Bishop Barron began teaching at Mundelein seminary the first year I was a student there, 1992 I took all of his classes, recorded them and typed out all of his lectures. I think I took six or seven of his classes in my 5 years at the seminary. He always taught that there are three ways or routes of access to God, goodness truth and beauty. In our Church we have at times forgotten or de-emphisized to our loss the beauty of our Catholic faith. Yet if it is truth that captures the mind and goodness that captures the will it is beauty that captures the imagination. This I what Bishop Barron is doing, he gets this from Hans Urs von Balthasar, using the beauty of the Catholic faith to evangelize and convert our imaginations to Christ and his Church, nice review, thank you.
I really appreciate your thoughts. I’m sympathetic to some traditional arguments, but I’m not really a traditionalist. I agree with everything you said! This is a beautiful Bible and breathes new life into core Catholic teachings and traditions. Blessings.
Wonderful, moving commentary, I just ordered this book, I think it will do a lot of good, Thank you for your good words - n you talk is not long and what you say is heart warming and uplifting! We need much more of this, so I look forward to receiving this Gospel book! ❤❤❤❤❤
This truly is a work of art. :) I understand it’s hard to put words to it when you are holding this Bible. As you put it here “It is worthy of the word of God” . I love all the commentary that helps you dive into the word page by page. Talk about immersion in the word. Also thank you for mentioning that it is all pre-Vatican II. I love the interview of Bishop Barron in the show and I am truly thankful for him. God bless you.
I just bought Vol 3 WOF The Pentateuch. I decided to start with this one because he said in his video introducing this volume that he thought it was the most beautiful of the three. I’m reading it cover to cover and its so easy to read - no footnotes, each page is eye pleasing, and amazing reflections, commentary and art the that enlightens and elevates The Word. He said this Bible can be read like a novel. I’ll buy the other two when I finish Vol 3. Thank you for your review. Edit: I highly recommend Vol 3
Great review, thoroughly enjoyed it. Delighted I found this channel. It's a beautiful bible, a living work of Art. I'm looking forward to my copy of it!
Thank you for doing this review!! I am more traditional and have only heard bad things about Bishop Barron and some of the things he has said and no traditionalists have put a review out for this, but I am intrigued by this edition of the Gospels. I'm sold, I'm giving it a chance.
Honestly I just listened to a lecture Bishop Barron gave on John Henry Newman it was very erudite and very good! I could find no fault with it on the contrary. I just got the Word on Fire Reader on Pope Benedict, with Bishop Barron's foreword, again: wonderful book, accessible ( Pope Benedict not always easily accessible) so another great gift of a book! I am wholly converted to Bishop Barron! ❤
Thank you for this video! I asked for this for Christmas! Bishop Barron has said some questionable things in the past but he has done so much good for evangelization. He needs our prayers❤ I don't mean that in a negative way. Also, I'm glad to connect with an Irish Catholic on UA-cam. I will be subscribing. P.S. I'm absolutely obsessed with Ireland after we visited in 2018. My favorite place on earth.
@@KillerofGods well. The biggest thing is in the nrsv the translators used gender neutral terms in certain places. Like instead of "Son of Man" in Daniel it has Son of a human being. That's one example which is the Old Testament and the Word on Fire Bible is only the New Testament but their are other odd translation decisions like that. Which I can read past but am not a fan of it.
@@jenniferrogoff8459 Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of that either... So far I'm really liking my RSV2CE version on my first Catholic bible. I'll still probably pick this up as long as the commentary is good.
Would love this set of gospels, the shipping to Ireland is crazy though. Would be fantastic if Veritas started to stock it. Sales would be through the roof 👌🏼✝️💫
I only wish that they offered different translation options for this Bible aside from NRSV-CE! RSV-2CE would be most welcome, or the increasingly popular ESV-CE.
Yeah we cant go against Vatican II. It's an ecumenical council! What are we saying about God's promise for His Church. We are probably misunderstanding the documents if we think there is heresy in it.
Ej, ej, why do you have a Polish Bible? I'm very curious. Is your heritage Polish? And tell me - wchich polish catholic Bible? Is that from the priest Jakub Wujek's Bible (1599), Millenium Bible, Warsaw-Prague's Bible (bp Casimir Romaniuk's Bible) or pauline Bible?
He forgot to clarify this is just the gospels if you don’t have a Bible and looking to buy one don’t buy this one since you will pay over 60 dollars for just the gospels.
I am sure it is otherwise a great Bible BUT he chose an inclusive-language version - the NRSVCE - for the text of the Bible itself. I generally like Bishop Barron and his ministry but there are exceptions. This is one of them.
It's truly sad that we laity have to question the validity of what's put on the pages , but once you discovered what happened in 1962 , our fears are well founded. I bought it. It's utterly gorgeous. Thanks for your review.
@@thecatholicman My older aunt and uncle calls themselves “traditional Catholics” and have a huge distrust towards the pope, and have beliefs towards the church which they would prefer to revert back towards. I prefer to just say catholic, it unites all forms of people into one house. The sooner we start to create these lines and orthodoxy the sooner we’ll have a split household. Not trying to insinuate bad thoughts upon those who love tradition practices in mass, we should all love our sacred tradition. Good video otherwise. Cheers
@@nicholasjohnson2497 I am no expert but I agree, there have been various popes throughout the history of the Church all of them have been placed there through God's will. One of the popes when questions about certain "bad" popes said something along the lines of. "God has used bad popes to do good things". Any time there's some sort of debate about this, be it about the pope, parishes, or any elders/members of the church I try to point people to Paul's letter to the Romans which is extremely helpful. @@nicholasjohnson2497I love the C S Lewis book " Mere Christianity" it replies to much of the nonsense you hear these days. So from this perspective I absolutely support the traditionalists, the lay faithful are suffering to-day and have done so for a long time, I am afraid!😢
Why you would endorse Bishop Barron is beyond me. “Now that Barron has publicly endorsed a book on prayer by Fr. James Martin, he has absolutely no credibility for orthodox Catholics,” declared LifeSite columnist Dr. Peter Kwasniewski, an outspoken Thomistic theologian, liturgical scholar, author, and Church commentator, in a Facebook posting. “ I could go on.
