Actually the ship wasn't blown up, I turned off the engines as it wasn't handling. I think my piloting skills speak for themself 19:35. Nothing worse than back seat drivers when trying to concentrate.
I ran into a similar problem with an orgmate while visiting a moon with a fully crewed Carrack--MY fully crewed Carrack--which he was piloting. I suggested he begin applying the brakes because we were going very fast towards the ground. He said don't worry. I told him to brake because we were going to hit the ground. He said don't worry. I yelled at him repeatedly to brake and pull up immediately. He started to yell back at me, then said "Wait--OH @#$%!!!". Then we exploded. His excuse was he didn't know we were that close to the ground. It's been over two years now, I think? I don't let him forget about that, ever.
My org loved using the Hoplite as a dropship. It has 6 drop seats , just enough for a full squad . It also has a small signature and cross section, so it was easier to sneak in undetected and a large weapon rack including space for Rail Guns by the seats. We preferred putting a squad each in 2 hoplites coming from different directions rather than have all our eggs in one basket with a Valk/Steel/Prowler etc. We didn't need VTOL because we practiced to hot drop by keeping wheels up and flying low with the ramp nearly touching the ground and having the squad jump out. We figured out the max speed we could fly to not hurt someone rolling out the back. Once the squads are out, the Hoplites could perform CAS or CAP if necessary.
My old org prefered the hoplite as well, it just handled leagues better and if we did need need a vehicle then the m2 did a much better job than the rest. For silly shit we chose the 100i and everyone just laid down inside haha
The Hoplite is the play, in most situations. We used to use it for JT runs. Hot drop the squad out of sight of the facility, and the pilot and turret gunner could maintain air superiority with the help of a couple interceptors and a torpedo boat. With just one Hoplite you can drop at least 10 people, with anyone not in a seat laying down on the floor. That's way more than enough for maintaining ownership of JT, as long as you can keep the air clear.
You missed the Origin 890 jump drop ship. You land right beside the complex, set your T2 med bed spawn. Take the hangar elevator to the top of the ship, and with the protection of 2 x capital shields, just sniper the complex from the high ground. After that, you hit the bar😂
The corsair is the largest capacity drop ship. 4 beds. Pilot seat. 3 turrets. 4 at picnic table 1 on toilet. That's what 13 people with chairs u can quantum in
Prowler, line up vertical, Vtol down hard form 3k to the roof top, troops out in 3 seconds, VTOL straight back up with boost. Fun video to watch, thanks for sharing.
This was such a fun watch. lol. Heres the thing. I feel as if you can't use every drop ship in every situation the same way. For instance, if you were coming in with a solo Valkyrie and no air support, you wouldn't opt for a roof drop off let alone coming into direct heavy turret fire. You would utilize the interior room to have a vehicle like an Ursa or even a few pulses to transport you guys closer to the base on land so allowing the Valkyrie to park or land out of turret range. Each dropship has its strengths and weaknesses and you have to play according to them.
This was a fun video for sure hah. I've been practicing vector landing for the purpose of getting in and out quickly and doing dropship piloting etc, it's really fun, and high potential cinematic opportunity, so much fun... until I time dropping the landing gear wrong lmfao. Thanks for the video =)
‘Birth of an action hero’ @ 18:30 , a o7 to all those who came before you that jumped from a building to grasp the landing gear of a hovering chopper with explosion singed toes
There is high stress when we were under a lot of turret fire, and I probably would say the same during that situation, but in the end I call it a good drop, the cutlass steel is always a one way dropship anyway...😆
Black Cutty DOWN!!! To be fair to the pilot, it only started to fly wonky when all port side engines were blow off as a ground trooper mentioned in video.
How the hell does the Steel have more HP than a dedicated military dropship that is supposed to be armoured to drop marines into a hot zone? A drop ship should also approach as low as possible to avoid as much incoming fire from turrets as possible. By coming in high you expose yourself to the entire ring of turrets.
CIG forgot about the Valk when they gave the Prowler 2x HP lol, maybe when the Valk gets its gold pass they will add more shields like the tali and freelancer got??
Surprised that the Valkyrie has so few hull points. The Redeemer excels at destroying turrets, so maybe a different tactic than simple dustoff would be better. Wreck turrets, then deploy.
CIG: Steel sales are low and it is very overpriced, what do we do? Also CIG: for better sales, lets turn the Steel that is made of sheet metal, duct tape and wires that have no insulation into a flying tank better than the heavy armored Valkyrie
Even though you consider the M2 only a vehicle dropship, the fact that is has more drop seats than the Redeemer or Hoplite makes the need to not compare it...bad. Because it can be used for that. More so, if you use it similar to a Terrapin and stick players on the cargo area like you would in the smaller ship, it's already got more capacity. It can VTOL (unlike the hoplite or cutty steel) and fit more than one Ursa/Nursa, up to a Spartan. In those regards it's a good one for better ground support after-the-fact, rather than the ship itself.
I would entertain the idea of the Cutty Black also potentially being used as a dropship. It has enough room for a squad of 6 on Dragonflies, meaning it can deploy at a distance or perform a rolling deployment. Additionally, you have another 6 jump seats if you want to relegate some people on foot, maybe you're bolstering a friendly defensive position. Unlike the Steel, the Black doesn't have the door guns to comfortably provide fire suppression, but the Dragonfly can be used to harry the enemy before dismounting and the Black itself can hold off the odd fighter.
Stats: It'd be nice to list the specific amount of jump seats, to indicate the maximum intended drop size. For example, despite the Valkyrie's weaker hull, it has 20 jump seats, so its role would be more for being escorted to a drop zone, or landing just outside a combat zone. Compare that with the Prowler which is meant for stealth drops with 16 jump seats and 14 weapon lockers, it can easily get in fast and leave, and maybe keep between 2-8 of them on board, either to prep for a second drop zone, or ship security and area patrol if the ship is being kept landed on, say, a rooftop. The Hoplite only has 6 jump seats with weapon lockers, but makes up for it with its fire support capabilities and mobility, but mostly for a quick drop and go. Valkyrie - That Ursa came in handy, providing a med bed for everyone to heal at after the ship went down. Seems like its more of a ship for coming in after AA has been taken down. Cutlass - Definitely seems like a more circle n spray with the door guns to suppress the enemies before disembarking. More for light and fast engagements rather than heavy confrontations. Prowler - No comment. Well done for an in-space drive-by. Retaliator - ......... Maybe wait til its modularity functions are properly implemented. And with a fighter escort >.> Prowler 2 - Probably should've kept everyone in jump seats and tell them only to get up and jump when the doors open, since the doors can be operated from the pilot/co-pilot seat. iirc, when landed, the folded down wings also provide half-cover for disembarking units to hide behind as they drop out the sides. Redeemer - Lacks some of that ATG capability when in the process of dropping/extracting, but works well over all.
Small correction: Redeemer has *4 turrets* (2 manned + 2 remote). The small front remote is slaved to the pilot when there's no one in its operator's seat.
I would say the M2 is very much a dropship; because it has a section where you can put your troops in (12 iirc?) and across that room is an entire armory that has space for many sets of armors; (the only ship on this list that has these) weapons, tools, and lockers for personal inventory. I always believed these are the "grunt" supplement to the vehicle pilots. I mean the Valkyrie also supports vehicle(s) in it's bay and you counted that. The M2 just is a bigger Valkyrie.
yeah they got alot to do with balancing the ships xD the heavy armored ships got 0 hp and shields and the light scouts got more hp and shields then the heavy military ones xD
For a team as small as you are dropping the Terrapin might also work - it is tough, but won't be able to provide the same quality of ground support (and folks will need to mostly lie on the deck).
@@cpt_foxyloxy Terrapin is the best dropship by far. It can get in and out pretty well, can take a beating, and is a hard target to hit. The new Cutty Steel with its recent buff is finally not made of paper, but the better shields and less bits to get shot up still makes the Terrapin way more effective.
For a different video, what is a way to do supply/vehicle drops out of the c2/m2 or other cargo ships quickly, can you drop a vehicle without having anyone in it? and have it survive the orbital drop?
Noise deploys in a cloud around a ship. I know that if you had deployed Noise on your approach you would have just flown through it. But I wonder if deploying Noise when you were landed (loading/unloading) would have interrupted the NPC turrets' targeting since you would have been stationary in the cloud?

The actual use of the term "dropship" in science fiction is due to the fact that it's most commonly a smaller ship "dropping" from a larger ship, carrying troops to a battle. It has nothing to do with dropping soldiers directly out of it. A *droppod* is meant to drop individual soldiers directly from a ship (ala ODST/Helldivers), but a dropship - according to Wikipedia and TV Tropes (the only two sources that really list the term, as it's not an actual "thing" in a dictionary due to its fictional nature) - is a ship designed for the transport of military personnel and vehicles from a parent ship to the surface, most notably popularized in Aliens (1986), when the UD-4 'Cheyenne' Dropship (the ship the Valkyrie is very loosely based on) "drops" from the hangar of the Sulaco.
How on earth is the Valkyrie the one with the second weakest hull strength? It LOOKS like it should have the most out of all of them. It's a beast. The Prowler seems like it should have more shields, with slightly less hull HP, and the Valkyrie should have the same shields it does with WAY more HP. The fact the Valkyrie gets outclassed by the Steel is utterly shameful.
I love the Valkyrie, but it’s not ready for the game. It’s way too squishy and dropships are (sadly) almost completely unnecessary. I’d love to see it get more love.
If we ever get proper org features, and proper systems to facilitate org combat for meaningful purposes (org base assault, taking territory, etc) then it'll finally have a proper use. But until they actually take the time to pay attention to what they're selling ships *as* and balancing them as such, it's insultingly underpowered for what it's supposed to be. It should be an utter tank with little air-to-air combat capacity, but able to soak up shots from ships as it transports troops.
The Valk use to fly pretty good if boosted in turns. Since MM it is just awful. Not awful like it is a little slower but awful as in it now takes 30s to do a 360 rotation awful.
Of all the ships that have been done dirty, I cannot excuse the "done dirty" that has been done to the Valkyrie. Less hull HP than a Cutty Steel? Shameful. It's like they went overboard buffing the Steel because everyone called CIG out for making it the most useless ship in the game, unless you count the ROC DS.
being half f the vid the valkyrie, you went too slow descending, when you are a drop ship you go fast as fck. Arma3 teach me well when using the halo pelican to drop fast as possible and leave to avoid fire and start to being air support
"Don't tell me how to drive when I'm driving"

It should be an utter tank with little air-to-air combat capacity, but able to soak up shots from ships as it transports troops.
Terrapin
redeemer isnt a dropship even by cig anymore
The Valk use to fly pretty good if boosted in turns. Since MM it is just awful. Not awful like it is a little slower but awful as in it now takes 30s to do a 360 rotation awful.
Yeah, I feel that too, turning like a brick. And I have to blame this on the MM again.
It wouldn’t be so bad if it had a hull buff or an armor buff to make it super tanky. It looks like it should be tankier than any cutlass.
So this video solidifies the fact that the Valkyrie is shit at everything but carrying ships.
Hey @Cpt_Foxyloxy, would you be willing to help me by lending me a copy of your F7A Mk1 turret?
“Dont tell me how to drive when im driving” (needs to be told how to drive/fly)
being half f the vid the valkyrie, you went too slow descending, when you are a drop ship you go fast as fck. Arma3 teach me well when using the halo pelican to drop fast as possible and leave to avoid fire and start to being air support
