That is still my favorite monologue type segment of the series. Nott basically told them they didn't know anything, and to just shut up and listen for once. Caleb is a lost boy, and Nott is there to guide him to becoming great.
Accept now she has gone on to say "you are the second love of my life." So not mother and son anymore...that comment, looking back doesn't properly express their relationship.
@@azurastar3223 uh, you can have a second love without being "in love" with that second person. It still is a parent/child relationship. When a mother gives birth, it is at that moment she has another love of her life. At least that's what my girlfriend says

I think Nott was projecting in that scene and throughout, her actual son onto Caleb. But taking everything away, what's actually real is their friendship, which is what I think their love is like. Platonic and Romantic love have differences but there is a large overlap which is why it can be confusing.

I just had a thought watching the video and reading your comment. I'm wondering if Nott's clan either killed a halfling family or destroyed a town of halflings and she found a small child she decided to take care of out of guilt. She mentions how much she hates her own kind. I' assuming their is some inciting incident that relates to her maternal instincts. Maybe she saw the damage her clan could do and decided to try and do the right thing. However this is all assumptions and hearsay so I wouldn't be surprised if I was totally wrong.

Additional Hints!!! When Fjord says "I didn't always look like this." Nott asks "WHAT!?!?" and inquires further about it, losing interest only when she realizes Fjord was always a half-orc. (SEASON 2 - EPISODE 11 - TIME 3:04:52) When Matt reveals that there was no use for dynamite in the small farming village of Feldwin. Sam seems to signal to Matt that he said too much by briefly touching the back of his neck, after which Matt immediately (but quickly and non-chalantly) corrects that statement to be the OUTSKIRTS of that village. Children tend to play with everything and the buttons are the best, Nott could get. Also they are pretty precious, at least her husband could sell them. Another point is, that Nott is becoming more and more goblin which terrifies her. She’s afraid to forget her past more and more. So yeah, considering all those things, it makes perfect sense.

It's been really cool see Sam play Nott as I started playing my own Goblin character around the time season 2 started. I've been playing as someone who wants to lift all the goblinoid races up from evil (as a Redemption Paladín, go figure) and is trying to find and restore the old Goblin ways before Magubliyet took over. I've enjoyed seeing Sam play a Goblin PC who seems to hate themselves for being a Goblin (as well as the regret for what happened in Felderwind(sp?)).

I don't think they believe Nott wants to be a boy. They are just saying it seems similar to how some trans people feel about their bodies. This is because Nott is experiencing body dysmorphia.
Trans people suffer from body dysmorphia. The idea of alienation from the body they are in, like it doesn't look how they feel it should look. Nott is experiencing the same thing and so has become loved by people with this condition. They feel represented.

Fjord has the potential to help Nott in the exact same way as Caleb, being that both of their classes' spell lists include True Polymorph.
