Great comparison video! I have never driven a GT3RS, but I recently upgraded from my 718 GT4 manual to a GT4RS. I thought I would miss the manual transmission, but the PDK is great! I'm loving the GT4RS, definitely needs an exhaust! Great video production. You guys deserve more views!
That’s awesome! The 718 GT4 is an incredible car in its own right and I agree that it’s best paired with the manual transmission. The PDK is unbelievable and definitely provides its own level of satisfaction. Enjoy the 4RS, it’s a really special car!
Your GT4RS “needs an exhaust”? My buddy has one and it’s without question one of the loudest stock Porsches I’ve even been in. You might need your hearing checked! 😂
@@thedudeabides1443 Maybe I have hearing damage from my old GT4 with a soul race x-pipe 😂. Honestly the induction noise from the GT4RS is loud when above 5k, but the factory exhaust with OPF filter leaves something to be desired with tone and a bit more volume.
I had a 991.1 RS from new and this summer took delivery of a GT4 RS. Unfortunately I couldn’t really keep both and realised that I wouldn’t be driving the 3RS as much as the 4RS is for me a better bet. A big part of that is the fact that it’s is far more compact on the road. Both great cars though and if I could have, I would have kept both.
8:13 no Caymans have a 50/50 weight distribution, it's closer to 45/55 front/rear, which is typical of a mid-rear engine car. 911 are closer to 40/60, but so is the c8 corvette z06, which is also mid-rear engine. All these cars are great examples as to why a 50/50 weight distribution is not perfect after all. Even the Mercedes AMG GTR is rear weight biased with a front-mid engine.
Nice review. Honest and you picked the right one at the end. 991.2 GT3 RS is the one to have. I prefer the exhaust sound in the GT variant cars. The GT4 RS is too raspy and loud. Many have complained about hearing loss due to the loudness in the cabin. It looks better than the GT4 RS which I know is subjective. Rear wheel steering, the more aggressive aero plus the rear engine weight make it much faster on the track with an experienced driver at the wheel. GT4 RS is the collectors car. No more will be made as the mid engine design is soon to be electrified. Cars with Luke also did has a similar comparison. He bought and sold his GT4 RS to get back into a GT3 RS.
Thank you! And yeah I agree. I personally don’t mind the loudness, it’s quite extreme, but doesn’t offer the same refined tone of the 3RS. I’ll probably end up with another GT3RS at some point.
My GT3 exhaust hurt my ears more than my 4RS intake does. Not all decibels are created equal. Frequency actually means something. Get a ride in one and see for yourself how loud it is and don’t just repeat the mantra. It’s actually quite intoxicating. And yes noise sensitive and prefer a factory GT3 muffler with just side pipes. That’s all I can handle
Great video. If you’re keeping the 4rs I would definitely get an OAP and Rear exhaust. I got the Kline inconel love the sound and you gain some med torque. Still can hear the intake sound from inside.
@@AerialAutomotive Thanks for the reply and info! I am over in the four corners near Durango which is great for driving through passes but less so for places to work on the car. Thanks again!
I have a GT4 RS and my GT3 RS is the new 992. I also have a 992 GT3 (manual) and a 992 GT3 Cup car (race car)...and a Macan S that will soon be upgraded to a Cayenne Turbo GT. I'm looking forward to the 992 GT2 RS. I love Porsche!
Amazing collection! Which ones do you like best? I’m a tall guy (6’4”) so thinking I should go the 911 route. Going to do a mix of street (75%) and track (25%). 992 GT3 best?
@parallax8 If I had to choose one it would be my manual 992 GT3. Nothing like rev'ing it to 9,000 and then throwing that stick into the next gear! Edit: That said, my 992 GT3 RS is highly refined badassness and my GT4 RS is a raw, low-geared, loud af puppy that just wants to play! They are all fantastic in their own way.
@AerialAutomotive I agree on the 997.2 GT3 RS. I had one at an amazing price, I didn't pull the trigger, and then it nearly doubled! Oh well. Perhaps I'll look for one again.

Hey. Thank you for the great review. I just got an allocation and I am building my GT4 RS -- I don't see many without the Weissach package. Do you ever regret it, perhaps for resale?
Just came to your channel and THANK YOU for actually owning the car you review. So many poser videos taking cars on test drives with copycat reviews. Tiresome. Great video.
Mate!! Watching from Australia 🇦🇺 Really, really good review/comparison. Great answer to the biggest question. Thank you and well done. 👍🏻 That’s a sub from me.
Great review! Throw SOUL competition headers, over axel pipes and the non valved race exhaust on your 4RS and then do another review. It'll unleash that 4.0 flat six and boost mid range power significantly. Also sounds bonkers! I can't get enough of mine. Might be a bit biased but I think it's one of the best drivers car ever.. Cheers and enjoy your whip!
Haha yeah the 4RS with a full exhaust is definitely a different beast. I wish I could do something to the equivalent of a rear muffler bypass like I had on my previous GT3RS. But it seems with the Cayman you really need to do those over-axel pipes along with rear muffler. Again, both cars are magnificent in their own regard. Glad you enjoyed the video!
imo the 991.2 GT3 RS looks MUCH better than the 992 GT3 RS. The 991.2 looks more like the OG while the 992 focuses too much on being a borderline street legal race car
Haha absolutely! It’s definitely thrilling. Maybe a little too loud for my personal tastes. My former GT3RSs had rear muffler bypass exhausts. The Cayman sounds extremely unique in comparison!
Great review, both cars are outstanding and as you rightly said its an apples and oranges, blondes or brunettes comparison. I prefer the 991.2 GT3 RS because it has bit more mongrel in it. But equally I can see why someone would prefer the mid-engine balance of the GT4 RS. I happen to own three mid-engined cars a 981 GTS, 720S and 296 GTB; all are special in their own different ways but the one that always moves me the most is the 991.2 GT3 RS - Porsche hit out the park with that model. Any of the modern GT cars are outstanding a big step change between the 997 and 991 - 991 911R, 991.2 GT3 touring, 991.1 GT3 RS, 991.2 GT3 RS, 992 GT3, 982 GT4 RS, 982 Spyder RS and 992 GT3 RS.
Thank you! I’m in total agreement. Awesome collection of cars btw! I’ve had the opportunity to drive many of the modern supercars when I worked at a Lamborghini dealership a couple years ago. The Porsche GT cars were always the most engaging and emotional to drive. I think the only car that matches that thrill is the Aventador SVJ, but even that has many drawbacks when comparing it to the modern Porsche RS cars.

If only I fit in a GT4 / RS or Boxster Spyder. Don’t know how tall you guys are but … I can squeeze in, but it’s just not comfortable with the mid engine bulkhead right behind the seats, since front leg room and recline is restricted. Not sure if the GT3 RS roll cage adds restrictions or not. PS Well done review / video
That’s a good point! The 3RS is a little more spacious, however those Carbon Buckets don’t recline either haha. I’d say the 3RS is the luxury model of the two, but I’d be lying. Thank you!

4RS exhaust doesn’t make a sound that you can hear from the cabin and for good reason. Its frequency of the intake is tuned to my soul. 3 RS sounds better for those outside the cabin. 4RS is built for the driver!
The GT4RS actually has a longer wheelbase than the 911 GT3's...the statement made in the video about the GT4RS having a shorter wheelbase is not correct. There is a minimal difference in overall size and wheelbase, but the wheelbase is about 1 inch shorter on the GT3, but the GT4RS is about 4.5 inches shorter overall.
Good question! I wanted to try the GT4RS platform. I’ve owned two 991.2 GT3RSs and put collectively over 50,000 miles on that chassis. I figured the mid-engine Cayman would be fun to try.
