Van Gogh had written in 1885, "The real painter, does not paint things as they are, after a dry and learned analyse. They paint them as they themselves feel them to be. My great wish is to learn to change and re-make reality. I want my painting s to be inaccurate and anomalous in such a way that they become lies, if you like, but lies that are more truthful than literal truth." You are in good company Sandi!
Sandi you are a real trailblazer. You are a founding member of the non-travescist, non-off-putting school of art. Your work will be admired through the ages by your viewers so keep it up.
Aww Sandy! I am an abstract artist too and I would say don't look for approval from your spouse, family, friends as everyone has their preferences and your value in your art and yourself shouldn't be affected either positively or negatively by others opinions. Georgia O Keefe said something like, "before my paintings go to exhibition I analyse each one and settle whether or not I like each one, not or indifferent and so when they go out into the world ,the flattery and criticism go down the same drain and I am quite free.' As long as you are settled on the results, all is fine. I don't even ask anymore as most of the time my fella doesn't know what I'm trying to do with each painting and thats not his fault so I don't put any expectation on him. He gets me, I appreciate him for that .
I’m only 15 mins in but have to pause the video to say that I 1st found and followed you based on your realistic work but I’m loving each new twist, each new exploration. It actually feels like your newer work makes my heart beat faster because it is so joyful. I simply can’t wait to see what you do next.
Constructive criticism is something I always appreciate, how can I grow otherwise. I'm not trained like you Sandi, so I've never been taught the fundamentals. One thing I do know from my 40 years of making art, is that you cannot cater to everyone's tastes, much like fashion or food etc. I'm not appreciative of overly loose painting, but do enjoy your enthusiasm and passion. So long as you are having fun, that's OK.
About family members giving feedback, I’m older than you by 15 years and i can tell you it does get easier. Everyone has their own taste and that’s a good thing, and I’m actually kind of fascinated by how differently people can view a work of mine. At this point in my art career it’s all good and I’m firm enough in my own likes and dislikes in my work to just keep moving forward. I can see you doing that too. Besides, it’s obvious that Grady adores you and approves of your art as a whole, so his reaction to an individual piece isn’t that important in the grand scheme of things. After all, we as artists have our own favorites among our works and some we like less, why wouldn’t others feel the same? Keep up the good work! Love your videos!
Thanks for talking about the whole "criticism from loved ones" topic. I'm a lot like you in that I crave and would LOVE to have my husband's and my family's approval and support on all the things I make, but of course I'd only want it if they genuinely loved what I make. What's funny is this: I make art, but my main source of income comes from my work in designing funny greeting cards and stickers and mugs, etc. My husband has never been tickled by any funny card I've made. Never looks at a drawing or a painting and says "wow, that's amazing!" Nope. He's always "I don't get it" to my jokes and "Yeah, it's nice I guess" to all my "serious" artwork. He ain't impressed. Thank God I don't let him have the final say on what I think works or I wouldn't have a career. Maybe our partners just don't have good taste! 😜
Gosh, I can absolutely related to you. I am glad you don’t let your husband stopped you. I am going to embrace it 100%. Thanks for sharing your story. Knowing that I am not alone.
@@SODEKA987 Yes, definitely don't let anyone crush you with their opinion. Someone else somewhere else when it really matters will support you. Seriously, my guy is a good guy but has no sense of what's in style or what's funny most of the time! So I had to learn to just go with my gut. His is all wrong! ;p
Yes and yes I totally needed to hear this. Sometimes I get a little pang when I can tell my husband isn't in love with a piece. But I have to keep telling myself I am not doing this for him or really anyone else. It is a conversation or dance between me and God. Sometimes it produces something others will like and if not that is ok.
I love how you describe a sketch as getting the recipe together but the painting itself being the cake :) Thank you for sharing your artist life as always! ❤️
I've got a bunch of artists friends and I don't always love their work emotionally, but I can appreciate it intellectually. You can see the path they're on, what they're trying to do and be supportive of that. What would not be ok would be to be unsupportive on someone else's creativity. I also feel that relationships are more based onto personalities anyway. And as an artist you have to stay focused on your own path and interest. On another note, I love your vlogs (you're so sweet ^^) and you sort of push me into trying the whole vlog thing for my own art; I just forget half of the time to record anything else than process, so it will take some practice ^^'
I came back and watched this a second time just for the sounds of you swatching your pencil crayons, because that sound to me is one of the best sounds in the world.
I was the one who told you about the Green Gold color, but I think I failed to mention that it is transparent. It’s great on its own, and it mixes well with opaque colors, but it can be frustratingly transparent when layered over certain other colors. I didn’t realize that until I used it in an involved painting. It can be great for glazing, though. That antelope brown ink, though, is gorgeous! I’ve been getting into neutral green/yellow/browns colors. Also thanks for the recommendation of the Robert Simmons Egbert brushes - I bought two and have been loving that shape. As for the new abstract work - there can be value in critique, no question (if specific criticism is offered) sometimes even if the person offering it is not really knowledgable about art. But at the same time, some people are less sensitive to certain elements of artwork. For me, and for many people, much of the beauty in abstract work lies in little “moments” within the painting, as one of my old art professors would say. One color against another, a certain mark. Some people don’t notice those things or really feel it physically, while some people are very sensitive to these things and can feel them on a visceral level. It’s the same with many other forms of art. Music, for instance… I know almost nothing about it and often can’t hear what people are trying to point out to me. But give me a landscape like some of yours, and I see all the little “moments.”
...its not off putting...How fun! great topic! I find if someone close to me says they don't like what I've created, it really takes the wind out of my sails. Thanks for your take on this.
You’re not getting any hate mail baby!!!! You support me like no one else and I’ll beat up anyone who says anything bad about you! Thank you for letting me share this with people - it was very humbling and kind of you!!!! Love you with all my heart!
It was awesome to hear and see the admiration and love between you two! My husband (the accountant) likes to say “ that just isn’t my cup of tea” about my more abstract paintings. I’ve never seen him actually drink a cup of tea though…🤨Thanks for sharing the important reminder!
I always like when family says “that’s…interesting…” 👀 lol They just don’t see or really appreciate colors, shapes, blends, marks, materials, details, and art the way I do. They also probably don’t feel the same joy I do from art in general. People don’t really understand when you can draw/paint anything, you really just have passion for what feels good to create. It’s all good. I love that you put that aside and love what YOU do!
Everyone liking different styles and being different is what makes the world so great, it gives us so much MORE to look at and make us happy and inspire us. I am more into making realistic art then abstract but your videos still have a lot of value for me. I get a lot of information from seeing how you personally use mediums how the mediums work with each other what lush textures they have on top of paint. I am inspired by your looseness even though i want to paint realistic i want to add some looseness and some more individuality to my work. I am a hobby artist and i have no art studio so i get information from seeing how a professional artist works through their day and in their studio. Most of all i am so inspired by your passion for what you do, the happiness that glows from you is infectious and even though i have a lot of passion for art i find it really hard to show that on the outside. Your passion really helps me fight past my exhaustion and other obstacles which is a much bigger help then it sounds like. Don't worry about what others like, everyone that has an ounce of sense will be able to find value in the parts of your work which can inspire and bring them joy even if sometimes it may be a small part that is ok. Sometimes i love a picture just for some rough tiny pencil marks that are inspiring. Sometimes maybe what they do not like may may not even be something that is you/your style/your skills, like the subject or a colour they are not keen on or a certain part is overpowering. There are so many things people are fussy about, we are all so individual and that is the fun in life, that is the exact thing for me that makes art so fun and interesting. I like realistic but not photorealistic art needs some of the artists personality and uniqueness a bit of them in those lines and strokes :) You are keeping to what is real for you and because of that you are making great progress. What would be really sad is to just make flat pretty work for years and then realise you were doing something just to please others.
Your lastest sketches (the recipe) and the resulting "cake" remind me of Arthur Dove. Your work is different in many ways but still brought his work to mind. Keep up the growth and experimentation. Wishing you many happy painting days!
Yes, yes…sometimes it can hurt when people close to you don’t like your art. I experience this too, but have come to realize that my scientist hubby just sees and interprets art much more literally than does my wild and sometimes wacky artist brain. Now I’m in my late 50’s and I can honestly say that I care more about my expression and process than I do about others opinions….it took time to get here though😀 Thanks for sharing and encouraging us… as much video as you are willing to film and share, I am happy to watch and enjoy😉 Also, I am enjoying seeing how you field sketch/paint …. I’ve always been intimidated to paint outdoors because I thought a plein air painting had to be complete and polished…I’m thrilled to see this is not always the case…so outdoors I go! (that is…once all this Southern Ontario snow melts!)
Loving your abstract style. Reminding me of Ivon Hitchens. I live near by to where he painted in West Sussex England. I was lucky to see a retrospective exhibition at Chichester Pallent Gallery last year. Keep going Sandi, you are so brave to try new styles, keep pushing the boundaries.
Such a great topic on criticism Sandi! Thank you for sharing this. It reminds me of a saying - your work is not you. Sure, it’s an expression of you, but if someone doesn’t resonate with your work, it doesn’t mean anything about YOU. Plus, we’re not for everybody and neither is our work. I know how soul crushing it can feel when my hubby doesn’t fawn over something I love or am really proud of. I have to remind myself that it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love me. That piece just isn’t his cup of tea. I do art for me and that’s what matters.
Oh my YES! Great video. My hubby is really into abstract (and when I say abstract I mean like Jackson Pollock) and I do not get it at all. So when he showed me his painting Saturday I was like, "yea I would love that as a shower curtain" And I think I broke my hubby's heart. So I have to watch what I say, because I meant it as a compliment. And the other side- after I painted a painting that I thought was just the greatest, my hubby said, "oh that's nice" but he didn't say it with enthusiasm as I thought he should of! and I was so sad. We laugh about that now, even though this happened only last weekend, but for me-i had to come to the same realizations that you came to. What a great video! Thank you very much. Also, you know how I love love love you, well my hubby thinks your great to. He says HELLO. 🥰🙂
I loved your discussion of how you view your sketches (the ingredients thing made perfect sense to me). Just love you and your videos and how much inspiration I get from you! Thank you!!
I love you ... you are so honest and transparent. I love that you are grounded and know what kind of art you want to make. We should all create art like that ... not trying to please others at our own loss of self. It is so wonderful when you add Grady to your videos. You two have such a real love.
Sandy, thank you so very much on your little talk about 'criticism and opinions' from loved ones and good friends. Every single thing you said made perfect sense. And I need to hear this now. I know that a lot of artists, myself leading the pack, can be quite sensitive to others opinions of our work, so I was really glad to get your take on the topic! Thanks for telling us to just keep doing what you LOVE and there is always an audience for each and everyone of us!
I totally get this! And have experienced it...it has stifled me in the short run but eventually I could work through the less-than-desirable responses from family and close friends. I love how you talk about it as using a filter on their comments. The key is that you are having fun and are growing! Thank you for sharing the internal struggle as well as the fun painting part.
I love the fact that you enjoy your work with excitement, you rarely berate yourself which I think is so great. I am my own worst enemy I rarely allow anyone to see my work mainly because my husband raves on all the time to our friends how incredibly good my art is and I worry if I show them they will think the opposite of how he sees my pictures. For me because I had never painted or drawn in 68 years of my life but January 21 my husband bought me some water colours for Christmas so 14mths now and I just love to paint. I am not great by any means here I go again, but I love painting quirky things can’t draw for toffees would love to get things into perspective. I am trying hard to just enjoy like you rather than getting things perfect. Thank you I have binge watched your videos and love your funny personality.
Thank you for another great video. I love that it's longer. They can never be long enough. I found you at the beginning of quarantine and you were doing your under the table paintings. Since then you've taken us on a journey, and you're always trying new things. I'm always like "oh, where are we going now? Oooh, I'm liking this new phase!" I'm excited to see where you take us.
Sandi I really enjoyed the video. Your mountain is such a blessing of inspiration. I am so excited for you in the new direction that your art is taking you. I cannot wait to see all the finished masterpieces. Great art haul. Amazing products and colors. And most of all I love and totally agree with you about trying to seek approval from family about your work. I do the same. My family usually never understand my work, but that is ok. I have learned to accept it and keep on moving forward. If I love it, that is all that matters. My work is a little quirky anyways. That is just how I am wired. Loving the process. Your work is so inspiring. I love the abstract expressionism in your work. It let's the eye wonder and enjoy. Great job!!! ❤
Yay your videos are always like Christmas presents to me and I love every minute of them. You and Grady laughing was so cute in this one. The subject of showing loved ones and their reactions was such a helpful section. It helped me and I know would help so many other artists as it's a very common issue so thank you for addressing it. An hour of your content was such a treat and as always I never wanted it to end xx
Thank you for all the inspiration! I have just moved to the other side of the world and been missing community, your videos have been lovely to just cosy up to when its all been a bit too much and a inspiring me to keep creating and branching out to new medias and just let loose and keep trucking on 🙌 so thank you Sandi ☀️
I love your conversation about criticism from family. Here's a story I never shared with anyone until now. When I was in second grade, I was an exceptional artist. We had an art show. There was a young boy in my class who was also very talented. When my mother saw my work, she said, "why can't you draw like him?" I knew at a young age my style was different than his. But still, it hurt me to the core. I almost gave up drawing because of that comment. As I grew, I learned that I would draw and paint for the joy of it. If people like it, fine. If not, that's their choice. Just as there are different types of flowers, there are different types of artists. Through the years I was always drawing for classmates and I realized that not everyone can draw. They enjoyed my work. Some people are good at math, others in science, but I got stuck with art. It's who we are. Creating is our being. Thank you for sharing yourself through your art. ⚘ Many viewers on here appreciate it, as do I.
The non travesty thing/off putting thing is extra hilarious to me because where I come from, if someone said that it would mean that they would absolutely love having that painting out on display. :D
Dear Sandi, yes, yes, and yes… Your feelings are real, normal and WonkY! As we all humans are. No, change that. Artists are! Keep on keeping on! We love you and all your work!
Thank you for the one hour gift! 🥰 This couldn’t have come at a better time. As I attempt loosen up my style a bit more (it’s hard!), my husband doesn’t seem sure how to critique my work, but I’ve been trying to just take it as how he perceives the work itself, not that it’s a reflection of my abilities as an artist. I also love the comments about blending with lighter colours. My elementary students are always fighting over white pastels to layer over their work. I’ve learned to leave the peach, cream, light grey, light pink, even baby blue, etc. out for them to choose from, and they always seem satisfied with the results!
This video brought joy to my heart, thank you! I loved seeing you work up on the hill, your property, and the trees, and your interpretation of the parts in your view from the top up there. So lovely. I enjoyed the haul too, and happy to see you use the inks you did, and test everything out and the pencil values, etc. I found you by accident, searching for ink videos! I so appreciate you, Sandy. Paula
I can totally relate to what you say about following your own artistic calling! You just have to be true to yourself and your vision no matter what. That's the path of a true artist 😊🎨❤️
First timer, wow vlog... no insult here, feels like coming home... there are more heartists 'out there' beyond my reserved innerscape... if joy had a sound, your voice would be it.
"Not a travesty" made me laugh and laugh. Sounds exactly how my husband might describe one of my quilts. I love loose and wonky whereas he is a fan of uptight, precise, and traditional. If you know quilt patterns, he loves the Baltimore Album quilts. Meanwhile I made homey, scrappy, string quilts.... I had an awful day today so it was such a joy to get a new video, especially a long one. Loved the sound of the scratchy pencils and you loving each one.
I'm really struggling with a migraine today and I just wanted to say how happy I was to see I had a vlog of yours to watch. I find them so relaxing, such a nice escape from my daily life when I need it.
was watching another of your videos and this automatically played afterward. I am so glad because I so relate to the not so thrilled comments i get from my friends or partner when i try something more experimental or abstract or throw unexpected color to a painting. ;). They do love my landscapes. Its good to remember that I should not be swayed by a random comment or unexpected feedback and feel I am doing something wrong, but to remember that people like what they like and to take the comment that way. I do turn to trusted artist friends to share ideas or discuss areas where I am experiencing challenges and solicit their advice and feedback when I need. Thanks!
I have seen your videos for a while...last year, this year....love the way you play around with Colors on your sketchings, paintings and so on...your expressions on your face...they are the same in your paintings. Greetings from the South of the Netherlands.
Well I must say that this video sure helped me a lot to better understand what you are doing and the finished pieces are wonderful. I guess I was just seeing the sketches and quick paintings you were doing when you were doing this new thing which yes is more abstract but oh my the finished pieces you showed here are so yummy. I did not start following you until you were experimenting with being more loose so don’t even know much about your more realistic pieces I guess. The series of bird paintings would probably be the closest to be more realistic but I am loving them all now. My family is not accepting of more abstract either but I feel there is a lot of learning that goes on when I am playing abstractly. I don’t usually ever do an actual painting in large that way. Mostly just in my journals. Maybe I should do more and consider a painting. Louise Fletcher is an awesome abstract artist. Have you seen her work?. Sandi thank you for your honest approach to your art. It is so refreshing.
Thanks for inspiring me to love doing art again... That's a bigger thing than you realize... Life-saving life restoring and life proofing! Please stay healthy and strong those of us out here need your joy and light! Stay you!
Sandi, I think your art is great. Sorry to get biblical, but ‘if God is for us, who can be against us’. God gave you an amazing gift. There is a story of a boy, an old man and a donkey. They were walking along the road. A person passed and questioned why they weren’t riding the donkey. The boy got on the donkey. Another person passed and criticised the boy for letting the old man walk. The old man got on the donkey and the boy walked. Another person passed and criticised the old man for being too heavy for the donkey. The story continues in all combinations. The moral of the story is, you’ll never please everyone. Stay true to being you 🦋
Yes it's like asking your loved ones for business advice. In that case you should ask your bank or an accountant. We often ask our loved ones for things we shouldn't ask :) I find myself in the rabbit hole of that too tho. We want them to be proud of us. Thank you so much for your honesty and insights :) I love your vlogs :)
Sandi, I loved this episode, thank you so much! I can definitely relate to feeling the need to have the approval of family and friends, but making art that’s not fun is a very quick way to burn out and pack away the paintbrushes, no matter how good it looks. I’m also head over heals in love with this new landscape direction - the second painting was my favourite! Thanks again ☺️
Hi Sandi! Love your new work, love your old work, love your journey. Just want to share that my husband, a huge supporter and fan of my work, really dislikes where my journey is taking me right now. I felt a little hurt, but realize that I need to separate what I'm drawn to do, from what everyone else wants me to do.
On criticism: it’s like how some people love classical music, some love punk rock and some love country. All are valid, but we make our work for those who love it and nobody else. And it’s ok to all have different tastes and likes.
My family is the same. They are not into art, but the stuff they like is realistic. I really liked the painting on the canvas hanging up. You mentioned it seemed simple, I found it peaceful. and the ones with the pink. Your suns are awesome🌞 I'M new what a great video it really spoke to me!
"Not a travesty" ... Or... "Not off putting" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Thank you so much for sharing this conversation. I appreciate your openness and honesty. You're so relatable and keeping it real.
This was great!! Thank u so much!!! This really made me think about criticism. You make SO much sense. I really appreciate that u have me moving forward with my work. I love your work & I am drooling over your studio 😁. It's just wonderful & I can't stop looking at it, lol. Thanks again Sandi. Cheers
On the approval of loved ones, I totally get it that not everyone gets my style. But I also know that they just want me to create things that make me giddy. And somewhere in this wide world is a tiny crowd that will also be made giddy. I just hope that we stumble across one another someday. Also 3 cheers for Daler-Rowney and Derwent, 2 of my absolute fave workhorse brands. I have hardly found anything of theirs that doesn't shine in my workflow. Plus that Strathmore paper! Cannot wait to give that a try! Thanks so much!
I so look forward to seeing your videos! Thank you for sharing bits of your artistic life. I love it all! Especially that you spent so much time dressing warmly and wore sandals. Definitely something I do often!❤️
@@sandihester Bless! It’s awful to have foot problems. It makes all the things we love difficult. Again, thank you for sharing your light with us! It’s a beautiful addition to my week❤️
This was a treat. I think Dawn Emerson recommends using printmaking paper to encourage play and lots of experimentation which you do. I'll have to buy some when I get through my stash. You might enjoy Derwent Drawing pencils. There are only 24 in the range but they're beautiful, buttery soft/neutral colours with a slightly thicker core. They would be a nice complement.
I love your channel, the real deal, I’ve learn a lot from you. Love what you do, no one else have to understand your work. Look at fames painter who were told to same… their work is living on …. Please continue ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing this video Sandi. I am trying to find my style so whenever I veer off in another direction , my hubby might say, i like it but i love the other (whatever) better . Ok, thanks. Lol .. In this crazy world, the only person you gotta be is YOU! Xo hugs from NC……
Coincidentally I just got the antelope and the rowney blue! They look fantastic! I love how the antelope has so many hues in it. Like If you dropped a smidge in a spot of water on the paper it spreads into many super fun shades😍 Love your thoughts on how to love and appreciate your own art! Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your videos. Just by watching and listening I feel I can learn to enjoy my art more. I got stuck on perfection which robbed my enjoyment. Now I find a balance between growing & playing. ❤️
You are a Great! Artist and I have seen your work it’s definitely selling & your also a Great teacher and I’m learning a lot for instants I have three sketch books and haven’t painted or sketched in years I have most all one book finished. I think the LORD led me to you because I am drawing so many different things and using different colors in my trees leaves.thank you Sandi🥰
I checked your sketch book on your website. You have your way of creating. Sone may not like your style, it is ok. Have to say that your studio is envy inducing.
Btw, i am more a crafter, not an artist. I don’t care what ppl say about my hobbies or finished projects. However, I am my worst enemy. If I wasn’t so critical about the stuff I made, I could have my own shop on Etsy by now. I call my stuff shit most of the time thus they don’t see the light of the day. When I die, my nephew would just dump all of them to the trash bins and be done with it.
Hey Sandi I love this video because it made me giggle when you sat down with Clint Eastward (Brady)🤣 I love your landscapes your still life too portraits too I love that you love what you paint it shows confident shapes colour atmosphere and a playful heart spells ART 🎨 thanks for Sharing 🥰
New to your channel. 🥰 Love it! I love how you explained sketches! Sketches supplies the ingredients for a painting. Approval.. glad you talked about this!
Great video. I know what you mean about the critiques, especially when you're trying something new and friends are a bit 'hmmm' about it as it leaves you in a sort of no-man’s land about how it's going. I like the way you push through that with the 'I'm lovin it so I'm doing it' attitude. I shall try that myself.
Sandi...you help me so much loosen up & teach me how to use my tools beyond 'doing it wrong'...by using them in ways ii wouldn't have considered, with other mediums ii was uncertain as to compatibility, and reminders as to packing what to take. ii got a lot of wallyworld clear cosmetic bags as ii learned ii don't use what ii don't see and there are a number of things dying on the vine from no use...overwhelm vies with s.o.s. [shiny object syndrome] as this apparently is art supplies investment season...duh...ii am a zentangle patterns maven...with aspirations of watercolor, acrylic and other mixed media combinations. Learning abt values, taking risks with unfamiliar mediums keeps me from ever being bored, but sometimes ii just put everything away and wait til inspiration compels me to create. ii didn't pick up a pen, pencil, doodle, zip for five months...did other things but it felt like being a beginner. When you go thru yr sketchbooks and share how you transcribe them to canvas, it's so fun and wow...Just get in there and make some marks. This week one of those aha! moments resurfaced... my mom was a maverick artist, not appreciated by her parents, and yr comments abt not letting important people's lack of enthusiasm says more abt their lack of artistic awareness than the art they don't understand. the insight for me was seeing her struggles early on, and not wanting to compete with her...what child does that? But that little inner kid is pretty demanding now for good tools and bigger messes...beyond my budget but ... I'd rather have artgraf tailor squares and Derwent drawing pencils than clothes shopping or eat out. This is a roundabout way of saying thank you for all yr examples of living color.
That was well timed for me as I waiting for some coloursoft Derwent pencils to be delivered and I also chose the cream! I may have to get your other ‘whites’! They do make a pastel in a pencil which I haven’t tried but might be of interest to you. Great video Sandi.
Sending you lots of love. Thank you for another video! I like how they are always inspiring, how there is always positive, and something to learn from. I’m glad you are sticking with where your heart is, that’s a lesson in itself. :0)

He has good taste, he fell in love with you!
Gosh, I can absolutely related to you. I am glad you don’t let your husband stopped you. I am going to embrace it 100%. Thanks for sharing your story. Knowing that I am not alone.
@@franswey2 haha! right?😄
@@SODEKA987 Yes, definitely don't let anyone crush you with their opinion.
Well thanks for watching Fiona! Really appreciate it!
It is easy to just get in there making and forget to turn the camera on 😂
@@sandihester sure is! XD
I loved this longer video! Can’t get enough of you and your art! 💜💜🥰
Awe - thank you!
I came back and watched this a second time just for the sounds of you swatching your pencil crayons, because that sound to me is one of the best sounds in the world.
So glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you and I’m so glad you’re liking the brushes!
...its not off putting...How fun! great topic! I find if someone close to me says they don't like what I've created, it really takes the wind out of my sails. Thanks for your take on this.
You’re welcome Kathy!
Oh boy..... I'm gonna get lots of hate mail on this one! I love the artist! Job well done on communicating such an important topic.
You’re not getting any hate mail baby!!!! You support me like no one else and I’ll beat up anyone who says anything bad about you! Thank you for letting me share this with people - it was very humbling and kind of you!!!! Love you with all my heart!
Nah! We understand the separation of person and artwork. It was terribly funny though!
Yes, that’s always a fun comment “interesting “ 😂
I love the direction your art is taking.
Thank you!
Sandi, your videos are my Friday treat. ❤️
I’m so glad to hear that Karen!
Your lastest sketches (the recipe) and the resulting "cake" remind me of Arthur Dove. Your work is different in many ways but still brought his work to mind. Keep up the growth and experimentation. Wishing you many happy painting days!
Thank you Mary Ann!
I love the way the two of you laugh so much! I've been married 44 years and I know laughter has been really important in our relationship too.
Soooo important!
Well that was an amazing video ……. Oooooo so inspiring, thank you Sandi ☀️
Ohhhhh good!!! Thank you!
I’ll have to check his work out!
So glad you liked the topic!!!
Awe - so glad you both like the vids! Thank you!
I loved your discussion of how you view your sketches (the ingredients thing made perfect sense to me). Just love you and your videos and how much inspiration I get from you! Thank you!!
Awe - you’re so welcome. Thanks for watching!
I love you ... you are so honest and transparent. I love that you are grounded and know what kind of art you want to make. We should all create art like that ... not trying to please others at our own loss of self. It is so wonderful when you add Grady to your videos. You two have such a real love.
Thank you Chris! We do have a special friendship and relationship!
Thank you Lynn!
50 degrees sounds heavenly!! 😍💗 from Texas.
Love this one sandi, two thumbs up 👍🏼 thank you 🙏🏼
Awe - thanks so much!!! So glad you enjoyed it!
I’m glad you’re enjoying the ride!
Thank you Madelyn!
You are such fun, keep doing what you love and feel.
Thank you Kim!
A long video, what a bonus. The pencil lightening tips are really helpful. Thumbs up Sandi.👍💜
So glad you enjoyed it!
Many viewers on here appreciate it, as do I.
As always, I am lovin' being on your journey!! Thanks for keepin it real!
Paula
I’m sooo glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Yay.. another great Friday because Sandi was here.. ; )
🤗🤗🥰
I can totally relate to what you say about following your own artistic calling! You just have to be true to yourself and your vision no matter what. That's the path of a true artist 😊🎨❤️
First timer, wow vlog... no insult here, feels like coming home... there are more heartists 'out there' beyond my reserved innerscape... if joy had a sound, your voice would be it.
Thank you Judy and WELCOME!
So sorry you had a bad day and I’m glad this could be a little lift!
I'm really struggling with a migraine today and I just wanted to say how happy I was to see I had a vlog of yours to watch. I find them so relaxing, such a nice escape from my daily life when I need it.
I’m so sorry about the migraine- ugh! Glad the video was here for you!
I love the freedom and boldness and confidence in your art!❤
Thank you!
YOU are a TRUE artist! let the haters hate....I love that you do you!!! Plus, I LOVE your hair. Keep making your art!!! xoxo
Good job going out on a imperfect day and roughing it. Donkey cute and rosy cheeks made me smile
YES!!! The ultimate big canvas should be over the fireplace. Its great.
Loved seeing you Swatch those acrylic inks, what an interesting way to work with them. 💕
Thank you!
was watching another of your videos and this automatically played afterward.
Thank you Jan! Really appreciate you watching!
Yes, I love her podcast!
I love love love love your work. You have given me new inspiration .
Thanks for inspiring me to love doing art again... That's a bigger thing than you realize... Life-saving life restoring and life proofing! Please stay healthy and strong those of us out here need your joy and light! Stay you!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sandi, I think your art is great. Sorry to get biblical, but ‘if God is for us, who can be against us’. God gave you an amazing gift. There is a story of a boy, an old man and a donkey. They were walking along the road. A person passed and questioned why they weren’t riding the donkey. The boy got on the donkey. Another person passed and criticised the boy for letting the old man walk. The old man got on the donkey and the boy walked. Another person passed and criticised the old man for being too heavy for the donkey. The story continues in all combinations. The moral of the story is, you’ll never please everyone. Stay true to being you 🦋
I have watched several dozen of your videos. What an inspiration! So glad I'm following you!
So glad you’re enjoying them!!! 🙌
Yay yay it’s Sandi day!! And we have an hour?!?!?!? Happy dance! 😊❤️
Yep - a whole hour!!! 🤗
Thank you Samantha!
Hi Sandi! Love your new work, love your old work, love your journey. Just want to share that my husband, a huge supporter and fan of my work, really dislikes where my journey is taking me right now. I felt a little hurt, but realize that I need to separate what I'm drawn to do, from what everyone else wants me to do.
Thank you Sandi ,great video and done with so much love and respect ,I'm enjoying you're journey so much
Thank you Sam!
I just found you this morning and I laughed so hard that it wouldn't be a travesty! Thanks for the giggles!
You’re very welcome!!! Thanks for watching!
You're an amazing artist , your spirit and your beautiful art inspire me huge a lot , thank you i'm so grateful !
A great honker doodle vid full of goodness. Generous. Blessings! How cute are you and Grady?!!
🥰
On criticism: it’s like how some people love classical music, some love punk rock and some love country. All are valid, but we make our work for those who love it and nobody else. And it’s ok to all have different tastes and likes.
True cant expect everyone to have same tastes.
My family is the same. They are not into art, but the stuff they like is realistic. I really liked the painting on the canvas hanging up. You mentioned it seemed simple, I found it peaceful. and the ones with the pink. Your suns are awesome🌞 I'M new what a great video it really spoke to me!
Welcome Terry!!!!
"Not a travesty"
... Or...
"Not off putting"
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Thank you so much for sharing this conversation.
I appreciate your openness and honesty.
You're so relatable and keeping it real.
Thank you Shelby! 🥰
Cheers
So glad it was helpful Terry! And thank you for your kind comments!
Love love love your videos and your work!!! Always brightens my day!!
I’m so glad Heather!
you are an absolute joy to watch. Keep enjoying and sharing your process. love. xo
Thank you Carol!
I didn’t go into it but I have to wear sandals because I have foot problems. I did wear warm socks but that’s the best I can do.
I have some of those pencils and I do like them!
I love your work so much and how excited u get about your art 💞
Thank you!
I love your channel, the real deal, I’ve learn a lot from you. Love what you do, no one else have to understand your work. Look at fames painter who were told to same… their work is living on …. Please continue ❤️❤️❤️
I’m continuing for sure Denise 🤗
Thank you for sharing this video Sandi. I am trying to find my style so whenever I veer off in another direction , my hubby might say, i like it but i love the other (whatever) better . Ok, thanks. Lol .. In this crazy world, the only person you gotta be is YOU! Xo hugs from NC……
You’re welcome Christine!
Coincidentally I just got the antelope and the rowney blue! They look fantastic! I love how the antelope has so many hues in it. Like If you dropped a smidge in a spot of water on the paper it spreads into many super fun shades😍
Love your thoughts on how to love and appreciate your own art! Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your videos. Just by watching and listening I feel I can learn to enjoy my art more. I got stuck on perfection which robbed my enjoyment. Now I find a balance between growing & playing. ❤️
So glad to hear you’ve found some freedom 🤗
Enjoying yr new work, interesting process…very nice
Thank you!
I love your videos so much. I think you are brave to show your process ! I ‘m curious to see where you are going.
Thank you Virginia!
I often find myself seeking for validation. I love your approach to this subject, it was exactly what I needed to hear today. Thank you.
So glad it was what you needed to hear!
When I die, my nephew would just dump all of them to the trash bins and be done with it.
this was actually very timely and relevant, thanks
Hey Sandi I love this video because it made me giggle when you sat down with Clint Eastward (Brady)🤣 I love your landscapes your still life too portraits too I love that you love what you paint it shows confident shapes colour atmosphere and a playful heart spells ART 🎨 thanks for Sharing 🥰
Thank you Deborah!
I love your videos!! You are truly awesome!!! ❤️
Awe - thank you!
New to your channel. 🥰 Love it!
I love how you explained sketches!
Sketches supplies the ingredients for a painting.
Approval.. glad you talked about this!
Welcome Amanda! So glad you’re enjoying the channel!
Thank you Shirley!
Grady is PRECIOUS
Thank you Jennie!
Sending you lots of love. Thank you for another video! I like how they are always inspiring, how there is always positive, and something to learn from. I’m glad you are sticking with where your heart is, that’s a lesson in itself. :0)
Love your energy and your art and your thoughts on asking for approval and criticism really resonated with me! :) I'm so happy I found your channel!!!
I’m happy you’re here too!
