Don't purchase. You can't replace the battery without surgery. The battery is welded to the mini board. Nope. Not when the price is around $70. 2 stars.

Mine lasted just under a year. They mailed me a replacement it and said it had a 3 yr warranty. New tile arrived today (no box or anything), I will be replacing the non replaceable battery in the old one later today.
Good luck. How did it go? The ones I've opened don't do well for long after they been broken open. Even if glue back together the sound disc is never the same. Its a lot easy buying the Pro.

I understand your point about the replaceable battery, but realistically, all of these will be obsolete in 2-3 years anyway, and we'll all be looking to purchase the newest model with features that haven't even occurred to us yet.
Great comment and point! I've thought about this, too, but what gives a company the right to force their customers to upgrade a piece of hardware that is still supported by most phones? Yes, technology moves very fast, and there will always be new features, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't use old stuff. (Do you buy a new car every 3 years cause your battery died? Your car has new features.) Maybe I want to use it myself, maybe I want to hand it down or give it to a friend that can't afford the latest and greatest tech, but cause Tile wants to make more money, they force people to buy new ones. They have already made trackers with replaceable batteries, so making ones without that ability is simply doing so for profits cause not one customer is asking for a tracker with a non-replaceable/non-rechargeable battery.
@@TrackThisNThat In all fairness, the 2020 Tile Mate with the replaceable battery will need a new battery every year according to spec. The 2022 Tile Mate is supposed to function for 3 years. You're right that some customers will still be using it after 3 years. They'll spend $2 per Tile to replace the battery in each Tile every year. Maybe the battery won't die when something needs to be tracked (like their $500 luggage). I don't buy a new car every 3 years, but it's not an electronic gadget. Something this small will likely be lost, stolen, damaged, or will fail within 3 years. Maybe not, but I will likely want to replace it after 3 years for $15 to get the latest features and a new battery that will probably last longer than 3 years. Now, what does drive me up the wall is leasing software with an annual purchase, or leasing cable tv set top boxes forever, or procuring medical services without knowing the cost of procedures in advance. These are all much more expensive than $15. In any event, Google will probably come out with a version that is much better than Tile, or Galaxy Tag, or the AirTag in 2023. I've heard rumors. Every electronic product gets leapfrogged eventually. And then that product gets purchased by Amazon, Google, Microsoft, or Apple - and the cycle repeats.

Stupid question. Can you switch your Bluetooth off on your phone, then switch it on and use the app to find the tile?
No such thing as a stupid question. Yes, it will reconnect to your phone when you turn your bluetooth back and and tile app is running as long as its within bluetooth range of your phone. Keep in mind, other tile app user do update the location history if you are subscribe to the PAID service.

This is NOT A GPS TRACKER! This is a BLUETOOTH Tracker. There are major differences, and they are not for stolen Items!
Does a tile mate device connects to any Android phone on the street with Bluetooth to give location information? Or it connects only to other tile users? Then the chance would be really low to track your luggage etc.

The Tile Pro is the option to go for but only if use android. If you're an iPhone using, use a AirTag, Chipolo One Spot or Pebble Clip

No, that's not true. You can track via Bluetooth nearby and from far with other Tile users nearby. But if you want smart alerts of a 30-day history, then you will need the subscription. However, The 30 history and most of the other premium features are NOT worth it, and Smart Alerts SHOULD BE FREE!

So annoyed that I can't replace the battery. I got this only 6 months ago and it's already saying the battery is dead!
You have an one year warranty. I would immediately put in a claim and don’t take no for an answer. If it’s giving you a battery warning already there is something wrong. Next time buy the pro version.

Do these work beyond bluetooth? Do they use gps? I want something very small like this to hide in my car discreetly so i can see exactly where it is if my car is ever stolen, since thieves can disable the factory tracking software in under a minute. If they dont go past bluetooth range, what is a good idea?

@TrackThisNThat like I said I'd have it in an almost impossible place to find. Like I'd have a hole cut in the floorboard under a seat you couldn't see the edges of and in there would be the device.
@@og-bg6.2 There are simple apps on people's phones that can find bluetooth tracker in seconds even if its hidden, and GPS trackers with celluar communication can be found too with a little more skill, but thats the best thing right now unless you want to go to a professional system. Don't fall for fake peace of mind.

Yep, it's silly. I don't know why they went back into their old ways. The Tile Pro is the better option.
Can you link the tile mate to two phones? As in my phone, and my wife's phone?
You can share your Tile with 1 person for free. They charge to share with more people. But Tiles can only connect to one phone at a time. If both are within Bluetooth range, it will usually connect to the one with a stronger signal.

So the battery is not replaceable. That's a deal breaker. I just picked up two of these trackers from Amazon for a dollar and ten cents each. Yes they are Chinese but with good reviews and the battery can be replaced.
There are many brands and lots of knock offs, but they are not even close to reliabitly and performace. Watch out!

Anything is possible, but since its not designed to pry open, it will never be the same. I would just buy the pro so you can change the battery without issues.
I’ve seen a tutorial on how to do this-the two halves of the unit were designed to snap together, so you can use a plastic spudger to carefully pry them apart.
The battery is soldered onto the circuit board, so you will have to unsolder the old battery and solder a new one in place.
@@DrLove0378 Also, make sure you don't damage the sound disc, have on hand glue you'll need to put the two halves back together, and then hope and pray it will still work. As I said, spend the extra few bucks and get the pro.

I used Marlboro Rewards points (collected from discarded packs) to get the Tile, thinking I’d get the “replaceable battery” version as advertised-alas, that’s not what I received. Oh well.

Can you receive updates from the tracker even above 76m? I would like to buy trackers to track my luggages in the plane or between hotels when I'll travel to Japan next year, a bit like how MegaLag did with AirTags when he sent one to Apple, SpaceX and North Korea
Sure, it is possible to get an update midflight but you need to understand how these work, what they communicate with, how that communication is done, and the unlikelihood that it all will, especially for a small community like Tile. Remember these are BLUETOOTH trackers! They are NOT a GPS trackers with cellular communication or any other communication except BLUETOOTH!

What I had in mind since I'll be traveling with someone else and we're allowed 2 luggages in the planes, was one in each luggages so 4 in total but I imagine it's still not enough to "form" a real network and send back the informations from a longer distance that what is specified for the bluetooth distance.
@@AlexRonaiIt's unlikely, but possible. Having more Tiles does not make it a stronger signal. It's not the Tiles that make up the network/community, it's the Tile users/app that do. They each only communicated with someone's cell phone running the Tile app, then that's person cell phone has to be connected to the internet to transmit the the phone's GPS location where it connected with the Tile. So it needs a lot of things to work and line up perfectly to work in flight, but there are a lot of ifs and hurdles so it's unlikely.

Do you understand that these are Bluetooth trackers, so a Tile user has to be within Bluetooth range to anonymously update the location. These are NOT GPS trackers with cellular communication, which is the minimum I would recommend for expensive assets. Does Tile Mate 2022 or 2021 work inside luggage on an international flight to Europe
Since you want to place it inside luggage, I would recommend the pro version since it has a longer range and has a better chance of doing better getting through the suitcase, other luggage, and all the metal of the airplane. You can go into the tile app and see if the luggage is loaded onto the plane. I do this all the time when I travel. As soon as we push back from the gate, I check the app. The one time it didn't work, it actually wasn't on board. When I got to my destination, I tracked it and it went to the wrong airport. It got delivered to me, that evening. But, with that being said, all the planes I've used the Tile pros on have been domestic flights so I've never used it only the huge 747 or a380. *Also understand though these are Bluetooth trackers and not GPS trackers* and it relies on other Tile users. So other Tile users have to be within Bluetooth range to get a location update when it goes to the wrong airport or doesn't get loaded.

@@marleneknight2077 A couple things to remember with cellular GPS trackers, they connect to cell towers so you need to make sure you find one that has international service in the countries you're traveling to and make sure you pay for that service. 2. GPS trackers need access to the skies. Being inside a suitcase and an airplane will block it for the most part. It's possible when it comes off the plane it might have a chance to get a GPS signal before the luggage goes inside a building, but who knows for sure? I've tracked packages I've shipped with GPS trackers activated before shipment and I did get updates now and then but there was no way for me to check its accuracy cause the GPS tracker will show its last location (when it loses GPS or cellular connect) even if it's not its current location.

I had the white version and when it was time to change the battery you need King Kong to help you open the battery compartment. I was never able to open it. Tile even sent me the free battery but never able to open the battery compartment. So that was most annoying.
The Tile Mate 2022 doesn't have a replaceable battery.

I was able to open mine. It's just glued together. Used my nails all around the edges and it opens. The battery is welded to the terminals so that's hard to remove too. Good luck.

Only if an active Tile user or Tile Access Point is within Bluetooth range. Just remember these are Bluetooth trackers, not GPS trackers with cellular connection. The only way these connect is with Bluetooth! About 30 feet or less when put in luggage.
