    Would love to see a price range around $500 - $800 USD comparison this would be a good quality TV of decent size but obviously not projector big but this is where most people spend when wanting a good TV before jumping up a serious price bracket. Your reviews are amazing and you have covered low price, next bracket up from low price, then higher end. I guess what is the best projector for a room with natural light some but not full sun for the lowest price point? the Nexigo pj40 looks great I just wonder how it holds up when adding another $200 to the competition options.
    Keep up the amazing work

    This video came in very handy as I was looking to replace my Acer H5380BD 720p projector, that I purchased for $397 back in the summer of 2015. The bulb was dying and the fan noise was loud, so my goal was to find a native 1080p unit at $300 or less, with less fan noise. This video helped me decide on the Groview 818C which arrived today- just set it up tonight. I'm pleased with it EXCEPT the fan noise is even louder than the old Acer! The projector sits only 4-5 feet from our heads, so it sounds REALLY loud, almost to the point where it's a dealbreaker and I'm thinking of returning it. But of all 11 units tested for this video, the 818C was the quietest at only 40.1 db... which means the 45-46 db ones must sound like vacuum cleaners! How did fan noise in projectors get even louder in the past 8 years?

But i found they made an updated version of the pj30. Which by what they say are the specs, 100 ansi lumens per the company, along with included apps. Well, i purchased it with coupons under $300. I will have to say after watching your videos and the pj40 staying on top for the most part. I'm blown away with the picture quality of this one. Seems they heard what you said and corrected issues. I understand the cons of the epson, but since I only intend to use while exercising in the garage and I will not be turning off the light in the garage when I need to see what I'm doing. I think out of those options the epson is actually the best option for my use case, especially when I finally got see what the projectors looked like in a brighter room and the epson looked so much nicer. I do wish it was a bit cheaper than the $300 it costs, but it still looks worth it to me. And in a few years I might be able to replace it with a more expensive projector🤷🏾‍♀

On 12-13-23 the screen developed a blue haze right in the center. It seems to be getting worse day by day. I am not 100% sure what the problem is but it did not last even 3 months before developing a problem.

    Bummed that this channel didn't come up in my search for new projector info, but I ended up getting the PJ40 so it felt nice to get a little reassurance here. I built a dirt cheap home theater back in 2019 and while the Vankyo Leisure 510 did a great job at $180, it was always a placeholder in an experimental setup. And it was starting to develop a dim spot. The PJ40 wasn't a huge step up or anything, but once I got it all dialed in (don't forget to set the EDID at 2.0 to get all the features!) it's working great. Plus, they improved input lag with a firmware update!

    I purchased the PJ40 and it came with two dead pixels right out of the box, it’s also concerning that a lot of people have updated their Amazon reviews after the screen starts to go orange and dead pixels start to pop up after 4 months or so. Seems like most of the 5 star reviews are based on out of the box impressions instead of after having it for a while and it seemingly not holding up. I’ll be returning mine and possibly replacing it to see if I get one without any defects out of the box. I do have concerns that it won’t last 6 months however

A simple single LCD like the yaber ace k1 - which I prefer - let you get a cinematic experience with really good contrast and colours for 300 bucks in every room of your home thanks to those keystone features. No bulp change anymore which let you no worry any more about following costs. Incredible, this technology is from measuring and calculating to get the best image evolved to real plug'n play. And sure, you also can spend thousands of bucks today's for your home cinema, but for me, I like these China projectors. Sure, I also got an Epson at home but in the night it's so dam bright for my tiered eyes. My gammabai VAST is so much more comfortable to watch at night.
    Personally I started to project for 5 years, and now I'm addicted to the big screen experience. 130 inch in my living room, 90 ich in my bedroom. I think i need one for my bathroom now, cause sometimes I take a longer seat there 💩

      Projector lover here! I've been rocking my Sony HW40ES 1080P projector for many years on a 135" screen. For my main PC, I sit in front of an 8K 75" screen all day. I love that for work, but it is too small to watch movies/TV with! For me, giant screen + good 1080p is > 4K or 8K and HDR to the moon. I will eventually upgrade to a great 4K projector, but no rush.

    I bought your top 3 projectors n the Epson for outdoor movie nights. On a 360" screen the epson was ha ds down the only usable projector. the nexigo was the 2nd best but ways beneath the epson, it didn't do well with any ambient light the epson is leauges better imo and can be used an hr before sundown the others can't

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Рік тому

      It really depends on your use case. The Epson is 6x brighter (3000 lumens vs 500), so it will of course do better in bright situations. However, if you wanted to use the projector in a darkened room the Epson would be pretty terrible due to its poor contrast and bad black levels.

    UK Buyers beware - Rob's links (which I'm sure were correct at time of writing) lead to product pages that MIGHT not be correct. I think some Amazon sellers engage in bait-and-switch! For example the Groview 818C link leads to a product with a long title, but no actual model number. When you read the description it look very similar. But the seller has stated in one of the Q&As that the actual product is the RD881 which is the other Groview that Rob spoke about. Just saying - exercise great caution!
    Seems like the most difficult thing here is sourcing one of Rob's recommendations, at least here in the UK! All of the products linked to are either sold out, not yet available (PJ40) or price is about 3 times the one mentioned here.
    I think that Amazon sellers AND the manufacturers really need to up their game in terms of buyer trust - it's not good!

    With current tv prices and 4k being extremely expensive relatively in a projector, I find myself leaning towards tvs more and more for any budget below $1000. Controlling lighting is almost always not done for most people, replacing bulbs is almost always not the same as having the projector new from the factory, dust accumulation is also likely to ruin the user experience (fan noise becomes unbearable) in most cheap projectors as they do not have adequate protection. Factor in the cost of a decent screen and you find yourself better off with a 75" tv that does have 4K and that does not give you all this headache. Remeber that most of the allure of buying a projector is to have that 'cinema-like' large screen experience, so unless you have at least a usable 100" 4k image, it becomes a difficult proposition. It is also difficult to recommend them as a replacement for tvs since most people want light in their living rooms/family rooms.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Рік тому +7

      I used to think that as well, but based off of UA-cam comments I think it is becoming increasingly more common for people to buy a projector for a space that cannot accommodate a TV. People are projecting onto ceilings and walls that don't have nearby power. I agree that up to 75" a TV is going to be a better "Bang for the buck" in terms of clarity and brightness, but sometimes a TV just isn't going to work in a space, and a $200 projector putting up a 75" image still looks pretty good for a fraction of the price of a 75" TV.

    I don't like single LCD projectors since they always have a focus problem. the image is super blurry at the corner, and the brightness is fairly low too. at $300-$400, i'd rather go for a small DLP projectors from anker nebula, kodak luma, aaxa, epson, etc. those projectors are a lot brighter

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Рік тому +1

      I own most of those projectors that you listed, you won't find comparable brightness (575+ ANSI) for less than $450 with a DLP projector. The AAXA M7 when plugged in can push 650 ANSI lumens but it sounds like a jet engine doing it. The Luma 450 is less than 200 ANSI lumens for $550.

  • @Not-just-doing-I.T.
    @Not-just-doing-I.T. 10 місяців тому

    Excellent comparison. Trying to do this as an average consumer is impossible, especially given the absolute lies the sellers are happy to give in their descriptions (eg Amazon UK, PJ40 specified as 700 ANSI, and that may be the most honest!!).
    Have you had the time to do a similar review for the end of 2023, or has there been so little change in the market? One that has caught my eye is the Omnistar L80, would be great if you have an in-depth review of this. I have been waiting for a 'value' projector that can be used in daylight, but thinking it doesn't exist yet.

    Your thorough reviews are SO much better than any others I’ve seen for projectors. My hat’s off to you. FYI: I got the NexiGo PJ20 recently and it worked for 2 weeks before a large bright white dot appeared on the display that wouldn’t move or go away. Had to return it. Oddly enough, 2 of the 3 Tenker projectors I also purchased for our Halloween digital decorations also had a similar problem, but in large black spots or lines so I wound up returning 3 of the 4 projectors I purchased all in a 2 week span. All were used indoors and were well cared for so it’s baffling to have a 75% failure rate in 2 weeks across 2 brands. I’m curious if I’m the only person living in this Devils Triangle or if others have similar problems.

    Thank you for this kind of work; it's much needed. I'm interested in the Groview, but I don't know whether you tested the RD881 or the JQ881C. At the 1:27, 2:00, 3:07, and 4:03 marks in your video, you picture the RD881, which is listed on Amazon at $190. At the 4:52 mark and in the side-by-side test at the 6:01 mark, you list the Groview model as just "881C," which would be a reference to the JQ881C. At the 10:55 mark, you show the Groview JQ881C. Can you provide any clarification on this? I'd like to purchase the Groview JQ881C for $140, but I can't be sure that what you tested isn't the Groview RD881.
