You'll love it! Since filming this test I've already learnt a lot more about what it can do. I don't see the need for a camera upgrade for quite some time! The prices seem to be all over the shop. I got mine from a Melbourne online store for AU$2100 ($400 cheaper than any other site!)
I never owned an XA10 but being able to record directly as mp4 was a big selling point for me, as well as recording in 50/60p. I will hopefully have some other footage up soon as my band will be in the studio over the next month. I'll probably cut together a quick video of some of the other footage I've gathered from testing it out better :)
For just general viewing it's very clear and looks amazing. Unfortunately youtube compresses everything down and only runs at 24fps I believe. I haven't properly tried the built in slowmo feature on the cam, though I have done it using Motion using a regular 50p file and it came out really nice!
I'm not sure of the maximum quality you can get on the second file when dual recording as I've only got the one memory card going (128gb) and don't personally have a use for it, though I do know that if you're recording at 28mbps AVCHD or 35mbps MP4, that you you aren't even given the option to use dual recording. There's a copy of the manual online that has a bit more info about it
Thanx for the info, defineatly gonna get one, but at present appear to be in short supply here in the UK. That coupled with the prices being quoted - ranging from £1680 to over £2100 at the moment, plus there are none for sale on ebay or amazon yet ( which I normally use to gauge what sort of price one can expect to pay ) So at present its a waiting game !
I just ordered one. Hoping it will pair with DSLR footage fairly well for handheld portions of documentary work. Let me know if you cut together with DSLR. Thanks for posting.
Hi! There seems to be a limited # of videos on this camera. I am in the market for new cameras. I currently own 2 Canon XHA1's. They have been great for us but now is the time to upgrade to something different. I have been looking at a couple of DSLR's for quite awhile but due to cost of rigging these cameras out, was looking for something in this price range and a bit more user friendly. Can you sell me on the differences between this camera and the XHA1 and why the A20 and not a 7d or 60D?
I bought the XA20 recently too. Upside: - Handle rattle fixed - Viewfinder is higher res, tilts up and has good diopter range (big plus!) - Proper zoom rocker (very nice compared to the XA10) - 20 x zoom (great improvement) - Image stabilisation (big improvement for handheld work) Downside: - Waveform monitor gone! (why, why why!) - Batteries different to xa10 (they look the same and are the same voltage but the xa10 batteries give an error message - stupid!) - No inbuilt memory
Please let us know if the XLR handle rattles like in the XA10. Been waiting for over a year for XA20. So far I like it. But just want to make sure the handle rattling defect in XA10 is fixed in XA20. Thank You!!!
Until more "consumers" get their hands on one we aren't gonna fully what it can and can't achieve - my aims ( I hope ) would be to WiFi link it to my PC or a yet to be purchased Tablet and also add a remotely controlled motorised pan / tilt head to my tripod, I like wildlife videoing and transport videoing, I believe its been available in your part of the world since late May, I've noticed a few Japanese consumer vids on here.

I've heard about the XA10 rattle and I haven't had any problems with rattling on my XA20!
Yep all with the built-in mics. I just tested it out at my band's rehearsal tonight (which is very loud) and there's no clipping at all on auto mode.
I've added the link into the description now :) UA-cam wouldn't let me use it in a comment

Thanx for posting - presume the audio was from the cameras built in mikes.

lol you know you're in australia when you visit a duck pond and find a random iguana sitting there.
Any way I can get some clips so I can see how it grades in Premiere?
Very very nice footage.
Thanks for the feedback. Saving up to buy xa20 at Xmas. ^_^
