the next song for you, TRUST!
I’m telling you-FUEL is the next song for you and won’t disappoint-first comment on their music video is ‘If Testosterone had a soundtrack’…this is the next one for you 😎😎😎
You might come back to this song much later down the line and find it has grown on you, like I did. Took me years to get properly into metal and not just picky and choosey. Love the videos Rob.
The beginning of the song is the manic feeling of needing a fix… it’s designed to be chaotic. Then when it slows and gets melodic is when the addict gets the fix. Then it goes back to needing the next fix.
If you’re going to do a reaction, finish the video.
As for recommendations for the next Metallica song, if you want something unique then definitely try "One", and some other songs from that same album, like "Harvest of Sorrow" or "Dyers Eve".
Also, in my experience it's easier to listen to old rock and metal music on a good pair of speakers, for some reason that "old and boring" feel isn't as noticeable that way as when listening with headphones.
I was in the USMC during this time.
Still to this day, I want my marines listing to this type of music !
Semper Fi ! MF'rs!!!!!!!
Devil Dog!!
Finally! A reactor that gives his honest opinion instead of acting like they love every single song.
idk man it's not really an honest opinion if he doesn't even listen to the song
Judging by some of the music you've loved, you'd probably like "500 Channels" by Choking Victim and it'll introduce you to how punk bass typically sounds, which was also heavily inspired by black peoples' bass in rock music in the 70's and 80's.
I do appreciate the honesty. Sometimes it feels like reactors pretend to like songs just for content
i get you my dude, in metal there are certain stages you go through that makes you appreciate different types of songs, and sometimes some songs just don't click with you, maybe in a couple of days, maybe a couple of months or even years.
shit, i now love song i hated when i was younger.
it is what it is.
sometimes a little context is needed to fully enjoy the songs, i dunno.
i love your reactions brother, i love how genuine you are.
keep it up.
Honest negative reactions make positive ones worthwhile. This song is important for it's time, but it's aged as a pretty whatever song for the majority of the track. Admittedly, you didn't get to the most dynamic parts of the song (bridge and solo are pretty sweet) but that's alright. A song shouldn't feel like a slog. Looking forward to more reviews.
Nah nah nah nah man. You need to hear the whole song, understand that the lyrics are about drugs and a lot it is from the point of view of the drug itself. “Come crawling faster, obey your master”. Plus the solo is 🔥
