    • @jenniferlynn3537

      Yes - it DOES - because Häagen-Dazs only uses pure vanilla extract. They also use the highest quality Madagascar vanilla beans - which are far more flavorful (and hence expensive) than those from Indonesia. I used to work for a flavor company that sold to Häagen-Dazs - and their standards were notoriously high: The bundles of beans had to be plump and fresh, and free from mold, cuts or other blemishes.
      It’s very sad reading some of the comments on this video. The American palate has become so corrupted by artificial flavorings, cheap sweeteners, gums, additives and preservatives that it no longer appreciates high-quality food over adulterated versions. When kids are brought up with certain flavors, they usually end up developing an affinity for them, associate the taste with nostalgia and the comforts of home - even if what they’re consuming is of low value.
      I read one guy waxing poetic about his favorite ice cream brand melting “into the perfect thick milkshake.” Except that REAL ice cream melts into a liquid - NOT a frothy thick sludge. Milkshakes are SUPPOSED be made by blending milk with frozen ice cream to obtain that characteristic soft, thick, drink - which is ALSO supposed to melt into a liquid.
      The FDA has really allowed a lot of garbage to come to market - and it’s little wonder we have the health problems that we do.

None of the ARTIFICIAL FILLERS, ETC. - Europeans have a history of real food & HG is all real compared to the others. Too bad they don't include Costco's Kirkland brand. They only have one flavor, vanilla. It comes in a two-pack - two actual half-gallons, not those shrunken containers everyone else seems to have gone to. I like it very much. The ingredients list:
    Fresh Cream, Skim Milk, Sugar, Pasteurized Egg Yolks, Vanilla Extract, Carob Bean Gum and Guar Gum.
    I googled the winner, Turkey Hill. Ingredients: Milk, Cream, Sugar, Corn Syrup, Nonfat Milk, Whey, Natural And Artificial Flavors, Cellulose Gel, Cellulose Gum, Mono & Diglycerides, Carrageenan, Annatto Color.

    Wow. It is amazing what people consider good. Häagen-Dazs has a ridiculous name, but their vanilla and vanilla bean ice creams are the best grocery store vanilla ice creams by far. Vanilla contains: cream, skim milk, cane sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla extract. The vanilla bean flavor also has ground vanilla beans after the egg yolks. For those who say it is icy, you must be getting it on a deep sale after the store's freezer gave out and it thawed and re-froze. It is usually naturally creamy due to the high fat and egg yolk content, unlike the other brands that have so many fillers. I guess people think those taste creamy, but to me they taste greasy and waxy and fake.
    Ben and Jerry's? Their third ingredient is liquid sugar (sugar and water) and the fourth ingredient is WATER! And it has fillers like guar gum and carrageenan to try to make it artificially creamier. Gross.
    People in the comments also seem to think Blue Bell "Homemade" vanilla is the best. Are they insane? It has high fructose corn syrup, artificial vanilla flavor, cellulose gum, guar gum, carrageenan, carob bean, and annatto color (to give it a bit of an orange tint as if it actually contains egg yolk, which it does not.
    Maybe people convince themselves stuff like Turkey Hill actually tastes good because it costs seven times less than Häagen-Dazs. I don't get it. I'd much rather have 14 oz of Häagen-Dazs than 3 quarts of these artificial brands.

    Haagen Dazs for the win. It's the only one without corn syrup and hydrogenated oils and fillers/emulsifiers/homogenizers. It has just a few ingredients and is BY FAR the only good choice for ice cream. The taste is perfect, it's dense and creamy with no air. It's the only ice cream I buy.

    • @Wateringman
      @Wateringman 3 роки тому

      Häagen-Dazs is NOT an ice cream. It is a CUSTARD! It has eggs. It may have no air, zero corn syrup, and no other additives.
      However, Haagen-Dazs has changed the recipe. It is now not as creamy as it used to be. Why?
      The answer is in the ingredients list. Haagen-Dazs used to use condensed milk. Now they use skim milk, which is likely more watery. It apparently has changed the taste very subtly; it seems it is now not as creamy and yummy as it used to be. I can taste the lower satisfactory taste it leaves me with. So have many others, who have picked up on the taste being less satisfying.

      @@chrissygerwitz520 Ice cream has no eggs in it. Period. Eggs make it a custard. Now, some people for marketing purposes decided to BS, and claim that for ice cream to be called a custard, it must have more than 1.4 percent eggs. Wrong. True ice cream has no eggs whatsoever. Some others use eggs and still call it ice cream because eggs are the only emulsifiers they use. I believe they call that "organic ice cream". Too many blur the truth, all for the sake of marketing. Ice cream carries no eggs by tradition. And if you put enough eggs into ice cream, it is no longer a custard. Its called French Style Ice Cream.

    • @chrissygerwitz520

      @@Wateringman Oh boy. It is not my intention to educate you, but understand this: Ice cream made without eggs (Philadelphia-style ice cream) and ice cream made with eggs (French-style ice cream) are both true and legitimate forms of ice cream. Frozen custard is a similar, but different product than French-style vanilla ice cream (or "French Vanilla," if you will). Among other differences, French Vanilla ice cream is a hard product and frozen custard is served soft. Got it now? If not, then there is nothing else I can say to you.

    • @Wateringman
      @Wateringman 2 роки тому

      @@chrissygerwitz520 Dear Chrissy, as I have understood it, the Phyladelphia style Ice Cream was created for the specific purpose of getting away from the labor intensive effort, employed to make French Ice Cream which is custard base. The US wanted something fast and soft enough, to stuff into cones. Philadelphia style had to have a certain amount of fat, to be considered "Ice Cream" That differentiated the American Style of ice cream from the French Custard Style. Hence the consideration of Ice Cream not having eggs, here in the United States. We are not in France. Whatever they want to call it in France is their business. But you must not use the French recipe an style, and then call it Ice Cream. Call it what it is. A custard ice confection. As far as soft serve versus hard product, it all comes down to the amount of fat, and air churned into the mixture,
      However, for rule of thumb regardless, anything containing eggs is considered a custard.
      Now why would companies like Haagen-Dazs, and Ben & Jerry's fight tooth and nail to call their egg concoctions an Ice
      Cream and not a custard based frozen cream. Marketing. Read the calories in the Haagen-Dazs, and Ben & Jerry's vs true eggless ice creams. That would more likely allienate people away from Haagen-Dazs, and Ben & Jerry's because of the calories they provide.

In middle Iowa, I can only find Breyers French Vanilla, which is heavy, yellow and is a custard type. Not at all the same. I usually get Blue Bunny Vanilla Bean Frozen Yogurt here, it is caramel/butterscotch flavor with the flecks and delicious. Magnum Mini Chocolate Bars actually have a really good vanilla ice cream inside, very smooth and that outside chocolate very good. I grew up with my Mother preferring Ice Milk, which is made with low fat. It is a curious, thin but sweet treat, but not ice cream. Hagen Das is close to Ice Milk in some of its products.

      HD is FAR from ice milk - it is the highest fat national ice cream brand. It might remind you of ice milk because it melts quickly, due to the lack of fillers.

    Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream is the best! It is the richest, creamiest ice cream available in SW Oklahoma.....unless I make my own.

    My favorite right now is Blue Bell, 2nd is Haagen Daz. I think that Haagen Daz vanilla has a bit of a different vanilla taste than the first time I tried it many years ago. Is it me? or Haagen day.

    Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream for warm and doughy desserts like cobbler and cake,
    Tillamook Vanilla Bean for fancier desserts.

    After reading these posts, I went out to get Blue Bell, but got confused and bought Blue Bunny.
    A nice surprise, since it's a really good vanilla. Plus the tub is plastic, sealing in the ice cream without picking up smells from the freezer.
    I'm a Haagen Daz fan, and their vanilla tends to be a bit too sweet, but still pretty great.
    Their best is the coffee flavor.

      Totally agree! We have bought Blue Bunny vanilla here in San Diego, and it is pure and delicious. Before that, we used to like Breyer's vanilla. But it has changed, not sure what they did to it. Also like some Talenti flavors. And Haagen Daas coffee .

      Blue Bunny is really good! It may only be available in the Midwest...I think its made in Iowa.

      The plastic tub is why I don't buy Blue Bunny. The world doesn't need another-hard-to- recycle-if-not- impossible product container.
