Because grevious's armor made him significantly taller then all jedi. In other words, it perpetually gave him the high ground.
Nic Long Grievous stands at almost 9 feet tall, and weighs around 350 pounds. I’m fairly sure his armor is LSRes, so his strength and stature become an even greater asset.
Wookiepedia says 7'1 and 350
Michael Morris
Still though, that's really tall. And Anakin still calls him short
Though he still lost to Obi-Wan because Obi-Wan has mastered the use of the high ground.

@@zacharyadler4071 Why didn't other Jedi use Force push, or telekinetically hurl large objects at Grievous, or any number of other things? Because of the script. It's inconceivable that NO ONE before Mace Windu would successfully use the Force against Grievous.
@@TJ347 Lol, force isnt that strong. Else you could also say " why didnt obi wan end the war on nabuu?" i mean, all the enemies were droids. He could just force push them
Idk, aside from augmenting their lightsaber combat most Jedi have never really used the force offensively until they are backed into a corner right? I can't see many of the Jedi that were alive during Grievous's time as being very skilled against the lightsaber forms grievous was taught or even combat against lightsabers or the sith in general as they had only just revealed themselves to the republic after being gone for a very long time. Mace Windu did in fact seem like the exception to those rules, his descisive use of force crush on Grievous collasped one of his lungs leaving his respiratory system crippled at best which in many people's opinion played a critical role in his fall from Grace up until his eventual defeat by Obi wan. All the circumstances leading up to his death check out in my opinion, as a personal fan I would have preferred to see grievous visciously fighting jedi in top form rather than the weakend, fearful state he seemed to have in the movie but beggars can't be choosers.

Sadly most of Grievous' kills aren't canon anymore. And his most prized kill, Master Adi Gallia, was retconned away and given to Savage Opress.
His most prized kill now is mother talzin who
He didn't kill her...that was Old Daka I believe...
He killed Talzin in the canon comic: Son of Dathomir

o sorry ;p
I want to know what exactly Sidious thought of Grievous. Grievous killed more Jedi than Dooku, Ventress or Maul plus was a great tactician and naval commander so he has to have some respect.
Frothy Walrus He would probably still not like him too much based on some "he doesn't have a true connection to the force" and "he's not a real man any more more" malarky
But he had a great respect for Thrawn, not as a warrior but a military leader. Grievous was a great military leader plus a kickass Jedi killer and duelist close to or on par with his own Apprentices like Maul and Dooku. I think Grievous could've been a dadass Sith Lord had he been force sensitive.
Frothy Walrus
Oh he definitely would have. He was a legendary warrior and leader on his planet. He was considered a God.
Frothy Walrus well yea Grevious was Dooku's heavy so Dooku wouldn't have to engage in a battle often so yes he did all the work but didn't get enough credit for it
Frothy Walrus Grievous was made to look like shit in RotS but in the Clone Wars (2008) and the 2003 version he was a major badass.

General Grievous was a great character design that could have been one of the scariest characters in the SW Universe but got ZERO character development in the films and was instead really just another toy to sell from the movie.
That’s not the case. Even if it was, why make his character design so complex? It’s harder to make him a toy that way. General Grievous served an important role in the movies.

Personally, I've always been fascinated by Grievous as a character. Genuinely amazing character as a whole that was a stroke of Genius for the franchise to introduce. The first time I saw him introduced during a brief battle scene in the 2D Clone Wars series, I was absolutely blown away and instantly wanted to know more. The lack of force-wielding was something that every other fan ever seems to have bemoaned (understandably so) as a huge weak point. But the same can be said of Cad Bane in reality. To me, the fact that these sorts of characters can both engage and either defeat or hold their own against force-wielders is all the more badass.
Maybe it's partially the tech nerd kid in me that will always love to see a cybernetic creature stand apart from the rest. Or maybe it's the love of an imposing physique and the rush of seeing a character that can intimidate with simply a glance that fascinates me. But either way, the intense movements and the insane power behind Grievous are what makes the character for me. Yes, he's purposely a coward and absolutely arrogant enough to believe that it's his military genius and not Palpatine's which has forced the Republic into a corner throughout the entirety of the war. But in the end, he'll always be a character that I love just for the fact that he is just so damn cool.

Ok never mind.
I really did enjoy The Clone Wars (2008) but I think that they were not really consistent with Grievous' character in comparison to Legends. In the earlier seasons of the Clone Wars Grievous was getting defeated by gungans, yet in the Son of Dathomir comics he beats Maul easily, in Crystal Crisis he beats Obi-Wan easily, in Dark Disciple he beats Ventress despite losing to her previously on the show, etc. Still a great show and a great character in my opinion, but the 2003 version will always be my favorite.
The Iron Maiden I feel like they didn't show that because they hated to show the good guys losing. Watching the 2010 version kinda makes you think why they didn't win the war sooner.
There’s a reason that legends is legends, and canon is canon
Canned Bread a reason of date, this is a bad reason
What?
I do love Grievous’ Legends version. The good thing is, many of his kills can be counted as canon due to the fact that they do not contradict the canon storyline. But canon Grievous has a much better voice. His 2003 voice was bland and unremarkable in my opinion, just a random dude with a robotic effect applied to his voice. That was a big problem with the 2003 Clone Wars: the voice acting was kind of boring. Nobody had a distinctive voice other than the main characters. Even the clones were relegated to a random guy with an American accent.
This turned into a rant about the voice acting of the 2003 Clone Wars series, so I’ll just end this here.
Think how easily Grievous would have been defeated if Jedis would just use force against him. But they dont use it because otherwise Grievous would be offended because he cant use the force.

Mlg Sty A lesson for the jedi, in a war as a guardian of your government and the only quick options to defeat an enemy is darker tactics, use the dark, you can console yourself by those you saved by your horrible actions, and sacrifice your mental innocence for those lives, that should be the way when a jedi is in war. Using fear and anxiety to overwhelm the emotions of a Jedi, weakening their connection to the force, is something similar to what Atton mentions in Kotor2. He spoke of how the best way to kill a Jedi wasn't to fight them them physically, but mentally. By focusing your mind on complex and strong emotions it becomes harder for a Jedi to use the force against you, to read your motives, and may even cause their morals to leave them open as well. Grievous does a similar tactic, but rather than HIS emotions being the dampener it's the Jedi's he targets. It's for this very reason that Grievous couldn't hope to defeat a competent Sith, as they draw their power from emotions. What hinders a Jedi would make a Sith stronger. Instilling fear would instead instill anger, the driving force behind most Sith.
On another note I still enjoy, even if it's not a part of the Disney Canon, that the first time I witnessed Grievous take any substantial amount of damage it was at the hands of Mace Windu utilizing one of the strongest Dark Side force powers. Force Crush OP, plz don't nerf.
What if violent- or heavier emotions- could be weaponized and poison that of a Jedi’s? What if it became a technique for Possession?
Flowey the Funposter Its almost as if the Sith built a monster whose weakness only they could exploit, isn't it ? The Jedi are not the only ones capable of great subtlety.

Legends grievous is the only grievous.
Yes, it is The Jedi Mentality but also Grevious 's fighting style . He is not just fast but extremely strong. Jedi fighting him will have to exhaust all their force reserves to hold against his assault lacking any energy to use the force. There also Grevious's tactics, engage tired and exhausted Jedi rather than fresh ones. He uses the unorthodox to confound jedi . He is weak against Jedi masters of High caliber such as Obi wan, Yoda, Mace windu, Plo koon, Shaak Ti.
Dulio Gesualdo, exactly. Master Kit Fisto almost bested Grevious using Shii-Cho, which is the simplest lightsaber form.

What would have happened if Obi-Wan didn't discover Kamino? The Clone Army was still being made for the Republic but the Kaminoans seemed perfectly happy to wait for the Jedi to collect them instead of just giving them a call.
Iirc the Jedi were internally drawn to that world through Jango.
General Greivous is by far one of my favorite characters, it's such a shame that the now cannon versions don't give him justice.
Honestly Grievous was a disappointment. The best version is still the animated white cloaked one is still the most bad ass. The movie version never lived up to that.
koopa159 yea I watched the original Clone wars cartoon the other day and Yea he was scary and crazy as fuck, I really wish the movies put more of a spotlight on him especially the clone wars

in clone wars he used fear tactics... in the 08 one he didn't
Grievous in clone wars was scary bro
The Jedi constantly used the Force against Grievous. It's why so many fans were offended that Grievous was "weakened" in canon. If you watch every single Grievous episode of Clone Wars, the same episodes that people claimed showed Grievous as a "weak coward", Obi Wan, Kit Fisto or even Asajj Ventress would knock his ass around with the force and he'd either run away knowing he had no true counter or he'd call on reenforcements to break up the duel. It's why I will always debate anyone saying Grievous was ruined. As mentioned in this video, even in the original Clone Wars cartoon his serious weakness against the force was shown when he was literally owned by the squeeze of Windu's hand. This was the exact same in the later Cartoon series. He could practically go blow for blow with any force user in terms of lightsaber dueling but he was completely outmatched when facing a skilled and talented Jedi who could use the force and duel at the same time. Grievous was just smart enough to retreat when outmatched.
I truly think if you look at it as a whole you see what Grievous was. Early on he was a Jedi killer. In the original Clone Wars we were suppose to be seeing the Jedi's first encounter with Grievous. They really didn't know his strengths and weaknesses. I think the more the Clone Wars went on and the Jedi received more information on Grievous, they began analyzing him and finding out his strengths and weaknesses. This is why he was super successful at the beginning of the war, slaying quite a few Jedi but why midway through the war Dooku and Sidious would question his effectiveness and lead Jedi to his hiding place. There were literally countless examples of Grievous outmatching skilled duelists just to get hit with force powers and be rendered virtually useless in the fight. It was literally his only weakness, however a pretty significant weakness once the Jedi figured it out. I think the only real difference between the two "different" Grievous' is just how much the Jedi knew about them. The OP Grievous was when he was first unleashed against the Jedi. The Grievous we see in the Clone Wars series is Grievous after he's well known among the Jedi. He's no longer a complete terrifying mystery. Instead he's seen as a brutal enemy who is an elite lightsaber duelist but who has a major weakness.
Blah blah blah blah stop bitching

If Grevious internal organs weren't damaged by Mace Windu as he left Corusant with the then Sentor Palpatine he'd stand a much greater chance against Obi Wan. Grevious was at a literal crippling handicap during his first and last first with Obi Wan at least in the original cannon.
@@BlahBohogun I really want to know how damaging the internal organs of a cyborg like greivious stops his robotic body from working as well as it did when he crushed several Jedi masters.
Because it is a cyborg. The biological brain is the one that handles the robotic body. It has the most essential organs to keep said brain fed and working.
Once the internal organs were damaged, its brain and presence of mind are diminished.
The video: Why nobody used the force on grievous
Obi-Wan: Hello there.
Honestly, a lot of your theories on this make sense. HOWEVER, I like to think that a lot of the reason for the Jedi not using force powers on Grievous was simply due to arrogance and pride. They knew him as an expert duellist and Jedi-killer and wanted to defeat him on his own terms and thus prove themselves to be better than him. By the time that they realised that Grievous outclassed them it was far too late to adapt the force into the fight, as they were on the defensive and fighting for their life.
I'm a coward, so if I ever found myself against him, I would crush his legs and arms to leave him unable to fight, or get away. I would NOT care if I even had the ability to fight him with my lightsaber, I would be better safe than sorry.
Um.... If I heard there was a cyborg running around with 4 lightsabers specifically made to fight jedi and has killed many in the past I really don't think that I would underestimate him. Why bother letting him continue to kill more jedi and possibly myself, especially when many of the jedi he targeted were not too strong. This is just really stupid.
That is a good theory. Jedi are very arrogant
It was just plot
The fact that Dooku told him to use fear leads me to believe it holds more water than this.
I know it's a little out there but what if grevious was a republic General instead of separatist
scientists will design similar warriors and they'll tell the Jedi that they can continue being peace keepers

I don't care what anyone says. The first Clone Wars series was the best one, and it had the perfect lead up to ROTS.
The 2008 Clone Wars was cancelled before it could reach that time period. They would’ve gone all the way up to Order 66 if they could’ve, but CN cancelled the show for some stupid reason.
I don’t remember a single character from the 2003 Clone Wars other than Grievous and Fordo that became notable. Nobody in that series has any personality other than the main characters. I’m not saying the series is bad, but it isn’t better than 2008. The Clone Wars had substance. It had a powerful story. We followed a squad of clones from training until death, as they are picked off one by one until only a single trooper remains. We watched Anakin turn closer and closer to the dark side. We got into the minds of minor characters who used to be nothing but background props for the MC, and we got to know them. We got a dozen or more excellent characters from that show, who didn’t appear anywhere else until then. Ventress, Ashoka, Rex, Savage. We got some of the best stories in the entire Star Wars saga. Do you still think 2003 was better?
Bookhead714 Yes. I do think that the 2003 one is vastly superior. The 2008 one is an overrated and childish kids show. You're acting like character development was invented by the 2008 clone wars or something while it's actually in ever narrative driven or writing based story that includes characters. Just because it developed characters doesn't mean it did it well. Also the 2008 clone wars got 8 seasons while the 2003 series was two movies in total 2:12:00 long or something like that. You can't hab the same development and introdiction of characters in two one hour movies as you can with 8 SEASONS OF A TV SHOW.
Ugga Ugmob Childish? Have you watched the show? It can be truly brutal at times. Id say it's more childish to have single jedi crush entire droid armies.
Veratikon I have watched the show, it does become less childish as time goes on but the first 3 - 4 seasons were tough to sit through. I don't think that it's childish that a Jedi can crush an entire army of droids either, however I do think it's over the top and a bit too much, I think it was just an artistic choice to demonstrate their power since the movies were short. Also since it was a 2d animated show it just made it more interesting and fun. It's a personal preference really.
@@veratikon7882 why yes ruining legends canon, resurrecting maul for no reason, making Grevious job to gungans, and skipping over all of Anakins development over the clone wars is truly the hallmark of good and mature writing
What if Anakin never force choked Padme? I would love if you did this Star Wars Theory!
Awesome video, and all good points.
But I think you forgot one very important factor: Grevious is massive! (insert lenny face). He's at least twice the size of most Jedi and entirely made out of a powerful, probably highly dense metal! I'd say he was to weigh around half a ton at least. And you don't just force lift half a ton without deep concentration. If you where to try and grab just his arm or something, I'm also sure his immense strenght would just nullify it.
Even then, if his weight wasn't enough, he can just grab on to the ground like you mentioned.
On a related note, since he has no connection to the force, wouldn't he have been the ultimate opponent for Darth Nihulus? With his force drain being useless and his mediocre dueling skill I'm sure Grevious would have killed him easily where even someone like Yoda would have had trouble. But I've never seen anyone discuss this...
The Moe Szyslak Experience feat. Homer in the words of yoda to Luke when attempting to lift an x-wing Size matters not. Look at me.
Judge me by my size, do you?
Hm? Mmmm. So size and weight shouldn't be a factor here
That was just an expression :P Otherwhise I guess Jedi can move planets as well? It's not that they couldn't lift Greivous if they concentrated really hard, it's that there's a difference between moving a tiny rock and a massive 500 kilo cyborg trying to kill you. To move heavy things, Jedi need concentration, focus and a clear mind. Grevious breaks those things before he attacks.
According to wookiepidia grievious only weighed 350 pounds and an x-wing weighs around 12000 pounds so.....if yoda when's dying can easily lift an x-wing that's submerged under a swamp(making it weigh more) a Jedi even under not ideal conditions should be able to lift grievous
"Only" 350 pounds. That's still really damn heavy. Most Jedi would need full focus to even lift a human. And you can't use freaking Yoda as a prime example, that's dumb. He's possibly the most powerful Jedi in all of Star Wars. Of course he can take out Grevious. Even Windu could easily crush him when Grevious had his guard down.
But for most knights or even masters, you don't just casually move a finger and ragdoll 350 pounds (and if he grabs the ground, make that like 1000 more pounds). Especially if you're spirit is broken like we saw in Clone Wars.
The question isn't, "can a Jedi lift 350 pounds?". It's "can a jedi lift 350 pounds when being hit by 20 strikes/second?"
The Moe Szyslak Experience feat. Homer using yoda is kinda cheating I'll give you that lol. But in the end the question comes down to which variant of the force are we "arguing" about. Book force(legends) where it's a lot more powerful all around and jed/sith were very powerful or canon Force where it's been powered down significantly to make for a better plot device then all powerful "force"
When everyone on Reddit is using the same meme format
"Quit using standard attacks, use the unorthodox"
Obi-Wan used force push on Grevious during the battle on Utapau, though it took considerable effort. Grevious had been conditioned to resist force abilities to a certain extent.
What if the Yuuzhan Vong invaded during the Clone Wars?
Luke Munoz wow that's a great idea one the best
Luke Munoz Just like how the new republic wasnt ready to face them, the galactic republic and the seperatists will be caught off guard especially after being battered by their still ongoing war against each other.
Khalduras you are the first one to say that. Every other person says "defoliator" or "the Republic and CIS form an alliance to beat the Vong"
Luke Munoz Them forming an alliance may actually be a thing but i doubt that would be enough. What it all comes down to is how the jedi council and Sidious react to this. I can imagine Windu holding his fucking ground, same goes for Sidious but i doubt the rest of the council minus Yoda might fare well
Khalduras fare well*
When Grievous was being turned into a cyborg they transfused Sifo-Dyas' blood with his.Though Grievous could not use the force I think having the midi-chlorians from Sifo-Dyas' blood in him would enhance his abilities in addition to everything that was stated in the video.
Fearless Mando What's the source for that? It sounds really cool
I was gonna state my opinion about why the Jedi don't use the force, but it was the same as the video.
Stupendous Wave is good....very good.
Same lol.
This has been in my recommendations for weeks.
Grievous in the 2003 animated show was the best in my opinion. Silent, calculated and true to his origin story. He legitimately used fear to paralyze the force and his body was able to do some crazy maneuvers to get the edge on the Jedi as well as give him an extreme amount of speed. He also saved the reveal of his quad arms for the moment he first feels threatened. But in episode III and the 2008 show he’s just a wuss. He activates his quad arms immediately in both. You get the impression that he ran in the 2003 show to re-terrify his opponents and allow himself to engage them at a different angle, but in the movies and 2008 show they make him run because he’s a coward and wants to make off with his life, which is completely against the warrior code he honored on his home planet according to the comics. Basically, 2003 Grievous utilizes his unique body and uses guerrilla tactics to defeat Jedi, whereas movie and 2008 grievous just runs because he believes in “live to fight another day.”
So Lightsiders, when distressed, make them weaker. Against Anakin, it's not so easy--the most he'll do is just piss him off, and that'll work horribly against him (heck, the man fought Dooku to a stalemate in their last few duels before Episode 3)
This prick was lucky he never encountered him.
Not even. Anakin had a noticeable edge the second time they fought on Naboo.
I know! He had Dooku on the ropes and made the man sweat! He forced him to retreat, but he didn't manage to cut him either.
It's my favorite duel from the series honestly.
John Peacekeeper The 12 blows per second would have destroyed Anakin since his style is more offensive. Although the fear tactic would not work on Skywalker, Anakin's rush to angression would make him more vulnerableto blows. His style simply can't keep up with Grievous, which is why the council denied him from going to Utapau and sent Obi Wan. Yes he did defeat Dooku, but this is a case of rock, paper, scissors. Kenobi couldn't even keep up with the count but defeated Anakin. In fighting it's all about the match ups of techniques and strategies.
That being said, Anakin wouldn't hesitate to immediately incorporate Force Powers from the get-go, and by this point he's already started to master Force Choke.
Clearly the force wasn't strong enough to be used there
Super Vegito if any DBZ fighter was in this universe then the force would be nothing compared to a super Saiyan blue.
nobody in star wars would stand a chance against the majority of dbz characters.
he wasn't on guard. that's the only reason he got hurt by the laser don't be ridiculous. not only that but if any jedi or sith got caught off guard they would all be just as affected by a laser. if beerus and goku were to continue on punching they would've destroyed the universe, and that's not including his energy output.. you're taking goku when he was a kid and comparing what happened to him and saying that could still happen. that's like saying obi wan could've killed luke when he was a baby so it obviously means he could kill him now. your logic is trash. yea goku isn't all powerful but you're over hyping the characters of star wars immensely. the only thing that a star wars character could do would be force choke. and that's a pretty damn big maybe. the most absurd thing you claim is the most powerful SW characters could take any DB character. you would have to be an idiot to think any star wars character could defeat buu. nothing in any version of star wars has ever been shown with enough destructibility to kill buu. he is made up entirely of magic with no brain so you couldn't use to the force to control him in any way. your ignorance is painful. you have to take legends material to sound smart and even than nothing in legends could kill buu. NOTHING. and goku hasn't experience the force? that is true but the same could be said about star wars characters not experiencing ki. i wont even bother to mention their speed feets. goku is faster than light speed. saying they would just sit there while being choked is pathetic to say the least. yea because ofcourse they wouldn't fire an energy blast at there feet that would destroy a city. yet somehow your dumbass thinks that either A. that couldn't happen or B. they could stop it in their tracks or something silly like that. if you're not going to give any dbz character the benefit of the doubt with the force than you shouldn't do the same with star wars characters going up against ki. you're ignorance is painful.
i realize some of my mistakes but you're a fucking idiot if you think this.
i wouldn't be surprised if you said star wars characters could kill onslaught.
In the now uncanon 2003 clone wars, Grievous was force crushed in a hallway, and survived
The Niman lightsaber form used lightsaber strikes chained in with force attacks. However all the Niman practitioners at the Battle of Genoisis died. That could be why during the Clone Wars not many Jedi attacked Grievous with the Force.
Awesome video! :) I love your detailed explanation of Grievous' battle-tactics using fear and intimidation (weith details of how he did it by waiting out sieges and stalemates to what were mind-crushing points for his opponents) to undermine his Light Side opponents' connection to the Force so as to give him an advantage over his lack of Force-connection; combined with his cybernetics' enhanced durability and speed, plus the Jedi's lack of readiness to use the Force offensively gaainst him! It really is a nice explanation based on what's been seen in Canon and Legends media, concerning why the Force was barely ever used against Grievous and why he was such an effective Jedi-killer despite his lack of connection to the Force!
Very good! :)
This is why Grievous is my favorite Star Wars character of all time. Can we get an anthology film or a fan film or SOMETHING please? Like, come on, he's a legend.
this was always something i wondered thanks stupendous
but why was mace Windou able to crush his lungs was it because they weren't engaged in combat with each other?
ben rowell Windu is not someone you scare he's someone you ought to be scared of if you seriously want to fight him!
Darkwintre well, he is played by Samuel L. Jackson.
If the damage Windu inflicted on Grievous is canon then it's likely Yoda would have disarmed him with the force leaving him helpless!
Yoda literally resealed Separatist dropship then rammed them into each other removing cybernetic limbs without harming Greivious is the very least he can do!
ben rowell The distance was too great
Grievous got lucky Windu once lost his lightsaber forcing him to use his bare hands fortunately he's familiar with Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris!😉
Jedi had to concentrate in order to use the Force. It wasn't a fucking super power that they could throw out all Willy nilly. Note how Obi Wan force pushes Grievous in ROTJ. It takes him a moment of concentration. Or look how Yoda lifts the X-Wing in the Empire Strikes back. You can't just video game your way out of trouble with the Force.
Justin Weinzierl True, tho often writters fall into the temptation of depicting the Force as this magical superpower. The 2003 Clone Wars did this to a great extent.
BTW Obi-Wan fought Grievous in Revenge Revenge of the Sith, not Return of the Jedi ;-)
Miguel Pereira lol you're right. Can't tell if I was drunk or if my phone changed it lol
Rey could force lift half a mountain slide of rocks while chit chatting.
@@scottmurphy4946 Rey could also kill all the sith in one second, by stumbling over a rock... for the comedic effect, you know...
I enjoyed the explanation but tldr of it is his armor and abilities allowed him to lessen or entirely negate some force abilities, and most Jedis were not in the mindset of using the force as an offensive tactic other than support for speed.
I love Grievous so much! Such an intimidating villian w a badass character design... 1st being Vader, 2nd Palpatine and 3rd being General Grievous.
Where is cad bane now? Is he dead? And if not could we see him in star wars rebels season 4 or the han solo movie?
Adel Yonis ikr? I want him to appear in Rebels and fight Rex
Adel Yonis he got shot in the head In a duel with boba Fett
Really?
Do you have a link to the video?
Adel Yonis, just search for it.
RIP IN PEACE KIT FISTO MY FAV JEDI!!
Why would say rip then say in peace
Yes
All the reasons you mentioned sound rational, but still I can't help not to feel like it's just plot armor. I mean... does anyone really think that such skilled jedi as Windu or Kenobi would be intimidated by someone without a connection to the force?
I always thought it was stupid that Windu crushed the organs of Grievous because that is nothing a Jedi would do.
18Krieger Well, Mace Windu is known to be one to dabble with dark side techniques. You would have never seen it from Yoda, Kenobi or others like them, but with Mace, it makes sense.
MetalSpiderPig They were pretty intimidated by Jango, and he certainly wasn't force sensitice. He wasn't even a cyborg, just a normal human wearing armor that lightsabers could slice right through. And he still managed to kill six Jedi with his bare hands, too. Nonforce sensitives can be just as badass as Jedi. It's just rarer
Thomas Hays Jango killing those six Jedi is called plot to make your character look badass
Logically, he wouldn't stand half a second against even a padwan
Grievous uses a combat method known as "dun möch" and the tactic just employs taunts and verbal attacks to weaken his enemies. It can backfire since, if provoked, an enemy can be driven to mindless anger and opens up to the dark side. It can be argued the concept of the force choke is affiliated with the dark side and that was why Mace Windu had the power to just crush Grievous's lungs, and thus slipped into the dark side slightly. Probably why he is so strict with certain styles of fighting and his mindset is that the dark side must be avoided since he got a tatse of what the power feels like.
Yeah I read somewhere that force use during focus on lightsaber combat is very difficult. So I feel like grievous' ability to overwhelm with his fast lightsaber attacks forces force users to focus all of their power on their lightsaber strikes and parries. That's my opinion
Have you seen this man in the clone wars animated cartoon? Now that's pure fear
I mean, it makes sense. Grievous was trained for Jedi mainly. Facing someone like Anakin, Ventress or even a Sith would seem like suicide. From a certain point of view.
1:10 "Grievous used shock value to a T"
Grievous used Shaak value to a Ti
The whole intimidation thing really works. In Star Wars Clone Wars Vol. 1 (I think) the final scene is a group of Jedi in hiding. Grievous announces he's coming for them, but there is silence followed by the sound of his stomping. When the stomping stops, a padawan gets nervous, draws his lightsaber, and comes out to face Grievous, only to be crushed by his feet when he jumped down from his vantage point.
A thorough and well constructed analysis. Also, with the Clones arriving, Obi-Wan's confidence must have swelled immensely, dispelling all doubts and letting him call upon the Force with no obstacles. Vader wielded fear in a very similar fashion, making it as much a part of his arsenal as his blade to break Jedi down before crushing them.
what if anakin fell in love with obi-wan instead of padme?
Obi Wan would love him back, jump off the high ground and say I'M GAY!!!
First, Anakin loved Padme of course.
Second, Obi-Wan's girlfriends were recorded to be much more than Anakin's.
So they were both heterosexual.
JustChilling what if obi-wan fell in love with padme instead of anakin falling in love with her?
Magnus Juul i kinda feel like he was to some extent in love with padme, but never acted on it due to his dedication to the jedi order
Auralnauts did that
General Grievous weighs probably a couple thousand pounds, and is also strong as hell..... not to mention he has a high midichlorian count(_meaning the force guides him, even if he isn't force sensitive_).
Also, his lightsaber technique is terrifying. Hard to concentrate when you're scared.
He wasn't force sensitive in the least...
Not Pulverman He had blood from Sifo Dyas. Dooku used it in his creation.
Not Pulverman I think he actually is 350 pounds and also you are right concentration is not easy when 4 lightsabers continiously swing at you
@@Charxlotte_Xx Considering, in Legends the greatest duelists (like Windu) were said to be so fast that they seemed as if they were wielding a dozen sabers at once. 4 lightsabers wielded by a duelist not as skilled as Windu is kinda small beans there.
Lucasfilm/Disney should pay you money for tying together their loose ends so well! I honestly don't think a lot of this stuff was thought through when originally created. Love your videos though man, please keep it up!
Well, good explaination, as the only time that griveous didnt suprise attack a Jedi, his guts got force crushed.
Tbh i see alot of comments about Grievous getting beaten by Gungangs. Gungangs arent bad at the face of battle, they just got a bad reputation cuz of Jar-Jar. Like why would dooku try to bring the gungangs to their side of the war? Cuz they are useful and can fight really well. Like they did hold up against the droid army in episode 1, endless waves of droids attacking. They are underestimated. And when grievous went against them he held back for some time and killed some. But then they came and stabbed him with spears wich immobilised him and then they threw the blue balls (dont know what they are called) that shut down his body systems. They know what they are doing.
Wait the cartoon is legends? I remember watching the cartoon, and then when the movie came out, you see grievous coughing a lot for a while. I thought that was because of Mace?
Well yes but actually no.
The cartoon used to be canon, but disney decided it wasn't anymore and that grievous was just a coward.
I hate that the first Clone Wars tv show (2003) is now legends and not canon. It's one of my favorite pieces of Star Wars media!
It’s so disappointing that the badass version of grievous isn’t canon but the cheesy moustache twirling one is
what happened to the Korriban and Dromund Kaas after the old republic?
Omg this makes so much sense. This is why he was so much more powerful in the 2003 CW, more Jedi were scared of him. Whenever someone had no fear against him (eg. Ventress) they would defeat him easily
Yes I believe a major component of why the Jedi are less effective versus sith are the fact they don’t use the force when given the opportunity only relying on dueling while the sith use it more offensively being able to first buy and throw object in the middle of a duel
Bad Jedi philosophy: Yoda's willingness to intentionally cripple his own student's willingness to use the Force when necessary to minimize harm. He'd let his apprentices violate the sovereign free will of other beings via mind tricks without concern-... but would not let them force grip relatively hard a walking death machine that had committed and was in the act of committing genocides. Yoda is among the single most morally reprehensible Jedi Masters who ever lived- his corrupt philosophies doomed the Jedi, and billions of other beings to pointless suffering and death. His personal culpability is staggering as he was Grand-master for centuries before those events- no other entities aside from the Sith Lords exceed the evil that Yoda's Jedi Order represented.
Isaac Frazier and that's why it's time for the Jedi to end.
Isaac Frazier yoda admits he messed up, he even (big Last Jedi spoiler)
Helps luke burn the last Jedi texts
Troy 21 you weren’t paying attention that isn’t what happened
The jedi always had ignorance in them
Yeah, that's just, like; your opinion man.
Just imagine if Grievous did have the force...
HEAT LIFE oh Dear GOD!!!
Add some Yoda-level force and some electric sparks and you got a death wish right there.
Aren't abilities with Force connected to how much body you have, so guy who's literaally brian with eyeballs attached to some of guts would be extremly weak?
Nemo TheEight he has his upper torso technically so he would have enough to maybe get into others minds to increase his fear tactic.
Kinda want a new clone wars series that's considered "new Canon" that makes Grevious the fuckin' Jedi killing badass he was in legends. Don't get me wrong, the clone wars TV show had some amazing moments, but I feel like they could do better using the feedback they got from those episodes
That quote from the classic clone wars show was awesome. I wish that show went on longer (I know why it was stopped earlier that it did). It was just more of a compelling story telling show along with that visual cartoon style (that I personally love). I feel there was so much they could’ve done with that show because I personally felt like they had great characters and Grievious was ACTUALLY GENERAL GRIEVIOUS in the show. He was terrifying and menacing and supremely deadly. Thanks for the video!
This actually explains why Grievous seemed so cowardly in The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith: in most battles on TCW, Grievous fought members of the Jedi Council, who were among the most powerful, and as he was taught, he retreated when his intimidation was not powerful enough. As was in ROTS, since we only saw him fight Obi-Wan.
I think Star Killer could easily CRUSH Grievous
M SW star killer could crush everyone
BeatMan nah just nah
BeatMan it's probably why he couldn't be in an online star wars game XD
Tukyxx- NBA Live Mobile tell me one
BeatMan droid or anyone?
My opinion on grievous... he's the most badass starwars character
Because plot hole, is why.
You have one of the best names ive ever seen on UA-cam
Lol, 95% of Star Wars technology and politics is a plot hole.
As always, wonderful video The Stupendous Wave!
thanks for the post perhaps the most complete explanation of the powers of Grievous and loved how you used canon and non canon material to sum it up keep up the good work.
“Fear tactics” right because combat hardened Jedi trained from birth to feel the force are so easy to screw with mentally.. he fought evenly with Jedi because his cybernetics make him faster then most Jedi and using the force takes a free hand and a chance to focus. As long as he stays offensive, with his speed and all 4 arms he can prevent them from ever having an opening to use it 80-90% of the time.
And yes I know there was the one Jedi who cracked from the pressure when grievous was first introduced but he was a padawan and the other 5 Jedi all kept their heads so that dude was the exception not the rule
"roger, Roger, ROGER *ROGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*"
- general grieous star wars battlefront 2
I just want to point out One thing concerning all of this Legend/Canon stuff.
At the beginning of Episode III (Canon), Grievous is injured. His breath is ragged and his chest structure has been crushed.
The explanation for this is that Mace Windu used the force on him, narrowly missing his chance to end Grievous right there. But this occurred in The Clone Wars animation... which is now "Legend"?
This division of the Star Wars Universe is idiotic and I just don't understand why Disney is doing it.
There's no way this is about questionable morality in parts of the franchise. Disney made Pirates of the Caribbean - A series that glorified LITERAL PIRACY.
And I doubt it has anything to do with the Rights of Authors and other Creators of "Legends" material. Disney would be better off including the entirety and obtaining a percentage of the profits. As it stands, those Creators are still earning royalties and Disney gets nothing. Rebranding their works as "Legends" might actually be garnering more interest, new sales and renewed profit.
So... WTF, Disney?
😡
I get that Disney had to disregard a lot of EU stuff so that they could make their new trilogy and set it after Episode VI but they should've continued using the EU tier list. The way it was before was that Lucas' films were definitive canon, next came the 2008 Clone Wars, then came the novels, then the important comics etc and at the bottom is material that contradicts existing storylines and definitely non-canon stuff. Basically everyone agreed that Lucas was free to do whatever he wanted in future films without having to be accurate to EU lore but Lucas even still made sure the prequels he made accounted for the other lore just because he felt like it. But then again he did reserve that period of the clone wars for himself in case he made more movies (which he obviously did) and Disney did not have that liberty. Disney deeming everything except the films and the 2008 Clone Wars completely non-canon (Legends) was just lazy. They could've just said anything that happens during the period of the new trilogy is no longer canon and kept the tier list and people wouldn't be as pissed
Raul Petrascu that would quickly stop working any time something in the sequel trilogy inevitably contradicted something from after that point in the EU. For example, (TLJ SPOILER!) that the muhfuckin old man of the mountain version of Luke would die, but he still appears alive in novels that were set after the time period of the sequels?
0:37 I'm not going to fight you, you're dirty! - Dooku
I've watched a ton of your vids. This one has the best artwork by far!
I'm telling you guys a hammer would be a lot better
or simply force crushing his heart
or cough back at him
TLDR: why don't they just use the force?
He has good feet
What if anakin and padmé went to Obi-Wan for help when padmé suggested it?
In the lore, Grevious has blood from a Jedi transfused into him. While it’s explained that it was primarily to help him simply stay alive, I like to think it helped him be resistant to the force being used against him
Don't forget, by the time of the Clone Wars, the Jedi had fallen into stagnation and arrogance. They no longer focused on martial skill and spent more time in the esoteric. Had Grievous been around during the Old Republic I suspect he would have found his tactics much less effective against Jedi.
