peter odemwingie comes to mind on this subject for me. Tried forcing a move from West Brom to QPR on deadline day even though the offer wasn’t accepted. Never was same since
Adu was born a decade too early. If the USA has the soccer infrastructure such as the academies and such they do now, he would have been much better than Pulisic ever was.
Berahino has a chant by the Albion fans that I won't say but it is to the tune of Hey Lady. But I remember going to Molienux as a West Brom fan to watch him play for England U21's alongside Harry Kane he scored and wasn't booed. Gareth Southgate asked the Molienux crowd not to boo him.
Can't help but think of Sandro Tonali setting himself WAY back by the age of 23. It also seems like Marcelo Flores made a bad call going from a possible contract extension with Arsenal to Tigres in Mexico.
Berahino was decent for us (swfc) but always looked like he needed a big man next to him to deal with the stronger defenders as he’d lost a yard of pace
Oscar doesn't belong in this video because all these players accidentally ruined their careers while Oscar knew exactly what he was getting himself into by moving to China 💰
I’m a massive Barcelona fan and a massive Coutinho fan. That being said, I think our signing of Coutinho was one of the dumbest signings in history. He likes to have the freedom to roam, drop into the middle of the park, play long balls, and carry the ball in and out of the wide spaces. Who else does that? The one and only Lionel Andres Messi. They could never work in a system together. Had we signed Coutinho after Messi left, I think it could’ve been a massive success. Messi needed out and out wingers, and unfortunately (for both parties), that’s never been Phil :(
He was signed with never really having a spot to play in Barcelona which is dumb in itself to spend that on a player who preferred position is played by Messi 😂
A somewhat "lighthearted" suggestion for a future video: why not make a tier-list with the clubs you like and the ones you hate, regardless of country?
Players wasting their talent through poor ethics makes me angry on behalf of players that work their ass off but are always limited by their lack of physical gifts
I would say Ever Banega, his attitude cost him big,his link up with Messi at the 2010 and 2014 World Cup was good. And Alejandro Papu Gomez although peaked after 29 and won world cup with Argentina ruined his career. His combination with Ilicić at Atalanta BC was epic until he disrespected Gasperini and now is banned for 3 years from football after drug test. Got himself early retirement.
As a Mexican it really frustrated me that Giovanni dos santos ended up the way he did, he was good with Villarreal but sadly like you said, the money makes people not care about the sport anymore. At least there were more Mexican footballers at the time who were doing well in Europe like his brother Jonathan, chicharito, guardado, Herrera and others 🤷🏻♂️
Coutinho is a sad one, but transfers to huge clubs, even from clubs the size of Liverpool, can be death sentences. And it seems after the first failed transfer, moves to other clubs, at best, lead to brief bouts of success. Another constant is that the player seems to end up bouncing around. Perhaps too expensive to be merely a good player and at an average team. I wouldn't mind seeing redemption stories about players whose careers have utterly stalled, and then miraculously revived. Maybe James Rodriguez's fantastic COPA run will be a sign that, at least in Brazil he can regain some status.
What a moronic thing to say that a player ruined his career when all they did was not live up to the early hype that hundreds upon thousands of players get
For me the biggest talent I’ve seen at my club was Jese . That ACL injury ruined him and after that he had problems with his partner, he missed training sessions at psg , completely ruined himself shame :(
Loads of players have fallen from great heights - and I don't feel sorry for any of them. I'm sure they're all doing very well financially despite never fulfilling their potentials - could be worse, couldn't it.
Could u do a video on Mario Balotelli . One of my favourite players when I was younger but just seemed to dissappear. Still always sign him on fifa career mode

He had all the tools to be a great, just never put in the work Finally what happened to Coutihno from Bayern to Arab league
I think an interesting topic for another video would be players who got their careers ruined through no fault of their own. And I don't mean cases like Roberto Baggio or Marco Reus who despite all the odds had great careers and we just wonder what more could they achieve with functioning bodies (Baggio would have page-jacked the Matrix I'm sure). Just heartbreaking stories of complete failure (although it may be a bit depressing)

Both of them are doing well at their new clubs to be fair. Barkley’s going to play UCL football with Villa next season so his career’s on the up, even in his 30s
Imo I wouldn't say Giovanni ruined his career, he went of his own volition to la galaxy which, while definitely not at the same level as Villarreal, was one of the strongest clubs in north America at the time, asides from the fact that Los Angeles is both close to his birth nation of Mexico and has a significant Mexican population, which I'm sure were significant factors for the signing (as well as, of course, the wages). Footballers are humans too and sometimes it makes sense to lower your level. Glaring omission in my opinion would be Karius, who in 90 minutes went from promising talent to laughing stock

peter odemwingie comes to mind on this subject for me. Tried forcing a move from West Brom to QPR on deadline day even though the offer wasn’t accepted. Never was same since
I know these are some obvious shouts but the two that come to mind for me are Freddy Adu and Hatem Ben Arfa.
Can't believe you didnt show ravels solo goal for west ham against spurs. As a west ham fan I will never forget that one, a wassted telant indeed.
Can't help but think of Sandro Tonali setting himself WAY back by the age of 23. It also seems like Marcelo Flores made a bad call going from a possible contract extension with Arsenal to Tigres in Mexico.
Coutinho still hurts me, he fitted flicks system to a T, pain Barca wanted so much atm for him
Berahino was decent for us (swfc) but always looked like he needed a big man next to him to deal with the stronger defenders as he’d lost a yard of pace
Ben Arfa, Oscar and James Rodriguez should be in there
Oscar doesn't belong in this video because all these players accidentally ruined their careers while Oscar knew exactly what he was getting himself into by moving to China 💰
The seconds between hazard signing for madrid he was gonna win a ballon dor but flopped it
I’m a massive Barcelona fan and a massive Coutinho fan.
As a villa fan I'm gutted about courtinho..... that's the most I've ever been excited by a signing
As a dutch person i instantly thought of ihattaren.
A somewhat "lighthearted" suggestion for a future video: why not make a tier-list with the clubs you like and the ones you hate, regardless of country?
Dos santos was class at ipswich! Probably the best loan ive ever seen at town. Shame we couldnt buy him
Players wasting their talent through poor ethics makes me angry on behalf of players that work their ass off but are always limited by their lack of physical gifts
During the 2014/15 season I thought saido berahino was going to be the next big thing so frustrating he got in his own way.
Anyone remembers how things crumbled for Bojan Krkic Perez of Barcelona?
Aubameyang when he got that new contract for Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez to Man United were also huge fall offs
What a moronic thing to say that a player ruined his career when all they did was not live up to the early hype that hundreds upon thousands of players get
Coutinho won a treble mate scoring and assisting in that semi final too cmon guys
I saw the title and i thought "oh yeah Loris Karius"
I looked at the headline and thought instantly of Donny van de Beek.
should've mentioned Jerome Boateng
After Messi chewed him up? 😂😂
For me the biggest talent I’ve seen at my club was Jese . That ACL injury ruined him and after that he had problems with his partner, he missed training sessions at psg , completely ruined himself shame :(
OSCAR … HULK ….. BOJAN ….. DENNNERRERR…. Especially DENER
"Giovanni dis Santos" sounds like a mystery
Balofelli, Alexandre Pato, Adriano. There are a lot
Michael Johnson at Man City was tipped as future England captain, retired at 24 😔
and Adam Johnson :) the nonce. and Rodwell
Bojan Krkcic, an insane talent ruined by pressure
Neymar comes to mind. As for Loris Karius. It seems like after the Real Madrid Liverpool game in the champions league final they do just dis. Also, Dos Santos was a frustrating player to watch.
These weren’t overnight
Yeah, awful title
Could have mentioned Freddy Adu aswell Viz. Called the American Pele
Great shout!
@@Vizeh you're welcome man
Freddy Adu will never not make me think about Alfie from HITC
Based on the title my mind first went to all the players now doing exhibition games in the Middle East, whether it be in Qatar or Saudi.
Let's not forget the exhibition games held in the US too lol
@@a.demifemiflapo5795 the MLS isnt a top league in Europe, but it is still a competitive league that put in significant resources to develop players and aim to have profitable teams standing on their own feet. The MLS isn’t a propaganda tool for the US government. There in lies a significant difference.
@@MatSjo So Qatar and Saudi league are not competitive just because they're Muslim yh 😂
@@a.demifemiflapo5795 where does religion come in to the picture? I would have said the same thing about China a few years back and would say the same thing if North Korea started investing heavily in to their league bringing in top players from Europe and South America.
@@MatSjo Cos everyone is Islamophobic during the World Cup. So it all stinks of Islamophobia. Saudi has always been a competitive league that has recently started to invest in their league by putting in significant resources. Not only are they investing in their football league, but also their tourism sector and their industries as a whole. But because their this Arab Middle Eastern country, no one cares. And here you are denying you aren't hating on them. MLS was always the retirement home for the world's best players. At least there's promotion and relegation in the Middle Eastern league unlike the Murican MLS 🤣
Gio dos santos is arguably one of the best mexican players for the national team. he didn’t ruin his career, he just didn’t fully live up to his potential
if you're the best player in your national team and you're playing in MLS in your early mid 20's after starting out in the best clubs in Europe, you done fucked up your career.
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 i’m saying his career wasn’t a total failure. nationally he’s seen as a hero and one of the best to play for el tri. his club career is a different story. these two things aren’t mutually exclusive, both can be true at the same time
@@MarcosGarcia-pj3pq yeah it's not a total failure, but he is not an average skill player. He had a very high talent and could have been one of the best players in the world similar to Neymar and he squandered that away for what? sex, booze and drugs?
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 and that’s exactly what i said. i said he didn’t live up to his full potential. learn how to read and comprehend
@@MarcosGarcia-pj3pq he didn't live up to his full potential, and he also ruined his career.
both can be true and in his case both are true.
7:30 What stadium is that? It has an incredible view.
Might be the Lazio Training ground or reserves field
It must be said that spurs offer for Saido was only 6mil with 14 in incentives like Spurs winning the league and CL.
I read almost all the comments and noone mentioned Adrian Mutu. edit: also Micah Richards.
Micah Richards is now a very successful and respected tv football pundit. So he hasn’t done that badly in his career, being that he’s still under 40.
@@Damon759 Yes,but I was referring to his playing career.
@@robjohnfox2223 He still wasn’t ruined because he’s still inside the football industry but through the media side. He’s just not kicking a ball up and down the field for a living no more.
@@Damon759 Was that not what the point of this video was though? people that didn't make the most of their playing careers whether it was their fault or not?
Dele ali comes to mind
Oscar moving to China always makes me sad cause he was such a player for Chelsea and if he didnt chase the money could have been for a long time.
As a wolves fan bright enobakhare and Owen Otasawie were frustrating. Both had amazing potential but awful attitudes
As a Chelsea fan, I'd say Hudson Odoi and ross barkley, but it wasn't really their own fault.
A player that should have been a top talent for the Ballon D'or, in which he was at one point ending his career at 29 pretty much is a shame mate
@@Vizeh Considering what happened to wonderkids of a similar level who went on to be massive flops (for example Ravel Morrison) I'd say he had a pretty damn respectable career as a key man for both club and country. Regarding his exit from football at 29, I'd guess that is probably related to the injury that he sustained at America, and while a shame, it is unfortunately a part of the sport
@@VizehsHoUlD hAvE 🤪
Thank you, for keeping Dele Alli off of this list. My heart wouldn't be able to take it 🥲
elite background song
Im surprised Gabri Viega and Karim Boudiaf aren't mentioned
Ah..mason greenwood...
Tipped to be England's kane replacement...
Now, after 'that' he will never get selected.
Seriously man? I expected football scandals or smth. The perfect fit for this video was Mario Götze, who ruined his career with the world cup goal (Public pressure, expectations, too much hype for him to handle at that age etc).
dybala and emre mor were great players they were juventus and borussia dortmund starter players and now they dissapeared...
