I just want to say thank you so much again for making another update on your progress. For me I’m not sure what’s going on every day is totally different just like you. I have the exact same things happen to me when I lay down either my legs will go completely numb or my hands will go completely numb or my entire arm will go completely numb. I went and saw my surgeon yesterday and I have been directed to go see a neurologist and a rheumatologist.

Thank you for sharing. Thank you for being vulnerable with us to share these things. You’re not alone. ♥️ Also, I have finger/whole hand numbness AND toe numbness. Thanks for the vids and updates. i just had my level 4 ACDF C3-C7 nine days ago. so far the worst pain was swallowing and throat irritations. i stopped taking pain meds (tylenol with codeine) on day five. haven't slept through the night since surgery and i see no end in sight. so weird i have to move every 30 mins or an hour to a different recliner, couch, bed etc. wearing the neck brace 24/7 is a pain but i want to heal properly. thanks again for your vids.

So pleased to have an update from you. I had my surgery over a month ago and things went well. The hard part is recovery and wanting to heal instantly because I am independent. I have muscle aches ( jumping) and some numbness that aggravates me at times. I hope you won't need additional surgery or at least for a while down the road. @@yvonnetracey8381 Thank you for asking. I had surgery 11/22/21. Four weeks off of work has been assessed now, to be an integral decision. (I have a stressful job) I successfully returned to work. I am much, much, better now, however pain is higher than I would prefer. The biggest and most troublesome malady is that I still have not recovered my voice. I have a loud raspy whisper at best. It's been hard since I talk so much for my work. (Social Worker). The doctor says that my voice issue is not uncommon, but it is being monitored as the weeks turn into months. The "afraid" has gotten better, but has also led to me stopping myself in the middle of starting to do something and realizing I am way past the "safe" zone as to the task, and remind myself of my limitations. Also, incision scar is more like three and a half inches, not the one to two I was told. But it's healing amazingly. How about yourself?

Hi Kim. I am currently experiencing numbness and tingling sensation in my hands, weakness in arms, and imbalance. All diagnosed for cervical stenosis which is the narrowing of the spinal canal and compression on the spine. Undergoing a laminoplasty procedure next month to provide relief. Comparing this to a laminectomy, I feel it is a less extensive procedure as it is going to maintain a greater degree of the bone structure, as it will expand the space affecting the spine and nerves. As I understand it, the laminectomy will remove part of the structure between the lamina and replace it with a plate which might include fusion. I also prefer the laminoplasty, as in my opinion will provide a greater degree of mobility in the long term. I am in my early 60s and extremely active, so the ability to maintain this style is really important at this junction. Hoping you are able to make the best decision whichever that may be, and best of luck.

I'm in tears cause I can relate so much to what you've been going thru, I'm much older and have been suffering for so many years now it's finally gotten to the point living my life of solitude in excruciating pain that I need to take the plunge! I'm gonna have a disk replacement, C3-4 towards the end of March 2022 at the Tampa VA. They wanted to do a fusion 10-12 years ago and I'm glad that I opted out of that because from what I understand a disk replacement is so much better, range of motion, fewer complications down the road and so on and so forth. What I would give for just one night of good sleep pain free! I'm still pretty active though even at my age considering the circumstances but I can't take the pain anymore and my spinal cord is literally scaring so bad it's time. Hi Kim, thank you for sharing your journey. I recently had cervical surgery for what was supposed to be 2 level ACDF and turned into a corpectomy (removal of the vertabrae) while on the operating table. I had similar issues with my hands. Same issues with those two fingers. Yes, I understand the "just weird feeling" and I also don't understand the explanations they try for giving the finger problems, leg and feet pain and/or numbness and their not being able to e plain why some issues are still there. My surgery was 7 months ago and I am a lot better than before surgery, but I am still always dealing with my neck, shoulders etc. And wondering if things are getting worse. Anyway, thank you for being positive and sharing your journey it helps when you know there are others who have the same issues and you are not flung crazy. I''ve been treating a C6/7 herniated disc conservatively for the past 6 months. I also had numb legs some months ago. I believe is due to the inflammation compressing the spinal cord. I could barely walk. I was sent for a full MRI of my spine. Not kidding you; no sooner did I come out; the neurosurgeon was already looking at my MRI. Kim, from your description of numbness in your pinky and ring finger it appears as if you have a herniated c7 t1 disc that is compressing your c8 nerve root I have the same issue with tingling in my right hands pinky and ring finger because of a herniated c7 t1 disc. I believe you mentioned that when you lie down you intermittently have numbness in your legs I don't have numbness in my legs but I have a constant tingling in each of my left and right feet I believe it's from the same c7 t1 disc that not only is herniating through the right foramen but also posteriorly into the spinal cord. The fact that the numbness in your legs occurs when you're lying down probably has to do with gravity I know it sounds too simplistic but the integrity of your c7 t1 disc could lead to sporadic herniation posteriorly into your spinal cord when you lie down quite simply from gravity's pull on that disc. I've been dealing with two traumas to my cervical spine from ice hockey injuries over the past two years and even though I'm certainly not a doctor I've been consumed by learning as much about my cervical spine as possible because my life has been disrupted so dramatically. The biggest issue I have with neurologists and orthopedic spine surgeons is that many of them don't consider the unique circumstances of each patient suffering with cervical spine trauma I wish you all the best if you have any questions please let me know

Hi it's me Lisa remember I had my surgery and OMG the muscle spasms for first three days were horrible horrible horrible then the fourth day got better in the 50 got better and it keeps getting better but I still have little pains in my shoulders and around my neck but not bad at all the worst thing is the freaking neck brace I hate it I take it off at home I sleep with it at night which is the worst of the worst but tomorrow is my first pre-op appointment with my primary doctor and then on June 1st I have my x-rays and that will determine if I can take the stupid collar off but I'm sorry to hear about whatever it is that you're going through you're so pretty and have a big smile you keep that smile and remember God is with you through it all I have to say I don't think I will get this done again unless my life depends on it cuz remembering the first day and the second is awful

Like you I seem to be like the 1% of people who end up with crazy surgeries. Any tips to avoid post surgery depression? I would say get a support system! Maybe therapy? I think my hardest thing was people that didn’t have the surgery telling me I was fine when they couldn’t be 100% sure. So I think connecting with people that had the surgery when I could tell them all the different feelings I was having they were tell me me too and they’re fine so that really seem to help me most. I worked asap. It helped to distract me. The quiet it what did me in. Lmk if you need to chat

Some people don’t understand that the cervical spinal cord actually does effect the legs and feet, too. They’re thinking about the nerves and where the roots come out and not the actual spinal Cord itself. And I was so active before, too. 😭

Hello Kim, We exchanged comments 6 months ago post my C3-C7 surgery. if you recall had the same exact surgery and curious if you have any numbing and pain in your shoulders, upper arms (biceps and triceps) as well as pain in your lower neck area? When I say “pain” it’s no where close to the pre surgery pain, more of a growing discomfort. I have had 2 post surgery meetings with my surgeon and he didn’t seemed alarmed or concerned. I need to have another X-ray to determine bone growth around the hardware fusion and plan to do that next week.
Have you had significant bone growth around your fusion? And are you experiencing any numbness or uncomfortable muscle pain?
Hope all is well for you, I really enjoy your blog and you have a great personality. Ever think about doing something professional around UA-cam?
    Thanks! Paul

I worry, too, that I'll lift or reach or twist some day and screw up. But you know it's not as simple as that. The more I read, the less likely I would get cervical fusion. NFL QB Peyton Manning had Laminectomy 2 times but still had no strength to throw. Then within a year had fusion surgery, and with tons of therapy, he won a SuperBowl again. These surgeries are not an exact science even with the best doctors, money being no object, and this guy is a highly tuned athlete, still isn't a smooth road for anyone.
