Dad is having a meal at the kitchen. He drops the fork, lunges to catch it just an inch above the floor, sighs with relief.
A few seconds later, son runs into the kitchen:
    - Mom, Dad! The elevator just broke down, with Gramma inside!

Growing up- if someone stepped over me, I made then step back over me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t grow. 😂

My Polish grandma told me about the silverware. I always thought you shouldn't open an umbrella in the house because it won't fit through the door on your way out.😊

I use to always whistle pre-spouse days & will sometimes whistle when she cannot hear me in the house. If she reads this she'll blame me for sure that we're not retired yet

Celtic people also have the salt and umbrella superstition and never put shoes even brand new in the box on a table! When I was in CCCP many years ago when everyone smoked 3 people lit on the same match means death for someone!

Same on the umbrella. But with salt, you take a pinch and toss it over your left shoulder. With shoes though, you never put them on the bed.
My parents grew up in the American South. My dad was part Scotch-Irish, descended from great-great grandpa (and his brother) from Northern Ireland. They had to suddenly leave as political refugees protesting the Great Hunger.

There's a cure for the spilled salt: you can throw a pinch over your shoulder.
The dropped cutlery isn't a good or bad omen, it's just a warning to prepare to receive a guest. Hospitality to guests was culturally important to Russians and other Slavic peoples, so it was important to receive a guest with an offer of food and drink. The reason for a visit could be anything, good or bad, or simply someone asking for directions. The gender of the guest comes from the fact that all singular nouns in Russian are masculine or feminine. Knives are masculine, while spoons and forks are feminine. Instead of saying "it", Russians refer to singular objects as "he" or "she". The superstition is not very good at predicting a group of visitors.
Umbrellas can be opened on balconies or verandas, with no ill effect, as long as it's not inside the house/building proper. There are grey areas like communal hallways and stairwells in apartment buildings.
Doing anything on the threshold of a house is bad because the host hasn't invited the guest inside. This is bad manners, and the guest might feel insulted. Furthermore, neighbors might see this breach of etiquette and consider the host rude and unfriendly. Shaking hands is also acceptable if the host steps outside, especially if the two people then go somewhere else together.
Whistling is again, probably more about the fact that Russians traditionally live in fairly small fairly simple homes, and whistling can be annoying to others. But it may also come from the perception of a care-free attitude that may lead to frivolous waste of resources.
The not going back inside, or the looking into a mirror, is new to me. Something about the idea that the mirror reflects bad luck somehow, or that you can pass your bad luck to your reflection? No idea on that one.
The spitting over your left shoulder I've seen. You don't actually spit, just pantomime. I'm not sure the origins or exactly how this is supposed to work. The knocking on wood must be less common, because I don't recall ever seeing it. Also, no idea how it's supposed to work, or why wood rather than stone or metal.

Most of those beliefs we do have in Argentina through russian jewish immigration, the umbrella indoor thing could provoke a heart attack in my grandparents from Odessa and Kamenetz Podolsk
And altough they were quite practicant jews the knife falling on the floor would be a real catastrophe for that could bring anger to the DOMOVOI (the creature that lives in the shades and protects the household)

Русские приметы если рассыпал соль будет сора.
Если уронил вилку аридет женщина, ложку мужчина.
    Забыл ключи нельзя воращаться.
Что делать если тв уронил вилку, ложку, просыпал соль и забыл ключи?
Ничего тогда ты просто рукожоп it's a badluck 😂
Believe me I'm Russian, I know
