Saints Row VS Grand Theft Auto - Series Showdown

- Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the What's It Like arena where we are hosting our first free-to-view Series Showdown!
In one corner, wearing the "Definitive Edition" Shorts is a Trilogy that needs no introduction, somewhat classic, somewhat controversial, but always original, Grand Theft Auto! In the other corner, sporting the "Purple Package" trunks is Saints Row, often reduced to being called a GTA Clone. Does it have what it takes to set itself aside from GTA and grab Switch owner's attention?
With that in mind... Let's get ready to rumble! - Ігри
Saints Row 1 and 2 are the only Saints that count. Absolutely perfect games, no matter how they were penned as GTA clones.
Would you say if it was 1 & 2 up against the GTA trilogy then Saints would have won? I think Saints 2 was incredible
While I entirely agree with 1 and 2 being perfect games, I don't think it's fair to discount 3, 4, or GOoH. They set out to be fun, unserious sandbox games with minimal consequences and to give the player a feeling of godhood. Which they did very well.
Thats a really good perspective too. I struggled to enjoy 4, but that's just down to personal preference and not design. I really enjoyed 3's mission structure

I think GTA had terrible reviews in relation to performance, pop in etc. I know you referenced it isn't great, but did they somewhat patch it to improve since launch
It's vastly improved upon launch and has that classic legacy that carries it too. While the "updated graphics" made it lose some charm, the gameplay and great writing still holds up!
@whatsitlikeau wish the big review sites would update reviews like this. I would never have know it had improved and wouldn't think of getting it

The only reason gta defective edition lost to the abomination that is shitsrow3 is cause sr3 is actually playable. Gods how I hate sr3, the moment where volition went tumbling down hill
Would you say it's because they moved to a more "shock value" style of gameplay instead on focusing on the core experience? They lost me at 4 with the superpowers to be honest.
@@whatsitlikeau ''Shock value'' the only shocking thing about the game is how much of a massive downgrade it is. No day n night cycle, no reloading saves to change the time of day doesnt count. No mission replays, have to rely on mods. No unique appropriate civilian npcs. Weaker clothing choices. Choosing to dual wield guns lock you out from single handling them. The map looks the same, try n guess if your on lucha's turn or star's without using the map. The story not being able to come to the conclusion if it wants to be pants on head regarded or dramatic, even then its dramatic scenes are weak, so weak I couldnt even name one, the twin getting killed(?).
Prototype was is and will be the better sr4.
@aliekexie8467 I did notice it was always night! I thought it was just me on SR3. My only experience with it is on the Switch and I didn't get to play it back in the day. All valid points, and also baffling design choices
Nicely made video! But there is literally no way to compare gta to saints low lmao. I recently played both but SR is just so boring. I could not make it through half of the game, maybe I am too old for it already. Even when I was like 9 I was so bored of SR. Maybe its for younger kids
Thank you. It's hard to compare! I think SR relies a lot on shock value that wears thin whereas GTA has a solid narrative to invest the player. I think it would have been better to compare if we had some of the earlier Saints games on Switch as well

I loved saints row 3, I think gta 5 took a lot of inspiration from it
GTA V is amazing. What influences do you think they picked up? They definitely refined the shooting to make it more action packed.
@@whatsitlikeau mainly the vehicles and the gadgets. Saints row was always a more comedic take with futuristic cars/weapons. I feel gta v did something similar this time around with the deluxo, oppressor, ray guns ect

Only comparing the Switch offerings for handheld comparison. I mention the other several times though, and even said if Saints 2 was on Switch it would have been too close ot call
Comparing Saints Row to GTA is like comparing dog shit to gold.
Franchise as a whole for sure, but the Switch Platform games I think are fairly comparable. GTA V in my opinion is one if the best games ever created
Agreed, GTA V is insanely good and was so successful. Some things are best left un-Switched! 😅👌

bra Rockstar clearly took some inspiration from Saint's Row for GTA V, you forget however that in its hey day, Saint's Row was a legit competitor to GTA, SR 2 being among the best sandbox games ever made
@@dawoodwilliams3652 I think thats a fair claim. As gameplay mechanics evolved I think both series took inspiration from each other.
