    This video shows how I made the wooden band saw I designed. It's a 12" model, and that means the wheels are 12" in diameter. The max resaw capacity is 7-1/4". It uses an 80" blade. The motor I used is a 1 hp induction motor that runs at 1725 rpm. The pulley ratio is 2:1 with the lower wheel running at half the motor speed.
    The unique feature is the quick release tensioner. With a simple flip of a lever it releases the tension on the blade.

    • @mpetersen6
      @mpetersen6 2 роки тому +1

      Twice motor speed. Are you sure it's not 50% of motor speed? Other wise that blade is motoring along at 5400 ft/min

      Well I watch the hole video and you talk explaining what you keep on working but if the video talk about the measures I will see it again but the answer that I read said that the video had the measures. John i will like to buying the plans for the band saw . I’m very sorry but when i check the notes i wrote i see i start reading before sending the question and i find out that i start talking about one thing and then switch to another thing. But saying again i just want to do it’s buying the plans. Thanks you again.

      Will you be releasing plans for this bandsaw..? It'd be great to see them in Imperial, and in Metric for those of us across, well, all the oceans.. ;)
      I envision the space taken up by my current POS bandsaw being filled with a far better unit, in the subtle and natural tones of 'plywood'..
      cheers for the wonderful and detailed video.. as usual :)

    So many signature John Heisz moves here-- this is like an I Build It Essentials video that shows a whole lot of little bits of a lot of what you do. It would be really awesome to see a full, long-form three-part series of how you make these videos: I - Conception, II - Filming & Building, III- Editing. This video is a perfect model for what videos on UA-cam could be. I'm not sure if people realize the full scope of what goes into all of this. So cool, and thanks for all that goes into this

      What's even more amazing is that he used his self built table saw. It's really cool to see him using the tool he built, many UA-camrs throw away stuff they build and use commercial ones.

    Interesting build. My grandfather was an avid woodworker and out of economic necessity, built an 18 inch wooden band saw in the 1950's. Both my father and I used it for many years, until I finally disassembled it the 90's in favor of a more rigid cast iron machine.

    John, you really shine on this audio/video and build. So sweet are those carefully constructed, adjustable and fixed, components that make a band saw a BAND SAW. All amazingly simplified for folks like myself to want to believe I could make one also. Top flight job all the way around. I know you gotta be beside yourself with internal joy that your design functions like a dream machine.

    Nicely done John. As a builder of your box-joint jig, I can say you've outdone yourself on this one. It's a bit of a disappointment that you won't be making plans for it. I built Matthias's big saw and, though very capable, I find it to be bulkier than I really need. If you change your mind, I'll be building this.

    My father built a huge one that can cut 18 inches wide. I was around 6.5 feet tall and 3 feet wide. I saw it has a brush beside the wheels to keep the dusts off and he used bearing as a blade guide instead of wood because friction on wood can heat up the blade adding to the heat that it creates during cutting, thus shortening the life of the blade.
    What I like about this build is that the table top can tilt up to 45 degree and can be used for small projects. My father's is only for cutting huge ones..
