Battlegroups! They're complicated, hard to remember, but can provide some extremely useful tools. In the gameplay footage, you can see them as the square icons on the right of the screen with the yellow diamond to spend. My suggestion for a new player? Just pick one. Doesn't matter which one. Just pick it right as soon as the game starts, and spend your points on whatever. I learned how to use them better just by using them, where as trying to read through all the skills, units, tree options, etc. just left me paralyzed and not making any decision. So just go with the flow and learn as you go!

The negativ cover at 4:13 is missleading. It means height disadvantage, look at the enemy unit it has the orange symbol for height advantage. Real negativ cover dont exist in COH3, but it did in COH2. If the enemy unit would attack from another (lower) angle, the red "negativ" Cover symbol would not appear.
This is correct! But what do we call it? Since there isn't any negative cover in the game (like being out on an open road like previous games). Calling it Height Disadvantage seems awkward.

I am obsessed with this game. Haven't played any of them (1,2, nor 3) and don't own a laptop/pc cause of wife, but I think I am getting on just to play this game.
Personally, I'd say if a player is not using the map, they're playing wrong. You can queue up movement and capture orders to all units across the map via the tactical map screen, very quickly. If you play a player and wonder how he seems to be micro-ing a fight where you are, and yet still able to capture and attack the other side of the map at the same time, this is why.
@@spybaz actually yes I see you can do quite a bit from the mini-map! I tried experimenting. I still find it a bit quicker to use the tactical map as you can select units from there and it pops up centrally, so it was still faster in some instances. But the mini map is useful in a pinch I guess, if you don't want to do a lot at once. Probably helps that I have assigned a mouse button to the tactical map. But hey, you do you. I'm no expert. It's good it's there as an option.
Red Cover is to do with height advantage...or actually disadvantage. It means your unit is being shot at from high ground and thus has no cover benefits. It's a strange one!
Can someone answer me a question please? On console and on the trailers i see low camera angles, i can see the distance in the battle. In the actual game i can only tilt the camera very minimally and only zoom out so much? Is it broken or is it just stripped back? Does it wok on pc?
Everything is set to max and the video can be seen in 4k resolution. The graphics of the game has been updated since this video so it looks even better! Not sure if this helps!
It's the least APM demanding RTS. Economy is based on capturing more of the map instead of creating harvesters inside your base and managing them. Which means almost all of your time is spent fighting on the map. The better you fight on the map. The more economy you get. So you can devote as much APM as you want to the combat part.
While I disagree about making use of the tactical map, these tips are all very important. Been playing since about 2011 or so, basically never used the tactical map (But I'm also terrible at fighting players and only do PvE, so grain of salt and all that)

Tbh I just don’t understand the co op vs ai. Tried to play in a 4v4 and we got destroyed every time by the ai. But to be fair I’ve only been playing for an hour lol
It's ok to retreat squads if you have lost a battle. Better they retreat early than get killed. Losing a squad is way worse.
Agreed! im also new and just started the game. lol 😅 and retreating them with 1 soldier hurts ur feeling and the “💪” icon lol

You can select the unit and either right click the enemy or right click-drag in the desired direction!

A laptop PC is such a great thing to have! With two Laptops and PC's you can challenge your wife to Company of Heroes 3!
