I love that you find joy in all the small everyday things like Special Favourites and Big Sainsbury's. So do I. I love shopping in Sainsburys although I do mine online now and get it delivered. I live on my own so I do my own Christmas traditions. I buy my own presents so I don't feel left out, and I get what I want. Theyre mostly things I would have bought anyway but I save them up for Christmas treats! I have a gorgeous b/w cat called Tom. He came from a rescue centre and they let me have him as a house cat because he tested positive for FIV. It's similar to HIV but for cats, so I can't catch it. He's a very handsome tuxedo cat with white mittens and socks and a lovely white bib and chin. He's got a bit of white underneath too, but the rest is black. I love this tradition you have of everyone picking out the treats they like. We are a family of 6 and so the kids are encouraged all year long to share treats, but they LOVE when we have them choose a few things that are just for them. ❤

I think most people have their favourite things they only get in the holiday season, they wouldn’t be special if we had them everyday. Everyone has their favourite thing I bake at Christmas, I used to bake many special sweets but now they can each choose one thing. Things were going to waste with the kids moved to their own homes and starting traditions of their own so I stopped making so many things. 🙋🏼♀️

Paula, that was such a fun vlog! I wish we had a tradition of getting favorites before Christmas….if only I could keep us from treating ourselves the rest of the year. I’ve never had stollen nor have I ever had marzipan but boy that looked delicious. I don’t understand that icing or fondant (not sure what that is) goes over the marzipan? I thought the marzipan was like frosting on a cake but then you frost it again? Anyways, I love that you walked home with the kids. I love walking in the cold weather much better than in warm weather. It so invigorating. Johnny looked so tall in back of you! ❤🎄
Marzipan is a soft confection of sugar, honey, and ground almonds. Royal icing is a sweet, hard icing made from powdered sugar, egg whites and flavorings like vanilla or a squeeze of lemon juice
The stollen looks tasty. I’m in the apricot jam camp but the ginger preserve sounds delicious. Have you ever tried making almond paste which is very similar to marzipan and tastes delicious. I always make it now xx
I put whatever jam I have on the Christmas cake (that’s a big lie because it’s my daughter who’s in charge of it but it’s what she does) but ginger conserve it’ll be next year, yummy. I love your vlogs Paula … xx
My Nan was a head cook in a manor and she used to coat her marzipan on a Christmas cake with a layer of melted chocolate before doing the icing… I have never known anyone else except my Nan and my Mum do this. I’d be really interested to know if anyone else does it. X

I think there must have been a national shortage of marzipan everywhere I struggled massively to find it I thought I was going to have to make my own! Your cake looks lovely ❤and a good idea to buy one and then decorate how you like, I’m icing mine tomorrow I ordered a special topper to put on mine so I’m waiting for that to arrive. Cake looks delicious, I love marzipan too, and it's really difficult to find in the shops, although Lidl had marzipan in their shop today.
