@@WiseSageBum Just watched the beginning of C2 (I'm actually nowhere near these episodes, but I already know everything that happens up until the recent episode, just don't know how they're worded exactly, so I'm watching these clips. I'm actually on episode 20, dreading 26 since it's coming up.) and the episode where Nott talks to some people about her and Caleb's relationship is Episode 13.
The best part is, Sam didn't have the reason Veth died when he created the character. It was only after Nott's phobia of water was established that Sam decided she drowned.
The absolute god tier role playing of this scene First we have Sam Riegel, expertly portraying the broken mother Then Tal, who stays in the “constantly churning this information” mode, never really getting the intricacies of this conversation Then of course Travis, Laura, and Marisha; who portray regret, curiosity, and melancholy happiness, respectively And finally Liam, who mixed the real emotions he was feeling with his role playing, and perfectly showing how distraught Caleb was at the idea that Nott had all this bottled up inside, and he “didn’t bother” to find out. Or at least that’s how Caleb feels. Absolutely amazing work, even professional actors this kind of thing is impressive.
Not to mention, Nott the Brave is an anogram for Veth's full name... Only Emmy winning Sam fucking Riegel would have made up such a tragic but well thought out backstory.
Nott's always been my favorite character and now I have another reason to feel so close to her. It's desperately soul-destroying living in a body that you don't think of as your own, especially when you see the body that you're in as monstrous. It was hard watching this scene, but I'm glad it happened, and I'm glad the character was made. It's settled my love for the cast even deeper than it was before.
Beau zeroing in on the wax seal bit is underrated and hysterical. Like “hey I know you’re telling us some deep shit right now but uh... them wax seals...”
When Beau said that, she immediately lost a ton of respect from me. I saw it as a “Hold up, we can use those wax seals to imitate people’s writing” in the middle of a crucial backstory reveal. A tad bit ignorant, I think.
I love Marisha for that sentence though... Even if it was thoughtless in the moment, Beau is selfish to a T, and always trying to think of ways to gather more crucial intel to possibly use to protect her end goal with. But I do like that Beau has been trying to work onthat part of her. Earlier on she would not have told Nott it was a cool hobby afterwards. She would have just let it drop, but she definitely made that last comment to console Nott in her own way. She also would not have given Fjord such a judgemental side eye when Nott mentioned being drowned because she would not have cared. But she cares now, and that makes her better in my mind.
It took me longer than I want to admit to realize that Nott was hit by a standard reincarnate spell. I thought it was like a special curse or something for whatever reason.
I think it might be because he has more experience than the others. He did improv and broadway before voice acting so he has that little edge over everyone.
The sad thing is, even if Caleb finds a way to cast True Polymorph and concentrates on the spell for the whole 1 hour duration, it can still be dispelled with a high enough casting or roll with Dispel Magic. They would need a Druid with access to 5th level spells to be able to use Reincarnate and really good luck to ensure she would be a Halfling and even better luck to ensure that she’s the right kind of Halfling (stout or light foot, Sam didn’t say) and be so permanently.
I agree with the half-elf bard. I always assumed Caleb would grab that wish spell that Vax never got to recieve, and could use it to save Nott, possibly alter time itself. Use it to bring down the Empire. Whatever his end goal is, I am sure he can save 1 wish for Nott, the same way Scanlan tried to save his wish for Vax.
Ashley Cook perhaps he will have to make the choice, save Nott or save himself. Either alter time to turn Nott back into her halfling form or stop himself from killing his parents. Personally I think Caleb would choose Nott, his character has come out a lot more than the cowering wizard we were introduced to and he already sees her as a mother figure, and the rest of the nein his very dysfunctional family.
I can't control my tears anymore. His performance is beautiful and it really shows their talent. I had even drawn little things from his narration and I just love how it made me feel

Could have been a curse - mechanics for curses are usually up to GM’s prerogative. Even staying within the PHB mechanics, I could see “If this creature dies before this spell ends, they will be reincarnated as their worst nightmare” being a legit use of Bestow Curse.
@@tugboatyan That sounds genuinely horrifying, fictional curse or not. Imagine fighting for your life so that you don't get cursed, but then you die and know that you're going to be reincarnated as something horrid.
I think in the end Caleb will get wish and have to decide whether or not he uses it for his revenge and his family or uses it to save Nott so she can be with her husband and son again. Hopefully the second option, for character growth and to call back to the campaign one finale.

I mean, Beau's backstory has always seemed less to be outright lies and more half truths. I have a feeling the big part she is leaving out is that her family is a lot more important/powerful than she lets on.
I don't think that Beau has been dishonest, she just hasn't opened up completely about her parents influence. Plus, I am sure they must've thrown her out when they found out she was a lesbian to top everything else off, hence why she is so guarded about it. (It hurts to talk, so she would rather not say anything) But Jester and Duece definitely have stuff, though I think Duece just doesn't realize it, and Jester maybe a pawn for the travler so she may not realize it either. Fjord is being relatively honest. He got thrown overboard during an attack on the boat, woke up with the sword, and can't remember shit else about the event. Nott put ALL of her shit on that table, and Yasha put a huge chunk on the table. (Though there are some questions about her that still linger.) And "Caleb," put most of it on the table for Nott and Beau now.

I think it was a reincarnate spell slightly modified to reincarnte in a goblin, thats why she was killed. Also, that would make Caleb (transmutation wizard) more special to Nott. She says that he was almost powerfull enough, which could mean a lower lvl spell.
Reincarnation allows the GM to pick the race as well. But it is a 5th level Druid spell but even learning it (which a wizard can't) doesn't reverse it. Other than Matt making up a way the only way to reverse it would probably be the Wish spell.
Could be a curse of some sot that Matt allowed as part of a backstory that was powerful enough to be hard to reverse. Could be fiend deal for the goblin wife to take revenge on and switching their bodies and taking the goblin's soul as payment and transferring Nott in to the body she's in right now.

Same! I was kind of disappointed with the reveal. Obviously Sam is a tremendously amazing performer and roleplayer and Veth's story is compelling as all heck, but I also thought it was cool to have one of the more traditionally "monstrous" races in the party and having this be a story about internalized hatred and how to slowly unlearn that. Oh well, we can just go ahead and steal that idea for our own characters! xD
Is it possible that they killed Beth and used a beacon to reincarnate her. She didn't mention a childhood as a goblin but not knowing how the beacon works I feel like its possible
