Somewhere out there is someone who thinks they can't take care of plants - especially ferns but I promise you if you go to any big box store and buy a 3" pot Asparagus fern and put it in a 4" IKEA pot that doesn't have a hole so it won't pee all over when you water it I promise you won't be sorry. I only water mine when it droops a little and I have a four foot curtain of greenery that drapes down my wall! (They do have tiny prickers so don't put them where they will snag fabric. Oh and my cat doesn't jump or eat my plants, if you have a wild child maybe think twice? )
This. This is my style. Not even per se inspired by this movie, just the home I grew up with, and the houses I visited as a kid. I used to describe my decor style as rustic coziness with lots of books, plants and a touch of whimsy, but it's basically this. I'm mostly having trouble with the whimsy elements without it becoming childish. On the use of kitchen, when I started to get aesthetically pleasing elements to use in my kitchen (like wooden spoons and glass jars for my tea) that I also started to use my kitchen more. I definitely notice that when you make your kitchen, or work space a pleasant place to be and work in, it actually invites you in, to be there and to use it and work in.
I have wanted my house to be like the Practical Magic house for years! It is my very favorite Fall movie. I’ll have to watch it by myself this year, since my daughter moved to Atlanta. 😞 Love your channel!
Practical Magic has been my favorite film since it was released in 1998 (when I was 14, so it was very influential on me). I know this film like the back of my hand and I absolutely LOVE these suggestions. This is one of the best Practical Magic decor videos I’ve watched. Well done! ✨🕯️✨
I literally just re-read the article about Practical Magic that was in Victoria Magazine more than 20 years ago. I saved it. Many of your photos were used in that photo shoot. They described how the Aunts were craftswomen as well as chemists. Some of their ingredients were things “that could not be spoken aloud”. They were always making things like their potions, fabric dyes, spun yarn, knitted things, herb soaps, herb breads, spice cookies, herbal teas, scented candles. They were always busy. Their print fabrics, artwork and wall papers were all botanical. Vines were literally creeping inside their windows. Plants and nature were their life and livelihood. An interesting way to live.
After seeing the movie, I wanted those beautiful tiles in the kitchen. I did a ton of research and finally found out they were Ann Sacks tiles, but no longer available. So sad! Thanks for a terrific video! No wonder Barbra Streisand wanted to buy the house. Me too!
I already decorated my condo with Mission style furniture (dining room table and chairs, leather recliner, table and floor lamps, bedroom set), plus vintage style antiques that I either bought overseas (rugs, brass statues and trays, etc.) or at antique stores (old steamer trunk as coffee table, old books, antique fan and radio, vintage globes), and a few fake plants (sorry! I can't keep them alive and I travel a bit). So right now, I guess my condo is a bit of Boho meets Light Academia meets Mission. I'd like to add a little of the Practical Magic flair year round - not just my seasonal Halloween decor. Can't wait to watch the movie again, get immersed in the vibe, and get some inspiration that'll work in my space! Separately, your cat is adorable, and I love her little cameos in the video. 😻
You can find a lot of pieces on marketplace that fit this vibe at reasonable prices. You showed a dark wood table with a fluted edge on your video, I purchased a three tiered one on marketplace two years ago that looks exactly like it. They called it a pie crust table. I have a long vining plant on the top tier of the table in the corner next to the sofa, and above that I attached a swirly twirly tall iron trellis for it to climb by putting a hook in the ceiling. I ran twinkle fairy lights up the whole thing and the plant now reaches the ceiling. Talk about magical and green, it’s stunning!
I love the Practical Magick house!! I love all the plants and candles. I have a black thumb, and fake plants often look fake in large amounts. But I can dream lol.
Nice. If you want instant PM then actually cook and do some crafts like painting and candle making. Your place will soon fill with the right objects. I think where people go wrong is when they just display jars etc that are clearly not used. The PM house was a witches house and they made potions and cooked and grew plants. That’s why they had all that stuff.
Yes!! Because then it becomes real. One can stage and buy all the "right" items but if you live the way of life it comes alive in ways no styling or curating or decorating can ever do.
In one scene one of the aunts is operating a spinning, antique yarn winder. I actually found one in an antique store! I also think about the scene the dead boyfriend comes back to "life". His silvery eyes were inspired by Victorian early photography. When they were taken "wrong" the eyes glowed silverish.
Is it just me or did that movie transition anyone else into watching the original Charmed TV series from the 1990s? That house totally gave me feels. I grew up in a house like that. Love the decor. Used to make Besom Broom shelves in my other apartments. Thinking about making one again.
Hi Steffi!! I haven't started the video yet, but I just want to say I'm happy youre posting currently because I have totally planned a festive autumn binge of your channel and vedacorvus for dark moody decor inspo
Practical Magic is so iconic and good. I would love to live that house, if only it were real! Could you maybe do a video about mixing mid-century modern and a witchy esthetic in both a lighter palette and a darker palette, similar to your other academia videos?
So if you want something similar to the Aunts decor, there is an etsy seller who has done the whole Owens artwork. It's on a wishlist of mine and I am fully planning on doing a wall with them when I can.
I have been watching quite a few of these videos over the past month for inspiration in a Practical Magic decorating appeal. My home is very eclectic. I think your video is fantastic. I'm so glad I found your channel a bit ago and I've been watching a few of your videos even though I don't have an apartment it doesn't matter. I just posted it on Alice Hoffman's page today on Facebook because she posted in regards to a recent Architectural Digest article on the decorating of Practical Magic.☕🔮✨ 😂🧙🏻♀️🪄🕯️🧹🌕🍲🖤📚💯🍁🧡🍂☺️🙌🏻
Steffi I had to laugh. Loving the furniture and looking at my cat who is fling his nails in anticipation of those couches and chairs. I think a lot is limited by his cantankerous self😂
i have recently moved into my first apartment and have been having the hardest time figuring out my personal style and overall vibe of my place. Your videos have been SOOO helpful. I literally gasped when I saw this one. Any styling tips for a modern industrial cozy boho feel?
Steffi, I love all the videos you're posting....and I have a saved folder for them ...I have noticed you always look like you belong in your environment...help. how do you do this...I like!!!!!
Hey! Could you please please please share with me/us what font you used on this thumbnail? I don't like my font and been manifesting the perfect font lol and I'm in love with this, truly!😢🤎☺️ Bautiful video!
Uhm, as I was scrolling by I noticed you were contrasting the magic and the down to earth of Practical magic, but it wasn’t a contrast or a contradiction, witches are earthy, their magic is nature. The two things walk hand in hand. Alright, I’m off to continue scrolling, 3 or 4 min is enough for me
Love Practical Magic the movie (apparently they are working on a sequel!) and the aesthetics/vibes are definitely part of its greatness. This video topic was perfect for me. If you think of more content on this specific topic, feel free to share! Thx.
Thank you for watching! What comes to mind for you when you think of the Practical Magic decor style? What did I miss? 😊
You missed brownies for breakfast!! Not decor, but definitely delicious. LoL. 💞

Hey Steffi. Thanks!
I loved the video. Personally didn't see any miss in the video. Do you shop any apothecaries? Pagan stores for decor?
Hi Steffi, FYI-Theres a 2nd Practical Magic in the works! I saw it with movies and interviews with the ladies! I'm very excited too!🎃😊
Whaaaat? I can't wait!!
YAY!!!
Me 3
As soon as I saw the interview with Nicole Kidman and she confirmed I was so very excited.
It's part of a 3 book series by Alice Hoffman

Dried plants and herbs, linens, lace, thrifted art & frames, glass bottles, bottles of herbs, warm lighting, dark colored rugs, old books, mahogany woods, natural pillar candles, velvet, tapestries, portraits, cobblestone, vintage tile, wrought iron, antique jars...
Best Practical Magic decor video out there!
Thank you so much! There are some really good ones out there, so that means a lot 🥰

Love, love, love this aesthetic!!! Excellent ideas for getting our witchy vibe on!
Love this style - its a real inspiration away from boring gray and beige. 💖💕 Edited to add: but isn't ordered takeout a form of magic? I think so. 💕
love the wallpaper. great video I love this style and thanks for this video.
My favorite House - Watched your video - and totally realized Im already halfway there!

I have never watched the movie, but I like when you compared the characters to lamps 👍
It's excellent.

Loved this video, Steffi, and the film "Practical Magic."
Your home is magical !! You have kick~ass taste. The lily of the valley behind you is stunning!

Just a thought: check out another UA-camr’s (Colette O’Neill) cottage in western Ireland. Bealtaine Cottage. Whimsical, enchanting!

What would have been nice was to see your apartment decorated this way!
Cool
Sadly, the Practical Magic house was a set...in Washington!
I love the style but keep thinking about cleaning and dusting all of that...
Why didn't you lead with the term Maximilionism. You know all that stuff.
🙏
