I believe how he added in the animation in afterwards is that he would of converted the video into images and then imported the pictures as animation frames then drawn over then renders the animation as the same frame rate as the video.

In simple terms, the drawn frames from ToonBoom were converted to a transparent png sequence. I motion-tracked the filmed footage in After Effects and layered it under the animation so it could move around in coordination. If you want to do this effect yourself, I'd suggest looking up camera tracking or motion tracking in your preferred editing software. Best of luck :)

Quick question- after creating the layers in toon boom did you edit the animation altogether in AE and then saved it with transparent background AND then overlay it on the video ? Or did you edit the animation over the video directly. (Not sure if you'll understand me)
