AJ i just want to let you know that this 1zz rebuild guide is amazing i have never seen someone really show it step by step explaining everything along the way i felt like i was in school and i mean that in the purist of ways please keep informing and teaching it really means alot to me
Wow… best comment ever. Thanks for watching and commenting. Pls subscribe and lmk if u need any race car parts. Btw, there’s more MRS content coming soon. Pls stay tuned. Thx again, AJ
Nice. It’s a pretty straight forward motor and it’s a good time. It can get tedious at times, but make a master list and stay focused w goals. Thx for watching and commenting. Pls subscribe. Thx AJ
Very cool. I have a 1ZZ-FE engine in my 2006 Matrix which has 199,513 miles and still runs perfect. 5k OCI with full synthetic and oem filter. Best car ever.
How come Toyota doesn't just use ft. Pounds of torque like most American engines in place of degrees of angle, it always as if the bolt might wring off before the proper torque is applied?
@@jamesbennett9654 They are different. Bolts are generally torqued to a specific ft-lbs, and your done, but some bolts require additional torque which is more accurately applied by a specified amount of additional angle vs additional ft-lbs of torque. Also, Toyota does use torque specs on their nuts and bolts. They are usually given in N-m or ft-lbs (or both).
@@jeffpack5714 it seems you aren’t ordering parts from the dealership. FYI 95% of the parts for the 1ZZ are still available from the dealership and aftermarket. This 1ZZ build proves it. I listed all the part numbers used. Good luck
Very unlikely bc I don’t have an automatic transmission. However, rebuilding auto transmissions is not difficult. In fact, I’d say it’s easier than rebuilding an engine. Just follow the OE manual and you will be fine. Good luck.
Thx for commenting and watching. Pls subscribe. Did u watch Part 1? I measured the bores in Part 1 and showed my results. If u are asking if a tapered bored can be bored straight, I’d suggest opening to the next size up and consulting w ur local machine shop.
@@RelentlessRacingAJ I did see that after I wrote that comment. I noticed it's actually wider on the bottom. I'm very green to all this but I was indeed wondering if its possible to bore a tapered bore and whether the that info is normally in the manuals.
@@charlesdarwin1467 bores shouldn’t start as tapered. Bored become tapered after running after lots of miles. Also, it’s difficult to check the machine shop’s work bc some machine shops use a torque plate when they measure the bores. Once the torque plate is removed the bores are no longer round bc the block flexes. Find a good machine shop and have them show u the bores are the correct size, round, and straight while the torque plate is on. I use Dan Benson in Idaho for all my race engines.
@@RelentlessRacingAJ If the bore is tapered from the factory it should be narrower towards the cylinder head. This is done to compensate for thermal expansion since the heads get hotter. Same thing with cam ground pistons the bosses have less mass. So I honestly dont know if those kind can be bored or if its normally mentioned in the manuals.
@@charlesdarwin1467 I’m not aware of tapered bores from the factory but they may exist. I work on older piles of junk and race em. The older motors I work w never have tapered bores.
Would it be possible to replace trust bearings while the engine is in the car? When I take the oil pan off I have easy access to the rod bearings so the thrust bearings shouldn't be too hard, right?
@@simbarashechisasa117 I’m sorry, but it is impossible to diagnose a motor issue over the internet. I recommend taking your vehicle to a qualified mechanic in your area. Thx AJ

I have a 1zz engine 1.8 2001 and I am having the hardest time finding parts for it
Which parts are you looking for? Have you checked a dealership?
Yes I have checked with dealers
It seems every port I find does not seem to fit my engine

You mentioned you bored the cylinder to a desired size. How did you verify weather it's a tapered bore or straight bore? Can a tapered bore be bored?

Curious where you are located and if you build engines as a business, or as an individual.
I’m in SoCal. I build engines for my project cars and would consider working on someone else’s motor for the right price.

Not possible… the thrust bearings are encapsulated by the girdle or bearing cap subassembly. Pls subscribe. Thx AJ
