First of all, thank you for for being foster parents. Those kids get so little stability and comfort in their lives, constantly being shifted place to place. Giving them a safe place even for a little while is so important.
I guess I should talk about the vase, too 😁 I'm not a wood crafter but it's always fascinated me. I appreciate how you "read" the piece of wood before starting and point out the flaws and features, why you mount it in a given way, and what tools you're using and why.
I admit, whenever you reach for any sort of coloring agent I go NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! because I like wood to be wood colored, but the ebonized finish with the silver wax came out quite well. Reminds me of owl feathers.

Thanks so much, fostering can be very hard work but it is always worth it. We have two sisters that have been with us for 5 years now and we are so proud of how far they have come 😀

@@MikeHolton You are absolutely right. We did this in our family, too, for about six or seven years and took care of children in critical situations until it was cleared where they can stay permanently. Some for just a few days or weeks, some for one or more years. In total it were eight children (besides our own three). With some of them we are in contact until today. In other cases sadly we don't know where they are now and how they are doing. But we still like to think of all of them and we hope their lifes got enriched by the time in our family as much as our lifes were enriched by having them in our home.

@@drucker03 We are the same, some of the children we are still in touch with and others we are not, I would love to know where they all are but that is not to be.

I love this vase vase because you've done two things. You've made look like Ironstone pottery with the ebonising fluid, and the carving makes the texture interesting. With the addition of the silver wax enhancing both dimensions adding the subtle highlight and that satin sheen. So it's not only beautiful to look at but enjoyable to the touch. It reminds me of Studio pottery pieces where the glaze enhances the form and texture. Nice job, Mike. 👍

I learned something new... I did not know the ebonising process worked with cherry too!
    Great piece, Mike.

Striking piece, never knew about ebonised cherry! Your hesitation before starting the cuts reminded me of my hesitation when starting to draw with proper brush pens - so pleased it worked out as well as you hoped!

I love how you continue to evolve as an artist. This vase is stunning! The feathering makes the piece incredibly expensive looking and utterly unique . Love, LOVE this vase!!
I have no doubt your sale pieces will do brilliantly. I'm so excited for you. ☺️

I never knew Cherry could be darkened like Oak so that's on the menu now. I love the way Cherry reacts to the solution. That is a lovely piece, great job Mike.
    Best Wishes, Brendan.
