Released in 2001, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is one of four games to receive a 10 out of 10 score on Gamespot. The game continues the tradition of pulling skateboarding tricks for points, and adds a new trick, the revert. Source: speeddemosarchive.com/TonyHawk...
At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

People who bash the runners for "making excuses" are complete morons... and have obviously never taken equipment of ANY kind to an event hoping, PRAYING it will just work and not have any issues. There are so many potential problems that can occur when you have such a tiny amount of time to setup your gear; especially when you are far from a 'professional'. These guys are plenty knowledgeable I'm sure; but I mean like 'roadie' professional when it comes to setting up computers, networks, audio equipment, video equipment; all this shit can easily introduce numerous flaws that the performer is not expecting. It's especially shitty when you are so comfortable with your setup at home and it's the only thing you ever use to run, so the tiniest bit of change can be enough to throw off an entire run.
I have to say, I applaud him for being as chill about it as he is. I'd certainly be more visibly pissed off. Mostly because that kind of stuff happens to me every single time I setup anything for a live gig of any kind. SOMETHING goes wrong; which basically is the motto of anybody who works live gigs... It's not IF something will go wrong, it's WHEN and how badly it will go wrong. Of course dealing with something like this I'd have that voice in the back of my mind reminding me that fuckwads like you guys on here are there who don't understand these things and don't care to actually educate yourselves or actually give anybody the benefit of the doubt at any given time. The tiniest of fuckups are simply unacceptable apparently; according to all these 'perfect' people on UA-cam comment sections... >_>
I remember what Witwix said about his Boshy run...
He said that he had to try lots of PCs to find one that was actually able to run the game! XD
But yeah, lots of stuff can and probably is going wrong on every GDQ, people are just expecting a perfect show and I guess they have never dealt with serious issues regarding malfunctioning equipment, cause that can be such a big pain...
You really typed all of that lol stop being sensitive
Jimmies: ☑ Rustled ☐ Unrustled
7:31
bleh, that wasnt the worst ever, i mean, my controler was broke, but its under 8 min right?
i took 4 hours to beat this game -.-
Man that dude on the couch is trippin' hard..
I spent so long playing this game as a kid
Such a great game
cringe
Respect to this guy keeping his cool on stream and not just quitting with that faulty controller. This event is on time constraints and didn't have the time to fix it.
Instead he powered through it and still got it done in the allotted time slot.
You people act like he doesn't have the right to get mad if he practices speedrunning Tony Hawk for fucking hours on end, learns to get through the game as fast as possible for him, travels to GDQ, then has his controller fuck up on him and making him go over his estimated time.
Yeah, his attitude compared to other runners is less cheerful, but for a game like Tony Hawk, and a speedrun that lasts seven minutes, there's a lot of mistakes you can make if you take your focus off of the game to say something about a certain part of the game.
I'd be pissed off too, because he ended up having a 7 minute run, whenever, as made evident by other videos of his run, he can run it in 4 minutes.
Wish the dude had brought himself a backup controller!
It's been a long time since I've blamed being garbage at a game on a controller.
loved the pro bails at the end of every tony hawk game :)
that was a bad run, im sure he can do better
These runs are always fun to watch. I remember cheesing these games as a kid by using nothing but manuals to form combos.
The show must go on.
This iss literally the ONLY time ive seen someone miss their mark, feel bad for you
I come back to this video just to make me feel better when I'm having a bad day.
Chrno here.
Yes, the controller WAS faulty, I was sitting right there and the wire was adding inputs for some reason (he was using a PS3 controller). He will be doing another run of this at A/SGDQ so look out ;).
Just from seeing his inputs at the pause menu is enough to believe the controller was faulty since he ended up on the edit trick screen a few times. While you can argue that missing an objective at Suburbia cost a lot of time, he spent more time having to restart levels and having to clear score objectives separately due to wiping.
Having seen George's other runs of this game, this is physically painful. Capable of so much more.
I used to blame controller back when I was 10.
Kinda glad I missed this part live.
I honestly think it wasn't the controllers fault xD
I do
masteroftheblaster1 You're a SPED if you truly believe it was the controller.
KG66610
I can just tell by the way he is wrecking in the game. but then again, tony hawk games are notorious for eating inputs/doing the trick seconds after you input it.
I do, he literally has world record under 4 minutes
get this guy a fucking keyboard. that never fails!!!
jimday666 I've never understood why some people praise the mouse/keyboard so much. I game primarily on PC and once the 360 controller came out and basically every PC game supports it out of the box I said goodbye to the keyboard/mouse. I will admit for games like FPS it is easier to aim with the mouse, but for the majority of games I'll take the controller.
jimday666 I primarily play on PC. I can admit you'd have to be a maniac to play THPS with a keyboard.
Classic80sStuff yup, I play most of the games with a gamepad too, except for fps and online competetive games.
gave this guy a bum controller to play on...and or bad vid sync/laggage
they bring their own controller
He has the world record of just under 4 minutes, 'georgetheplushie' is his youtube name, check it out
Dyl N Not all goals so it doesn't count.
eagleclaww there are different type of runs so it can count
donations= 0
Where are these speedruns recorded at i would love to watch one live.
Run starts at 3:54
DAMN I've seen your actual speed ITS FREAKING AWESOME
I used to skateboard when I was younger. This game almost has the same feel of being on a board again ,except for the occasional broken bones.
He went thru those menus faster than I can blink
because he was getting angry it was making him perform worse. Being angry in games will always mess you up
I had my doubts about his controller having problems, but i started thinking and i remember i once had an experience like this while playing on my ps2, i was trying to play burnout, normally im pretty decent at it, but for some reason i couldnt drift properly, and after testing it out i discovered that none of my face buttons were working well, sometime they would work other times no matter how much i would press them they just didnt register the command, sometime i woul press them and they would work, but after a while they would register as if i had let go while i was still pressing them, i was so frustrated because dominator is one of my favorite ps2 game and i just coulnt enjoy it like that, if something like that can happen to a dualshock 2 from one day to another im guessing it can happen to almost any controller, i feel sorry for the guy, i remember i was soooo mad and i was in my room playing by myself, i can only imagine how he must have felt having that kind of problems live while on a charity event.
The guy obviously knows the game well, if he says the controller was acting up then it probably was.
GNARLY
Really weak run.
Madly it was he who played on the debacle
Still done it quicker than half of you sooks could.
as a controller blamer myself I can assure you nothing was wrong with that controller
It happens. Just have to keep trying
love it
This guy is god-awful bad
He's actually amazing at these games. He just happen to have a bad day!
go watch his World Record run then.... it has something like 1.3 million views and it's absolutely fucking godtier, it's the controllers fault.
He has multiple world records and is the person who has optimized multiple thps runs.
thps is easy to master. this is nothing special compared to other speedruns. 100% goals would be more challanging or thps 1-4 in a row. next speedrun: thps 5 (with all the bugs and glitches^^)
Something was definitely up with the controller based on what I've seen in his other runs.
beat the game so damn fast you might as well not even buy it. GG!
That wasn't too bad
What system was he playing it on, anyway?
I would say it was the controller. This guy is obviously a pretty good Tony Hawk runner who would have practiced a lot before coming in. When he is even having issues pausing and selecting the proper option over and over, it's not him, it's some button messed up on the controller
I think i know watch the thug2 he pressed a so many times
I usually complain about my controller too when I'm angry lmao
All this shit about his controller being fucked sounds like bullshit to me. I think he just messed up a lot.
I don't even mind that the run was bad but the attitude of the runner was painful to watch. Please do not invite this guy back next time. He brings down the whole mood and blames everything on his controller. I would have much preferred watching him laugh at his mistakes and have fun.
I paused at 4:57 and everyone looks like they're contemplating suicide
Only 240p available?
so many dislikes when it wasn't the guy's fault for the bad run (for the most part anyways) ah well better luck next time :D
How wasn't even his fault? I'm not saying he's bad speedrunner, but this clearly a really bad run. Clearly he could've done better or done some practice.
The other tony hawk game speedrunners agreed that the controller was also at fault. I'm not saying he didn't mess up at all dont get me wrong, but the controller was inputting things that he wasn't manually imputing resulting in moves that he didnt input and causing a generally bad run.
Kind of like for no reason the game does a trick right before you land causing you to screw up. :o
F2FRONT500 you clearly watched the video with mute on, or had something else playing in the background, because his controller was broken, and there was NOTHING he could do about it. pay attention to the video before making dumb remarks
Carlos Valdez 'extremely' horrible... Nobody here is saying it wasn't a bad run, and i'm pretty sure the runner himself would agree with the fact that it was obviously a bad run. What we're trying to say is that it wasn't just his fault for the bad run. Never tried to speedrun, or even just play a tonyhawk game, on a shit controller have you? lol shit can go so bad. :)
Okay, fair enough.
The moment you realize Suburbia is Nuke Town O_O
The chokes BibleThump
reading the comments before watching this video is funny xD
Is that AdamAK next to the kid in red?
yep
Is "Help the Thin Man" a Slenderman reference? I played this game as a kid but I only recently learned about Slendy and when I watched this run it made me think.
No, this is older than Slenderman, THPS3 came out in 2001, Slenderman in 2009.
God like
Let's donate money for new controllers and batteries!
bad day guy, sorry for you =/
less bong more practice :D
Estimate- 7 mins. Actual- 7.5 mins. Control not working- 100% of the time.
choked
Nerves I think good run but could be better.
MOAR PRACTICE !!
xD
His controller was dying, it wasn't accepting all of his inputs, it's likely what caused half his problems.
Uh if you watch his other speedruns it's flawless. Really it's all muscle memory at this point, the worst that I've seen him do is accidentally hit the wrong things in the menu when transitioning either to restart or end run. I think he said his controller wasn't working, and in THPS that's bad.... really bad.
But what do you expect with PlayStation controllers?
DocHollowDay
It also may have been old or a third party controller (they're playing on PC, not PS2) and playstation controllers can have connection issues to PC. I've had no issues with playstation controllers on playstations and I've had playstations since Day one for the PS1.
lunavixen015 0:30 You can see the controller. It's a PS2, they probably have an adapter or a MadCatz USB connector.
DocHollowDay
Most likely an adaptor, because I have one for my PC, they're less expensive
Even if it was the equipment, this is a live charity event, he needs to have more self control, the only controller issue here is his emotionally one.
I'm not complaining about the way he plays, because I could never match that. For me it's incredible. BUT it's boring because he isn't funny at all, and that's something very important when showing off. There are other speedrunners not even trying to beat a record whatsoever, but they are really funny to watch.
this event isn't even about humour lol
it's a speedrunning event
about speedrunning and raising money for charity
I agree, but attracting people is something that you may accomplish easily when you have showing talent, not only gaming talent. That's absolutely like that. I personally enjoy a lot more these videos when they are funny to watch. In fact, this is a show off. They already have their channels and websites were they post the real speedrunning records. But this is the perfect chance to make any people not even related with speedrunning to watch and give away some money.
spoilers: this is the channel where they post the serious records
I love when people are sarcastic when someone says something they disagree with. I'm talking normally, just saying what I'm saying, nothing else. I'm not teasing or whatever. I'm saying that it's funnier for regular people not that interested on speedruns to have something slightly funnier to watch. The point of this streaming events is to catch up donations for a good cause, not showing off. If you can't see that, I'm sorry but you are wrong, just like that. It's not an opinion; it's a matter of watching it. I love when players explain how they do what they do, the glitches they use and the origin of each "trick" to save time. Total silence and a camera recording the man... well, that's boring and it's something they should keep for their personal channels. But here it's about making money for charity and that requires a little bit more than just a for-the-record quest.
kamealex do you really love it when people talk sarcastically or are you being sarcastic?
7:31 is still extremly good
How many people have actually had a controller go bad? I recently replace an Xbox 360 controller that I had been using on the PC for 8-9 years. It was still working time just figured it was time to replace it. My original Genesis controller that is like 25 years old works fine. In all my years of gaming I've never had a controller go bad. And in this run if the controller wasn't working at all then how come some of the time he was doing the tricks fine? Only when he messed up did he blame the controller. I'm not saying controllers can't go bad, but in this case I don't think that was the problem.
Classic80sStuff My controllers frequently fuck up, both of them. I don't even want to know what it's like having to set up your own equipment on a completely different PC
Eulenspieler What do you mean set up your equipment on a different PC? For a controller all there is too it is plugging in the USB connector.
Classic80sStuff Even when just plugging in stuff things can go bad really easily
Classic80sStuff My triggers work on and off, despite not having it long. Buttons stick or don't respond, just dumb shit like that. it happens.
Think about how fast, how often and how many times hes pressing those buttons.
my little brother complains about his controller too.
tsk tsk blaming the controller for mistakes that you made. if it was the controller then its on you for not testing and replacing it stay salty
Blood in a skateboard game? That's slightly odd...was this PG?
never seen so many mistakes
I don't know, I normally love speed-runs, but, this one was pretty sub-par. Even though I know I couldn't beat the game THAT fast, I know for a fact, as someone who's played nearly every THPS game, most of the mistakes he made were avoidable. Controller issues are very rarely something you can blame - or the pressure of being at a marathon; he wasn't relaxed enough, or seemed to be enjoying himself. You have to relax, open up, and take pride in the game you're playing, and be honest about your mistakes in a run. I'm not going to dislike the video, or say I could have done better, but, even the audience seemed to be on edge with his mistakes... calling "serious time" at the very start of the run was also a bit rude, too.
Dang, to be good at a game and then choke at AGDQ must feel terrible.
5:14 bail on grind
So bad. Get's lost after the airport.
dem grinds tho
It wasn't the controller
Lol, all the people who came to watch this look very disappointed.
sad man
The character falls all the time, that's why THPS 2 is the best.
mashing isn't a legitimate strategy. It's easy to complain about the controller when your spazzing on t.
I played the unholy shit out of this game when it came out.
It should have been all the goals to finish
I have seen in the past replace controllers that was faulty. So people shouldn't use the," oh they are on a tight schedule" when ADGQ is known to always be behind schedule.
The run time was too short to warrant replacing the controller mid run. Replacing and calibrating the controller would have taken too long considering they were playing on PC, most controller replacements have happened where a simple swapover was possible (i.e. mega drive, N64 etc.)
ah well that changes things. I don't blame the guy though. His controller just carp out.
MasterSaruwatari
He still holds the WR for this game (3:55)
oh yeah I heard and seen his other runs. He is a goon.
lunavixen015
Good for him, he still sucks.
at 2:18 he typed it in
Poor guy
6:34 and 6:35. That cough with headphones, not a good combination
9:27 I would of just gave up XD
My first game that i completed, i was 6-8 i don't know XD ( Sry for my english, I am from Germany)
There's no passion in speed running
GetRekt%
cracked under the pressure ....not a controller issue bro u just failed on the stage under the spotlight
10:09 Auch
hate when someone has a bad run and they blame the controller......weak mate
You guys shut up, dont blame him..so can u all play what his doing? i think no!!
WHat kind of cheat he typed in at begin ? looool
Too many damn fails.
Calm down dude, overdid it too hard
