Metroid: Zero Mission is a retelling of Metroid with new plot twists and updated gameplay.
This run aims to complete the game as quickly as possible while collecting as few items as possible. This changes the gameplay, requiring more careful ammo management and new solutions to complete certain areas without powerups. Reading the author's comments is recommended.
The in-game clear time is 0:23:48. The item collection rate is 9%.

I personally prefer 100% but it's always fun to occasionally see the BARE MINIMUM required to win lol
I agree with this, I watch a lot of 100% playthroughs and TASes, so this is a nice change of pace.
Same here. I actually like all categories but 100% is loved more lol. Low% is also fun to watch
For this game low-% is a thing because you unlock gallery images this way.

The way missile drops are integrated into the ridley fight answers why this has so many re-records.

A shame the category doesn't use the game's cutoff point, 15%. I'd love to see how this run looks with Speed Booster, a couple Super Missile tanks, maybe Wave Beam & Long Beam if they're not _too_ out of the way to be worth it.

27:53 It might as well be called that. The suit is so tight on her it literally looks like she is wearing nothing at all. The way Zero Mission was advertised in Japan with an actual model wearing a Zero Suit and doing a butt shot in the commercial really shows what they were focusing on with this game.
Wait, I thought Power Grip could be skipped by bomb jumping. Or am I wrong on that?
Edit: I must have been thinking of a rom hack, as there is an inexplicable ball blocking the path in norfair.
You can skip it, yes. It's just that there's an obstacle that only despawns after you get it, and can't be snuck around in any way (to my knowledge), leaving the skip only really useful for grabbing a few items out of order. It's pretty useful for non-speedrun sequence breaking, though.

Is Power Grip required for finishing the game? Since this is a TAS (thus allowing for some very precise bomb jumping) I was wondering if Power Grip could be skipped..

Its always this game getting the new and updated times for speedruns and not the original NES version, I wonder if there's a larger TAS community for this version, or if exploits are just being found more frequently.
This TAS is almost 10 years old
Maybe I missed something, is there a reason why it picks up the Power Grip? I didn't see anything some crazy bomb jank couldn't also do, but it goes by pretty quick
If you head right from the first elevator in Norfair without the Power Grip, you will eventually come across a Tangle Vine Fruit at the end of the long hallway, preventing progress to the rest of Norfair. The only way to get rid of it is to get the Power Grip.
Wait, so why pick up the unknown items? I checked the author's notes but I didn't find anything
EDIT: So they're unlocked at the end... But why are they necessary?
You have to get them to break the rune blocks and proceed into the game
