I have one of the early Himalayan's to make it here to the US. Love it. Put a couple thousand miles on it in 3 months. I think honestly, without adding a bunch of aftermarket stuff, it just works out of the box. I'm adding a couple LED lights down low to assist seeing offroad in the dark, but having the ability to have the panniers for storage, I even use it for getting groceries. I keep rain gear in one along with a jacket in case it gets cool out at night and a few necessities like some water etc. I'm getting a set of locking rotopacks on the front racks, so I can hook 4 extra gallons of gas on there securely and that doubles my range offroad. I think the 250 is great for close in riding, but for any distance involved adventure, the Himalayan knocks it out of the part. Check out KarmaKaze Moto's ride from Seattle, Washington to Eagle River, Alaska. 2800 miles epic trip. ;)
Yeah! The Himalayan is a really cool bike! If you’re doing long tarmac stretches, I think it’s better then the Rally, but of on the other hand you’re doing mostly off road, I rather be on the Rally. I recently purchased the Rally, the Himalayan was the only other bike I was seriously considering. Each have definitely got advantages over the other. I think if the Himalayan had a six speed I would have got that instead, its seat, seat height with slightly better position topped with that chugging long stroke was really tempting.
What a great review with really nice editing and useful content. Both of these bikes interest me and it’s nice to find someone that calls each bike for what it really is and how it was intended. Subscribed and best regards
Cheers mate! Thank you for the kind words! I’ve been specializing in motorcycle event coverage, but I’ll be gradually shifting more into reviews, next year! ; )~
Have had the 250 Rally for since 2017 and it is bullet proof. Light, easy to maneuver, goes well over back roads and trail, but here in Canada we have some big country to cover and the 250 on the highway can be challenging. Pluses and minuses for everything I suppose. Good review. Beautiful country.
Agree 100%! It is not a highway bike... you can survive some highway, but not really enjoy it... unfortunately, there are not many options for a bike that does off road and tarmac as well as the little Rally does... A CRF 500x Rally would be the dream! Only 9kg difference between engines... but a bike like that would disrupt Honda’s lineup sales, big time... so... I don’t have a lot of hopes of seeing one... We might see a CRF 450L Rally... but that engine makes no sense in an adventure bike... Cheers! ; )~
The Honda and the Himalayan have about equal HP so what is your point??? 400 CC no good for highway either??? Ya know you don't have to run at 80 MPH all the time on the road...65 will suffice nicely and both bikes can maintain that easily. My XT 225 can even do that. Both U guys shouldn't even own small bikes if you have to ride at warp speed all the time...buy one of those huge heavy worthle$$ off road adventure tanks if you want to go fast. Leave the true dual sport bikes to the guys that enjoy them and appreciate them for what they are!!!
Thanks guys, great video ! I've been riding my Himalayan to work every day and having fun at the weekends too. With or without luggage, unless you're trying to go fast or up long, steep hills, it seems to make virtually no difference to the performance. I might say it's even more stable on road with the panniers. In fact, it's behaving so well that I'm planning a round Europe trip later this year. Keep it up, guys.
Hi, thanks for such an entertaining video. Seeing u make fast turns on the wet roads and still feel confident makes me wonder, what tires are u running on that CRF of yours?
¡¡Enhorabuena!!. ¡Suscrito a vuestro canal!
Tested Re Himalayan last week and unfortunately i had to get off it after 10 mins due to vibrations. Loved the seat and comfy upright position though, but vibrations through pegs, handle bar and tank killed it for me though.
very good, I can see how good it is to put foot on the ground easier, I had Ténéré 250, and I have 1.87 MTS, but already it falls because it does not support the weight of the bike or foot to reach the ground ... hugs
I just found your channel. Great content and this is just what I was looking for. Do you think there's a massive difference to the results of you replace the CRF 250 with the new CRF 300 Rallye? Loved those roads near Lisbon. Must come and ride them!
Good to know you found us and you liked the content. I believe the 300s are a step in the right direction and there are definitely more differences then meet the eye! Cheers! ; )~
Depends on how you like to ride... There is no simple answer to that question. You should try both and decide for yourself, which one puts a bigger smile on your face. That will be the one that will travel the nicest, for you! I opted for a CRF 250 Rally for my long off road travels, but I prefer a bigger bike, when I’m traveling on tarmac only. I really liked both bikes!!! Good luck on your quest! ; )~
Excellent review. The RE Himalayan will be my next bike, to join the other stable mates. It's the true KISS bike (Keep It Simple Stupid) go anywhere, do anything bike, with no frills. For sure a great work-horse or a perfect mule, as you wish. I would say, it's the Land Rover Defender on two wheels...
You better take a look how "simple" that bike is on different motovlogers channels. Cause after theirs reviews I reconsider to buy one of them. Paint just wears off, plastics gets fragile and snaps off. Half of the bolts missing washers from the factory and they need constant retightening. So yeah, just make a homework before buying and then learn a drill to tighten all bolts once a while
@@yannikoloff7659 yeah it's kind of rustic.. bit of locktite on those bolts and add some washers etc. Apparently the export BE4 is much better than previous models, and it's such a basic bike that it's not that hard to maintain yourself
I've been looking at the CB500X, but now starting to lean towards the CRF250 Rally. Exploring the countryside in New Zealand is perfect for it. What is the music you used in the video? Thanks for producing a superb review on these bikes.
Great Surprise, I was looking for some info about the "CRF 250 L / Rally " and i catch this great video with this review and was just amazing, the RE it's not my kind of bike, but I was very, very surprised with the good performance off-road, I was thinking that RE was more limited, but is not bad at all. In 2009, I bought a Yamaha xtz 660 Tenere and was my favorite bike ever, since i sold it in 2016 I got different bikes but i never got one like it. I think that will try the lightweight Honda CRF 250 Rally for my adventures, it's good enough for my basic skills.
The FMF exhaust has the EU homologation? Does it respect the laws about sound? If there is the certificate no prob but I would like to know it before buying it. Thanks you for the answer!
Please drop both bikes and see which one comes out with less damage. I hope the CRF250L as it's supposed to be a much more offroad-oriented bike! I think everyone would love some true offroad videos as well! (Sand, dirt, very uneven terrain at both low and high speeds).
Only naked bike I had was an unrestricted V-Max... is that powerful enough?! Currently also riding a Super Teneré 1200 ES. Look, the purpose of these bikes do not require a whole lot of power. You either get in the spirit, or you’ll be missing a more powerful engine... think of them as marathon runners. Not too fast, but they’ll get you around the world, if you want! With that said, I’ve never ridden so fast off road, as I am on the Rally. And yes I have owned Enduro bikes as well. Sure, the engine goes screaming all the way through... but that’s part of the fun they provide. Do I wish it had a more powerful engine?! Off course! That’s why I keep adding mods to it... Problem is, I don’t know of any other bike that lets me do what I do with this one, in as much comfort and confidence! Stay tuned! Mid September I’ll start publishing a series on a 16 day, 4,550km trip on the Rally, through The Balkans! Cheers! ; )~
@@RadRaven I appreciate your detailed reply, very interesting and i'm glad you're so impressed with the bike. Thanks for the video, really look forward to seeing how you got on with the Balkans trip!
3:42 Indian here 🤙🏽 . What do you mean by that statement!!! I got that same problem with many bikes 🏍, It’s all about design... and seriously i do feel very uncomfortable with these kind of tanks but some people are ,, I don’t know! very comfortable with this look and design ..

Great review, absolutely in love with the Himalayan which is more dual-sport than the 250 Rally, once I'll have finished university and maybe after having found a work, surely I will start thinking of buying it. By the way, great english man, understood literally everything and the pronounciation is very good, good job :D
I'm personally swapping from an 800 cc, 200 kg GS to Rally. Major reasons being I never use the power in the GS and secondly I feel much more confident with about 40 kg less weight! Weight is something important, especially for small people like me. I fall sometimes because I ride a bit "brave" sometimes. And I prefer it with a Rally over GS.
Excellent video, thank you ! As a biker in the Algarve I´d love to know where some of those roads are, any road numbers greatly appreciated so I can get up early one morning and ride there !
Those roads are in the Lisbon area... I don’t know their numbers... but if you connect the dots between the locations we mention, you’re bound to have a lot of fun! I’m also in the Algarve! But in the west region. Cheers! ; )~
Nice video. Excellent editing and good music choices. The Royal Enfield is a Mule. Like a KLR650 or a Harley Sportster. And to a certain extent, the Honda 250 Rally. I hope that you get a chance to ride another bike, which is not really an Enduro, the KTM 690 Enduro. Everything that you said about both of the bikes in this video is greatly intensified with the 690. Honestly, the 690 should be called an ‘adventure’ bike. Nice content an views of Portugal.
Thanks mate! I’ve tried an old 690 and found it exaggeratedly powerful, uncomfortable and in a way, heavy... because although it’s lighter then the CRF 250 Rally, it feels heavier while riding. 70hp is going to take a big toll on tire wear and I don’t know how to use half of those ponies... you achieve ridiculous speeds in less then nothing... and that just promotes recklessness... you just can’t help yourself on a bike like that! So for long trips, I don’t see it as a good option... but maybe that’s just me... their also known for not being super reliable, which what you need the most, when you’re out and about, a long way away from home... And for local rides, if you enjoy that kind of power, I think you’re probably better off with something lighter. Just my 2 cents... ; )~
Thanks! And thank you for the honest feedback. Some people praise the music... so, in the future, I think I’ll create a section, dedicated to hearing the sound of the bike. Cheers! ; )~
The Himalayan does liven up quite a bit more when you unplug the evap unit on the sump guard and of course you've got the power commander to add and with some more off-road suited tyres I bet the Himalayan would give the Honda a run for it's money as it was designed and built to cross the Himalayas...and that's friggin gnarly..I wouldn't want to do that on a 250 Honda ..I'm lucky enough to have both Honda and royal Enfield... what you do get with the Enfield is a great utilitarian bike that will carry a shed load of stuff safely from AtoB and it's proven it's worth time and time again.. I love both bikes , and yeah I use my Honda for single track and my Enfield for touring ...but the Enfield will do both . great vid.
They both do both! I’m touring off road with my CRF 250 Rally! On road I like something with a little bit more engine. With that said, I loved the Himalayan! And stated that over and over on the video! Lucky you that owns both! Cheers! ; )~
Rad Raven excelente canal. Off road, a CB 500x parece-me a opção certa.
Fantastic Comparision and like bollywood movie, music all over ;) I used Himalayan for 20 days in lower area of Himalaya, and it was mix of snow, 1 to 2 feet river crossings, bad roads, good roads and let me tell you, never ever i had any issue nor the bike went out of control. The bike is bit industrial and tractorist, but thats again good for long distance riders, you need just small tool box to fix anyting you face. With some 1000 dollors mods, the bike will take you anywhere you want to travel.
Hi, in Denmark I can buy a new Himalyan for €7600 or a slightly (450km) crf 250L for €6000. What do you recommend? Thanks for the nice and informative video 🙂
It really depends what you’re going to use the bike for. If you use it primarily on road, I would risk saying the Himalayan might be a smarter choice. If you’re focusing on off road, the 250L is superior. They both are very versatile bikes. One is a little more fun on road and the other one, off road. Go look at them, have a seat and go for a test ride and find out which you speaks to your heart!!! ; )~
Bom video Rad Raven!
Thumbs up for a great review Guys.Owning a 1150 GSA and looking at a smaller bike to do a lap of Oz soon I'm seriously looking at the Himalayan. After test riding one for a couple of hours it dawned on me that the Himalayan is a "mini" 1150 GSA. A "mini" all rounder. Perfect for leisurely exploring the back roads my home ( Australia ).
As soon as you leave tarmac, I can only see advantages on these lighter bikes!!! I have no doubt you will have a blast!!! Taking from my experience, coming from an Africa Twin myself, the only thing you’ll wonder is: why didn’t I think of this sooner?! Cheers! ; )~
@@RadRaven Spot on. I've already done extensive touring on my wife's "adventurised" XT250 and touring small is much more relaxing and enjoyable. It gives you time to look around and the ability to check out that gnarly sidetrack that you wouldn't take the big girl down lol. The 250 Rally was also on my list but the only drawback for me is the small tank size for a country the size of Australia with often hundreds of kms between fuel stops in the outback. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
So, you definitely know what I’m going on about! But many folks are still trapped in the big trail conundrum... hahaha! There’s a larger tank for the Rally by IMS... and it’s lighter then the original! Planing on grabbing one for mine. Add a rotopax on top of that, and the world is your oyster! Hahaha! But the Himalayan also has it’s charm!!! And it’s an awesome bike!!! Enjoy your trip outback! Cheers! ; )~
@@RadRaven For sure. Everyone needs to try it but as you know you have to go in with the right mindset and enjoy the experience and stay off the highways. Thanks for doing this. I had no idea there was so much great riding in Portugal. I have an Africa Twin but I’d like to switch to something smaller.
Thanks mate!!!

There’s way more and better riding then this in Portugal!!

I have a 2017 Rally. I love it ,but the RE is very cool too.
Same here. Really digged the Himalayan, but I'm sticking with the Rally!
Cheers! ; )~
I recently purchased the Rally, the Himalayan was the only other bike I was seriously considering. Each have definitely got advantages over the other. I think if the Himalayan had a six speed I would have got that instead, its seat, seat height with slightly better position topped with that chugging long stroke was really tempting.
A very nice review guys, Waiting for my Himalayan and cant wait
Thanks!
You’re going to love it!!!
Cheers! ; )~
Congrats Rad. Really cool review!
Thanks mate! Cheers!!! ; )~
What a great review with really nice editing and useful content. Both of these bikes interest me and it’s nice to find someone that calls each bike for what it really is and how it was intended.
Subscribed and best regards
Cheers mate! Thank you for the kind words!

Very nice comparison video. Cheers from India 🇮🇳😀

Excellent review and expert comparison. Very helpful thanks!
Cheers mate! Stoked you liked it!

For sure!!! The Himalayan is an amazing little bike!!!
Cheers! ; )~
Was just in Lisbon last week. Went to the Royal Enfield dealer and torn between the Himalayan or the Honda 300 rally. On Terceira lots of back roads.

Tested Re Himalayan last week and unfortunately i had to get off it after 10 mins due to vibrations. Loved the seat and comfy upright position though, but vibrations through pegs, handle bar and tank killed it for me though.
The one I teste didn’t have many vibration problems...
super perpect video! thank you for you guys:D

Fun video! What seat do you have on the Honda and how does the seat compare in comfort to the Himalayan's?
Thanks!
It’s a Seat Concepts! It’s way better then Stock seat!

very good, I can see how good it is to put foot on the ground easier, I had Ténéré 250, and I have 1.87 MTS, but already it falls because it does not support the weight of the bike or foot to reach the ground ... hugs
Yeah, having a lower bike can really help boost your confidence!

I just found your channel. Great content and this is just what I was looking for. Do you think there's a massive difference to the results of you replace the CRF 250 with the new CRF 300 Rallye?
Loved those roads near Lisbon. Must come and ride them!
Good to know you found us and you liked the content.
I believe the 300s are a step in the right direction and there are definitely more differences then meet the eye!

which is best for long ride?
Depends on how you like to ride...
There is no simple answer to that question.
You should try both and decide for yourself, which one puts a bigger smile on your face. That will be the one that will travel the nicest, for you!
I opted for a CRF 250 Rally for my long off road travels, but I prefer a bigger bike, when I’m traveling on tarmac only.
I really liked both bikes!!!
Good luck on your quest!

It is a really cool bike! I loved it!!!
; )~
Jose Mendonca
RE Himalayan is best for long ride?
They're making one with 650cc
Parabéns, um vídeo incrível de assistir!!!
Obrigado! Abraço! ; )~
Beautiful, gotta go there soon.....

Great piece of work. well done :-)
Thanks mate! ; )~
I've been looking at the CB500X, but now starting to lean towards the CRF250 Rally. Exploring the countryside in New Zealand is perfect for it. What is the music you used in the video? Thanks for producing a superb review on these bikes.
Sorry for the ultra late reply… 🙈
It was music for a royalty free library.
Thank you!! 🙏🙏
@@RadRaven after all that, I bought a Royal Enfield Himalayan. Still got it and love it. Few vids on my channel.

Thank you so much!! 🙏🙏

Sorry for the late reply...
I’m afraid I don’t think there are any specific exhausts for the Rally that have EU homologation...
@@RadRaven that's what I suspected. Thanks!
Parabéns, ótimo vídeo!
Obrigado! Abraço! ; )~
Please drop both bikes and see which one comes out with less damage. I hope the CRF250L as it's supposed to be a much more offroad-oriented bike! I think everyone would love some true offroad videos as well! (Sand, dirt, very uneven terrain at both low and high speeds).
I don’t own a RE... but here’s an off road video with my CRF 250 Rally:
ua-cam.com/video/J_EMfYV3unY/v-deo.html
Many more on the way!
; )~
Hey mate, great video. Just interested to know what bikes you've owned in the past? Have you had lots of more powerful road stuff? e.g. a naked 650
Racism against Indians seems to be very OK and not a problem for most people I’ve seen.
Sorry… we meant no disrespect!

@arj I’m sorry… we meant no disrespect! 🙏🙏🙏
I really had trouble fitting on the bike and we came to a rushed conclusion, but with no racism intent whatsoever!
My apologies if I offended you!

Please let me know the name of the song that plays at the end ? What group?
Sorry mate... I edited this quite a while ago...
These songs are picked from a library we have rights to use for Social Media... I have no clue what band or song name it is...
Sorry!
Muito boa sua matéria, muito boa mesmo !
Great review, absolutely in love with the Himalayan which is more dual-sport than the 250 Rally, once I'll have finished university and maybe after having found a work, surely I will start thinking of buying it. By the way, great english man, understood literally everything and the pronounciation is very good, good job :D

Pelo menos até ver... 🤷♂️
Nice vid, thanks!
Very, very smart choice!!!
Cheers!!! ; )~
Awesome review.
Cheers! ; )~
Rad Raven thank you for taking the time to reply , I’ll get googling !
Which one costs more, please answer (we dont get the crf250L nor the rally here in india)
The CRFs are more expensive... the Himalayan has a great price!

What sort of speed will either of these hold comfortably on the highway please?
110/120 km/h...
Rad Raven thanks
Great vid! Been waiting for this himalyan and rally face off for a while 👌
Just my 2 cents...
; )~
grate video really enjoyed this
Cheers! ; )~
Great review, but honestly, I think the music is distracting. The sound of the bike alone is enough background when you`re talking about the bike.
Thanks! And thank you for the honest feedback.
Some people praise the music... so, in the future, I think I’ll create a section, dedicated to hearing the sound of the bike.
Cheers! ; )~
Music is tacky
Agree.....
Off road, a CB 500x parece-me a opção certa.
; )~
Fantastic Comparision and like bollywood movie, music all over ;)
I used Himalayan for 20 days in lower area of Himalaya, and it was mix of snow, 1 to 2 feet river crossings, bad roads, good roads and let me tell you, never ever i had any issue nor the bike went out of control. The bike is bit industrial and tractorist, but thats again good for long distance riders, you need just small tool box to fix anyting you face.
With some 1000 dollors mods, the bike will take you anywhere you want to travel.
Great! Congratulations. Ótimo vídeo!
Obrigado! Abraço! ; )~
The CRF300L Rally will hit it just right. Thanks for the content!
Thanks!
Already waiting for mine! ; )~

I'll see if I can get a ride on Rally for comparison as it seems like a great bike with lots of accessories available. Yours looks well set up mate.
coobye yeah, make room for your body and get a Seat Concepts and it gets to be as comfortable as an Africa Twin!
