If you fill your space, no matter how small or large, with beautiful things that mean something to you and bring you joy, then you are doing it right. If you like minimalism, and that brings you joy, then you’re doing it right. Your symphony analogy is perfect.
Your ability to separate yet provide cohesiveness is a great skill for larger places as well. Making a large room into several smaller areas is similar to a studio. That's where I'm actually coming from: not a studio apartment, but a particular room that has to serve multiple purposes like a studio does. Great tips and insight! Thanks!
Your studio was just fabulous. I wanted to live there. Some look like hotel rooms with extras, but you arranged the space so that the bed didn’t dominate. I remember you doing a video demonstrating how you had arranged your artwork to give the illusion of separation between the “bedroom” and the living area. I’m not a maximalist, but I really admire your knack with decor; you have a lot of stuff on display, but everything blends so beautifully your homes never feel cluttered.
Yay! I saved this video until I could relax this afternoon. While I’m still not a real maximalist, you are bringing me over to the dark side bit by bit. I like YOUR maximalism anyway. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with your space in the next few weeks. I’ll be here every Sunday!
New subscriber - I’ve always been a maximalist. I am Getting ready to downsize from my huge family home to a much smaller cottage. I have many treasures that I love and I believed I would have to part with most of them. Now, I can see possibilities! Thanks!
I have to say, so good to see you back in your great form and good humor… So different from say a year ago going through such awfulness . today it really hit me that you are back girl!
Great topic!! Studied interior design and minimalist was a major part but never really wrapped my mind around maximilism you really broke it down easily. Thank you!
Girl, you had me at One Piece pillow🤣. Totally love it!!! I do pops of maximalism through out my house. I have a decent size house, but the areas are very small. Doing pops of layering, maximalism allowed me to express myself and my family to have spaces of calmness. Also, I don’t like a lot of flat spaces bcs they gather clutter, I have a couple of shelves on the wall for flat spaces to layer and decorate. And I love pictures, mirrors etc. to keep the flat spaces minimal!!! I’m a mini-maximalist 🤣🤣🤣
I am a retired professional designer. I still freelance projects. I love how you explain your process. Please remember the one of the most important factors, color and color combination. That is first and foremost, and what makes the actual process of stage, purchase, and collection of pieces work or fail. Bravo to you.
I’m not a maximalist, but I sure am a happy subscriber on your channel! I respect your celebration of beautiful design and get a lot of great ideas watching your videos. I’m also a professional classical musician, so the music references were fun! BTW, I am a bohemian minimalist. Your emphasis on pillows, wall coverings, wall art, and related textiles satisfy my bohemian heart and add a sumptuous quality to an interior that has very few furnishings.(my minimalist heart.) ❤
wow , I am soooo happy to find your channel, after all these decades of trying to limit myself in decor, and after doing without my colorful world, I feel excited and exhilarated to see that YES, it is possible to be colorful, whimsical, and have maximalistic fun and it makes me feel ALIVE!!!! Great video!!! you've unleashed me 😂🥰
I love the colors! I’ve always gone pastel because my husband says “think about resell”, so I never used dark or bold paint! And I absolutely love your use of art and linens to bring color into your space it’s dark walls!
Thanks for the great tips! I'm moving from a huge place into a small but open space. Very helpful because I'm NOT a minimalist :) I also loved the music metaphors :) Thank You!
Loved this video! ❤ I had a studio before and I did an old black Hollywood glam theme. After looking at your video, I really could have maximized those walls. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for the video, beautiful spaces presented and I love your presentation. How you used music to describe maximalism, it stuck with me and will be very helpful nailing this style because I love it
I am more of a minimlist, no stuff and neutral colors besides my plants. But i introduced green walls and suede pillows in different colors to give it more warmth. I love all the inspiration fotos you showed!!!
Great ideas for any size space! I just did a similar thing..added darker florals to my charcoal gray-blue pretty masculine, pretty modern bedroom and it’s interesting. It doesn’t look grandma because the colors are dark. But some of the elements are like English cottage florals, but a good portion are dark and bold. I love the result. And it started with pillows. Not quite, but a mix of deco, dark academia, and a new thing i just thought of…dark cottage core.
As always, Steffi, I appreciate your hints. I kind of knew about wall space, being an art lover. But your video really brought it to the forefront for me. I am soon to move from a 1400 SQ. FT. House to a 420 SQ. FT.. Studio. Of course this has me concerned 😱 but am trying to make a plan. if you took all of my art and put it into a studio, I would be a maximalist! Which I realize, would make me happy! 😃 BTW, in one of your Thumbnail photos, you look almost blonde. I thought OMG, that looks great on her! I would love to see you ( not maximalist blonde 😱) With just more highlights - higher like maybe up to your chin or ear, and more highlights. Just my thought 🤷. Thank you.
I'm a 63 year old massage therapist. I work 5 days a week. The original Lume is perfect for me as I don't sweat often. Please keep the original Lume recipe. I love it and only use the cream. Thank you.
You are a woman after my own heart. I love love colors. It seems like everyone has lost their minds and can't seem to be able to corporate colors into their lives. Everyone is like a robot with no minds of their own and are content to live in worlds of white, GRAY, black, tan, etc., a world of no color. How do they do it? Your eyes just can't be content without colors, lots of colors. BUT, here you are in a world of no color shinning brighter than the stars. So glad to have found you in my Recommend. Love Love what you do. Don't let ANYONE talk you away from colors. We are all out here loving all your colors. Stay true to you gurl. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💯💯🔥🔥🔥
One thing that I have to point out is how quickly uyen got good at crochet, like six months is amazing in my opinion to do the things that she does. I started crocheting roughly a year ago and I can’t make things nearly as complex of time consuming as she can. Like I have projects that I started weeks, maybe even mounts ago that I still haven’t finished, that should technically only take a couple hours. Anyways, love ur vids so much
The Apartment THERAPY, apartments other loud moment was also the cat😂❤, a cat or two is always the best maximalist accessory 😍😘 I have a small, cozy , maximalist apartment. I love art, gallery walls, tapestries on the ceiling, lots of hanging lanterns, and strings of beads, I kinda got a genie bottle vibe going on, maximalist style. Lots of different size mirrors mixed in with my gallery walls, I love color, so there’s plenty
Hello Steffi! I love your videos.....and always look for you on You Tube. The more you make, I am sure the more viewers you will have! I have followed you since you had your last apartment for several years!! Wow has the time gone fast. Anyway: love this topic today.....may I make a kind inquiry? Would it be alright to support the Max look, in a cute small space......but with Slipcovers on the Sofa and Chair if desired? They can be changed with the Seasons, and along with the Throw Pillows, are not so expensive as the beautiful Coach and Chairs that are in the Pinterest pictures that you used for examples. I just thought that if a person can not by any means afford the pieces.....(the furniture in those Pinterest Boards are wonderful. I wish I could afford the Green Couches!!) then they would have a way to decorate more modestly. Thanks! M.
I definitely think slip covers would be an option! I think the only thing that could potentially bother me personally is if the slip cover moves around and I have to constantly mess with it. But I'm sure there are some good options out there!
First time I’ve really seen this style. There is so much stuff that my eyes can’t rest anywhere, making me anxious and I don’t have anxiety. Is maximalism just a polite term for organized clutter. I can appreciate those folks that get comfort and peace from this style but to each their own.
lol in the same way minimalism is a polite term for bare & boring? It's in the eye of the beholder. If you don''t like it that's what you see. Altho a lot of the perception of it being visually "busy" or "loud" is because it uses a wider variety of more dramatic colours, pattens & textures. Not just that there's more "clutter".
Decor videos need visuals to demonstrate what's being talked about. If you know where to find royalty free photos of real studio apartments decorated specifically in the maximalist style, please let me know!
I'm not s fan of the throw pillow . Waste of $$ and space IMHO I'd rather spend the $ on wall art . I don't enjoy pillows on the love seat and they end up on the floor .
Thank you for watching! If you live in a studio (or any kind of small space), do you embrace any maximalist decor moments? What are they?
I live in a house 2300 sq ft! But, a maximamist! ❤
a small house but some rooms have to do double or even triple duty. Studio ideas really fly for us!
I live in a 280 Sq ft studio and I definitely lean more maximalist than minamlist.
Live in a tiny studio & keep minimalism to a minimum, eclectic visual artist but my first love is music so really enjoyed your video!
@@lorareynolds2351 sooo true!

Yes, often a small apartment filled with large, beautiful things will look bigger, not smaller.
This 'bring joy' stuff, isn't that Marie Kondo?

Thank you! You're so right, honestly pretty much all of my small space tips can be applied in any sized space 😉
Love, love, love your walls
You're the best your design elements can go from a studio to a cottage or house, anywhere , you are so talented
Thank you so much! 😊

Love your 'tude!!! I don't have a studio, but only have 850 sq ft and went boho sentimental maximalism (my term). I'm in love with my home.
I love your term -Boho sentimental Maximalism. That should become part of design vernacular!
I am so happy I found your page. THIS IS EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED IN A SPACE!❤️❤️❤️

Very good information

It’s about SCALE. Color. Texture. Larger furniture scale than you would expect. Not small pieces. Organized small decor pieces.
Love it. But correction! You are not living alone! Introduce that kitty!

hi Steffi
you didn't introduce your cat
No tv or closet. One kitty tail.

😂Hilarious, my question is where is this & how much are you paying monthly? If here in 🗽🏙, good luck with that! Beautiful Though!❤
