@Audrey Asher Didn't mean to come across as 'condescending' but I'm afraid you're wrong. Haute couture IS a protected term (it's even a a special designation created by the French government) that is commonly misused as there are very specific rules that need to be met to achieve the term. To be accepted you need to meet the requirements of the 'Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture'. JW Anderson is a fabulous fashion brand and is definitely high quality but just because they are owned by the conglomerate LVMH doesn't classify them as 'haute couture'. For example Louis Vuitton which is one of the biggest fashion brands in the world isn't even considered to be haute couture and that doesn't take away from the fact that it is still an incredibly influential fashion house. Also fashion houses can lose their 'haute couture' status if they fail to meet the requirements, e.g. Givenchy lost it's status in spring 2013. I would advise you look into the term and the difference between 'couture' and 'haute couture' before you try and use it in the future...
Even though JW Anderson is high fashion, it is not haute couture :) there are only A FEW brands that are listed as haute couture, and there is a whole federation to certified who is haute couture which i believed there is only about 40 something couturier in the world that is certified and listed on their website. So yeh it is a term you have to be careful before using and do proper research about it.

You really are. I bought my yarn a few days before this video came out. I bought the extra chunky yarn, like they said in the pattern, I was suspicious however because the close up looked like just multiple strands of yarn together.... Well now this video comes out and my suspicions are confirmed. I'm sure it will be just as good with the chunky yarn, definitely easier to knit, but somehow it doesn't sit right with me 😂 My next suspicion is that it's not actually wool, but at least a mix (which is what I got)
@@mirandaosh2046 yes, he sent the cardigan back so they could take the measurements and share on the internet for the fans, because a lot of the fans we're trying to remake the cardigan and some had more success than others and he wanted everyone to get the perfect measurements and do a good job.

Ananya I am following the a tutorial from To Be So Kat on UA-cam. She is really good at explaining things and she is going step by step so you don’t get confused. I am almost half way done and it’s looking pretty good. And don’t worry there are really only 2 types of stitches ( knit stitch and purl stitch) and once you get those down you can basically do any pattern. But beware of the black and red square it is a little tricky but it’s not as hard as what she is doing in this video 😁😁

I'm doing a crochet version of this cardigan. Well, more accurately I'm doing a cardigan inspired by this cardigan. I'm using various neutral shades instead of bright colors because I know I will get more use out of it. But the original bright colors are utterly charming. I'm "translating " the knitting instructions into crochet and I'm so grateful JWA gave us the pattern. Very generous. I love the rustic touches like leaving the color change ends exposed as little tassels and having some of the seams on the outside. I'm definitely doing that. This beautiful "Harry Styles " cardigan has sparked my creativity in a way that nothing else has done for a long time. Thank you J W Anderson.

this is honestly a great start for beginner knitters! you learn so many stitches and techniques like color switching and different patterns! i started with the garter stitch and it seems like the top row of the back panel kind of goes from easiest to hardest!! it’s also a great project for keeping my hands busy. i’m making the cardigan for my sister’s birthday, and i’ll eventually make myself one for the fall!

so they’re using size 4 yarn and thick needles and i could’ve went to my nearest craft store get them and not have to wait a whole month and maybe even longer for my order to come in
This is why I haven’t knitted it so far. She says that you will have multiple plys with the actual pattern, so does that mean doubling up on the dk? Tripling?? Ugh super confused.
@@madelynmoss4656 She does mean doubling/tripling up, holding it double would probably be fine (and give you a nicer drape) than holding triple, as it can get quite stiff holding triple with 8mm needles. The best thing to do would be to try holding it double and knitting a practice square 22st across and maybe two inches high (a gague swatch). When you measure your gague swatch compare it against the pattern which is 18st measures 14cm (do not count the two stitches on either side they are just to stabalise the part you need to measure). If your swatch is too big then go down a needle size to a 7mm and try another. If your swatch is too small you might want to try holding triple or going up to a 9mm needle. Hope that makes sense! if things are still confusing dm me, i have a knitting instagram @tea.and.leaves and am always happy to help :)

Hey! Thank you so much for this. But I’m still not sure about the measurements of the square. In the instructions it says 18 stitches and 14cm so I have to do 18 stitches and then x number of rows until it’s 14cm or the square has to be 14x14cm? Thank you
That cause by your tension being too tight, you gauge is meant to be 18 stitches = 14 cm so you can either add more yarn to your ply or use larger knitting needles or both to make sure it’s the correct gauge. I mean it doesn’t make too much difference as this is a very patch work pattern but if you’re ever knitting something more exact you’ll need to try and match as much as possible so you can make sure it fits

I'm doing a crochet version of this cardigan. Well, more accurately I'm doing a cardigan inspired by this cardigan. I'm using various neutral shades instead of bright colors because I know I will get more use out of it. But the original bright colors are utterly charming. I'm "translating " the knitting instructions into crochet and I'm so grateful JWA gave us the pattern. Very generous. I love the rustic touches like leaving the color change ends exposed as little tassels and having some of the seams on the outside. I'm definitely doing that. This beautiful "Harry Styles " cardigan has sparked my creativity in a way that nothing else has done for a long time. Thank you J W Anderson.
There are crochet tutorials for this cardigan as well! So no need to translate the kitting instructions.

Joy Legon yeah we struggled here but if we ever wanted to remake it which i might do with different colors i can see my progress and how better i’ve gotten because before this i never knitted in my life.

this is honestly a great start for beginner knitters! you learn so many stitches and techniques like color switching and different patterns! i started with the garter stitch and it seems like the top row of the back panel kind of goes from easiest to hardest!! it’s also a great project for keeping my hands busy. i’m making the cardigan for my sister’s birthday, and i’ll eventually make myself one for the fall!
guys, don't lose hope!! knitting is pretty simple to learn! ive made a ton of squares so far and I'm very excited for the finished product. you can do this, i believe in you!!

so they’re using size 4 yarn and thick needles and i could’ve went to my nearest craft store get them and not have to wait a whole month and maybe even longer for my order to come in

I’m so confused, the pattern says to use super chunky yarn but she’s just using DK and it looks the same?! Which one do I need
This is why I haven’t knitted it so far. She says that you will have multiple plys with the actual pattern, so does that mean doubling up on the dk? Tripling?? Ugh super confused.
@@madelynmoss4656 She does mean doubling/tripling up, holding it double would probably be fine (and give you a nicer drape) than holding triple, as it can get quite stiff holding triple with 8mm needles. The best thing to do would be to try holding it double and knitting a practice square 22st across and maybe two inches high (a gague swatch). When you measure your gague swatch compare it against the pattern which is 18st measures 14cm (do not count the two stitches on either side they are just to stabalise the part you need to measure). If your swatch is too big then go down a needle size to a 7mm and try another. If your swatch is too small you might want to try holding triple or going up to a 9mm needle. Hope that makes sense! if things are still confusing dm me, i have a knitting instagram @tea.and.leaves and am always happy to help :)

Hey! Thank you so much for this. But I’m still not sure about the measurements of the square. In the instructions it says 18 stitches and 14cm so I have to do 18 stitches and then x number of rows until it’s 14cm or the square has to be 14x14cm?

thats what ive been doing, and the 18 stitches usually turns out to be roughly 14cm as well

That cause by your tension being too tight, you gauge is meant to be 18 stitches = 14 cm so you can either add more yarn to your ply or use larger knitting needles or both to make sure it’s the correct gauge. I mean it doesn’t make too much difference as this is a very patch work pattern but if you’re ever knitting something more exact you’ll need to try and match as much as possible so you can make sure it fits
