- India is drawing up plans for a centralised air traffic command centre in Nagpur. Once completed, ISHAN- Indian Single Sky Harmonised Air Traffic Management at Nagpur- will reduce travel time, reduce fuel consumption, and hopefully, it will also make flying cheaper in India. Here are the details.

We should have a backup command center wherein they operate half the time. Just one place could halt the operation on any natural cause.

Absolutely required. I am sure there will be a plan to have a backup command centre in case of cyber attacks, technical slags or catastrophic failures.
Of course it’s standard practice and they don’t tell you where it’s gonna be b’coz it’s called DRB centre ….

Well, airlines will have big profits out of this change but I don’t think they will share that with the passengers instead they will come up with new marketing campaigns to increase the air fares.
Already passengers are on an avg paying the same airfares since last 10 years when cost of operating the airline has shot up crazily. look at cost of an activa . earlier it used to cost 40k now more than 1l. avg del mum flight in 2007 used to cost 6-7k now also the same . airplane used to cost 50 rs /usd and now it is 80rs/usd. cost of one airplane 50 mn usd .

What is the benefit within an FIR ?
We need to increase security and increase ground station command office at every airport when we increase air travel and include private or military personnel at airports to ensure safety and security
Unlikely that savings will be passed on to Passengers at all. We actually saw an increase in flight prices when GoAir and Jet Airways failed because airlines took advantage of the supply demand differential by increasing price given less choise and also ithey increased the number of routes flown. ..
Blueprint is good. But implementating is really difficult. As the process will be centralised so whole work will come under one point. More systems and man power will be required. And offcourse without a proper management and coordination this is not possible. I hope the team before starting implementation they work on every aspects.

The probability of tickets getting cheaper is minimal or none, but it will help in saving energy
instead of Ishan it should have been All India Sovereign Airspace Control or AISAC . . .
or All India Centralized Airspace Control System AICACS for that matter . . . regardless of the centralized flight management in Nagpur the existing FIR will still have to function as backup in troubling situations & emergencies . . .
Assuming 40L saved per minute, that's roughly 4000rs per flight and assuming there are 200 passengers in that flight, that's roughly 20rs less per passenger
So every minute saved is like saving 20rs per passanger

This is an election thing. There isn't that sort of unprecedented air traffic in India to justify this expense yet!

Why can't the existing control centres be simply put under one centralised command and one unified FIR to control a single unified Indian airspace?
Yes but so many ATCs in other parts of the country will close down. Loss of jobs for so many people. Having one ATC for the entire airspace is also risky. If there is an issue, the entire airspace is affected. Fares are set by private airlines. I doubt whether private airlines will really reduce rates.
A plan can deliver its promised blessings only when the plan is executed with promptitude.

There is a lot of competition in the Indian airline market today so if there is possibility of capturing market share by decreasing prices by increasing efficienciancy then companies will go for it.... It is standard tactic.

I am not sure how this will help. This is rocket science. From a federated peer to peer structure we are moving to a centralized structure. For something like an airline withi souls on onboard it's a single point of failure unless it's bulletproof. Tech ,infra and human investment will he huge. I only hope it Will be staged change.
