Thank you for this video Adrian, this is really helpful. I'm wondering what DistroKid plan will you recommend to start monetizing music as an independent artist: Musician or Musician Plus?
The $20 plan is just fine. You only need the plus if you plan on having multiple artist on your songs. But if it's just you then standard is fine

Guys not asking for legal advice but in your personal opinions, if it were you, would you still create a legal LLC name for tax purposes and register the domain of the label assuming it's available? Thanks very much for any response to this.
I have been running my label for a year now and still have not registered it. Only really need to register if you want to take advantage of the tax write-offs or if you have money coming in from it. Not legal advice of course.

So you have two artist or bands, how the splits works in this this case assuming that there are two different people, should them pay for the minimum plan to attach there PayPal account or you can register two emails?

Don't understand the question.
The minimum plan on DistroKid should be sufficient to have them receive revenue that you have allocated to them; there is no way around it, they must set up a DistroKid account, only paypal + email (without DistroKid) won't do. They will receive a 50% discount on their plan for the first year (should they not have a DistroKid account already).
What should I do about opening my own distrokid after my name was already up loading songs with my friends record label . But now I open my own distrokid how can I claim my own Apple ID an Spotify ID. An since it’s my first song uploading how should I go about it now that I want to upload independently. With the name an when asking is my music on Spotify an Apple Music. An since some music has been uploaded my them with my name I check yes. An it ask me to put those ID or links. What should I do

get the ISRC codes from your friends distrokid and then use it on your own. also, hit up distrokid support for any other questions regarding this. thats what they are their for

distrokid has limitations, if you are bigger than 1 or 2 artists, i recommend using a different label provider. i was recommended label worx

Usually tax is handled on your own. Distrokid I believe does t withhold taxes, just make sure you put aside 30% to be safe (or whatever the tax is in your location).

You need a label plan. Not an artist plan. Check their plan options on their website

@@AdrianBarrin so like lets say I upgrade to the label plan. Then me and my friends all want to work under that label but their spotify profiles are already linked to their distrokid accounts. Is there a way my label can absorb their already pre-existing pages?
You'd have to email Distrokid and ask them to transfer the songs to your profile. Most likely you just give them your ISRC number

I don't see why not
If you're an independent artist, and you want to have the label name customised just because the DK name looks tacky. Do you have to register the label??? Even if it's just your songs I'm sure it's not right to "pretend" to run a record label. Tell me if I need to register a company to start the label.
You'll need to use a distributor that's not DK. Each distributor has their own percentage share on royalty or fee, so you'll need to find the one that's best for you.
I personally left DK for that exact reason.

Distrokid is highly recommended, but as you said it has that one flaw which is important for me. If it wasn't for that I'd still use them.

@@AdrianBarrin can I distribute with both DK and CDbaby. As long as I'm not sharing to the same stores. So if I only enabled CDbaby for publishing to retail then I'd be able to use both distributors? BTW tysm for responding after 2 years 😂
Yes, don't see why not. In distrokid you can select where you want to publish. So deselect the ones you will do with CDbaby
