Been doing this today, so to anyone that's having trouble an their clothes becomes a garbled mess: make you character larger, like 5x times larger, that fixed any problems for me. As a guide, my character now measures at 2.5 meters on the Z axis. good luck!
taking big an tall to a new level
This helped me too, also turned Max Sewing Force up to 20.
Thank youu
you have been extremely clear and linear explaining this, THANKS
AWESOME TUTORIAL, very well explained and straight to the point
Hey, thank you for this video! Just the thing I needed, well spoken, explained and to the point. I appreciate it!
Wonderful tuto thank you!!! It helps a lot 🙏🏽👍🏽
Works like a charm. Great tutorial
this was incredibly helpful n straightforward ty!!!
Thank you for the awesome tutorial! Also I laughed at the end when you showed us a shirt you made previously and I laughed because it was literally what you showed us how to make lol
worked perfectly zero issues 10/10
cool tutorial, subbed. Gotta watch again once I got a proper sleep.
That was really helpful. Thanks
Love your videos!! Thank you!!!
This is the best video on sewing “vanilla” in blender yet!!!!! Great job bro!!! You rock !!!
What other type of sewing is there in blender besides "vanilla"?
@@williamrachello3699 i meant, with no add on’s!!! 😂 there are other videos that require a add on’s. This video have me quick results and was easy to follow
@@vincentavila8807 ah ok makes sense. What are some helpful add-ons that you've seen for sewing?
@@williamrachello3699 marvelous designer, simply cloth, seam to sewing, etc…
@@vincentavila8807 awesome thanks!
Great tutorial, Thanks!
I tried to recreate this watching your video….. let’s just say that I need LOTS of practice……
and so do I.... it is bad
Yeah, he moves REALLY fast and uses a lot of hotkeys/shortcuts. It's not a bad tutorial, but you can tell he's more well versed in this program than the viewer who would be watching it. We newbies will get there, though.
So what is it that’s hard to follow? He literally mentions every key he uses
@Part-Time Gamer what is this? Commenters on a tutorial not just blindly praising the video? blasphemy!
@Part-Time Gamer I just wanna reassure you as someone whose been practicing seriously for the last couple of months .. it will get easier!
man this is life savior
It helped me a lot, Greetings from Chile
Thank you ❤
if the shirt doesnt fall correctly, just increase the vertex mass in physical properties of the shirts cloth modifier
TYSMM
you need to add a collision onto the model too don't forget that
I increased the vertex mass the shirt is shriving up and falling away from the model.
nor is it sewing together
@@suerinaa bending model --- linear
Thank you
Nice tut ❤
Every time I attempt this, the cloth mesh becomes a garbled mess that jitters and falls apart...
Then you are doing something wrong, its simple as that.
@@SMGJohn well obviously his doing something wrong, clearly his seeking help on rectifying the problem
@@greenlightstudio5302
Cannot really help him considering its been 4 months since he first made that comment and when I replied, and I have no idea what he is doing and his work process is, if you follow everything in this video it will turn out exact, maybe he did not position his body in a T-pose, its a common mistake for beginners.
I had the same problem, have you tried turning off gravity?
recalculate outside
This video is so nice but I haven't try it yet so I will try it out later. Btw I have a question regarding the cloth, will it became the separate one or the sewing one after the model being export?
wow so awesome😍😍😍
Hello. Thank you for the tutorial. Followed along. Do you know why it doesn't quite "sew" tithe vertices? Mine bring them close but when you go close enough, you discover they aren't touching. Though the cloth sim is working.
Nice video, I still haven't tried it. I was wondering, is it possible to make more realistic sleeves? Sewn only underneath, as it is normally done.
Fairly certain you would do this with something like a cylinder and sew an open portion of it back together. I haven't tried it in blender, but that is how I've done it in Marvelous Designer.
any tips to reduce clipping between the cloth and body?
First, I would like to say thank you for this awesome tutorial. Second, I'm slightly new to blender at the beginner and intermediate level. I want to note few things: at the bottom left screen, it is slightly diffcult to take notes of any key that you have pressed on the video. This tutorial seems to be slightly fast, and it is difficult to follow. You speak fast for a few people to follow. Especially, for people whose English is their second language. I wish you mentioned more about any more obstacles that a user would face during the editing and simulation process. Any common mistake that a user would make during the building, editing, etc. I want to thank you again for this video.
How can I render the cloth soft texture from frame 1?
Awesome video!! Quick question how can I make the cloth follow my character. My collision is ag the very end and still stays still
Parent it?
This is one of those times if I had someone to talk me through it I would do much better. I was stumped as soon as the video started when I noticed that your version of blender is different from mine. Mine being 3.6. Right from the start I couldn't get my gridlines or the plane to be the same size as yours. 2:22 after mirroring the plane, it won't split into 2 when I hit G and then mouse to the right.
Hey quick question! Do you know if this will transition into Unity for VR avatars or for characters in games? Awesome videos! thank you
you can apply the cloth from the modifier screen after ur happy with the end result
love this. I run linux which prevents me from using CLO 3D, but now I'm thinking "who cares?" What can CLO do that Blender can't?
Hi I followed this tutorial step by step and am pretty happy with the outcome.
I have one problem though: the sleeves wont completely fall down onto the arm, the ends of the sleeves where the shirt is sewn together always stays up like a tent. I have already played around with all the options in the cloth pane. anyone got an idea what this could be?
Bro trust me this guy hes not gonna help you he just wasting our time
The only helpful video
does anyone know how to elongate fabric? I have a hoodie in blender but i need to make the sleeves longer, sos
hey i was wondering how you'd add like pngs on to it, because of the mirror modifier whenever i try to put something on it doubles on the front and on the back. Im using Diffuse BSDF and image texture for the colour, when in textures
I just had the same issue. If you apply the mirror, you can add the image and it wont be duplicated on both sides. i just save a template for the mirrored shirt and then when im ready to make a sure with a design, i duplicate said template, apply the mirror, and then add the custom textures
“Scale him up to a more realistic scale” *proceeds to create 18 foot tall man* that part made me laugh
I have followed this and so many other tutorials. I still cannot find how to make my seams as nice. It confounds and befuddles.
how would i use this if i was intending to make a model for 3D printing?
How to do it the extra part...it keeps not attace to the body and fall apart
I’m attempting to edit a vroid model that I accidentally made too revealing in the clothes 😢and almost got banned from twitch because of it!! So I want to learn as much as I can to make clothes for my avatar!
cant seem to get it working right on higher poly models
I’ve question where i can get that basic character shape?
Hello, still beginner in Blender, where do you have the 3d human model ?
Do you have a video on all the hotkeys you are using? Im going to look for it.
If you follow Blender Guru's doughnut tutorial, you'll learn the main ones easily. If I recall correctly, for Blender 2.8, he even made a PDF with all the hotkeys.
Hmm. This feels so silky smooth... I don't think medieval people had such luxurious cloth.
Starts at 1:32
The plane isn't extruding backwards for me is there something I'm missing here? it only goes up and down and side to side it won't go forward or backwards.
Anyone know why my shirt crinkles threw my character after i enable sowing and hit spacebar?
where i get this 3d character of human?
Hi!
Thanks a lot for the tutorial.
But does anyone can explain why it's so necessary to have t-shirt mesh consist of almost even squares?
Hi, I'm *far* from being an expert but from what I understand it becomes relevant when applying textures or color patterns, especially when painting on the surface. I can't quite explain it but at that stage it becomes important so it makes sense to take it into consideration very early on. The further you get into the project the harder it becomes to readjust it without messing with a lot of other factors you've already put work into.
@@BadNessie sounds quite reasonable! Thanks
The simulation is based on the topology. So if the squares are wonky your cloth simulation will be as well.
Can I download a cloth from online and just slap on a cloth modifier
Couldn’t we do the same using actual drawn sewing patterns made in vector graphics (.SVG files)?
Why does the shirt sag even after applying stitch modifier?
how to fix connection line problem. (hard edges)
hey im new here, just wondering how do i get the figure (doll)
yeah when i press the spacebar it refuses to turn it into cloth so
I had the problem that when I hit spacebar/started the simulation, absolutely nothing would work.
It was becuase my character modell was way way too big, absolutely gargantuan, a realy big boi.
So I scaled it down and it worked.
Maybe this helps someone
Was looking for this comment , did you scale the model only?
hey i have a question, can we export this as a package file?
I can't get this to work. The cloth wont fall, no matter what I do. Do I have some switch turned off or something?
I have a question that has me going insane - Why is the cloth sim not smooth, it's super jittery and I can't find anyway of making it right.
Does anyway know of a way to make it flow instead of jitter around?
Roughness of the collision objects that your cloth collides with. Try adjusting that, it sounds like it needs to be less rough. Worth a try
@@yayaskyrim493 Thanks, I'll give that a shot!
i know this comment is old as hell but just in case anyone else was having the same problem (i was too lol) all i had to do was increase the vortex mass! under physics properties > cloth > physical properties. honestly just messing w all those settings can usually get you somewhere if you're stuck lol
When I put in the cloth modifier it stays still and doesn’t fall. Then the sewing doesn’t do anything. What did I do wrong?
Which blender version it is?
at 8:30 i did the sewing option and it did shrink but it didnt stop at the character figure it kept shrinking and falling i hope you tell me why
you did go a tad bit fast, I pressed space and it went haywire
for some unknown reason my t shirt keeps on moving like wind is blowing it hard it doesn't attach like that at all :(
Bro, how do I leave the shape of the clothes without having to put the animation? I want to leave it with the shape
apply the cloth at the modifier tab
I added the mirror modifier but it doesn't make a another one, I moved with G but there's only one.
The mirror modifier works along the local axis of your mesh. Be sure to have the good one enabled. Also, check your origin point.
is it working on 3.0?
can i save it as ydd?
im trying to make clothes once a year but no matter what bledner version I use its always wrong for me. Close that looks like plastic, its stiff, lots of bugs at sew areas, etc etc
marvelous designer works 1 to 1 as in tutorials IDK whats wrong with blender
How would one go about making an open jacket? if it's mirrored i cannot edit the back without the front closing :I
Apply the mirror once satisfied with the cloth sim appearance. Then in edit mode split (Rip) the center edge down the middle.
The long dress im trying to make, the straps over the shoulders keep falling through the shoulders when I simulate.. Pls help
Turn on collision for the character mesh?
It just never seems to sow properly for me.
Mine doesn't work it just crumples into a ball and falls
for some reason, the mirror modifier is not recognising planes as mirrorable objects for me, is there a way to fix this?
I had the same issue. Try going into edit mode and then adding the mirror. (Make sure you have the plane selected) That’s what worked for me.
this no longer works something has changed can u make an updated one?
Hi, how come all the transformations evolve around the origin (e.g. at 2:03 ) or the selected object, edge (e.g. 2:44) , face, etc. instead of the 3D cursor? Whenever I get to those steps, the object transforms around the 3D cursor. I'm a complete beginner, I hope someone can help.
Is this question still on?
Omg I couldn't 😓
how do you fix the gap between the sewing?
Your shirt is not big enough for the character or the sewing force is too low
can't get past 3 minutes into the tutorial, because after i extrude the face, when i try to rotate it, the entire mesh wants to rotate as well and there seems to be no info on the web about how to stop that without adding hooks or something that you are obviously not doing
It does not work, results are fuzzy. I miss information details. Result depons on what ? Polygon count, sewings number, position ? I get stretching issues every time
it doesn't work for me when I enable sewing. In general, when I add a cloth sim to the shirt it doesn't fall or move at all, just stays in place
I checked if I was still in edit mode and made sure everything was correct, but it just doesn't work or snap together
Same
It worked for me when I played the simulation.
its now sewing together can someone help me
When i added the mirror modifier the object didn't duplicate.
make sure your curser on blender is in the very middle and you have to be in edit mode so you move the mesh not the object, also to make it touch when it goes back in you have to hit the little box that says clipper after you have moved the boxes apart.
I wish I could do this to make lots of clothes and other things in Zepeto and earn money in real life.
Gonna add this comment here too

Hi I'm having a problem where the seams are not pulled together and leave a gap between the front and back. I have tried increasing the amount of loop cuts so there are more edges but that doesn't make a difference. I also tried adjusting the sewing force but again that doesn't make it any better. I have tried working through multiple tutorials and used multiple character models in case something about the model I was using was causing the issue. No matter what I try there is a large gap along the seams. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
You might want to lower the distance under self-collision.
Also, you can apply the cloth modifier and merge the vertices in edit mode to fill the gaps. Be sure to be happy with the general shape before doing that.
What a chatter box
Whenever I sew it together some of the stitches are still there, and it doesn't pull together entirely, is there any way to fix this?
the same
Just extend the mesh outward where the stitches are not completely pulled and inward where the cloth is bulged out.
Basically adjust the mesh until it fits the model perfectly, or maybe you want a loose fit, so extend or extrude and where you still see the stitches, it just need more mesh unti you get a proper seam.
I found that enlarge both model can make the stitches smaller, under Physics -> Cloth -> Self-collision -> set Distance to 0.001m. Then enlarge your model to 5m tall or 10m tall should solve the problem.
@@3kelvinhong A combination of both (extending the mesh and setting the self-collision to .001) worked for me. Thanks!
Vest?
How the hell do you even get the model into Blender? Im trying to pull an FBX from a Unity package via export and import and it just turns into a horrific spaghetti monster.
8:14 if I hit the space bar there, my plane does not collide/collapse down, and it does not form itself into cloth either. what step did I miss??
Did you set 'cloth' modifier for the t-shirt? You also need to set 'collision' modifier for the mannequin.
@@3kelvinhong yes, I did all those steps.. problem might be an interference with the arms. Will figure that out after retopologizing!
@@loewi9223 same problem.. any solution yet?
@@loewi9223 I just found out it seems to make a difference HOW you apply the modifier. I couldn't make it work neither. It only worked when I clicked on the cloth button directly in the physics section. When I used "add modifier" and selected the same there it wouldn't make it work for reasons unknown to me. Hope this makes it work for you, too!
@@denniz8423 I just sent a reply in this comment thread, *maybe* it's helpful.
how did you do that at 2:42?
Press E to start extruding the vertices, then drag the mouse up, and left click when you're happy with the positioning.
You should show your keystrokes for those new to Blender.
Bottom left of the screen.
@@PIXXO3D Oh thanks. The text blendered in. 😄
"Get it to realistic scale." Proceeds to make a 7 meter giant.
I follow every step but I can't understand why it's not doing the same...
me too
@@barackyunus901 I finally succeeded simply by changing the collision parameters in the garment's "clothe" modifier and in the mannequin's "collision". I decreased the distance to 0.02 and slightly increased the "skinwrap".
for me the shirt is not falling someone now how to fix?
edit: when i set Bendig model to linear then it kinda work
thx for info. it worked for me too
thx! 😄
How would you do this for an animal?
For example, making a shirt for a dog walking on all fours
Same process, you can make clothes in any shape as long as the stitching is correct and the plane sizes are correct
@@hogandromgool2062 I was kind of hoping for a more detailed answer.
@@aaarghzombies640 I don't understand how it needs to be more detailed. It's the same process as making clothes for animals or humans in real life. you make a shape you want, connect the edges and then enable sewing.
@@hogandromgool2062 You can't put a cat in a t pose. I was wondering if there were an tips or tricks For creatures with
4 legs
@@aaarghzombies640 T pose is really not necessary at all, it just gives you room to work around the limbs.
The reason people do things in T pose is specifically to make it easier, it is not a part of the process. Easiest way around this is to scale your model up bigger than you want in your scene so that the camera is smoother to operate around the 3d cursor.
when working on smaller models the camera can be a bit of a pain (not allowing close zooming - when you zoom in the camera moves far to much per scroll)
I think a lot of Blender artists confuse people by making it assumed that T-Pose is needed for the cloth sim to work. You can do it in any pose you would like.
5:39 doesn't work. HELP!!!
