My personal theory is that he somehow has the power to summon coffee from the ether, the drawback is that doing so requires most of the caffeine that you get from a cup of coffee, so in order to be able to keep using his power he has to summon coffee nearly constantly while he still has enough caffeine to summon another
This idea is implemented much more clearly in GAA, where van Zieks keeps pouring himself wine but rarely even sips it, instead destroying the chalices/bottles out of frustration.
It's interesting how Mia's lesson to Wright: "A lawyer is someone who smiles, no matter how bad it gets" is just a more positive version of Godot's lesson to her: "the only time a lawyer can cry, is when it's all over" really shows the difference between the two characters.
This fourth case is such an exercise in dramatic irony. We *know* that Edgeworth is undefeated until he meets Phoenix Wright. We *know* that Dahlia gets away. We know Mia's been traumatized by this case, so this is just an anticipation game to see how on earth that happens

@@farlado5459 That's not the dramatic irony though. That's foreshadowing. RT repeatedly saying "I'm walkin here" with not even the faintest whiff of an accent to get him into his brooklyn accent was the highlight of this entire experience
funfact: originally, Godot was supposed to smoke and drink whiskey during trials, but that concept was scrapped and changed to coffee to be "less of a negative influence on children". ...just take a moment to imagine drunk chainsmoker Godot. you're welcome.
So with Edgeworth being undefeated by AA1, that means that he took the flashback case as a win, or going by his genuinely shocked reaction, at least von Karma did, meaning they absolutely celebrated 'his first win' with karaoke leading to the mental image of von Karma singing his heart out while Edgeworth sits on the sidelines adding the whole mess to the pile of repressed trauma like 'this is fine'
I know that I'm two months late, but since the defendant died on the stand, the trial would've technically been a "draw" since no verdict could be made. Obviously Mia considered it a defeat because her client commited suicide, but it would go down as "trial cancelled" on both her and Edgeworth's records.
@@davidepastore5600 1) Fair enough, if the trial is cancelled he wasn't really "defeated" so it all checks out 2) Manfred von Karma would def still consider "trial cancelled by defendant committing suicide" a W for his pupil. I mean, the sentence was carried out right there, by the defendant, implicitly admitting his own guilt in the process. Totally counts, another win in the annals of the great von Karma name, well done Miles, you clearly understand what prosecuting is all about, now stop crying
The game showcases how traumatizing the case was for Mia, but goddamn can we talk about Edgeworth for a sec? He was most likely built to be confident and cocky as a prosecutor thanks to Von Karma, and on his first day on the job…he witnesses a literal suicide in front of him and his own opponent desperately trying to keep them alive. That’s a mental image I don’t think any person would be able to forget so easily
Case intros, too. They just show the murderer most of the time. Also some images. For example in this case it shows Tigre sitting at the table time and time again, which spoils that the murderer and the fake Phoenix Wright are the same person.
by rt's previous logic, the impersonator was inhabiting the "idea" of phoenix wright at that time, and therefore actually *was* phoenix wright. case closed your honour, and buy chat a happy meal
*Hold it!* This case is entirely irrelevant! What matters was if Luke Atmey was the true villain in Turnabout McDonald’s! Even if this case has similar traits, it is *irrelevant!*
one of these days there's gonna be a case where it's revealed a murder never actually happened, because the murderer and victim were both in disguise and acting out different ruses
In retrospect, it’s ironic that the time Dan was most insistent on the mafia, in Justice For All, was the one game where the Mafia (or rather, organized crime) didn’t have any role.
Also, unrelated question: was the arguably Transphobic stuff surrounding Jean Armstrong removed for the HD version, or did Dan remove it for the highlights?
Grossberg must be cursed or something. Every lawyer that used to work in his office at one point, has met with a terrible fate: Mia, Diego and Robert Hammond (the victim in the von Karma case)
I know it seems really stupid considering Tigre's orange skin, but in the opening scene of this case in this AA Trilogy, we saw fake 'Phoenix Wright' at the stand. Not Tigre, but 'Phoenix'. Therefore, I suggest that Tigre was wearing makeup to make his skin match Phoenix. This is also how he manage to disguise himself as Glen Elg, the victim. Therefore, I postulate that Tigre possesses a closet filled with makeup and costumes to cosplay as whatever unlucky victim he wishes to mess with on that particular day.
But that cant be right though. Maggie states that the fake Phoneix said that "he came back from Hawii and got a tan" so he didnt wear make up, he just told everone he tanned, got plastic surgery and got super buff.
@@Rebecca2988 Yeah, that's fair. I'm simply basing this observation off the opening cutscene of the case, where the fake Phoenix Wright isn't shown with a tan.
i thought it might be that godot can't distinguish between red and white, like how he didn't see the ketchup on the apron. to him, tigre's skin might have looked close enough to pheonix's, and i guess the judge was just incompetent like he usually is
As a Canadian, I saw the new judge and was “oh cool, a Canadian!” Then he said “you look as scrumptious as a double-double and a dozen donut holes” and I needed to pause the video bc it was SO BAD 😭😭😭💀
@@ketaminepoptarts To be fair, Capcom probably couldn't get the rights to reference Timbits in the localization...Could still have written 'Tombits" or somethin' though.
Plot twist it was never Grossberg at the dock. It was actually Tigre WHO Used to be Von Karma but after an accident at the chemical factory changed his appearance
Recipe for Turnabout is basically the equivalent of the Meet the Spy video but the RED Spy does a very poor job at disguising himself but somehow, everyone seems to fall for it. But worse of all, he could be in this very comment section! He could be _you!_ He could be _me!_ He could even be…
*shotgun noises* What, it was obvious! He’s the Red Spy! (Meanwhile said spy, only half disguised as scout, is sitting there shocked since he has NO idea how the hell he’s still alive)
It's weird seeing the younger versions of characters like Edgeworth and Gumshoe. Miles looked like he still had some life in his eyes, like he really looks like a bright eyes rookie compared to somewhat brutal prosecutor he became. Gumshoe hasn't changed much, save for looking a bit older now.
I like that the only real thing that changed about Gumshoe is the color of his trenchcoat (from green to beige), implying that he hasn’t washed it in six years.
Idk if anyone cares but they were going to make additional changes to gumshoe’s sprites/animations for the flashback trials, but they had limited space in the original game and decided just to change the color of his coat and keep the same animations
1:11:47 this is like the anti-thesis of RT's entire playthrough of this game. Getting absolutely nowhere presenting his real badge, but winning a case by presenting a fake one.
The whole imposter bit was hilarious but going off of RT's logic on how the guy didn't look anything like the people he impersonated, his win for the whole Atmey case is invalidated since Atmey's nose wouldn't fit in the mask... this is also supported by several evidence in these games pointing out the contradiction on costumes... Mr. Drift King, I believe you now owe twitch chat a happy meal...
Considering Japan's fashion trends in the mid-2000's, Tigre likely just had a spray tan. Easy enough to remove with some preparation and reapply in the 1 month interval betweem the two trials.
Godot is terrifying though. It's how calm he is. For the most part, he's conspicuously more cool and collected than anyone previously, while still having that dramatic flair that Edgeworth doesn't have but the more colourful von Karmas did.
I really love the fact that for Trials and tribulations, they bascially swapped the two mia cases: in the first case, Mia knows whats up and we have no clue what's going on, and in the second case, we know what's going on and Mia doesn't have a clue. It's great because it means that although there's a small disconnect, we come into both cases knowing that dahlia is up to no good.
I wouldn't have minded seeing more of her in Case 3 of this game. She was a bit creepy, but she looked like she was in need of a genuine friend. Or for Pheonix to pull on Tigre what he pulled on Matt Engarde by tipping Viola's granddad off to the fact that idiot has his beloved Violetta involved in a murder plot that'll likely see her sent to jail so that Tigre will want to be locked up in hopes that the Cadaverini's can't reach him in jail. I do like still like Pheonix tricking Tigre into outing himself though, so I'm not sure which would have worked better to conclude that trial.
I mean... she's the grand daughter of a literal mob boss... She has the same "I'm not guilty" vibes as Von Karma because she has the same status of guilt. She's likely done some shit (or pushed others into doing it for her) and just didn't happen to be guilty of the charges in the case.
i swear dahlia has done the exact same crime like 4 times in a row, same bottle, same method of pinning the crime on someone and poisoning them, she just keeps doing it
It was today ago when I realized that Godot got his name from the combined last syllables of his real first and last name. RT got that INSTANTLY too, damn.
After watching all the videos so far on this play-through, I'll never be able to give these characters a different voice from the one Dan's given them. Especially Von Karma...
You ever look down at your hands and realise that they're red, you look at your hair and it's mildly spiky and you're speaking in a Brooklyn accent? Dear god... Don Tigre is everyone
Fun fact: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney consists of some 210,000 words in the English version, spread over around 80,000 lines of text. For comparison's sake that's longer than Dune at 185,723 words, though shorter than War and Peace at 561,304 words. Almost three times as long as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (77,000 words).
a rather important point got lost in editing, i think. godot isn't all smug about the ketchup "bloodstain" because he knows it's fake. he legitimately doesn't know it's there, for some reason...
The most obvious villian, yet he’s still a really fun character, you have to admit. Also, with RT doing it, I like to imagine before he says anything he has to practice his horrible brooklyn accent by shouting "WALKIN HERE" before speaking in like the middle of his testimony.
As someone who's already seen the ending of the trilogy, this case makes a lot more sense with end game knowledge, It's super smart how they started sparkling end game hints this early on in the game
4:17 in the anime Godot ignores the stain by accident due to his visor being red, he was unable to see the stain and gets really flustered when everyone makes fun of him 😂😂
Say what you will about the second case with Mia, but I really liked it! While the case itself is pretty unremarkable, and the age dynamics are frankly unexcusable, the narrative around the case is fascinating. It gives more insight into Diego, shows both Mia and Edgeworth's first case, and has a really strong ending. It continues to sets up Daliah as a horrifying villian, and retroactively makes the first case of the game that bit more terrifying, when you realise that could have happned to Phoenix. Even little details like how Edgeworth mirrors several of Von Karma's animations, harkening back to how he was his mentor. Great stuff!
In defense of the age difference, Fawles was clearly disabled in the same sense of the big guy from ‘Of Mice and Men’. Don’t remember his name, but a damn sad story.
Yeah, Dahlia is a little sociopath whose probably from a young age has been able to wrap people around her finger with ease and get them to be devoted to her to the point that they'd kill/die for her.
@@lojika1majik Huh, I suppose you're right. I hadn't thought about it like that. While obviously that still doesn't make the relationship okay, it does add more context.
@@definitelyhooman7939 While it's still creepy, I do feel like it does shift the blame, at least a part, on Dahlia for seducing him (and maybe also Valerie for helping her). Which, considering what happened in 3-1, it kinda tracks.
i love that since Daniel has so much trouble maintaining the boston/brooklyn accent, it sounds like Tigre has tourettes, causing him to say "i'm walkin' here" at random intervals
It honestly astounds me how unpopular my opinion is on Terry Fawles. It is initially framed to look like he's a child groomer, yes. I dont blame anyone for that first impression. But the game states some very clear facts that I believe should lead us to believe otherwise. Mia specifically states at one point (not in this video) that Fawles has the grammatical skills of a 2nd grader. He uses simple words and broken sentences. He talks like a child. He has puppy-dog eyes and a habit of teething when nervous. He has difficulty regulating emotions. I couldn't name anything specific, but I do believe Terry Fawles was mentally disabled. That his brain was either incapable of growth beyond a certain point or developed slower than it should and that he was not getting the mental health services he needed. Instead, he was expected to join the work force as a functioning adult. He didnt have a lot of intelligence or skill, so the best he could do was...tutor grade school children. And ended up with Dahlia as a student. When he talks about his relationship with Dahlia, I honestly see a lot of abusive red flags. Like she was just piling love, affection, gifts, etc. onto this disabled man who had no idea what was going on. SHE was preying on HIM. There were many advantages to having a scary looking yet naive adult in the palm of your hands as a child. Hell, she probably got him to buy the very poison that she made him drink. People see Terry's relationship with Dahlia as one of "Japan being weird again." But I see it as an advocate for mental health rights. Because if Terry had his own caretaker instead of being forced to pretend he wasnt severely mentally disabled, his life wouldn't have been so tragic.
I don't deny that Dahlia is manipulative and more evil than Terry. The issue is no-one in-game really calling the relationship out as creepy beyond that. In fact, their relationship is treated completely normally by onlookers before they get into the murder. It can be a problem with both adults pursuing children AND disrespect for the mentally ill.
@@pippastrelle Yeah that's my thoughts too, both of them are at fault in different ways and the relationship as a whole is toxic af but no one helps or protects either of them, that's what makes it tragic. Two people who should have been told "hold on, this isn't right" but for whatever reason no one did.
(MINOR SPOILER AHEAD) The edited version of the stream cuts godot being shocked at the "bloodstain" on the apron, since he never saw the bloodstain. This will be a VERY important detail later that the edited version leaves out.
just note, as italian. "Cadaverini" means "little corpses". I guess they translated "Cadavere" which is "Corpse" and just added "ini" since it's a common stereotype
i think the younger edgeworth characterization was done slightly better in Investigations, where people (Calisto Yew and Badd, specifically) make fun of his arrogant attitude/speech patterns... something about the sprite is also mildly off-putting here imo
@@nutelasaur9453It's like they used a different art style for younger edgeworth. The entire shape of his head is different, and it's larger. Honestly, if you swapped the hair, he would look like an entirely different character.
1:17:24, I’m not trying to be a smart ass, but just so you know lawyers in cross can’t commit perjury since they aren’t under oath. During cross examination, you are technically allowed to mislead or test a witness, the larger issue would be that you typically should get permission from the judge.
Whether or not a leading question is objectionable depends on the relationship between the witness and the questioning party. That is why generally speaking leading questions are considered proper during cross-examination, as a tool to make the witness make statements on certain topics, whereas it is usually considered objectionable when used during straight examination (a scenario the game doesnt really do), where such questions usually are used to lead a witness away from certain statements. Of course the judge in these games is grossly incompetent and wouldn't know the difference.
23:33 to be fair, the judge wouldn't have been able to see the badge clearly from how far away he was... That's like the 1 thing he wouldn't have noticed
I’m not a fan of cases where it all hinges on everyone being unreasonably stupid or blind to something obvious. You can’t lampshade something without some kind of lamplike structure to hang it on. I still love this game though haha
Tbh most AA cases seem to boil down to either -> "But it was on the opposite side/behind a rock, so you couldn't have seen it... Unless you're the MURDERER!!!!", -> "But this information wasn't released to the public so you couldn't know... Unless you're the MURDERER!!!!", -> "But you just plainly admitted to being the MURDERER!!!! ... But there's no evidence... YET!!!!", -> "But the victim wrote an anagram of your name in blood.... So you're the MURDERER!!!!"
It’s frustrating to me that all the ickyness with terry could have been avoided by simply making him 20. Yes, he would’ve been a buff af 15 year old but that’s not that inconceivable Edit: There is also that he would’ve been a minor when he was sentenced the death penalty but considering how wild the legal system is in the AA universe, it too is not that inconceivable. if you do find it too inconceivable then you can say you’d rather have dahlia age up a bit as pointed out in the comment reply’s
I don't understand why so many people hate that character, all while serial killers are beloved characters. People have become too accustomed to murder in media, it is the worst crime you can commit
I agree, but also in a weird way I think it was kind of a good thing that they made it sort of creepy? It kind of helps illustrate the message woven throughout the game of how defense attorneys are supposed to trust their clients - in this case Mia might take moral issue with Terry because of this creepy relationship with Dahlia, but she’s there to defend him against a murder charge so that’s what she has to focus on in this instance. I mean idk it still grosses me out obviously but maybe there’s something there. Or maybe my brain is just trying to cope lol
The entire impersonation of Phoenix Wright was already ridiculous, but then we see the lawyer badge was fricking cardboard? Jesus Christ this judge is bonkers...
1:27:47 that is very illegal in case you're wondering... but then again, if I had a dime for every time Phoenix also violated the rules of discovery, I'd be able to buy the rights to the Ace Attorney franchise
Step 1: say "if I had a dime for every time someone broke court laws in Ace Attorney" Step 2: find an investor and convince them to capitalize Step 3: buy the Ace Attorney franchise with your $7,981,770.50 Step 4: delete the Big Top Turnabout and all references Step 5: profit off of the now tripled sales of the franchise
If I had a nickel for every time Gumshoe saved Phoenix and Maya from the mafia, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.
Is it just me or does Godot show more shocked faces than other prosecutors do? It seems like he's taken off guard quite often. He actually seems like an underdog compared to Phoenix.
@@creamcheese001 well to be fair, the third case kind of does set up that he is a lawyer who just took up a new identity, so it being his "first case" isnt really accurate.

You know, they could have really made the "mistaking Tigre for Phoenix" make perfect sense... Have Tigre say he was channelling a spirit. Phoniex is the only one we know to regularly be in contact with spirit channeling and stuff, so to the folks in court who may not know how it exactly works, Wright is just doing his old thing.
No, Tigre impersonating Glen Elg made sense. Remember: Nobody knew Glen Elg, and Tigre only wanted people to think Glen elg was alive at a different time to cover his tracks. Most wittnesses, at best, remember the cloths of people they don't know when asked about them, there are even multiple studies showing this, and you can ask multiple laywers and police officiers that will tell you stories very similiar to this one. RTs issue is he thinks everyone knows everyone, which is rarely the case in such a scenario/real life.
Phoenix: Mr. Tigre! This plastic bottle contains potassium cyanide! Tigre: No it doesn't! The bottle is brown and made of glass! Phoenix: Aha! you just admitted to knowing what the bottle looks like! Tigre: And you just misled me by lying to the court. I can't be tried with this evidence and the bar will have a field day with you! Phoenix: Oh.
@@aldar8240 also you don’t generally need to prove who actually did the crime for your client to be innocent. More like “Guilty until proving someone else did it”
As someone who doesn't know legal stuff I need to ask - he can't be tried using the ear medicine or poison bottle? Because the lie was about an evidence that was pretty much meaningless and Tigre brough up the correct bottle, at the same time creating a testimony that proves he knew about it. At that point logical would be that while court can't prove he was the killer, they can at least prove he was an accomplice in the murder (and he could try to frame Viola or Armstrong as the actual killers). Not that it would help him considering Cadaverinis would most likely take him out from the picture if he would be free, especially if he'd decide to implicate Viola. I feel like that makes this case extremely depressing, since it would mean Armstrong gets guilty of murder and in AA universe guilty of murder basically means an execution. That would explain why he's missing from the epilogue part, where every non murderer gives some lines. And he was basically forced to help in murder because his life was on the line.
I mean, to be fair (spoilers in "read more"!) The phantom explicitly uses masks, and you get to see this for yourself in person.
Because if Terry had his own caretaker instead of being forced to pretend he wasnt severely mentally disabled, his life wouldn't have been so tragic.
precisely, even if it's morally murky Terry is still not the bad guy in therealtionship. the woman who mnaipualteed him into killing himself IS.
If you really are the squshiest lawyer, I guess you must be right.

The cutaway gag of Dan doing Judge Goofy’s voice from the distance to show he’s hiding under his desk is not appreciated enough
Love every time RT goes "what" in the same voice for every character.
Wasn't it said that he had never lost a case but never won one either because the mask☆demasque case was his first?
@@eliaspanayi3465 haha, true. I forget cause he usually seems quite collected.
@@creamcheese001 well to be fair, the third case kind of does set up that he is a lawyer who just took up a new identity, so it being his "first case" isnt really accurate.
yeah it makes him more likeable honestly. it kinda feels like he's more interested in the truth than in just winning the case
I think it's because Godot isn't insane or Edgeworth.
I get that Kudo is supposed to have that cartoony old man with large red nose look… but it honestly looks like a cyst or some kind of growth and it’s just making me feel uneasy looking at it… I’ve only seen him in the original ds game… it’s even worse in HD
It looks phallic
@@Leech-Kisser07 If your penis look like that, you should go see a doctor
SAME him flicking it with his hand made it look like it was filled with liquid, that grossed me out so much
"Mr. Kudo. You seem especially interested in straps." I'm barely into the video. Already spat my food out laughing. I'm so excited
Don't let him fool you, RT definitely has a gambling addiction. Denial is the first stage Dan. We're here to help you
but first give us our happy meal
I love how RT is so excited about the Mafia finally being involved, despite them also being involved in case 3 of the first game; even nearly killing Phoenix and Maya
the quantity of waiting for godot jokes they manage to make is kind of astounding. and specific. someone there must really like that play like i know it’s well known but not That well known… i didn’t know about it till i read it after the always sunny episode that parodied it. which is also how i knew how to pronounce the name lol the sunny ep is titled “waiting for big mo”
I love the amount of memes that have come from this series.

This series is amazing
Don Tigre is the definition of rolling a natural 20 on stealth every single time
kinda surprised that the case tier list didn't make it into this video, although I imagine everyone probably knows how that went
Big top, all the way down- deeper than hadestown
To be fair this is Japanifornia
But Tigre has no knowledge of Phoenix's spirit stuff. Come to think of it neither does most of the court.
Apparently the use of make-up to make Tigre's skin tone match Wright's is completely implausible.
Phoenix Wright, ace necromancer
Phoenix: Mr. Tigre! This plastic bottle contains potassium cyanide!
Tigre: No it doesn't! The bottle is brown and made of glass!
Phoenix: Aha! you just admitted to knowing what the bottle looks like!
Tigre: And you just misled me by lying to the court. I can't be tried with this evidence and the bar will have a field day with you!
Phoenix: Oh.
Tigre speedran Apollo Justice it seems.
the thing is admitting perjury is a crime that exists would cause 90% of the game's content to disappear in a puff of logic
Seing him mad about the tiger guy over disguises is so funny just emagine what he will think about....
*The phantom*
If only he'd play that far, but unfortunately he's said he isn't playing past the trilogy...
I mean, to be fair (spoilers in "read more"!)
The phantom explicitly uses masks, and you get to see this for yourself in person. He's repeatedly stated to be a master of disguise, and shows off in-person his ability to mimic others' voices- it's not so much of a leap to believe he could convincingly disguise as anyone, since he actually DOES. And it's terrifying because he's insanely competent at it, unlike Tigre who just...barely tries.

The only reason they noticed he was a phony it's because he wasn't wearing anything blue
everyone in the ace attorney series except for nick is at least moderately faceblind. that's why anytime someone has a signature look all you have to do is replicate it for everyone to wholeheartedly accept you're them despite all evidence to the contrary.

@@OMGKAWAII_ANGELz we literally cannot mention his name without fear
VON EDGEWORTH!! NO!!!
So uh
Fun fact:
I once tried to introduce my friend to AA
And once I got him interested, he decided to buy a copy from GameStop, cuz he had a DS. When he got home, he put in the chip, and found out that it was pre-owned, and the last person had just beaten the first case. Turns out that he got the second game by accident, and his first solo encounter with the franchise was the Big Top one. So now, he has absolutely ZERO INTENT on trying the series again.
Thanks, Big Top!
NOOOOO
Big Top was case 3 in JFA case 2 was Reunion
maybe you can convince him to play it again
